I did have a look at a port at one stage, but I have decided not to because:
Too proprietary when we have very good OS ROMs
Not enough time do port and debug a system that doesn't have source code
Better ROMs (read more interesting to me/devs)

i tried using rom porter but no luck,,,,,XD,,,,in the future may its possible,,,,,,

I like to have it to..more rom is better...

Understandable, but there aren't that many people here compared to, say.. the Note 3 section. It's like opening a McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, Starbucks, KFC etc. in a small town of 30 people. Only one or two of those will remain in business, so there's no point in opening anything else at the moment.
My point: We're a small forum section with maybe a couple of hundred people around here. We can develop 50 ROMs, but people won't use them because there aren't enough people that will use them. There are already a bunch of custom ROMs here that doesn't get any attention what so ever, and it's incredible sad to see.

I know exactly what I'm "missing" (MIUI was my primary ROM for more than a year on my DHD), and that's not much at all to be honest, and it looks like most other people also share this thought, or else we'd have it by now. The demand is simply not there.

Can't say I'm too keen on a MIUI rom, but when I made my switch from GNII to XZU I knew I was coming to a much smaller dev-scene. I do see some solid ROMS though, so we shouldn't fret too much. If nothing else, the community here looks pretty solid, at least we have that!

No, we can't develop for it cuz IPhone is designed for ios and if android is developed for iPhone then I think Apple would sue the developer ( not sure though ). We can't develop properly for it, we need proper packages, omx codecs ,proper libs. Finding or writing omx codecs is difficult job cuz there is difficulty in finding proper omx libs for android phones! How can we find for iPhone???
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda app-developers app
I know its very difficult...but if we try...it will be possible...I have googled it any many say that its possible but a bit tough and risky...for we need jailbreaking iOS....which is easy...then need to put our brains and start the Developement.
Well, you'd need proper drivers; either you get them from Apple or you're building them yourself (which is a real pain).
You'd also need to somehow get the Android kernel in there, which is also a pain, since ... well, it just is...
It's tricky, but I've seen a pair of iPhone 4s with Android on, i just don't know where and when...
Though Android still RULZ
Well it will be.difficult....but i have seen people using android iphone...i know we cant make a perfect rom but still we can make a compatible rom

Don’t forget, judging by all lawsuits (Apple vs the world) no body can develop anything similar to their products or use their products, whilst they continue to freely, so called, “innovate” what android been doing for years (i.e. “pull down notification” blatant copy).

Back in like ios 2 or earlier they used to have android in cydia....And,even then thr marker didnt work...
But as everyones saying...due to the fact that apple keeps everything clised source, sues everyone, and puts in a ton of security...it would be extremely hard and take months if not years...by the time we got it going for one there would be a new one...we hav no source to work with
The people that actually deveolp stock roms get paid and work in large teams and also have degrees in this sort of thing...its there job -and it still takes them about a year to release
Now look at us xda people...some of us,may have degrees in development. But many of us,are self taught. On top of that we all have a life outside of xda...jobs, family friends...so we really dont have that much time to work on stuff. Last...we are not paid...we do it cause we enjoy it...but i dont think anyone would enjoy building android for iphone simply cause you would pretty much have to creaye your own drivers and libs
So sorry to burst your bubble...but i dont see this ever hapoening. The end product isnt worth the work, not to mention the lawsuits apple is famous for...

i dont think it would make much sense. iphone has a processor about 800 mhz right? it wont create a performance thats near to any androidphone, it would probably lose against my x10 with 1ghz and 384 mb ram.... Maybe one could build donut or froyo for it andbthat would also run like it should after two years in development or so, but who would use it (you wouldnt by an iphone if android was on it, because any androidphone would give better performance for lower price, so you buy it because it works better than android and, oh yes, the apple...) I think it would be much cooler to port ios to work on androidphones, soon, when apple "invented" all features of android, it will still have the better performance, thet even hardest androidfans have to see.

iOS is closed source...that being said it requires permission to work with it. With out permission you are illegally working on it. It would not be allowed on xda due to lack of permission...
As for porting android to iPhone...as I said earlier I don't see that happening either...there's not enough demand and we have no drivers/proprietary files to work with

Switching to another phone possibly from LGOG =(

I loved this phone is did a lot of research and reviewed videos on this phone before I got it and it looked beast. I'm disappointed that there is SO LITTLE development with this phone, I'm thinking about switching to a more popular phone that everyone actually knows and cares to build roms for and support I really like this phone ,but again it just needs way more attention for me. Anyone else feels this way?

