I read in the Developers forums that you can get Cwm for Locked Bootloaders. Ive been trying to get it for a week and can this be done? I bought the Ultra at Bell and it says its model number c6806 and its locked.

However just because you have CWM, doesn't mean you can flash ROM's.
All you can do is flash Root, and other mods.

sorry for the quick question, but would that work on the C6802 on .257, with locked bootloader? i've been wondering if i could get root without unlocking the bootloader(to preserve warranty).

yes you can root with a locked bootloader.
to unlock your bootloader you need to have root access.
You can always backup your TA partition, and then unlock bootloader, and then restore the TA partition and restore bootlock as well.

hey thank you sir for the response. I got my phone with .257 version already on it tho, and from what I'm reading, I can't find a way to root on .257 without unlocking the boot loader. is this correct?
as I see it, the only option I have on .257 is to unlock the bootloader with the Sony method, but no way to root first. am I mistaken? thanks!

What you could do is use flash tool to go back to another firmware, then root, and then update to the newest version. But not flashing the kernel. then you can flash the modified kernel with CWM, and then flash the new kernel afterwards.
I think there is a tutorial on here that tells you how to do it.

ah yes, OK, that's what I was wondering, whether it is possible to downgrade the firmware with a locked boot loader, using Flashtool. perhaps I will try.. thanks
I just remember on some other devices I've had, a locked boot loader wouldn't allow a firmware downgrade.

I had posted this in the Z forum, not realizing there was a Z Ultra forum. So I will just quote my previous post and add some info at the end:

I'm trying to load the Paranoid Android custom ROM.
Had a couple of questions:
1. I went thru Sony's instructions to unlock the bootloader. When I ran the fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock (e-mail code), the first error message I got was "FAILED - Remote - Command did not succeed". So I tried the exact command again, and then I got "FAILED - Remote: The device is already rooted".
I have searched high and low, and cannot seem to find any way to verify that the bootloader is now in fact unlocked.
2. Reading the instruction on how to install CWM/TWRP recovery menus, Every single list of instructions includes the following "This tutorial is only for Sony Xperia Z Ultra with 510 and 493 LTE firmware. Do not use it for any other carriers or variants"
Again, I have searched high and low to find a way to confirm what firmware version I have. All I know is I have the C6806 model, with the build number: 14.2.A.0.290
So can someone please help out a very confused guy here? I don't want to brick my phone by accident

So far, after doing some major searching, I seem to have found that I currently have "290" Firmware, and that this Firmware is currently NOT able to be rooted. Is this correct?
Also, I still have not found a way to verify wether the boot loader actually did unlock or not. From what I have been able to read, it seems that if a proper boot loader was in fact, unlocked, it would have wiped all the data on my phone along with the SD card data.
So far, it seems everything on my phone is intact. So does this mean the boot loader unlock command failed for me? If so, why did I get the reply "this device is already rooted?"
I can't believe how difficult it is to root a damn Android phone! Jailbreaking an Apple device is 10 times easier!
First of all, it's usually pretty easy to root Android devices. In most cases it's only a simple click, but sony has done a good(?) job at fixing exploits, so it does it much harder for us.
Second, you can check if your bootloader is locked or unlocked by opening the dialer and insert *#*#7378423#*#*, go to "Service Info" and then "Configuration". If your bootloader is unlocked, it should say "Rooting status: Bootloader unlocked: Yes". It's easier to use Flashtool to unlock the bootloader if you're having issues using a terminal.
You'll find the rest here (including bootloader unlocking). If you need some help, ask in that thread.
If you aren't boot loader unlocked then "BACKUP TA PARTITION" from My Lord's guide @LordManhattan

First of all it' pretty damn complicated and unrewarding to root a Sony device. Not all android but Sony definately. We checked, bootloader is unlockable. We unlocked and relocked bootloader prevoiusly because there is no robust, easy-to-install ROM for ZU. But time to time we try to root it.
Now, the question is the same: what should we do to re-unlock the bootloader if anything is OK, but flashtool says "Command did not succeed" for the first time and "Device is already rooted" for subsequent times at unlocking?
Please write some advice about the question, not about TA backup and your success. Thx!

Oh, are we demanding help now?
Bootloader unlocking is a straight forward process. I've had a couple of strange errors in Flashtool while trying to unlock the bootloader, but just close Flashtool and try again. Also be sure to be on the latest version of Flashtool.

No sir, not at all. I wrote please, no demanding. Well yes, I'm a bit picky because there were no answer and I usually find some on XDA. Besides I used custom roms on Samsung devices for years (SGS2, SGN, SGN2) and I was disapponted when I bought my XZU that there are very few roms and I couldn't use them (I managed with very hard work to go back to stock in 9 hours after unsuccesful flashing).
So there is some basic problem every time. Like trying to root but cannot re-unlock because of some mysterious errors with no solutions.
Enough of my problems, your answer is much appreciated, will try to re-unlock some time. Thx!

