[Q] charger issue ? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so couple months ago i had this problem where my phone when plugged into the socket would come up as usb charging on my phone instead of ac and after a while stopped.. i solved that by cleaning out the charging port of my phone.
anyway now after those couple months couple days ago i realized that my phone when u plugged it in to the socket would come up as usb charging instead of ac charging again...and when i plugged it into my pc... the pc wouldnt recognize it at all... btw im using the original samsung charger.
when i use a next usb in the socket it comes up as ac charging and when i plug it into my pc it picks it up...
is it that my charger is due for a change? or could it just be some minor adjustments to fix the problem?

Try other charger.. if the problem is in your charger then change the charger or simply factory reset

did you root your phone? and which rom are you using?
for a rooted samsung stock rom or cyanogenmod rom i would recommend installing boeffla kernel and boeffla config v2 application. then use the application to read the exact value at what rate does your phone charge. it is shown in mA.
if the values is too low,you can play with few options the kernel provides. you can put higher charging rates for usb and ac charging. though you better not play with those. the ones you can play with is to avoid unstable input current. read boeffla's readmen before,it is very informative

maybe charging port problem
Try going to servce cntre and check your charging port and connector.

thx all
i just simple changed my usb and all is fixed thanks for all the replys

Awesome

S3 USB charging problem

Hi! I'm having issues with my S3 charging via USB using mains. I tried 3rd party cable & original cable, both doesn't seem to work. The screen says its charging but after 30 mins, when went to check, the percentage remains the same. It was only when i switch off the phone that i managed to charge it. Any solution to this?

have you tried other USB ports . or a usb port with more power??

hmm. tried 2 different 3rd party USB power plug.
My experience so far: with standard charger + cable, this thing charges really slowly! An impatient person might even get the impression it's not charging at all. In fact if I use my S3 while connected to the wall (charging!), the battery will actually discharge instead of charge. Bottom line: plug it in over night, and consider buying extra batteries.
What's wrong with original cable? I'm using my portable hdd microusb cable, works well plugged into Xbox for charging

Mine charge pretty quickly (standard charger + USB cable)
But it does charge slowly if i use USB cable to my PC or laptop
Charging from a PC USB port not designed for charging will be slow as you aren't really getting all the juice you need. Best thing is to charge from the mains. My charger's fuse went the day I got my phone. As luck would have it, my Xperia X10 charger works just fine. So I now use that instead.
I experience almost impossible charging via anyone usb on my PC. I get info from device manager that the running port to my S3 outputs only 96mA, which is quite insufficient for charging. This is the first one smartphone which cannot be charged via USB port. I've had Galaxy Note, Galaxy SII, HTC Desire HD, HD2, etc... everyone is charging quite well from the usb ports... It's annoying...
S3 USB Charging Problem
I still haven't seen an answer here about the issue with S3 Charging via USB.
Mine is charging VERY slowly and it's infuriating. My HTC Desire S charges Via USB fine.
How can I find an official answer/fix from Samsung?
Charging problem should be related to kernel problem. I also encounter this issue before, but after i flashed Persues kernel then the problem fixed.

Sounds plausible. So how do I do that?

Cannot charge with Wall Charger, only USB works

Hi everyone. I own a GS3 that has been running flawlessly for about 3 weeks but since last 2 days it has developed a problem whereby it only charges via the laptop USB port and not the wall charger. I have tried factory reset, flashed two different custom ROMs based on two different firmwares, pulled battery many times, etc etc, to no avail.
the phone starts charging from wall charger, but after a few minutes, charging stops. I have used the original Samsung charger, my old HTC charger, with a combination of many different USB cables and the result is always the same. The USB port appears to be undamaged
ny suggestion to fix the problem?
Android 4.0.4
I9300BWLH1
Kernel SIYAH S3 V1.5.2
Well from what i can see the problem doesnt lie in the data cable. So maybe it the wall plug section. Or maybe the the socket itself maybe be faulty.
Problem doesnt seem to be in the phone itself so nothing to worrry about too much.
Maybe buy a travel charger to see if that helps.
Also high recommended that you do check the plug socket to see if anything else charges in there.
Might be worth charging in a different plug socket.
Hope this helps

the data cable IS OK !!
How about the plug socket. Have you tried to plug something else into the same plus socket to make that it still charges for example plugging your laptop into that same plug socket that your phone was to see if the laptop charges.

