[Q] Bricked 8GB Nook Tablet - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

My Nook Tablet won't turn on it's just a black screen. It does turn on with a CWM SDcard but it wont let me install anything, it says "E:Can't mount /sdcard/" or "E:Can't mount /emmc/". It says this error when CWM starts up:
E:Can't mount / cache/recovery/command/
E:Can't mount / cache/recovery/log/
E:Can't open / cache/recovery/log/
E:Can't mount / cache/recovery/last_log/
E:Can't open / cache/recovery/last_log/
I've tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836 but it gives me an "X" right away. I have also tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470910 but the Nook doesn't even boot up. I was going to try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570022 but wasn't able to because the SDcard won't mount. I've been going at this for hours, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I had Cyanogenmod 11 and Clockworkmod 6.0.4.x installed before it stopped working. Do you guys think the reason I can't mount anything in CWM SD card is because it's an older version of CWM? The version I have is 6.0.3.7. Is there a newer version of CWM for SD card I can try out?

So you don't even get a cyanoboot screen ? I would recommend trying to install a 10.x version of cyanogynmod and see if it restores the boot loader for you. I say this because it should work with the sdcard you have.
Hopefully that will give you back access to recovery and what not.

Yeah, it won't turn on unless I have the CWM sd card inside. With the sd card I get Cyanoboot and recovery. But I can't install anything because CWM or TWRP can't mount the sd card.

You shouldn't have to mount the SD card if you are booting off of it, it should be browseable. You should be able to copy a ROM and gapps onto the card ahead of time and just flash.

When I try to install zip from SD card it says "E:Can't mount /sdcard/" in CWM.

OK, do you have a second sd card? You could dismount the boot SD card (cwm is loaded in memory) then mount the other card and see what happens. It's possible the image you used for cwm doesn't allow have of the boot card.

I have tried that method before but it didn't work for me. I got a red X where the checkmark is supposed to be and after a while it it says "The device will shut down in 5 seconds. Remember to take out the sd card before powering up!" then shuts down.

Any progress? I have identical situation, in your problem and your steps to resolve. I'm thinking the partitions got nuked. Unfortunately, ADB won't recognize in Windows, and I don't have Adb installed in my Linux machine to manually repartition. I'm thinking partition 5 got wiped, which of what I read is a hard brick, as it contains all the device info.
Have you tried partitioning a sdcard with CM installed to run off of it? I believe this will be my next step..if that fails I'll try to repartition with Linux.

Haven't made any progress. Yes I have tried running CM off of sdcard but it won't boot up. The nook turns on but it just stays at a black screen. My nook does show up in adb though, if I use the CWM SD card.

anyone have a solution to this yet?

I recently acquired a nook tablet that appeared to be stuck in a loop son brought it home from someone at work, I managed to figure out how to flash zips and all but this is totally alien to me and as for the waldo link to the repart my computer flagged it as a trojan and I proceeded to download and spent weeks undoing the damage incurred so I will not repeat that and have blocked all and any more changes that can happen without me stopping them from here in,. I will not go through ignoring the warnings any more I have ubuntu never used that before and ready to rebuild from scratch,, I have done many repairs worked as a dell tech many years on laptops.. but seems the world has passed me by standing still here.. with these tablets so odd I am lost anyone care to help an ol lady figure how to get back on track here would like to toss it out the window but i never pass up a challenge for figuring out new tech stuff just getting a bit harder as each year passing me by,,

[Q] Can't mount SD card on recovery

Hi all. Used the search tool but couldn't find nothing similar.
My ATRIX is unlocked, rooted, running stock gingerbread. I used the automatic script for unlocking bootloader and rooting. I guess it installed Tenfar's recovery too. I installed Rom Manager some time ago, and today I have CWM Recovery 5.0.2.0. So I wanted to switch to romracer's in order to install a custom rom (maybe neutrino or wet dream, something with hdmi landscape =).
I was trying to instal romracer's recovery this morning. I'd put the .zip on my ext sdcard, but when I tried to use the "Install fom SD card" in RomManager, all I could see was the internal storage files. So I went ahead and transferred the .zip to internal storage root. Used Install from SD card again, selected the .zip. The phone rebooted, got into recovery mode.
That's when the problem came. It keeps waiting for SD card to mount, and then times out (20s). Is this sdcard trying to mount the EXT microSD? Why he needs it, since the .zip is in internal storage?
Any ideas on how to solve this? Am I doing something wrong here? Thank you very much. sorry providing so much information, thought it could be useful.
edit: additional information: I can see and use the external sd card on the phone normally. Can acces it via USB too, no problem.
Where exactly are you stuck? You say you managed to flash a zip and then rebooted the phone, right? So where are you now?
What filesystem is your SD card formatted in?
Boot to fastboot and flash recovery from fastboot.

