Hey everyone,
So I have successfully HTC Unlocked my Rezound bootloader, installed Amon Ra, and then installed and booted the CM9 unofficial. Problem was that CM9 wasn't quite as cooperative as I'd hoped - it is unofficial, after all, and so I decided to abandon that in favor of Nils' Business ROM. Here's where I ran into issues.
I have tried everything in every order I can find online and think of, including Nils' writeup. So, for the life of me, I cannot get the leaked ICS RUU to boot (4.03.605.2 as listed in his instructions on XDA). Install runs fine every time I do it from the relocked (I checked) stock HBOOT, all steps included. Every time it reboots (and I've tried forcing it back into hboot to do the install a second time) it just goes to the white HTC screen and starts boot looping. Tried it a million ways, no go. Also worth noting - the stock recovery doesn't install properly, either. Some'fin is hinky, here.
So I've tried just "assuming" it went fine anyhow and then proceeding with the install for Nils' ROM and same deal, no go, although with one difference. With Nils' ROM, it does display the boot splash screen "Nils Business ROM" or what have you about 1 out of every 4 "boots" in the loop cycle, and then reboots again.
I think I am going to perform S-OFF tomorrow if I have the time, and then try it again using the S-OFF instructions, but I would sincerely appreciate any help from you all. Honestly, I'm at near wit's end with this device, and I don't want to be, I enjoy this chase too much, but I *really* want the reward at the end of it, lol.
Any help is deeply appreciated.
- Katie
Re: [Q]
I'm guessing because of the corrupted recovery, you have a bad download of the RUU. Try re downloading and check the md5 hash for a match. The ruu should reboot itself after the first pass and end up in bootloader again for the second pass.... If not then after the first pass just hold down power + vol down to get back to bootloader.
Hope this helps

Make sure that you have a booting ROM before you s-off. You will cause yourself all kinds of heartache if you don't.
Using an sd card reader on a pc, check md5 of your RUU zip file. If it checks out good, put the sd back in your rez and do an hboot power on and accept the update again. Report back with your findings. Also you will need to re-unlock your hboot after and install your recovery again.

Hey, thanks. Yeah, the RUU does check out just fine against an MD5SUM.
nm.... just read your original post again and you say you did relock the phone. I was hoping it was something simple like that that was overlooked.
Carry on...

Right now, I cannot S-OFF because it requires a working stock image, and I'll be lucky to get anything more than CM9 unofficial working here.
You're too fast, now my bad post lives on...
So, when theh RUU failed, you unlocked again, flashed a custom recovery and tried to flash Nils' ROM?
Do you have a nandroid you can try to restore? Even if its the cm9 ROM at least to see if you can get it back to a working phone?

Well that's the trick. CM9 didn't work well enough to even be worth backing up. I'm trying to reinstall it again now just to see if I get there - and it looks like I will. Once I'm back up with that, I'm not sure where to go from there. The phone barely worked under CM9. Really hoping to get Nils' ROM on there, since it gives all the nice features of a stock device without the bloatware. Even if I never get S-OFF, I'll be perfectly happy with just Nils' software.
How about this... did you wipe everything before running the RUU? There's CleanWipe in the Development forum you can flash it from recovery and it will wipe everything 5 times!
This shouldn't make any difference, but there's also a different RUU, the OTA that's not global. You might try that one instead. I'm convinced that sometimes things are just voodoo even when they should be completely logical. That's definitely the case at work on the Avid systems I use.

I did try wiping everything first. No luck. I will try the CleanWipe tomorrow, because right now, whatever my issues are, I'm being prevented from solving them since I can't S-OFF and I can't even seem to get a working ROM to make the phone worth having! Ugh.
And you can try installing it under fastboot oem ruu instead of the ph.zip file

Oh yeah! Try that. Someone else was having trouble and did it that way and it worked. Here's instructions, just make sure you use PH98IMG and not whatever is used in the instructions since it was written up for a different phone.

Also, once you get your phone back to stock make a nandroid as soon as you flash the recovery again so you'll have that to go back to if you have any more issues.