Patience is key. You can't force a dev to make a ROM or "develop" for a device. They have lives as well. Everything is pretty close to being here.
Besides if your not likening the "Development" you can always try and make a ROM buddy. Then maybe you can see how its not done overnight.
Oh look this thread again

@Phonephan, I totally hear where you're coming from. I would have hoped for more options by now as well, but I knew what I was getting into when I picked this bad boy up and that there was the chance its potential would go unrealized. However, Rome wasn't built in a day and there have been some unique challenges that some very good developers are about to overcome. Our empire is about to be built! We've already got a solid JB build that doesn't require conversion thanks to SnowLeopardJB. There are a couple solid ICS ROM's as well (shout out to team nocturnal, nygfan, etc.) The real treats are just around the corner and if you check in to the irc chat room you will see just how close. Hang in there bro, you'll be glad you did.

Funny to think that just a few years ago modifying the OS on your phone was not an option. Now folks cry when they don't have 100 variations of the same base rom within a week or two.
Maybe buy a device you like next time. Or wait longer and not buy the device on launch day, that way you can give the dev community time to work thereby ensuring you get an active community to take care of your flashing fix.
Why exactly do you feel the need to tell us that you're leaving? Did you do any development? Write any documentation? Are you afraid we wouldn't notice you were gone?
Sent from my LG-E970
Seriously!? We have an ICS phone that developers have transformed into an upgraded nexus 4. Other developers have domesticated foreign JB Roms so well that this phone has every feature enabled today. We may only have a few topics... But major progress happens in them. This is the height of Android options with native pure Google and branded on the most recent versions.
You can install Roms from 3 forums onto this phone... US OG, Intl OG and N4.
The conversion will really pay off in six months when this is the first device with SD card and full android 5 while every other phone has gmail 5... Converted to 4.1
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2
Okay...
Didn't see that coming. If you look at my post I said I'm possibly getting a new phone not telling you I am and I was asking people if they felt the same. Also it's been months since its release so the fact that it's only 2 real ROMs for this phone makes me upset no, disrespect to devs obviously but it does seem like this phone is getting like no attention and it's one if the best phones out. Converting to n4 is a bit too much just to enjoy this phone. This phone was meant to be an LGOG not a nexus ..it would have been named nexus
Anyways that was just a thought/concern I had about the phone.. Don't see why people are offended?
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
Nobody bothered to develop ICS Roms other than pretty much stock based ones since we were promised Jelly Bean so early and obviously that didn't happen. Once Jelly Bean gets officially released, I know the devs will be all over it and Roms won't be an issue. The nexus 4 conversion is easy to do, I did it intoxicated twice. So either do that or just be patient. We're just waiting on AT&T now

Lack of development?

I'm just curious as to why Verizon note 2 is lacking so much in the ROM development side of things compared to other carriers. Is it solely because we are still only 4.1.1? Just thought it would be interesting to see peoples input!

Didn't mean to step on any toes or anything. There just hasn't been hardly any development on here lately so I thought I would get something going. Yet Scott just released a zip that will allow us to flash t mobile, and att roms. Give me a moment, and I will find the thread, and post it here. If you want to see a dead phone, go look at the rezound. The phone is barely a year and a half old, and it is marching into obscurity. The droid incredible has more action. These threads aren't going to produce more roms, just bad attitudes. Try playing with all of the mods we have, and theme it to whatever you want it to be. Morphology, Xposed, and a slew of others. Troll the other carriers threads, and pull mods that you want. That is all we can ask for, unless you are paying the devs a paycheck.

Which have you tried? Both Jedi and Jelly Beans are both great. I am using the mod in my sig right now as I like that it keeps the samsung allshare features working.
With a combination of Jelly Beans, Widget Locker, and a theme you could pretty much get anything done you want. Pick up the odd app or mod here and there to fill in the gaps.
By the way, if you want to give 4.1.2 a go Jedi is running that. It is great if you don't need the Samsung services.

I think this has been my main take away from discussions, and browsing the other forums. Quantity in this case definitely does not equal quality. I don't see the point in having 10 options if only 2 or 3 are viable. However, that is just my opinion.
Most source built ROMs (AOSP) are going to have issues, whether major or minor, and are much easier to customize as you're dealing with XML and java. However, the lack of TW features keep people away from them.
With TouchWiz ROMs, you don't lose any functionality, but there is only so much that smali hacking can do. Most of this is just the time consuming nature of trying to hack a ROM via smali only. You could get everything in your favorite source built ROM if you wanted to take the time to do so. But, given that this is a for-fun thing and not a money making venture, developers aren't likely to take that amount of time if they wouldn't use it themselves.

