Good Day folks, here is the long and short of it.
Galaxy s 2 fell and the screen broke
I bought a new screen
Replaced the screen BUT two big problems occured.
1. The screen appears to have less colours than my original screen
2. NONE OF THE SOFT KEYS WORK, HOME, MENU AND BACK DO NOT WORK.
Number 2. is the big problem. Does anyone have any idea how these buttons work?
Even when I press the buttons directly with my fingers with the buttons off they still do not work.
Im baffled. Please help.
I also have attached pictures of the button area
It happened to me, I removed the screen, I replaced from beginning and it worked...
Hi Collado, do the white things behind the buttons have any electronic functionality or are those just things to make it stick?
To all future readers. I found out what the problem was. Basically,
The home, back and menu keys are all connected to a single ribbon. It appears there is a tiny piece, connected via the back key. That was torn while i was ripping off the the screen and digitizer.
See the picture attached
How much did you pay for your replacement screen and where did you get it. My digitizer is broken due to a drop. My front glass is perfect but the digitizer is completey shot. How difficult was this project?
Hi Johnboy
I cant remember the price of the digitizer offhand but make a check on ebay.. that is where i got it.
Difficulty is high as you need the minature tool set to do this effectively and a gentle touch.
However, it still appears as though the screen I bought has less colours.
Sorry to jump in and unintended hijack
I also dropped my S2 and cracked the screen, and after checking around dropped it in to the Geek Squad at CPW. Who duly replaced the screen and digitizer for £80. Only problem is the screen seems less bright and if moved off the central viewing angle the screen dims, as if it wasa standard lcd and not the orginal AMOLED screen. Does anyone know if they make lesser screens or was it fitted badly.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
DM.
I would go back with it and complain. If you dont get satisfaction then do an impression of the guy that goes into the pizza shop in "rise of the foot-soldier" film.

Some oddball complaints I just heard (not saying they necessarily make sense):
- Screen image yellowish: Apparently an early production issue?
- Power button sort of wobbly
- Bad protection film on screen ( can't it just be pulled off and replaced by a 3M or so?)
- Videostream playback crappy when Bluetooth is active?
Protection
I have seen the display protector on Youtube, he thought it was a standard one and thought it could be taken off, so I would say it's not good. Maybe we can just replace it
I can confirm that on me device (SGP311DE):
Screen image is yellowish!
my SO- 03E screen is heavy yellow!!
will you return it?
Compare the Xperia Z display to a white sheet of paper. If one has other devices (many of which can have a blue/hi temperature cast to them) the sudden change to a white or even a warm screen can look very yellow.

It has a yellow tint compared to a white paper too.
I am not bothered by it though.
So, basically:
screen yellowish: yes.
power button sort of wobbly: yes..but not even close to the "I am afraid it will fall off" area or something like that.
bad protection film - cannot confirm, the film is fine
bluetooth audio - got nothing to test that.
On my Tablet Z the USB port doesn't deliver enough current to power a 2.5" external harddisk.
The disk works fine with a Nexus 7 and an Acer A700.

Screen colour looks absolutely fine to my eyes.
Power button is a little bit wobbly. I can't understand why that would bother anyone though.
I immediately removed the screen protector film. It looked like standard packaging stuff rather than attempt at a proper permanent screen protector. I never use screen protectors anyway.
Video playback of a full HD movie with sound playing through bluetooth speakers was faultless.
Hope that helps.

err... You do not mean the sticky tabe which was on the screen fresh out of the box? Because that isn't the screen portector film.
Do you still have the Sony logo on the top left? That one is printed on the screen protector film, so if you had removed it there would be no logo anymore either.

I do still have the logo, in which case I would say it's very, very good screen protector film.
Is the back of the tablet made by the same back material used in the xperia s?
And is ir true that the wifi models don't include sd card support?
Thanks

WiFi only models have sd card support.

- on 3g model - it's perfectly white, without any yellow hints, but I heard it's a problem only with wifi-only models. But cannot confirm, since haven't hold them in my own hands.
- kinda, little bit, doesn't bother at all.
- Yeah, it is bad. It doesn't really help with fingerprints, and it scrathes really easy. I've removed it on my tablet, and, by the way, logo printed on tablet itself, not on the protection film.
- haven't tested it, but even if so - it sounds more like software problem, so it can be fixed in the future.

WOW, I didn't even know there was a screen protector on it, I bought one with the table and was slowly getting round to fitting it...guess I have a spare now.
I've been very happy with mine, Bluetooth audio and SMB movie streaming from my Windows server works great. Powers my external SD card reader without additional power.
But I have just raised a case with Sony about my screen, since this morning I've got a very yellowish area along the right hand side of the screen, only noticeable on light backgrounds. Looks like a burn mark or something similar.
Will have to see what happens there.

Last time I saw partial screen yellowing along an edge, it was due to glass separation along that edge from the chassis on a 32 GB Wifi Nexus 7. The image was also grainier than on my old (and currently only) 16GB Nexus 7. Don't know if that helps in the diagnosis.

