Hi,
My phone reboots whenever I try to manage apps or check my storage settings or open the Play Store. I checked out last_kmesg and found that there was a kernel panic caused by an issue with the user data area. I can't clear user data through settings so I used Titanium Backup to start clearing user data and it died on it's ass when it got to Google Play Store.
I tried selecting just the Play Store and clearing data and it crashed straight away so I'm pretty sure it's the Google Play Store causing the issues. Given that I can't clear the data while the OS is loaded is there any way of doing it from TWRP or suchlike? I want to clear ONLY the Play Store info, I don't want to have to do a factory reset and clean ROM installation as I haven't got access to a USB cable to transfer ROM files over this weekend and it's a royal pain having to set everything up again.
I'm on Cyanogenmod 10.1.3-RC1, android build 4.2.2.

Titanium Backup has s feature called Wipe Data this will allow you to clear the Cache and Data from any app
In the list of app tap the one you want like Play Store then tap Wipe Data, it asks you to confirm the wipe tap yes go into setting application manager find play store and the data and cache will be 0.00kb

Yeah the moment I tried to access the com.android.vending directory my phone hard rebooted again. I managed to delete the directory in TWRP and now my phone doesn't reboot anymore! The Play Store doesn't work now though...
EDIT
Scratch that, after a couple of reboots it's up and running again sorted!

The Play Store displays no connection even with wifi. Already tried wiping dalvik cache, cache partition. Also tried force closing and clearing data from Google Play Services, Play Store, Google Service Framework. Help!!
Not enough information, your Play app could be corrupt, app settings, ROM or Google account.
Try logging into Google play on the website first to check the account works, then un-install Play app, re-install without settings, last try factory reset/reflash ROM.
It could be really simple or very terminal, like you've disabled a service or corrupted your ROM.

Thanks Muchly! Didnt think about the ad block.

found a better solution that worked for me without doing a factory reset or device wipe. just delete the hosts file in root/etc/, by using (total commander) app.then reboot ur device and run play store and enjoy. Make a copy of the "hosts" file just incase .
I hope it works for u guys , cuz it's really frustrating error.

Deleting the hosts file and rebooting worked for me too. Thank you! :good:
AdFree
When using a rooted phone and you used Freedom for free in-game purchases, and as a result your play store won't connect, it's due the host file as stated in previous comments by others. To get rid of this problem, simply revert your host file and download the new host (both in the adfree app). This should fix the problem, hope it helps
Wrong Gapps version
After trying all solutions posted in this thread, I realized that the whole problem was that I had flash the wrong version of the Google Apps for the android version.
You can find which is the right one for your CM in the CyanogenMod Wiki. Sorry, I can't add the link now, it is my first link.
Fixed mine by realizing that somehow my system date and time were wrong.

Woohoo! That was it for me. This is on my old phone that I let sit for 6 months. Charged it up but couldn't access the Play Store to update apps. Turns out the Date was 1/1/2005. Gave it today's date and it connected right up.

VIDEO TUTORIAL
While setting up the phone, I enter the gmail account details and while "Signing-in", a popup appears saying "Google Play Store has stopped working". I clicked OK and completed the setup.
When I try opening the play store from the app drawer, the same message appears and I have also tried signing-in to another gmail account, same message.
I tried this in Viper ROM and CM10.1 for Rezound and the TRON-Umbrella ROM.
Can some help with this?
Thanks
Are you fully wiping the phone between rom installs? Don't see any other reason it would carry over from one rom to another.

Yes, wiping data/system, cache, dalvik, boot, system twice.
I also tried "Force close", Wipe cache and data of Play store.
If you are using my backup to restore apps be careful as I've seen it backing up Google play services lately. Causes all kinds of issues when restored.

Have you tried skipping the step in the initial setup, then adding your google account through the settings > accounts?
So here is my basic issue at the moment:
I can get google play to work but uninstalling in titanium back up and reinstalling the apk manually and making it a system app. BUT it wont let me download apps or upfmdate apps or update google play services also I can't sync my contacts from my gmail account with my device. Thanks to one of the admins on here I was able to get google play up and running after it crashed the first time but sadly it has stopped functioning all together now. I have tried clearing the cache I haave wiped data but to no avail. I have even gone through the sames steps I used on my last thread to geet it working again but sadly the app fails after 2 to 3 minutes of being reinstalled. Does anyone know of a fix for this kind of an issue?
When I try to download apps it gives me the following error now
Error retrieving information from server
[RPC:S-7:AEC-0]
Wipe Cache in recovery
That got playstore up and running still no contacts syncing tho :/

restoring anything to /system using titanium in lollipop doesn't work, yet. Remove your google account in settings/accounts then wipe cache again, you won't lose anything. Then wipe data from google services and play store, you can use titanium to do that. Reboot, wipe cache again, then add your google account (do not restore it from a backup) in settings/accounts, and let it sync.
also,
if you're using any kind of nodded play store to do that first sync it won't work

I don't think I have a modded apk ill post the error codes I'm getting then try your method playstore just crashed and now I can't download apps :/
Try to get a apk of titianium backup and unintalll the playstore and replace it with a verison from a set of gapps
As it stands atm I cannot access playstore at all to update anything it stopped giving me error codes also. What I normally do when this happens is I uninstall playstore I remove my gmail account and wipe play services cache this used to fix it but now when I do all that playstore does nothing it just gives me a blank page
leaves no download anything from the play stor Error DF- DLA -15
wifi disconnects says saved network but does not connect .
downloads are cut.
and do not open any game, close instantly. but all the open apps without problem.
Regarding play store. Delete your Google account account, delete data for Google Apps, reboot and open play store again. After activating Google services the app clearly said that you have to reboot first!

From Windows... Go to the partition you installed Remix in, then go to RemixOS folder, you will find data.img there.
ALL FROM WINDOWS NOT REMIX OS
Can't remember the last time i used it, but tried to open it today and system says app isn't installed.
Icon is in the app drawer, but can't find it anywhere.
What's going on?

Strange. You or something has changed settings. Doesn't happen on its own.
Check your default apps and that it is set correctly:
Settings>>>App Management>>>>Default App
Check Phone is set to "system default". If not go into the list and select.
Hope that works.
If not...looks like a factory reset or update via recovery
Had the same issue.
I fixed it by going into "Settings>>>App Management>>>>Default App" and then change the System Launcher back to the default one that comes with the phone. I was using Microsoft Launcher before. Then, find the Phone Manager app and run it.
This is absolutely stupid. No idea why you can't run the same app in a different launcher. Oh well.
hii
a common issue
Sometimes the phone manager App doesn't come pre-installed, install it from play store.
For me, I clicked phone manager and then a message came out: Error 101. What is that?

A quick search helps:
Solve Error Code 101 in Google Play Store
The error 101 occurs due to the memory issue, which can be ROM / SD-card storage / Cache memory. But this error mostly gets solved by deleting some unused apps or by freeing the SD card memory.
Solution 1: Free memory card space by deleting unused Apps or content. Also, free up the Phone internal storage. It should solve the problem.
Solution 2: Remove the Google Account and open the Play store again and log in.
Solution 3: Uninstall Play store Updates Go To Settings Select Manage Applications or APPS Manager Tap on ALL Scroll and Look for “Google Play Store” Clear Cache and Data Click on Force Stop Select Uninstall Updates Reboot you phone and try again
Solution 4: Clearing cache and Data for Google Apps Go to Settings Select to Application Manager or Apps Under All , look for Google Services Framework Clear Data Cache and Click Force Stop NOW do the Same With Google PLAY STORE, Google Play Services, Download Manager Reboot your Phone, it should be working fine now.