Oh, i get that. I came from Samsung myself, and this is my first Sony device ever, so I've had some issues myself. I've gotten the same error message(s) as you before, and i think i restarted Flashtool and rebooted my Ultra and it was back to normal again - i think, but it "fixed itself" after trying a couple of times, so don't give up. It's also important to always be on the latest version of Flashtool.
It would also help us if you could tell us what you're trying to achieve, so you don't end up spending 9 hours on something that takes 5 minutes

From what I can make out you have never managed root your phone or back up the TA. If the latter is true then there is very little point in relocking the bootloader.
Yes the process is a little harder than Samsung, but the last device I rooted was a ZTE, and that was even harder to root and flash from what I can remember (yes this is my first Sony device as well, and I will buy another...)
Take you time and read the stickies that we have written and all should go well. Don't be afraid to ask (intelligent) questions if you get stuck, and read some more

now I like to re-unlock. but I get same errors (i.e. 'command did not suceed' or 'device is already rooted')

I have not had this error so have not tested this, but what happens if you flash a full FTF and wipe everything then try to unlock the BL?
And remember that you can take a backup of the unlocked BL (re member to name it as such) and just flash that to unlock again. Doing it this way you don't get the format that happens when using the unlock code.
I followed this post to downgrade, root, i use Backup TA v9.10 to backup DRM Keys, use Flashtool 0.9.14.0 to unlock Bootloader, then to flash other Rom's (stock and customs), came back to Stock Rom .681, relock the Bootloader with Flastool 0.9.15.0 flashed the last .757 and unlock the Bootloader again with no kind of problems using Flashtool 0.9.15.0....

I just flashed C6802 .757 FW using flashtool, and i get same issue
is there a tutorial about backup of the unlocked BL? assuming you meant I have to have own device backup..

You just back it up as you would for a locked BL. Just remember to make sure you name them well so you know which is the locked one and the unlocked one.
NEVER use a TA backup from another phone, you WILL HARD BRICK IT

Since you have unlocked bootloader flash boot image of desired custom rom using fastboot and then flash rom and gapps via recovery.

You don't need to run an exploit to gain root.
Once you have an unlocked bootloader all you have to do is flash a kernel with recovery, boot into recovery and then flash SuperSU - more or less

Ya you dont need to root before installing Roms like CM,PA,etc. as they are already prerooted.
For safer side you can always flash Super Su.zip in recovery after flashing custom rom like CM,PA.

Thank you. Does my phone already come with its own recovery? I know im coming off as a noob, but this is my first time trying to do his for anything besides a samsung Note.

I don't want to open another threat but is there any way to root 290 (4.3) on my C6833? Do I need to go down first? My bootloader is still locked and I would like to backup TA partition firs just in case. So first I need to do is get SU in somehow to be able to backup TA. After that I will be rrady for bootloader I guess.
So is there any way to rot 290? I did try some methods but non of them works. I really need that GPE on me ZU. :fingers-crossed:

None if that is working on 290. I can not unlock bootloader before I make backup of TA. So that I did not try. I simply can not find any root that works on 290. I love my Zu but I already missing my N5.

Root with restore by byn4ry v33 did not work on my c6833 (option 3). The proces just stopped after restore screen on Zu. If I downgrade my Zu then I will also have older baseband. If i downgrade, root and go back to 290 will i loose root? Is there any way to keep it? All I am trying to do is keep latest baseband with GPE rom.

That's my ultimate fear in all of this with a locked BL - I have had way too many black cats in my life in the past year... I just can't bring myself to take the plunge after all the bricks.

It was more as a warning to others, there has been a spat of people in the last two weeks that can't/won't read stickies and have unlocked the BL with no backup - so the more places people see the instructions the better

There's no 'one-click' rooting procedure.
There are, however, very detailed, in-depth, easy-to-follow instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904
It takes the slightest bit of effort to find all the information you're looking for - at least try.

I have a big problem with understanding all of this tutorials. I read everything about rooting and unlocking the Bootloader.
I understood that I need to backup my TA Partition for Unlocking my Bootloader so I can continue to use Sony technology.
Requirements ? Root. Okay that was my first problem. So i looked up how to root my phone and what do i need ? A phone with a unlocked bootloader. great! Sure you can say "look at this topic and carefully read" but I really did that and I am really helpless. Thanks for any help!