the result is the same.
it only charges via the pc USB port and not the wall charger
Well I thought my phone was broke last week...
It wouldn't charge so I tried my old HTC charger and that wouldn't charge it either but it would via usb to laptop. So I purchased a new wire and that worked, I then tested my HTC charger on my HTC Desire HD and that still worked.
So the SGS3 doesn't seem to charge using a HTC cable unless connected to a computer. Try purchasing a new genuine usb cable
Alternatively, you could wipe battery stats in CWM (in advanced menu) and see if that fixes it

I had the same trouble, only 3 weeks after I bought my SGS3.
I did go to Samsung repair center, and they change the motherboard (under warranty).
2 Month before, same trouble with my SGS2, unfortunatly no warranty.
Samsung ask me for (around) 300$ for motherboard, and I did not do.
I've removed batterie and charge with external battery charger .... and forget it a while.
When I try it later, it was working fine ! What was my surprise !
I can charge it again with charger.... two days after "same player shoot again" : impossible to charge ... then work again :silly: !
I'm having this issue too. There is a whole thread of people having charging issues, and I assumed my problem was the same, however upon further inspection it charges via PC USB cable. That said, this may be the issue with the others in that thread.
My phone definitely seemed to charge by powerpoint when I first got it, but has since stopped.
Charging by PC is a pain, as I use my phone as an alarm, and my PC is in another room.
edit: the lightning icon comes up when I plug it into the wall charger, it just gets no charge. Is this the same as everyone else?

Why is my I9100 charging slow?

I have a S2 and recently it started developing a problem where it charges slowly like it's plugged into the USB Port, tho it charges from a wall socket. If I let it charge for a bit like that and I unplug the wall charger from the socket and stick it back in it's all ok and charges normally.
Does this have smth to do with my charger or with my phone???
Recently I changed the rom and kernel so it's nothing related to that. (i'm on stock kernel, rooted now and before i was on what i have in my signature)
Thanks
I'd try using a different adaptor. If you're rooted I'd also recalibrate the battery. If problem persists a new battery may be needed.

I changed the battery not even a year ago... swtiched to the 2000mah one
I'm thinking a faulty charger that doesn't wanna charge unless he gets a bit heated up, as in a faulty capacitor
Dunno yet... will try the battery recalibrate stuff first

Go to Settings -> About phone -> Status. The Battery Status will show you how the phone is charging, by USB or AC. If you use the wall charger and the phone says Charging (USB) instead of Charging (AC) then your charger might be faulty.

Didn't try a new charger... tho i have an iphone one i could use with the usb cable... and see how it goes. But it seems the charger is faulty.
The problem is the charger. A wire was loose in the micro usb charger that tells the phone it's charging from the wall socket and not from usb

Check what the current_max is when it is charging using this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36124435
It happened to me too once. When I checked, the phone was charging at 100 when it should charge at 1000. Unplug abs re-plug the USB from the phone when the charger is connected to the mains. That should solve the issue.

i had this problem too, which i suspect that the charging port on my phone is damaged. anyways microusb ports usually tend to wear out over time and separate from the mainboard slightly giving a intermittent connection.
now i am using a wireless charger and it is charging much faster then my phone on mains.
That is 500ma on wireless vs 1A on wall.

Wireless charger? Whaaaat? Which country you're in? I thought that, it hasn't launched yet.. Atleast in India it has not.
Anyway.. Now I was charging through the normal charger via plug.. It works just fine..maybe in USB debugging my phone was constantly awake.. That may be the problem?

You can perhaps try running a battery calibration app and reset the battery stats to fix?

[Q] [Researched before posting] USB detection charging

I researched before posting this. I'm a Nexus 4 user fixing my fiancé's sgs3. The phone started charging at 100mA a few days ago. So I flashed temasek and boeffla to ignore the detection problem. Now, however, the phone detects the AC charger as USB. I've tried a different battery and 2 other chargers.
Also, to get around this, I used boeffla's kernel settings app to increase the Amps when charging from usb to 1000mA and the charging current increased on the Galaxy Charging lite.
However, if i use the phone while charging, the battery percentage drops. I need a way to fix the USB/AC detection problem. I can't keep the 1000mA rate on USB.
Any help?
Really? Nobody??
Try checking "ignore unstable charging power" and "disable charger margin detection ".
Set the USB current to 1000mA instead 475mA by default.
All that is done in Boeffla config.
If still the same, try with other USB cable.
If it keeps failing, I'd say the USB connector is damaged, common on these phones (and all other phones using microUSB)
Thanks for the reply. I've already tried all of that. It seems that when I plug the phone into the AC charger, sometimes the cable is detected as USB and it charges at 500mA (though set to 1000) and sometimes as AC. So what could the problem be here?
This forum is much more helpful than what I expected
