On my previous mobile - a Galaxy SIII - when in Contacts, if you dragged a contact to the left it opened Messaging so you could send a text and if you dragged the contact to the right it dialed the default contact number.
I thought this was a Google feature but it is missing from my Z2. Have Sony removed it or was it a Samsung add-on?

It's a Samsung add-on.
Ok, thanks for that. I don't suppose anyone knows of a replacement app that does that?

Exdialer, pixelphone
Thanks Bronek, I'll give them a go.

In my opinion exdialer is better.
DialApp!

Haha, I also missed that Samsung function. I think most new owners of Z2 here came from Samsung so we are still getting used to a different Android design. I also missed the Share Contact Information where it automatically copies the contact details to SMS format to send contacts. Now, I need to copy paste the mobile number to the SMS which is 4 steps more.
Yes, it's not until they're gone you realise the number of little things you took for granted
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
These little things are the ones Google should improve on; fast and efficient way of doing things in a smartphone. Even iphone users are still stuck with copy paste which I used to joke them about. Too bad Sony didn't have that function so I'm in the same boat as iphone users already.
I did not miss the boalted ugly touchwiz at all. How heavy and boalted touchwiz is samsung had to abandon the kit Kat update for the international version of S3 as it was failed to boot with heavy touchwiz interface
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
I never used Touchwiz. I went straight to Apex. I'm now using Nova on my Z2.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
Touchwiz made me want to tear my eyes out, this feature is the only one of Samsung's gimmicks I used. Loosing it is worth it for a sexy phone like the Z2.

As most of you already know, whatsapp's security was compromised. I seek for a properly crypted replacement. It should be cross platform (I mean it should work equally on Android and IOS). What is your choice and why? How secure is your program of choice? Thanks you in advance.:good:
I found no issues with WhatsApp
don't know about security, but I use Line. it's the same as whatsapp but it's free. no need to pay $1.99 a year for server costs.

i was actually checking out what's so insecure aboit whatsapp and here's what I dug up:
http://support.pandasecurity.com/blog/security/whatsapp-is-insecure-myth-or-reality/
while it is technically insecure, the condition that require a successful hacking of any whatsapp message requires the hacker to know alot about you as well as your phone. I doubt any hacker gives a damn about what lovey dovey messages you send to you significant other or your "Check this link out bro! fking hilarious video!" messages.
I personally stopped using whatsapp due to using Line which is free and visually nicer.

hi,
i'm using im + pro for my Google and icq contacts.
you can always go with non-paid version, which has no chat history backup and few things removed.
I also use im+ best alternative app IMHO.

I've been using Go Sms Pro since it first ce to Android. It was hands-down the best sms replacement in my opinion. The last two updates however have changed my opinion about it. They started pushing Ads like those annoying scam apps. The last one in particular made me uninstall it. It now places Ads on the bottom of the screen. I'm done with them.
Is there any app besides Handcent, Chomp, Texter that is a good pop up sms replacement. There are many apps on the market aand I've personally come across some awesome apps that wasn't on the top of the list of best apps. So is anyone has some suggestions on apps they use or come across, I'd appreciate it.

Mysms. If the person you're texting also got it installed then the text will be send over cellular data, else it'll be send as normal sms over your carrier.
I'll look those up.

Handcent sms here, because it has greek sms mode(it removes special characters), any other app that have the same feature?

Np man, it can also be used as a standalone app without the use of the stock messaging app.

you can simply use ad blocker
it is not in play store as it is blocked by google https://adblockplus.org/en/android-install
it is the same one you uses with Mozilla and llinux
I know I've seen it before but I can't remember where, but I am looking for an app that can send and receive text messages via Bluetooth or WiFi I don't really want to use Google voice due to the voicemail portion always sucking. The ones I've found on the play store always seem to have tons of bad reviews. Thanks.

I use MightyText and it works really well. I can send and receive text and picture messages immediately. Some other ones I tried take really long before I can send a message, but this one is quick!
Mighty text is great

AT&T had an app called AT&T messages for the tablet. It allows you to access all your messages and when you send a text it shows up as coming from your phone.

I just set this up using DeskSMS / TabletSMS. The text messages send via my phone (and are also visible on my PC via a Chrome plug-in). I am very happy with it.
Of course it requires the phone to have an active data connection as well as the tablet, so that might not be what you are looking for.
Is there way to use tablet talk without the headset? Talk through the tablets microphone and hear through the speakers?

Some people like me have a phone and a tablet, hangouts sync fine and is smart when using my tablet the message don't beep on phone, logs gets mirrored smartly, but as fur the rest of the apps we are not able to login from the tablet without it logging us out from the phone.
Apps such as wechat snapchat and whatsapp.
This needs attention or else my next intention is zzzzz to the techno world if no one else thinks this isn't an issue.

Mod this thread might be at the wrong place because it's not question of trouble shooting but it's for the developers to chip in their feedback about such an important missed collaboration from the Android OS, adding door for tablets account into a diffrent kind of sync level may be an idea for the root development. The app development may take it as a risk in privacy or security but we are way ahead with security when thinking at the percentage. Anyways please relocate the thread or I'll post a clear one later if u can point me the place where. Thank you

Found a great help in progress, which can atleast show u the notification message from whatsapp or from any apps to ur other devices it's called pushbullet https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pushbullet.android

+1 raising the topic. I found this thread because I'm searching for a solution to using WeChat on both a tablet and a phone. We can't be the only people in the universe doing this. It's annoying to have to log out/in/out, but it's even more frustrating that I can't sync my conversations -- so each one is incomplete. ugh
The BlackBerry bridge has this option but u will have to connect your accounts to the BlackBerry service , however it seems promising, though I never used it

Has there been any development on this front? it's been a few years since this topic has been brought up. Whenever I google this problem i only see that you can sync between ipad and iphone. Not sure why wechat's chaining to that, would like to use it between android phone and tablet.