Thanks for the clicky, Feralicious. Same results, unfortunately. I'm going to try doing the RUU flash of Nils' ROM instead. Do you guys know where I can get the ICS firmware by itself? I cannot be sure that it's actually flashed right, unfortunately.
Your HBOOT is 2.27 and it should say relocked????
It should since you flashed the 4.03.605.2 RUU. The only RUU you will be able to flash since your S-ON is the one found here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390034591667978440
The other RUU will fail because you can't downgrade. So the link above(The Global RUU) will that fail or completely install 100%??
If it does install 100% and boot loops still. Take out the sdcard. Boot into the HBOOT and perform a factory reset inside of HBOOT/Fastboot(NOT IN RECOVERY)
Report your status
EDIT
The link listed above for the RUU. Other way of installing it which is a great way to look at the status of everything.
Boot into Fastboot
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot oem lock
fastboot flash zip rezound_AndroidPolice_4.03.605.2_PH98IMG.zip

I'll do that stuff and let you know. Thank you!
Yes, I am on 2.27 HBOOT.
Point of interest, though possibly unsurprising. When I send the lock command, it locks and reboots, but says "Failed" in my command window screen. Sure this is probably normal since the phone might just reboot before responding to the computer, but possibly an issue.
I believe that is the image I tried before, but I'll do it again both ways to be certain and report back soon! :good:

I really wouldn't see why you would need a Sense rom to get s-off. I would imagine it would just need su and busybox installed. But nandroid then try a sense rom again. Make sure you flash the boot.img through fastboot
I had already had my phone's bootloader unlocked and rooted and had a GPe ROM installed and worked perfectly. THEN I saw that you could literally make it a Google Play edition phone complete with OTA and worked on trying to achieve that. Getting my phone S-Off wasn't working because I believe of my HBOOT version (1.55) so I was told to download this stock ROM that would downgrade me to reach a version that I could then run revone to achieve S-OFF.
POST: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45487258&postcount=55
I ran a backup through TWRP first and then flahsed this ROM, which has kept my HTC One at the HTC One splash screen. I connected it to my computer/ADB and got it into the bootloader to go into custome recovery BUT the recovery takes me to a black screen with a phone and red triangle, so it's like my recovery isn't there anymore. Fine.
I download the latest TWRP for my phone(triple checked) and ran the fastboot flash recovery command through ADB but it says
"(bootloader) signature checking...FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)"
is there some sort of way to disable the signature check using ADB or am I actually going about this the wrong way?
I'll admit, I don't do this stuff oftem, so ask as many questions as needed as I probably left out details you may need
I may be wrong but you may have to re-lock the bootloader and run the ruu back to stock.
nandroid backup restore won't change the hboot so I don't think you'll have any luck there.
I'm running ARHD 40 just till we can find a way to run s-off on our AT&T devices.

Sure thing man. It's stuck at that screen because when your phone is unlocked, it allows custom recovery but when it's locked, it won't boot unless it finds the stock recovery. I am not 100% sure but I've had that issue as well. I had to run the RUU to get back to stock since you can't lock the bootloader with custom recovery and expect it to boot. It may vary from device to device but I've always had to RUU back to stock or fastboot flash stock recovery to get past that screen before you lock the bootloader. You can try again, there is stock recovery posted by someone in forums. Download that, try to go in fastboot mode and try fastboot flash recovery recovery_name.img. I think once you've locked the bootloader it may not work but worth a shot.