When it reboots and automatically enters recovery, it says it cannot mount the SD card. So it doesn't actually flashes the zip, I guess. I'm where I begun.
Windows says its "FAT". Not FAT32, just FAT. Its a small (512mb) microsd card from my old phone. Should I format it? Maybe its just too small to use in this phone?
Thanks for your reply.

will try that later. thanks.
no clue about what was happening to my sdcard?
I thought it might've been a fs issue - I had something similar recently, but it does seem more like your recovery is borked!
As that guy up there ^ said, flashing over the recovery may do the trick

Oh My.. What did I do??

Tried to flash MeanRom to my EVO Lte after using CMX for a week or so with no problems.
Now I'm all turned around and I have no clue what's going on. My phone will still boot into recovery so I'm assuming all hope is not lost. However I can't access my internal sd, can't use the adb shell command (I get: "- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2)"), I've tried to flash CMX back onto my phone but the files seem to have disappeared from it's internal memory. adb reboot recovery works, sends me to TWRP. But once in TWRP I get confused and frustrated because I can't seem to find a way to just flash a damn ROM onto my phone. None of my backups are listed in "restore" and I had three there this morning. WHAT GIVES?
I'm using a Mac and don't have access to Linux or Windows, I was going to try to unroot it and start from there but I can't seem to find a way to unroot the phone on a Mac. Unless I'm googling wrong.

you did save your backups to external not internal right?
are you s-off? what boot loader?
if you can get into recovery you should be able to load a rom zip on sd card and flash from external card.

I saved them to internal. I don't have an external yet.. Single mom, had to buy my kid shoes. Damned priorities...
I can get into recovery I just don't have an external sd that I can put a zip on. I thought I had an extra from my old HTC G2 but I've been unable to locate it.
Should I run out to Fry's and buy an external sd card or is there a way to fix it without the external?
Edit: Btw, I'm s-ON. I'm still fairly new ish to this stuff so I'm not 100% what bootloader I'm using. Is it the same as Hboot? Hboot is 1.19.0000

thats fine, go to twrp and select mount/mount as storage and connect to pc, format volume fat32

Now once I do that, just add the rom files to my phone's internal and try to flash a new rom, correct?
Have you tried to format storage through the boot loader?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
yes, once its formatted, add a rom, prefereably meanrom, its the only one I've tried that has reliably installed the kernel. Give it 5-10 minutes, the phone will hang on writing kernel and it will reboot 2-3 times and it will hang each time, just let it do its thing

No, that literally just occured to me as I refreshed the page. Off to try that now.
I don't have an HTC phone with me now to show the exact steps but usually when you get to the boot loader it will have an option for formatting storage. Then try to go into recovery and mount.

Maybe twrp isnt mounting the internal memory. I dont see that being a problem though

Well **** I'm going to run out and buy a microsd and try to flash the rom from external. Let you know how it goes.
Alright, so flashed CMX back to my phone from the external sd. Worked beautifully. I now have a rom running on my phone.
Still can't figure out the internal sd.... Is there anyone who can tell me step-by-step what to do to reformat it or fix it or whatever? I feel like this should be a relatively easy fix, am I right? Why can't I figure it out?? Ugh.
Reboot to recovery, select mount, select mount USB storage, plug it into pc, open disk utility and select sd, select erase and choose fat
When you're booted up an go in to Menu/Settings/Storage is nothing showing under Internal storage or Phone storage?

Cant Mount SD Card In Recovery

Hey Guys,
Can anyone please help me?
I had a search but cant really find any direct answers,
I had an S2 before, never had any problems, rooting it flashing ROM etc etc,
Just got an S3,
When i first flashed a CWM on it, i think it was version 6.0?
I had no SD card in at the time, after flashing it went to a CWM recovery screen and had a count down from 20 seconds saying "Trying to mount SD Card"...of course there was none inside it at the time , so the timer went to 0 and then reboot the phone and it was back to the launcher, I inserted an SD card, downloaded a ROM,
I then , reboot to recovery, now when i try to use my SD card to install the file it says "Cant mount SD Card",
Tried to go to advanced and mount, still no luck?
I tried to flash 6.1.4 touch recovery, same thing,
i went back to 5.5 same thing,
SD card works fine when i am in windows, or when the phone is on and file explorer,
I just flashed a Stock ROM through Odin and tried again, still no luck,
Someone,
Please help
Thanks

Use the Sammy rom, go to settings/storage and format the sdcard using the phone. Then it should mount using CWM.
Never format/repartition your sdcard using your computer again, shrink it if you want extra space for something else (I shrank it for creating a "Linux swap" to use yank555 swap mod so telling you just in case.).