When your bootloader is unlocked, you can never use X-Reality and any other item which requires the DRM in the Trim Area partition,
Restoring the TA partition without relocking the bootloader will not result in the return of X-Reality and such even if you are using a Sony ROM. This situation appears to have changed since the release of 4.4.
Backing up the TA partition is only good for relocking the bootloader on a Stock ROM (any custom AOSP, CM, AOSPA etc will fail to boot on a locked bootloader), for personal choice or returning the phone under warranty.
You can unlock the bootloader when not rooted, in fact you don't do it with the phone running normally anyway so root or not rooted, it does not matter in that sense.
You don't need to unlock the bootloader to root, if you are willing to re-set up your phone again. What you need to do is downgrade to 4.2, which is rootable, root, install recovery and flash the 681 pre-rooted zip, and use flashtool to flash the associated ftf file to get rooted on 681.
Follow the instructions in Lord Manhattan's thread that you linked to,in order to downgrade and install a recovery, then visit the following link to get the zip & ftf to re-up to 4.4 (681). You most likely will lose cellular connectivity whilst you are downgraded (there is a way around this, but as you are only going down to 4.2 to get a recovery, maintaining your IMEI for that short period of time is just a waste of effort), but it will return when you are back on 681 (4.4).

- Either update to 681 again and take it from there or flash a kernel with recovery/TWRP and flash a pre-rooted 681. It's easy to root 681, so whatever floats your boat.
Don't mean to hijack this topic but I don't want to open another thread,
if I back up the TA partition, unlock bootloader, root the phone, then relock bootloader, then restore TA partition to bring back the xreality,
I am not going to install custom recovery and Roms.

Technically it'll work, but i have never done it before. Everything should go smoothly until you're going to re-lock the bootloader. You can't re-lock it on a custom kernel, and you'll be on a custom kernel once you flash Jackie's kernel with recovery, so you'll have to flash a complete stock kernel, then restore the TA partition with the TA Backup Tool, which will also automatically re-lock the bootloader. You should in theory end up with a complete stock ROM with root. That's on paper.
Worst case scenario? If you re-lock the bootloader while you're on a custom kernel, it'll explode it won't power on at all, and all you'll get is a blinking red LED and death. To fix this, just unlock the bootloader in Flashtool again and you're back to start again. It's not dangerous, but it's nerve wrecking to see it there, just blinking without any sign of life. I almost crapped my pants the first time i experienced it, and had no clue what was happening or what to do.

Thanks for the reply, I think I will ditch rooting from this phone, too much troubles, I don't understand why Sony put the DRM key in a trim partition, perhaps they don't want us to root the phone after all.
I did it guys. It worked!
My steps:
- Downgraded to 4.2.2 with Flashtool (.532)
- Rooted with Bin4ry's tool
- Installed CWM and TWRP Dual Recovery for Xperia Z locked Bootloader by krabappe12548
- Flashed to 4.4.2[rooted] (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2687848)
Now I have the newest version with Root Access. Everything works great

Yep, that will work well on a locked BL
If you are only downgrading to flash the current rooted firmware, you don't even need to root 532, as [nut]'s dual recovery can be installed by the same method that bin4ry's root is delivered, just install the recovery, flash the zip, flash the ftf and away you go
I just bought the Z2 phone which is UNBRANDED and check that the BOOTLOADER can be UNLOCKED under the configuration menu. The phone is rooted which I verified through a program. Using Android 4.4.2, Build 17.1.2.A..0.314
Tried the flashtools to unlock it
Flashtools - gives me the error that the bootloader cannot be unlocked. Tells me to unplug the phone and turn it on.
Any help?
Try 2-3 times.
But first root with easyroot then backup the TA partition then while in root, unlock. Everything will work.

1. install all drivers
2. run flashtool as admin
3. make sure your imei code was right
4. make sure your unlock code was right
5. try again a few times
misc. check if your bootloader is unlockable in your service menu, does it say rooting is alowed (i dont remember what menu this was in):*#*#SERVICE#*#* in your dialier

Yes rooting is allowed
Im using flashtool only as admin not the official method and tried alot with no luck
Iv’e tried to unlock via flashtool as above but it tells me it cannot be officially unlocked, before doing this I checked on the phone and it says bootloader unlockable yes

You have to root first to backup TA partition (or don't haha but please do it is essentially your warranty)
Then go to the Sony Dev page to get your unlock code. You need your imei. Then, use that in fastboot(not flashtool oops). The instructions are in the Sony page. This WILL wipe your phone so you might wanna tibu stuff into your sdcard

I have backuped TA
If i use the official way from sony will it be a problem if I want to relock it again for warranty purposes or if occured faults for the device?
Do Sony know that i have unlocked the bbotloader then it will void warrant even if I lock it again?

No idea but I doubt it. The unlock process cannot send a notification to Sony, but I am not sure what their policy is on you obtaining the unlock code. Should be fine though

I would suspect that if Sony wanted to be arses about it that they will take the obtaining an unlock code as proof it was unlocked, do you tick a box to say you accept you are voiding your warranty when you request the code? But it doesn't make a difference what method you use as both require the unlock code from Sony.