Hello All,
Here is my situation - hopefully there is someone out there that can give me a little help.
I unlocked the boot loader using HTC method, installed TWRP, and then SuperSU. I did a backup with the TWRP, everything was working ok - except I kept getting an error message about the binaries being out of date on the SuperSu. Every time I tried to update them the the update would fail. So.... I went to the play store and installed an updated SuperSu, still no luck same issue.
About that time in the middle of a reboot - the phone got to the white HTC screen and just froze. Finally held the power button down till it started to reboot - got it into recovery and restored the backup. Same issue - goes to white screen and stops - I have left it for over a half hour -nothing...???
I have tried multiple ways of restoring the backup as far as wiping the cach, ect - still nothing.
Help!
Here is a quick update on this
I can still get into recovery - I can mount the sd card and transfer to it and I can still use ADB. so... I found a stock rom flash that was 3.15.651.6 copied it to the sd card then flashed it. Now the phone continually tries to boot reboot, gets to the white screen before going into fast boot - freezes then reboots itself.
Is it a brick? Any suggestions?
What is your hboot version? Are you s-off? What version of twrp are you on, and more importantly, where did you get the twrp from?
Thanks for responding!
HBOOT - 2.09.0000
S-On
TWRP - 2.4.1.0
Radio 1.13.11.0030
OpenDSP-v31.1.0.45.0015 EMMC-Boot
I got the TWRP from a Windriod setup I had used previously to set up old 4g lte about a year ago.
At this point I would be happy to just put it all back stock and then start over. I have never used a RUU but I have read you can install them from fastboot after running a few commands to make it recognize the phone. Has anyone ever done that?
Also - how would I know I was getting the correct RUU for this phone and where would I get it from?
When you're s-on, you have to flash the kernel separately, via adb fastboot.
I think that's what's keeping your phone from booting. Save a copy of the zip to your pc. Unzip the file, then flash the boot.img to your phone while it's in fastboot.
It should boot just fine now. But for the love of God, get s-off afterwards. You might also want to ruu to the new partition format, but that's a matter of preference.
Well , unfortunately that didn't do it.
I have tried a couple of times and also reloaded the zip and re-flashed. I think the problem is that if you watch TWRP as it is installing the zip - it gets to "installing kernel" and then crashes and reboots. I didn't notice it the first time, I thought it was finishing and rebooting but is actually crashing.
Ideas??
Wonder if I could make my own zip file without the kernel folder and flash that?
Or maybe its time to RUU through flashboot and start over?

2) Click the top link in my sig. Scroll down to the bottom of the first post and look for the link to the Android 4.3 RUU. For installation instructions refer to the RUU section in the same post.
Perfect! Thank you vey much - phone is up and flying again!
I am now unlocked with twrp 2.4.1.0 and SuperSu 2.16
I also updated the software after the RUU to 3.17.651.9.7 - what method of S-off would you recommend and where can I find it?
Sounds like you used the wrong RUU, but at any rate, so long as your phone is up and running, that's all that matters. Hit the top link in my sig again and find the S-off method that corresponds to your current firmware version (Rumrunner or Firewater should work). Links to both exploits are provided in the thread.

What does your heart really want? Do you want to run custom ROMs and have root or not? It mostly sounds like you may want to return to stock due to lack of understanding and knowledge. That's okay if you want to do that. But kinda against the spirit of XDA!
Relock the bootloader and RUU will return the phone to stock and unrooted.
But it just sounds like you have mismatched firmware (results in long boot times with no boot animation, which some folks mistake for it not being booted).
Also, the newest TWRP require updated hboot, so that is probably the problem there.
If you want the phone rooted, and running a custom ROM: either run a ROM that corresponds with your firmware, or s-off and update your firmware.
What hboot and radio numbers? S-on or S-off?

