Sorry if this is in the wrong section. Didn't really know where to put it so if it is, would a mod please move it to the correct section?
So across the forums I've looked at many custom roms and kernels, and i see that some say built with Linaro *version* -o3 and others that say built with Linaro *version* -ofast. I'm taking a guess that they are build options in linaro(correct me if I'm wrong). Now could someone please explain futher about what they are and what they do? Thanks in advance.:good:

Suggested Thread Idea(Sorry if in wrong section), if devs do not want this, could a mod please delete this? Thanks!
This thread is meant to relieve the load on devs and provide a source of ideas for them. No offense to devs, I'm not insulting your capabilities. Besides, I hardly know any programming.
Anyway, I'm thinking of collecting suggestions from the many people who make up this X10 mini developing community. I'm sure all of us would want to help as this benefits everyone. Also, some of us here have knowledge of Linux Kernel programming(although not in android) and could help. No questions are to be posted.
Here is an example of the format needed -
Kernel Unlocking - Fool the bootloader! <- This is the title.
Concept: Instead of trying to deactivate or skip the locked bootloader, is it possible to actually fool the bootloader into thinking the one you are trying to load is legitimate? Perhaps by imitating the properties of the kernel that the bootloader looks for, we could load a custom kernel onto the phone.
So, a question to devs - would you rather want or not want this? Thanks!

That's your source for everything android. There also is a thread about basic custom ROMS in this forum, it's stickied
Please always look at the stickies + search a bit before asking a question

A Request to all kernel developers..
I am really interested in kernel developement and in depth understanding for Xperia Devices..
But i cannot find a proper tutorial that explains everything from setting up the build environment,Using github to compiling the kernel from sources..
It will be really helpful if anybody provide me a link to existing tutorial or guide and make a new one..
It will help a lot of people who are interested in development..
Sorry if there is a thread like this already..
Regards..

Hi, I don't know if still helpful but building kernel in android is the same as linux and the same for evry device.
You may follow this rule to build your own kernel and patch it with the patch you find online or in other kernel thread.

pls remeber this that its a forum for adults who like sharing heavy knowledge AND not looking for n00by-dooby problem's
sry to say that but i know a bunch of ppl who complain about this in some xda threads, so nxt time if u have a problem pls do first some 10 mins google research https://www.google.de/search?q=how+to+built+a+kernel&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:defficial&client=firefox-a&gws_rd=cr&ei=QfYZUq2MA8bRtAbo7YDYAQ#fp=1643bda966ad7fb1&q=how+to+built+a+kernel+xda&rls=org.mozilla:de%3Aofficial&safe=off

Hi,
I would like to remove a driver complied into the samsung kernel I was wondering what is the best way to go about it and how ?
Please try to very detailed I'm a newbie, links , guides and all related info are welcome.
(I've seen that there are various samsung based custom kernels so I'm guessing that recompiling the kernel might be the way, but being new to it I would need guidance)
I think its more complicated than you think.
Have you got a Linux based build environment?
Read this to understand the dependencies
http://source.android.com/source/building.html
Then read all the links down the left hand side.
Then you need to download the kernel source from samsung. Big job. If you're a noob, I reckon 6-12 months practice before you can compile a safe kernel. Maybe less if you have more time. Like no job / school / family etc

Thanks you,
I do have the build environment set up however if it would take that long to manage to compile a safe kernel using samsung sources its probably not the solution for me.
Would it be easier to re-compile one of the samsung based kernel released here ?
The sources should be fine to compile. Im really including learning to modify the source as you want. Once you understand the make commands etc, compiling the source is straight forward with no changes

Oh, that sounds reasonable.
It would be great if you could help me start out on the proper way of getting the compiling the samsung sources as is, and I could take slowly from there.

Have a read of the links on the left hand side of the google page I gave you. These should teach you what commands you use.
Hi All,
First of all apologies if this has been covered in another thread. I've had a long search around and can't seem to find any answers to my question. If i have missed it please point me in the right direction.
I am looking to install cyanogenmod 10.2 onto my S3 i9300 international (currently running the terrible 4.3 updated update).
My first question is how do I know if clockwork mod is installed on my phone? And if it isn't what is the best way of going about setting it up?
Second question is which kernel should i be using to get the best performance/ battery life balance? Also how do i know which kernel I currently have? ( I literally know nothing about this subject)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to learning all the benefits to custom roms and, hopefully grow my knowledge so i can stop pestering you guys.
Cheers all.
Sticky threads will tell you all need to know, follow the guides and advise.
Best rom/kernel threads are not allowed, as is posting questions in the general thread.
