[Q] Which PIT file? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My samsung GT-I9300 suddenly stopped working.
After entering recovery mode I found out that the phone cannot mount ANY file system (no access to /system /efs etc).
I then decided to flash the modem with odin v3.09.
I entered the download mode on the smartphone (by pressing hold, power, volume down) and connected the smartphone to the usb port of my pc.
Odin detects the phone (COM port number is displayed) but as soon as I start the process Odin reports that "there is no PIT file". I've found and tried a PIT file but that file isn't accepted.
The question is: how do I find out which PIT file I need?

That error message usually means you have a corrupt emmc chip. You can try flashing the rescue firmware (search in general forum) but probably need a new motherboard.

[Q] Download mode and internal flash broken?!

Hi,
after 24h of searching and try and error im writing this post. If i really missed some important informations, please be gentle
long story short:
was installing new kernel and theme via some kitchen app, and ended in a boot loop. would not be a big problem, if i could access the recovery menu, but i could not. i always tried also with pulled battery for some time before.
The only accessible "door" was the download / odin mode.
But Odin could not write the stock fw i wanted to install as "recovery"
Extracted the tar and installed via heimdall. worked. Now a kind of stock fw installed. FW was: GT-I9100_DBT_I9100XWKE2_I9100XXKDJ_I9100OXXKE2
Modem: XXKDJ
Phone: XWKE2
Well... If i remember correctly, i flashed in heimdall those files:
- cache.img
- hidden.img
- zImage
- facotryfs.img
- modem.bin
im not sure at those, but i know i flashed one or more of them also.
- Sbl.bin
- boot.bin
- param.lfs
so. heimdall did flash them, heureka i thought. but wrong. things would get worse.
NOW the situation looks like that:
- Download mode not longer working. lsusb under linux didtn show any output, windows recognizes it as "unknown device"
- stock recovery console is working and shows a few leftovers from my formerly working internal flash memory (the 12gb, u know?)
- stock fw cant access the internal flash mentioned above. nor will show it. android says: no sd card inserted.
- kies wont recognize the device in normal mode
- adb works in debug enabled mode.
- superoneclick wont work.
- installing any app wont work since there is no accessible flash/sdcard
im stuck, f*cked off, p*ssed on and really really tiered.
i dont know what to do now.
maybe someone has an idea or a sugestion i didnt mention or have forgotten?
any kind of logs i could provide?
with kind regards,
alteregon
i'm assuming you tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499
if so, i don't have another idea to rescue your device...
Thank you for your reply,
since the phone is not recognized from the pc in download mode, odin nor heimdall see it.
So recovery through download mode is no option, right now.
Two choices one USB recovery jig to se if it will get to download mode .
Second service centre .
No warranty with hacked phones so i suggest saying it stopped during a Kies update .
jje
Sooo. Yesterday i set up a clean xp install to sort out pc-side problems.
- the phone is only recognized correctly in debug-mode.
- normal mode gets error 10 and is not useable i.e. for kies.
- odin mode gets recognized as unknown device.
tomorrow i will solder me a 301k jig. But i dont exoect much from it. since it can go to download mode, but wont be recogniced from the pc.
at least the custom binary counter will be reset i hope.
for today, i will try to do everything possible via adb in debug-mode. since the sys is kind of working, i have still hope
does someone know how to flash the phone via running android?

[Q] Phone bricked itself overnight and Re-Partition operation failed.

Upon waking up this morning, I found that my phone was stuck on the (very first) Samsung logo. Before going to sleep, I was already booted and everything was stable.
I attempted to enter CWM recovery, but it would not work. It would continue restarting to show the Samsung logo.
Entering download mode, I see the following -
Product name:
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
This is strange, and pretty wrong. My product name is empty, custom binary download is "No" instead of at least "3" (I never have used TriangleAway), and I wasn’t using an official Samsung ROM before the problem.
If I attempt to flash a full stock, multi-part .tar.md5 file in PDA, ODIN v3.04 shows a "There is no PIT partition." error and fails. Re-partition is not ticked.
Therefore, I’ve tried to flash each of the following, with re-partition ticked:
GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit
GT-I9300_mx_20120322.pit
GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit
Each of them fail with a "Re-Partition operation failed." error.
If I try to flash a .pit file and the full .tar.md5, I get the same "Re-Partition operation failed." error.
Once a flash fails, I need to turn my phone off and on into download mode again, or else ODIN will stop.
The same thing happens for both ODIN v1.85 and v3.04, I’ve taken my battery in and out, I’ve tried this on two different computers, I’ve used every USB port, my Samsung drivers are up to date and Kies it not running in the background.
Maybe Your phone made a suicide, look on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993044
Similiar sympthomes, on mornig phone is dead and the PIT is unavaliable.

[Q] Encryption soft bricked phone

Ok, so start I took my SGS2 i777 with Shostock3 and tried to enable encryption on it. Should've been a simple click of a box and a reboot, right? The battery was charged and I had it connected to a cable. I hit start, it rebooted a few times, I entered my password halfway through, and woke up to it asking for my password as if everything was complete. I entered the password, then it loaded to the initial start screen and asked me to input all my google account info (even though I'd done this months ago). As soon as I'd hit start it would reboot the phone and I'd be back at the screen asking for my encryption password.
So I deleted all user data to see if that would help and then it wouldn't accept any password. Then I tried reflashing through recovery and adb but I always got the error that it couldn't mount /sdcard and /emmc. This seems to be the root of the problem. No matter what guide I follow, I can't access these. I can't format them either using CWM.
I recently followed guide titled: "Prepare Your Phone to Return to the Store or for Warranty Replacement by following these steps:"
and I get the following error when I enter the heimdall flash command.
(heimdall flash --kernel zImage --factoryfs factoryfs.img --cache cache.img --hidden hidden.img --modem modem.bin?)
Popup window saying Unable to mount the MTP device (although it shows up in my computer on linux mint)
"ERROR: Partition "kernel" does not exist in the specified PIT.
Ending session...
Rebooting device...
Releasing device interface...
Re-attaching kernel driver...
"
After having previous issues, I tried flashing the PIT using the --pit command in heimdall, under the assumption that the encryption ruined the formatting.
Summary:
So right now I can get into recovery and download modes through CWM but nothing I do has any effect. I've put new .zip files on sd cards and it doesn't work, .zip files through adb won't work, and heimdall is giving me these issues.
Any other ideas? I know since I can get into download mode that it shouldn't be that hard to fix, but I can't find out what to do right now.
If you can, I would suggest you use a windows computer with Odin to flash back to stock.
I know very little about encryption except that it seems to be loaded into a partition that is not changed by flashing or wiping.

my s3 not worked ?

Error Cannot Update Software

Hello,
I've Samsung Galaxy SM-J701F/DS and i did factory reset and started getting into panic mode. So, I tried to flash stock ROM through odin and I only selected AP and left other files like Bl, CP and CSC. Thus it took longer time without any result so, I closed the odin. Since then my phone only boots in download mode.
And while trying recovery or normal boot I get " Error Cannot Update Software ".
I used this ROM:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/...-nxt/SM-J701F
And now my phone is showing as Samsung USB Modem while plugging in PC.