Skydragon is probably not "stuck" but rather taking an extremely long time to boot (10+ minutes) with no boot animation, which often leads folks to believe its stuck altogether. If you leave it alone, it will probably boot eventually, but you may also find that WiFi is broken. Both are symptoms of the wrong firmware for the ROM you flashed.
Your hboot number also indicates that you don't have the right firmware installed, as firmware includes hboot as well as radio, WiFi, Bluetooth, and other modules.
On the AT&T variant, you will not have any "official" way to update the firmware to anything more up-to-date than 2.x firmware (hboot 3.17). You need 4.x firmware (hboot 3.19) to run the ROM you mentioned. Therefore you need s-off by sunshine (if not s-off already).
You can check s-on or s-off by booting into bootloader, and you will see it says one of the other near the top of the screen.
Alternately, if you don't s-off, you can flash a ROM that corresponds to your firmware. Try the following ROM, but putting the ROM zip on a removable SD card using a card reader connected to your computer (if you have those available). Then boot into recovery, navigate to the file and flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705640
Aside from that, you should really get your USB connectivity issue sorted out. You can't do much without it. Verify no response when you type fastboot devices when the phone is in fastboot mode. If it doesn't respond (should return device ID) then try a different USB cable, and different USB port. If on Windows, try going to Device Manager, finding the phone, and pick the option to manually select the drivers, than pick the USB MTP drivers (not the HTC ones). This will often fix adb/fastboot connectivity issues.
Hey all,
I have this HTC EVO 3D that just, refuses to co-operate with me.
Story goes -
Got it on ICS and everything was working fine on it. I looked for updates available and it found a 28MB update that I installed and once the phone rebooted with the update, the camera fails to start and the touch screen just starts going crazy and opening everything, whereas before it fine.
So, I attempted to try and get it back to Gingerbread.
And googled and googled and googled.
Reason why I have opened a new thread is cause it's sort of everything going weird with it.
Of course, trying RUU files and trying to flash RUU in zip failed so on so forth.
I had unlocked the Bootloader and S-ON is on at this point. Also had CWM recovery installed and was able to boot into that.
With this in place, I read up on the wire trick and thought, yeah it seems a bit hard, I'll take it to a phone repair shop, where they had the phone for 2 weeks and told me that it was S-OFF and back to stock.
Since they had it and I got it back, it's now stuck in a boot loop and I can not get into any recovery etc (With the original SD Card in it). Can get to Bootloader and fastboot though.
Spent the last 3 hours with about 20 tabs in Chrome opened on how to exactly go from here and I am stuck.
Got a Linux Laptop here and tried to ControlBear and it comes up with ADB and Fastboot not found (Directory points to it being in tmp..no idea)
TL;DR
HTC Evo 3D (Australian Variant, was running ICS Telstra OEM)
Unlocked Bootloader
SHOOTER_U PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.53.0007
eMMC-boot
Radio - 11.25.3504.16 M
Boot Loops, No Recovery, Fastboot commands work on windows.
So just wondering, where do I go from here. I don't know if the device is completely bricked now or if it can be saved.
(I tried a number of zip files on the SD Card (PG86IMG.zip) and nothing due to having S-ON.
Hoping someone can provide a procedure or point me in the right direction.
As reference, I used this thread mostly before it was taken to the Repair Shop and got stuffed.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks so much.

Hello my friend, the reason you can't load the pg86img is because you have unlocked bootloader. The fastboot commands could help us a lot, did you follow the controlbear instructions in the correct order? I think there is a way through windows with exe files I don't remember well because I did S-OFF 3years+ before. If you want we can try together some time. If you want for start we can flash 4ext recovery and a custom rom so your phone can boot.

Hi there, I didn't know with having the bootloader unlocked that it would cause any issues, but there you go!
Yeah, if there's a guide to flashing the 4EXT Recovery and a custom rom that would be great!
I have a fair idea of how to do it, but don't want to try anything without having someone of greater knowledge point me in the right direction
Thanks!
Just an update, I did come across a thread to flash 4EXT Recovery onto my Evo 3D.
Put Recovery.img into my platform-tools folder, used the fastboot command, it said sending and OK.
Selected recovery and still boot loops. No idea where to go from here now

Sorry for being late, I had some problems with my internet connection. Can you boot into recovery? Power button + Vol- and choose recovery, if you can boot tell me first which version you have and second what type of rom you want to have.

Hey there,
That's OK, I don't mind the wait, it's all good!
I can boot into Fastboot, but when I choose recovery/factory reset etc, it shows the HTC Logo and then goes into a bootloop.
As for the ROM, I want to get the original GB ROM for it because when I updated it to the latest ICS that's when the camera and touch started to get weird, whereas beforehand it was fine.
So thinking, if I go back down to GB Stock, that it should be all fine again, but I am not too sure on that one.
Thanks!