Did you put a new screen protector on? From the sounds of it I'll be taking it off straight away, but I don't like screen protectors, so I don't want to add another.
If so, is it fine? Are there any hairline scratches? Cheers

No I haven't, but plan to do it later, cause the screen itself attracts to much fingerprints. But in terms of scratches - there are none so far, even though I don't use cover also. And I doubt there will be anytime soon, cause if I'm not mistaken they use dragontrail glass, same as on Galaxy Nexus, which I didn't bother to put protection on, and which is still like new even after a year of intensive usage.
I just purchased a new Xperia Z2 (D6503), everything worked fine.
But I noticed there is a tiny bright light/spot looks like this "-", about 1-2 mm long, located at the left corner of the bottom bezel (which is all black) on the front screen. It is most noticeable when the screen is on. When the screen is off, this tiny light is also off, just looks grey.
I wondered what this light is for , and found no results in the user manual. I searched Z2 phone pictures online and all the bottom bezel on those phone looked whole black without any light. So i'm worried if my screen is defective.
Please help me check if you have the same light on the bottom left corner of the bezel.
Thank you!

I'm new to this phone too, but I don't have anything like you describe. I think you may have a faulty device.
Maybe damaged pixel? Not sure, but I'm sure it is faulty hardware, take it to Sony for warranty repairs.

Is it on the display or off the display?

off the display , in the black bezel region at the bottom of the front of the phone.
It is most likely a manufacturing defect where the the bezel was scratched on the back side. This causes light from the backlight to bleed through the glass when the display is turned on. Sorry OP, maybe try to exchange it?
Hello dear XDA Devs,

Firstly try to clean the screen without any stain or greases...
Try to tweak the sensitivity by changing the figure in /system/usr/idc/max1187x_touchscreen_0.idc (touch.filter.level = 5)...
Try to play around to get the best for ur device...
BTW white water marks due to water damage device??

This device has no water damage, that's what i wanted to say . Because of touch.filter.level: Sorry that i didn't sayed that i already tryed this whith best results @ 7, which is too high for a pen input, but the device doesn't go crazy that often.
Yesterday i've seen that you can fix this on Nexus 4 by reisolating a cable. If this is the case on ZU i'm gonna send it in for Warranty.

Better just send back to Sony...
I'm facing similar problems with my ZU =/
After I've tried to replace a protective skin for my display, the phone started to present ghost touching. I mean, a LOT of ghost touching. As my warranty expired a few months ago, I sent the phone to a private maintenance and now they want to replace the whole screen.
Do you think I'll have to replace the screen or maybe there's a way out of this? Here in Brazil, replacing the screen can be as expansive as buying a new phone (and I must confess that I'm tempted to forget about my Z Ultra and buy a Z2), so if I could fix this in some another way... well, that would be terrific.
Thanks in advance!

maybe this will help. Its the Fix i found for the Nexus 7
I started to have a lot of that Phantom touches after taking off my aftermarket screen protector. **** was so annoying. I still have the anti shatter film but don't want to mess with that crap so I installed another screen protector and everything is normal again.
It has been 1 month since installing the new screen protector and no ghost touches.

Well... I must confess that the idea of installing a new screen protector never occurred to me
I guess this could worth the shot, actually. Anyway, I've ordered a new display (got a really good price... way way cheaper than the official maintenance was charging), so if the new screen protector won't work out, I'll proceed to replace the whole display.
Hello people!
I just dropped my phone display first into the floor.
The only visible damage is a tiny arced crack at the right edge of the screen, but that was enough to screw up the whole touch screen because the phone seems to activate touch around the crack, which leads me to my first question:
1 - Is there a way to disable part of the touch screen?
I can live without touch in the area of the damage, just not without any working touch
2 - Is there a way to hardware test using a PC to evaluate the extent of the damage?
3 - Do I buy just the screen, the screen + LCD or screen + LCD + frame?
4 - How do I know which OEM of Ebay to buy? Can I trust the ones saying it's an original Sony Screen + LCD?
Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. I do believe there are more people out there with same or very similar questions.
HI,
I had craked my z2 screen twise
in my experience u need to replace the whole LCD screen .
i had craked my Z before, but for Z , the crak didnt affect other parts , you can use the phone , but for z2 no hope.

you can weirdly find glass and screen put as one but thats some sort of odd scam :/

Thank you so much for giving me the answer I wanted to hear. Unfortunately I can't find any videos on how to do this for the Z2. Have you done it? I'm curious to know whether the display is allover glued to the digitizer as in the case of the Z1 or if it's just glued around the corners of the screen as in the M2. Mind you that this is simply observations I've made from watching youtube videos, so the above mentioned information might not be correct.
man, u cannot separate the display and digitizer . its a single glass. for Z2. u need to replace the single glass
You could try finding parts from aliexpress, try looking through the feedbacks before ordering.
Or if you are not too bothered by the cracks you could just put on a screen protector or a tempered glass screen protector.
Try going into youtube and search witrigs for teardown and repair videos.
Wish you good luck! ?

What might be a problem? LDC-screen is broken?

Yeah!
I did take a chance and purchased a new glass without display. Good news is I never got an opportunity to use it, so I might be able to return it. Bad new is I'm now buying a front glass and lcd.
Even though it might technically be possible to just exchanging the front screen, I would say it's highly improbable that you will successfully do so.
Judged by my level of technical tinkering, I would say that a vast majority of the people in this forum will probably fail in exchanging front glass without exchanging lcd.
I'm not saying this to put anyone down, but I'm giving you the advice I wish I would've gotten before getting over-confident.
So for goodness sake,
BUY FRONT GLASS+DIGITIZER+LCD, and save yourself both time, headache, and possibly money
Hi, i'm waiting for my Z2 replacement screen and i have a question for those who have changed it, does the sensitivity of the touch screen is the same like the original? I mean the option that you can use the phone with gloves...
Thanks!
How much did it cost u, repairing the screen