What is a rom really? To me It's just a better version of what the manufacturer builds. The stuff is basically the same for the most part with the addition of tweaks for better battery performance etc... That are added by the dev. The thing that makes a rom different are the things like themes and different looking batteries etc..., so why have 100 roms that essentially are the same? I would prefer to have 1 rom that performs well with a bunch of themes and mods hence i only use meanbean and love the real icon theme, or morphology. Mean bean is a great rom and with pbj kernel even better.

stock android firmware has evolved into something so much better than it use to be...im still on beans build 2 because it flatout works and has all the things I need. Its hard to develop when stock touchwiz is so good out of the box. the only real thing that touchwiz needs is themeing. beans takes the cake on that. aosp was nice on my gs1 because it trimmed the fat and made the ol single core with limited ram run smooth. these quad core beasts are designed to handle bloat and a festure rich skins(touchwiz), so aosp does not have the appeal and performance advantage it use to. however for the folks that
keep this device well past tthe point verizon quits supporting it, then aosp will shine...simply for the fact it will bring the latest android offerings and keep the note 2 alive.
I think it had A LOT to do with TW and Spen/Note 2 specific features. Nobody really wants to lose them, and there's only so many ways to mess with TW. There's plenty of AOSP/KP stuff but look at the involvement compared to TW roms... It's there, but not as much... My take on it anyway.
Edit: Yeah, what Droidstyle said, lol.

Don't forget that Samsung has promised an update to 4.2 for the Note II sometime this year. No real timetable, but when it comes it will be a shot in the arm for development.
Myself, I bounce between Beans ROM and CyanogenMod. The S-Pen features are what generally keep me hopping, but both are good.

Let's not forget that a new method for S-off is still pretty new. That's the major reason why development was lagging behind and since then it's been booming. You already have several different 4.2.2 AOSP roms to choose from. Then you have the Sense 4+ and 5 roms that are perfect. I personally don't see how development is so bad.

There are no two ROMs that are the same right now in the original android development section.
If you go try each one out you will see that they really are very different.

Is it because they are mostly built from the same base? I can see that being confusing to some, thinking there is no real development going on.. However, the same base != the same rom. There is real development going on for our device and all other devices on these forums.. I for one feel we have plenty to choose from and things are only going to get better and easier down the road... May have an official Sense 5 rom for the devs to play around with if Verizon gets things going.. I love it here!! Am I wrong? :good: :highfive::highfive:

That was sarcasm. In other words most of our roms have a completely different feel. On the GNex there were a lot of dups for sure.
Considering that this is a Verizon exclusive, locked bootloader, low popularity, CDMA phone, I'd say that delopement here is going pretty good. We have plenty of Roms, consisting of stock Sense 4 based, Sense 5 based, and CM/AOSP based. We even have an alpha build of Sense 5 4.2.2! We also have decent kernel development, 2 or 3 for AOSP and several for Sense. I've come to trust @.torrented and @pio_masaki for giving you the best overall user experience and working with the user to fix and repair not only their ROMs but miscellaneous bugs completely unrelated to them. These two have made it a truly great dev community. Because of these two, I am perfectly fine with the stage of development on our devices. If either of you are reading this, I love you guys!
If extensive development is what you want, get off Verizon and buy a Nexus 4 or a Google Edition HTC One/SGS4

I don't think it has "low popularity" lol... Considering up till a month or so ago it was top selling if not near so on Verizon.

Don't get me wrong, its an amazing phone that could easily compete with the SGS4, but it's Verizon exclusive so it never made it to that status. It was a mistake on Verizons and HTCs part to make this beast a carrier exclusive.

well, considering that verizon sells the iphone and the SGS4 (and the SGS3 if you want to talk about 2012), will them having close to 50% and 30% market share, respectively, i dont really see how the DNA could have been anywhere near a top seller. not to mention the note 2 and others. i would probably label this phone "unpopular". most people have never even heard of this phone. i'm glad they are making the "droid" branding exclusive to motorola. the DNA's exclusivity to Verizon killed the awesome potential this phone had. but still, i think we have awesome development. except, i dont understand why we have 5 million aosp roms.

ROMS

It seems like it's taking a long time for ROMS to be developed for the Note 3 for Sprint?

With stock rom speeds being quite decent, with root you can remove bloat and with Xposed, you can add most of the features that custom roms give you.
One has to ask, what are you looking for in a custom rom?
Well I would have to say speed, user friendly, better battery life and also I want to still be able to use the stylus. But everybody is right, I'll just be patient.

I know that not everybody agrees with this, but I'm looking forward to the variety of non-Touchwiz ROMs like AOKP, SlimBean, MIUI, PAC-Man, etc.
I think one thing that hasn't helped is the large amount of "flagship" phones being released so close together. A lot more diversity happens when theres only one new kid on the block.
