Q: rooting Huawei G535-L11 (kestrel from EE) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, is there a way of rooting this phone, i've tried all rooting methods (one click , Vroot , framaroot, SRS, etc....) no luck, any suggestions from our XDA devs here ??

I am super disapointed with the lack of interest form the modding community. Kestrel beats MotoG in multiple areas and is a cracking piece of HW. My daily driver now (left my Note 3 as a backup device)
WIth Android 4.2 and Snapdragon 400 onboard, device is plenty fast, I would just like to get CM11 on it for the sake of a pure experience.
I guess rooting is becoming less and less of interest and OEMs doing a better job at developing their SW...

No, this is a tough phone to root, every root method failed, and VRoot claim that they root any phone, wrong not the Kestrel, even though bootloader unlocked, Bizzar

Thanks mate, I appreciate Huawei may have played the bad guys and made it tougher to root. I am having a hard time understanding why a pure consumer product like this one is locked so tightly by the OEM... It's not like they are trying to attack the entreprise market, next thing you know they will add a Knox like mechanism

i'm sure one of our devs here will come up with the root just to prove them wrong, i understand its a new phone branded as EE kestrel ,just about 1 month since its launch, i mean Huawei were quite good , supply the code to unlock the bootloader. i wish there was an old fashion way to root it, all these super one click methods don't hack it.
All we need is: Root file + recovery file :highfive:

this will root any devices, as long if your bootloader is unlocked, i didn't encounter any problems with mine , i've unlocked the bootloader first and then install the tr (towelroot) apk on the phone, one click 20 seconds later ,its rooted, it worked on all sumsung galaxys, this is the new one click root that'll root any device that failed with all the others rooting methods.
hope this helps.

How did you get your bootloader unlocked? As in..who did you contact?

What is the "product model" for http://en.club.vmall.com/emotiondownload.php?mod=unlock&action=pre ?

Just used the link above, and added an email with the phone details, they sent me the unlock codes within 30mn. Installed huawei suite on PC to get drivers. They have a guide on how to, in their site. That's it.
Sent from my Kestrel using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

EE Kestrel is G535-L11 which is not listed in the link. I also emailed Huawei and have waited for three weeks and have not had any responses.

what custom roms, there aren't any custom roms for the kestrel , not yet.
1- you'll need a custom recovery ( they haven't made one yet )
if you've found one that works with the kestrel , post the link
don't go flashing roms that aren't for your phone, you'll end up with a brick

Unlock bootloader : Check but the fastboot format all data
Root : Check
Go for recovery ....

Wow..Huawei sent the code within 5 minutes of emailing them! Bootloader now unlocked!! Thank you so much.
I am gonna try out G6 ROM and see what happens to the phone.

Have you got a working custom recovery, to make a backup first. If you have one, send it to me. Cos I need one.

How to root HTC One Max?

I found this from Google.
All credits to Himanshu Rawat, http://www.handheldwar.com/htc/root-htc-one-max-without-loosing-stock-rom/
Rooting
1. Download One Click Root to your computer or laptop, after download extract it.
2. Open One Click Root Button.
3. Click on Root Now Button.
4. After Few minutes your HTC One Max would restart.
5. After the Restart your HTC One Max will be rooted.
I HAVEN'T TRIED THIS MYSELF! Have anybody else tried and confirm it to work?
I don't think it works.... refer to the same blog http://www.handheldwar.com/htc/root-htc-desire-601-without-loosing-stock-rom/

Yeah, but i'm afraid to try it if someone say that it doesnt work I dont want brick my new One Max right away..
I would try it however mine is soffed and rooted already... I won't worry about trying it out.. There are not much tool which can brick our phones without s off or atleast bootloader unlock.

It´s not working already tryed. I have the same Problem wan´t to gain s-off without unlocking bootloader, but there for i need a rooted stock rom. But i find no way to root my stock rom without unlocking the bootloader. If someone find a why please tell me.
I am afraid there won't be any methods to root it without boot loader unlock. Google is making android secure enough that root does not happen until bl unlock, which is good for us. If I am not wrong Samsung phone still get a method without bootloader unlock, I suppose that's because if Samsung or the extreme number of ppl could be working on it.

is your phone Verizon or sprint? The international variant is quite straight forward to root.
1. Unlock Bootloader via HTC Dev
2. Flash custom recovery from the recovery thread CMW/TWRP.
3. Download SuperSu.zip from http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
4. Flash the zip in recovery.
If you use runrunner for the international version, you have to be rooted/unlocked first.

