I have D6503 from Taiwan. I'm running the FW 17.1.A.2.69 and I'm trying to figure out why I don't get the option to update the Walkman or Album apps to the latest version. For example, my Album app is currently at 5.4.A.0.24 however a newer version 6.0.A.0.26 is already available (with the new layout). The Walkman app is stuck on version 5.x as well.
Is there something I can do to force the update ? What am I missing here.
Have you tried launching the Update Center app and search for updates?

I had the same issue with my Z2, from Taiwan also. I was able to update the album app but I wouldn't see any updates for the walkman app. I was able to update the walkman app by downloading the appropriate apk though.

Yes, I'm sure I can get the APKs easy enough I just don't get why I have to jump thru hoops for what should be an OTA app update. Can anyone shed some light on this ?
One thing I seem to remember is that when I first turned the phone on, I think there was a pending app update and a system update. The system update seemed to go thru first, the apps obviously did not complete.
I had the same issue TW device on 69. Waited two days for walkman update and ended up downloading apk. It was updating fine on 55.

Very interesting. So perhaps its something with this update. I think I'll post a thread on the Sony Mobile forums to hopefully put this on their radar.

In Canada I'm still on the .55 update and am not able to update using the ota update section in the settings, it says no update available. Is there anyway to update to the new firmware? I'm having a few bugs and was hoping this would fix it.

I am on TW .69 firmware and I also don't have any updates for Album or Walkman. Album is on 5.4.A.0.24 and Walkman on 8.1.A.0.7.
What are the latest versions and where can I get them from?
Thank you.
Album 6.0.A.0.26
Walkman 8.3.A.0.5
Search, they are on XDA somewhere.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Found them. It's strange because on .55 one of the first things to update are the Album and Walkman but on .69 ... nothing.
I'm waiting for a UK .69 (or Central Europe)

New updated Market (11/01/2011). It's being pushed to some handsets.
Download:
Android Market 3.3.11
What's changed?
+++New setting: Auto-update apps (presumably, sets all apps to auto-update mode, woohoo!)
+++New setting: Update over Wi-Fi only
+++New setting: Auto-add shortcuts (automatically adds homescreen shortcuts for new apps, ala Honeycomb)
+++Smaller font
+++New app drawer icon
+++Microphone (voice command) button in search menu
+++Star rating chart on app pages
+++Minor UI tweaks
sweet thank you!

I had the same problem and it was messing up a lot. Go to settings > applications > market > uninstall updates on whichever one will let you. Then I cleared data/cache for both and restarted. Back to only 1 market now- the old one, but I'm fine with that until it updates on its own.
Just goto new Market Settings -> Applications -> Market
Uninstall Updates
Thats it !!
Now u will have only one old version of market..

I just installed.
Worked very well.
But i still have 2 markets.
I think there will always be 2 markets if you install this because it's the handset (phone) version and we have the tablet version, so there's no way android knows to replace one with the other, and you can't delete the market apk without root.
is really better the 3.3.11 is a lot faster, and what about having two markets? just add a icon for the newest and just use that

Except for the fact that they interfere with one another and cause lots of fc's
yes, trying it for a while i discover that, but, today i got and update OTA, and guess my surprise having an android market 3.3.1.1 official!!!! and it works just fine
Yeah I noticed that too! Sweet!
Any way to get the previous Market widget?
With the new update I no longer see what changes have been made to updated apps. It used to display the info in the update section but now there are no change notes.
OK so, I can not get all the youtube videos to run smoothly in my Xperia S, I have locked bootloader so I flashed [FIRMWARE][6.0.A.3.75] Central Europe Generic [Gingerbread] and the youtube app is up to date (Including today´s update), this happens mainly with HD videos and not all of them, Netflix works ok and HD videos in the flash memory also runs.
Anyone else have this issue?

ohh ok then I´ll think about it
Hi
I've been using bit torrent to download albums and paste them in to my Walkman player.
I do know that using p2p softwares can be harmful. However I scan my phone using the clean master app from the play store and the results are always "no harm found"
But for a strange reason my phone suddenly won't send or receive texts or calls. I have written another post asking for people help on that.
My question is could it be because of bit torrent and clean master can't detect it.
It is a coincidence that my phone stopped working properly after a few days of using bit torrent l. ( I have around 4gb of music on my phone that I've downloaded from bit torrent)
Thank you...

There is no such thing as viruses on android, 99% of anti~virus and security crap is usualy a placebo
Bittorrent is official bittorent so its safe
And the Z2 FW is a bit buggy, stuff can stop working so try factory resetting

Understood. I just reset my phone by using."back up and reset" in the settings menu. Nothing changed. As I have just read what you said I'm going to look into using Sony PC companion.
P.S is flashtool and Sony PC companion legit. Meaning will they mess up my phone or my computer with malware?
What's the easier and safest tool to use?
Thanks..
Haroon
Sony PC companion is official, it will download firmware through the app and install it to your phone. Flashtool isn't official but is trusted - although you do need to source and download the relevant firmware yourself to flash to the device (making it more difficult and maybe less secure than the official Sony software.)
Neither will install malware on your phone (just don't download it from a dodgy website).

Well just a side note, quite a few of the issues with the Z2 are caused by google because 4.4.2 isnt the most stable android release ever and neither it being bugless
Alot of wifi, data and system stability issues are caused by 4.4.2 android not sonys rendition (of course sony tried patching)

Yeah 4.4.2 is pretty bad. Google should make a new update!
One of the worst thing of the 4.4.2 update is definitely the fact you cant move your apps to your SD card, unless you flash your phone. Ive tried apps like app2sd and it wont work on 4.4.2. Its so limited in how you can spread and balance your data. I have a 128gb SD card and have trouble copying my music and videos from the phone to the SD card all the time.
Damn GOOGLE

i had this simular on my Z2 as well
its caused by the device either being rooted or bootloader unlocked, somtimes sonys wierd update system just glitches out if your neither root or UB
None of the above. Sony had rolled out a minor patch (~25MB) on the existing. 314 firmware. nothing to worry about.
Only minor inconvenience would be to root again.

Might be a bug fix (performance improvement etc. etc.). No clue. May be check with Sony! Doesn't really matter though.
May be to patch root exploit?
small updates from sony are usualy bug fixes or performance increase.
security seems to be a big problem for sony because they always try to patch exploits
generaly bigger things would come with new android versions,
I remember at some point before some software updates the Facebook app used to be show notifications via the little round badge on the top-right of the app icon. It hasn't been working since I did an update (not sure what version it was). In the app permission info this function is still listed there. Do you guys have the same issue too?

Brah I think you're the only one who uses that on this site.
Anyways I'm not sure if you can downgrade an update, but what you can do is flash an earlier version of your ROM and then disable/ignore the updates
So knowing what version of Android you're using would help.
