I have a pretty good idea for an invention and I need some help or advice about developing an android os to run one of the parts to this invention. The OS will need a few security features that do not normally come on Android. If someone would like to help me out and chat about my I idea I would be very greatful. It may even lead to a business partnership down the road. I'm pretty sure that my idea would take off because it would solve a problem that most people have had to deal with. Thanks for your help.

Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum, but I plan on developing ROMs with a few people, so I will probably frequent them soon.
In my Operating Systems class, I was asked to come up with ideas for a project. Well, since I'm just starting to build Android ROMs anyways, I was going to see if I could use this idea for class. I guess my question is, do you guys think this would be a good project to last a few weeks of the semester (at least)? If not, can you suggest ways that will make it longer or shorter? We would be building them for a Droid Incredible.
I have a general idea, and it seams that just getting an AOSP ROM up and running would be no problem at all, from what I read anyways. It seems like the tailoring or the importing of ROMs is what really takes time and effort.
Thanks in advance for the input.
It depends on the class skills. But it's really great idea to study Linux and low level Android features. uh.. I didn't have such interesting project during my university years ((
The only big issue is high initial level of knowledge. Also many peoples may quickly give up fighting with some unclear compile or deploy issues. It's not trivial to debug on such devices. They may quickly lost their interest. But overall this is great idea. Where are you teaching?
I'm not actually the professor, I'm a student at Saginaw Valley State University (Michigan). I'm the "Class Leader" so I told the professor that I would give him the list of ideas I had for projects.
If it's for a grade, it might be a good idea then. They may lose interest, but if their grades are on the line, I would hope they struggle through it. Plus, we are all in groups, and they can pick another project if they don't like this one.
Thanks for the info, Purler.
Does anyone know how different it would be to make a ROM for something that requires a mouse input, like the Raspberry Pi?
Hey, I'm a comp sci/eng major and I'm trying to get my feet soaked in android and other languages other than c++, ruby, and go. What I would like to do is take the base of android and rebuild it a little bit by adding features to make more use of our phones, somewhat like how the MIUI ROM is. However, I don't know where to start, I've tried looking up on Google about this, but I keep coming across ROM cooking, and that's not what I'm trying to do. Clearly, I need to learn java, and probably few more languages; as well as how android works as an os which I have. If anyone can lead me into the right direction by sending links on how to give android an overhaul, disect apk, ROMs, and the programs I'll need, I think I should be fine. Thank you in advance. Any insight would be ungodly as well.
Greetings!
I like Android very very much and all this developer stuff seems cool to me. I'd like to be able develop android ROMs, to fix bugs in new ROMs and stuff like that. I have very little to no programming experience in my life. Can someone point me to the right direction? Where should I start?
Thanks in advance!
Hello!
Now, who am I, I am a dude who got sick of his android phone and decided to take the initiative!
Well, you see, many many Android users get sick of their phones, of the bloatware by the manufacturers and their user interface, we got tired of not getting the updates and falling back!
So what do we do, we root and probably install a Custom ROM, pretty good eh, android is about choice after all!
So, what happened..I tried doing the same, didn't get satisfaction from the ROMs available for my phone, and now I am stuck
As they say, if you want something done, do it yourself, which is why I decided to take upon myself the responsibility of making a Custom ROM for the user, I want to leave the source code out there, for everyone and anyone to tinker with it and port it to his phone, and I wanted to create the ROM the Android master race deserves...created by a user for users
You might think "This is all wonderful, but where do I come in?"
You, sir, are the user, you are the one this project is created for, and I need your help
I need you guys to help me create this ROM, I need you to tell me what you want to see in that ROM (Marshmallow), I want you to tell me what features are needed and what features are desired, what do you guys think Android M lacks and what shouldn't be touched, what should I improve and what should be left alone, I need your help to make something you would want to use.
HEY, ANDROID IS ALL ABOUT CHOICE AFTER ALL, AND I WANT YOU TO MAKE THE CHOICE!
P.S.:If you could name your phone, what UI or CustomROM you're running (or any CustomROMs you have used before) and tell me what features were implemented there and I should recreate or improve, the pros and cons of your ROM
P.S.S: I know I am asking for too much here, but as you might have thought, this looks like lots of work.
If you are interested in helping or being part of the UberROM project (name subject to change), tell me here, if you're a dev with experience on porting ROMs and tinkering with the AOSP, let me know, I could use all the help I could get!
Thank you!
So I've started porting themes to Omni 4.4.4 as I pretty much adore material design.
So far I've managed to port everything except notification_header.Its not a deal breaker for me but If Im doing something I prefer it to be done right.
I've tried every possible way I know (which isn't really much as I'm pretty much starting to learn java).
So I would appreciate If someone would at least trow some suggestions at me.
I took on this "project" so I can learn java through practice, and so far I did,but this I dont know how to resolve.
If someone thinks they could help me,please feel free and if I didn't provide enough information don't move along to the next thread, point it,and Ill right my wrongs.
Help me learn