As I was running through the numerous One Max reviews researching whether I would take the plunge or go for the Note 3, I ran across the following article:
http://www.andromods.com/root-unloc...-rooted-unlock-bootloader-soff-rumrunner.html
It's dated for 9 December, but I can't totally verify that it works however as I was "lucky" to find one on eBay already S-Off, Rooted, and Bootloader Unlocked. Figured the seller's asking price of $675 was essentially the same as going to VZW and dropping $599 + tax. (Holding on to my unlimited data plan is getting increasingly more expensive with each phone upgrade.
Hello
Please i need Your help
If i will use One click root to my HTC Max 809d it will root it without stops the fingerprint ?
I need to know this before i make it if you please .
Thanks.

In order to install a custom ROM, you must first unlock your bootloader. There is a version of CM11 in development for the HAM2 that everyone is waiting for with baited breath. If you unlock your bootloader now, you will be able to install this custom CM11 ROM once it is released.

Thanks for clarification. Is the available custom ROM still on 4.3 or KItkat or Lollypop?
Also does the device have to be boot unlocked if I have a consumer cellular version and want to flash the factory unlocked flash on it?

CM11 is based on Kit Kat 4.4. There should be a CM12 ROM later on, which is based on Lollipop 5.0. You must have root access and an unlocked bootloader to install any custom ROM, regardless of where you purchased the phone.
I'm not sure who was the first to post the information about emailing Huawei and getting an unlock code. Who ever it was, thank you. It was an extremely easy process. I emailed them my IMEI and S/N, and i got an email back with my unlock code the next day.
This forum is great
Also thank you to whomever is working on the CM 11 and CM 12 roms.
Can't wait to fool around with new roms, even though the stock rom is actually incredibly stable, and smooth, and i pretty much have no complaints about it.

Some tips from other users have been to send it around the evening EST (if you're in America at least) and just keep doing it until they reply.
It sucks that you have to email them but at least they do give out the codes.

Ive been trying to get a response from them. Its been 2 weeks now i think and havent heard from them. Ive sent like 10 emails already. Im closing to giving up and sell this phone. Ill give them about 2 more weeks.
You are lucky it only took you 3 emails before u get a reply.
First right now is Chinese holiday season, so their response maybe slow.
2nd, check the other thread, 'progress of rooting', right now there is a new method to use fake prod id to retrieve code from their website directly.

I have sent Huawei several requests for onlock bootliader but no luck this far. I have question tho. Us first step unlock bootliader. Then, us second step to down load Clockwork to achieve root so can then obtain newer rom when available ? Please clarify what steps one does to complete the cyke if rooting. Thank you

To root Huawei Mediapad T1 8.0 PRO LTE T1-821L
Build No: T1-821LV100R001C178B007 (I guess it should work on older builds too)
Use KingRoot:

or

Worked fine for me, purify app from the developer also installs automatically unfortunately.
Again your warranty may be void after rooting.

Bootloader unlocking can be officially done through registering on huawei's Chinese website (don't worry just choose english lang) and following "refomatting lock" guide: https://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin.php?id=unlock&mod=detail
On custom recovery and ROM: no developer is working on that, as far as I know. I've started to research it but I have very limited experience on building custom recovery from source and I haven't found one developed to a similar device to port it.

A unlocked the bootloader but really was a waste of time if we hav no custom recovery and rom wish a never bought this tablet
Why? What to take into account when buying a tablet?
And is it anything one could mod with this model once one has it already at hand?
Rooted mine as well with KingRoot.
You can freeze Purify now since you are rooted.
You can install Xposed Framework as well, Any version before 2.6 is working fine.
KingRoot does its job well indeed! However there is a problem with applying
Super-Sume afterwards. It's strange, on other KK devices it went smoothly...

there is a thread on how to replace kingroot supersu or such. with each kingroot update they try to block the replacement
Ponder not exactly the case the latest KingRoot needs the latest Super-Sume.
After many trials only this pair works for me: KingRoot 4.8.1 with Super-Sume 9.1.3
Any other combination fails, it's strange, especially when with older KingRoot (4.8.1 as still it makes root) attempting the latest Super-Sume... (it fails)
However there's another problem, specifically for the MediaTab T1. After replacing with Super-Sume, indeed, SuperSU is working and kicking, but unfortunately JUST ONLY when you set the option GRANT as "Access -> Default policy" (in SuperSU). When you set PROMPT it fails as the system somehow prevents popping up messages (in this case: requests for user's approval to grant root for an application).
Has anybody any idea how to alleviate this?
People used to say there's some sort of ui overlay in this MediaTab. Probably it blocks third party apps' pop-ups... What to do, what to freeze?
Hey guys, I'm trying to purchase this item, but not able to find it anywhere even gethuawei.com. Is there a website tucked away somewhere that I can order this device? I've also tried amazon, ebay, overstock.com, and most of your common places and all say out of stock. Thanks in advance for an answer.