Well, we have to downgrade the hboot version first. Did you do the wire trick procedure right? You can download a pg86img and flash it first to fix the bootloops. First lock the bootloader. When you finish this report here. I have to sleep it's late here and I work early. I'll send you tomorrow. See you.

Ok, the technician I took the phone to supposedly did the wire trick for S-OFF, but, it's still S-ON.
I have downloaded a lot of stock PG86IMG files before posting on here and none work, they scan when in bootloader and then nothing after that.
But that would be because I haven't locked the bootloader. So in saying this, I lock the bootloader following steps on many forum posts on here, then flash a .zip file that's correct and then it should all work?
I'll wait for your response, thanks!

I do not think that the wire trick procedure was correct because you are still s on. Lock the bootloader and try to load the zip.

Hey, so I tried a P86IMG.zip from this thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274635
I couldn't find another one and with that I get an error "Main Version Fail" or "Main Version Check Fail".
I then tried RUU and RUU in zip format.
RUU comes back with wrong bootloader error. (I couldn't find an RUU that matched my radio version so I went with the nearest one)
RUU Zip comes back through fastboot with "remote 43 main version check fail"
Also I tried to do the Wire Trick and got stuck at the "ADB and Fastboot not found" even though the files are there and the phone is connected.
So still a little bit...stuck :\
Also relocked bootloader it just says relocked now.
If you need any other additional info I can send screenshots of what it's at.
Thanks!

Did you try flashing the zip after the locking? You are doing the wire trick procedure on live linux cd?

If you want we can do the procedure together some time. Keep in mind that you have to unlock again. We can search for the windows version too.

Oh that would be extremely helpful, I can use Linux, but prefer my Windows PC as it has all the files and it's just easier.
Thanks so much!

So update -
DK sent me the windows version of ControlBear via PM - thank you.
Have an unlocked bootloader.
I tried ControlBear, and because I can not boot into the OS, I start it at Fastboot USB, it reboots, then says "Connecting to Device", then "Testing ADB connection" then "Press Enter To Exit" and that's it, can't do anything else from there, and it gets stuck in the boot loop that it still has.
Tried again to google for methods for HBOOT 1.53, and am trying some of those methods, but it's not looking good at all.
I haven't even got to the stage where it asks me to do any sort of wire trick.
Also my battery in the EVO 3D has died so am using a battery out of a HTC MyTouch 4G with help from electrical tape :\
So now, any suggestions? I am trying to flash another RUU that's stock for my Radio (Well, it's close enough - RUUs are both 11.25.3504.06, mine is 11.25.3504.16)
EDIT: Tried all RUUs with relocked bootloader and comes back with bootloader error (ERROR 140). So, no idea.
Also it's scanning for PG86DIAG.img files on the SD Card - that's not normal is it.
Do you think we should give up on it, it's probably hard bricked and dead now
I think it's literally hard bricked and no way to bring it back from the dead.
As per my original post, all the details for the phone are there. And it sucks that I can't find a correct RUU for my phone (As it was Telstra AU - latest update of ICS)
AHH I don't know.

First of all you should be unlocked now with 1.53 hboot. Download from here the latest 4ext recovery (4EXT_Recovery_Touch_v1.0.0.6_RC3)
It's in my mega account don't worry about malicious software I downloaded it 5 minutes before doing this post. If you don't have unlocked your bootloader do it with the tokens HTC sent you in your email. Flash this recovery from fastboot (fastboot flash recovery "recoveryname".img). After that remove the battery and re-enter fastboot mode (Vol down+power button) and choose recovery. If you manage to boot into recovery from there tell me to send you a link for a rom to flash. I don't believe its a hard brick.

Hey there, thanks for the help again, unfortunately, still didn't work.
I unlocked the bootloader again. Then tried to flash what you said, it said "writing" then "successful". I pulled the battery and tried to boot into recovery and just loops

Try doing:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery "recovery".img
fastboot format system
fastboot format boot
And if it still doesn't let me send you a boot.img in some minutes to try flashing it.
EDIT: And something last, you can still do the controlbear trick while not in OS, its easy if you wanna try let me know.