Thanks for this thread and the links......I rooted my Huawei MediaPad T1 8.0 LTE-821L last night using Kingroot only took 2 or 3 minutes very straight forward after a bit more forum reading I downloaded and installed Titanium backup....
T1-821L rooted with the latest Kingroot app. Very easy. Then i downloaded Super-Sume 6.0 APK File. Now i have SuperSU. No problems!
I would love to find a development tree for this phablet.
It is lacking:
1. Developers!!
2. Custom recovery (TWRP/CWM)
3. CPU Governor development
4. That sweet baby-jesus Custom Rom that hordes of nerds pray for! I would do it myself but i am linux disabled. Cyanogenmod nougat update would blow ppls minds but for now i would settle for stripped 4.4 android with cpu overclocking.
To Rom or not to Rom - Having my fingers crossed :fingers-crossed:
Breed no longer sell these. Anyone know someone else selling?

Has anyone tried this? The file is called 835crom....... 835 snapdragon I'm assuming. I downloaded it just in case, but won't install just yet. Though, if it were true, I'd unlock my bootloader in a heartbeat.
Permissions are kinda insane but unlocking bootloader is basically changing everything. I still don't trust enough to install.

You can try it. I have done it. Permissions might be alot as it sends the info it needs to the chinese server for unlocking. Anyway CROM service is used inthe Chinese market due to regulations. Can be downloaded off Samsung Galaxy Apps if you are wary.
Great now we are unlocking access via a Chinese server. 'Cause that seems safe. Not saying anything against China but, a majority of hacks are produced there.

Who's brave enough? I also don't see the point of most of these permission requirments....Even if it needs to access servers. Why does it need to access my calendar?

Lol. That's how it's done there. If you are against it, no one's forcing you to do it. If you actually did some research about it, xda has posts about CROM. Besides, its distributed itself by Samsung inthe Galaxy Apps.
I would not trust this and good luck to whoever does.

Sure. If you don't trust Samsung then you shouldn't be using the phone. Please kindly leave and do not flood the thread with non constructive comments. Thanks!
I'm not finding it in galaxy apps. I might install eventally if someone volunteers to test as well. To the OP, if this works, thanks for pointing it out.
Not saying I don't believe you or anything. I hope this isn't offensive, I apologize if so. You can understand why most people would be weary.
Just curious based on your screenshot, it just says successful and doesn't go through the process of wiping your internal data? Which usually is kinda part of the process when unlocking the BL...

Entirely up to u to try. If u are afraid of risks, then so be it. There surely will be people who try. And no, it does not wipe. You can go and visit S8 thread where there is CROM service threads about it. Downloading Apps may requires a Chinese Samsung account.

Doesn't necessarily mean that it only works on Chinese models...

I 100% guarantee its chinese models only. They may be snapdragon but their bootloader is setup differently. USA models CANNOT UNLOCK via their method.
It's for model 950chn
Tried it and all it does is crash.
Its super worthless for USA Models

Complaints about sending data to China; NO ONE complains about the data they give to Google.

Question Xperia 5 IV Model Decision - XQ-CQ54 vs XQ-CQ72

As someone living in the USA and using T-Mobile as a provider, is there a significant difference between the XQ-CQ54 and XQ-CQ72 models? If so, which one should I go with?
I will not be using the XQ-CQ62 (US version) because the bootloader cannot be unlocked and I would like to use a custom ROM.
You can unlock the bootloader on 62 but it cost about 20 bucks..its a recent hack ... Xda isnt allowing guides with money involved so that's why theres none posted here.
Other then that i think 54 version aka european is way better then chinese 72. Just for esim alone

Would you be able to provide a link to the service or at least a name for the website? I'd like to try that one but I'd also like to not download a virus.
I havent tried it but there are reports of it being a legit thing. I ll send you a pm so you can look into that thread.

would love to hear about your experience with the tool
I have the US version and found out the hard way that its bootloader can't be unlocked. I've always had a rooted phone, BUT I would say this phone has everything that I want and need. And Android 13 now has features that I used root phones to get. On the flip side, I have seen people that have the 1 iv US version and they've used the mentioned tool, and were able to change the no to a yes. As long as Sony keeps pumping out updates, I'm good for now on stock, but I may revisit the tool if updates stop.

Don't post nonsense. Bootloader unlock is possible.

All that I was saying is that I may be open to trying the "workaround" to enable bootloader unlock on the US version later on. Please explain to me how that is nonsense. Or if you know of a way to change the no to a yes on these locked down versions, I'm all ears.

That's a pretty direct statement which is made up of nonsense.
No to yes and unlocking the bootloader is possible. See the thread about the so-54c or check my posts.

That's all you needed to say. I was only verifying that I ran into the same situation. I'll check out your posts, and read up. I haven't had an Xperia in almost 10 years, so I'm getting caught up.