sd slot/usb debugging mode errors

Hello everyone
I have searched for this issue and haven't had any luck finding a resolution. I also posted on an existing post ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2343217 (post #9) ) and didnt get any help. So I hope that constitutes as following the rules to open a new thread.
To sum it pretty concisely, I was on vacation, something made my phone act very erratically and perform many random reboots, often 20+ in a row without getting past the cyanogen boot screen.
anyway, i just figured i would go without a phone the rest of the trip and put the phone in my bag where the battery died. when I got home from vacation I plugged my phone to charge the battery and the when I turned it on, the reboot problem was gone. It acted normally and was working fine.
However when I went to take a photo, the camera app said, "no storage, no external storage available" and in the background it said " insert an sd card before using the camera"
so i went to settings>storage and looked at the information and it shows the sd card is mounted under the sd card slot. under the internal storage slot, it says "mount sd card". when I unmount from the sd card slot, and try to mount to internal storage, it says "preparing sd card" but nothing changes and there is still an option to "mount sd card" under internal storage.
I have TWRP recovery and when I did a factory reset and that didnt help. I cant wipe anything because it says "failed to mount sd card" in the console log.
I really have no clue how this happened or what I can do to fix the issue. My phone will not connect to my computer and I just need help from you guys.
Im running..
CM10
S-On
Hboot 1.15.000
OpenDSP-v25.1.0.32.0405
eMMC-boot
If Im in the fastboot menu, and I click bootloader, it says
SD checking..
Loading [PJ75DIAG.zip]
No Image!
Any help is very much appreciated! thanks!

Anyone? I will happily donate to whoever helps me fix this problem :good:

Have you tried going to the mount menu in recovery, connecting your phone and PC and mounting the SD card to see if you get the option to format it on your PC? I would also try mounting internal storage this way to see what happens.
Also, the "error" you reported regarding what happened when you selected bootloader is actually normal. The bootloader is looking for a PJ75IMG.zip file on the external SD card (like when updating firmware) and will give that message when one isn't found.
Are you running CM 10 or is it newer, like 10.1 or 10.2?

[Q] not mounting internal SD, can't boot into ROM

Hey everyone. About a week ago my Rezound was having issues and wasn't running well. It wasn't all that unusual, so I just decided to reboot. From then on it hasn't been able to load the ROM.
I went into my recovery (TWRP 2.6.3.0) to format \cache and \dalvik, and try again, but it cannot mount either partition. In fact, it can't mount any partition on the internal SD including \system, so I cannot reflash a ROM.
What works: bootloader, recovery, fastboot. mounting external SD
What doesn't work: I tried reflashing boot.img like Snuzzo recommended in some threads, but no dice. I tried erasing the partitions using fastboot, but I could only erase the cache partition and nothing else.
Phone:
VIGOR PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-2.28.0000
RADIO-2.23.10.0123r/23.10.-124r
OpenDSP-v14.6.0.7708.00.0507
ROM: PACMAN, though I'm not sure it's important.
What am I missing? This seems to be a common problem, but I haven't seen a solution that works for this case.

in wipe... try wiping the internal memory and plug it in the computer using the mount in twrp make sure at the top of twrp the main directory its looking at is either emmc or sdcard0 or the 10 some odd gb's....in windows is the space readable in start menu>control panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Manaement> Storage> Disk management...if so repartition and format it there
I tried to wipe internal SD in TWRP, but I get the same failure to mount those partitions. Once it can't mount them, it doesn't even let me select them for mounting to USB. It behaves like they doesn't exist.
That said, I haven't tried to use the disk management utility in Windows yet. Something was detected, as indicated by that sound Windows makes when you plug something in, but it never pulled up the autorun prompt. Maybe the partition really can be initialized in windows.
Unfortunately, when I plugged in my phone my computer turned off, making that power loss cutoff sound we all dread, and hasn't turned on since. I think something blew on the motherboard.
Sigh, it's been a hell of a week. I have to put this on hold for a while. I'll get back to it as soon as I'm up and running again. Thanks for the help in the meantime.

Yeah, I unplugged and let it sit overnight. No dice, feels like a total loss. I think the issue might be that I accidentally used the nexus 7 cable, which I have a sneaky suspicion uses a different charging mechanism than usual.

If it isnt ill be glad to help you out bud
Since you're s-off, I'd just RUU the phone at this point, it resets all the partitions and stuff.
Make a back up of your internal SD if you can, it gets wiped.
Also you can back the rom up to your external SD, RUU, re-install your recovery and restore your rom when you're done. There is also a zip to update the firmware floating around if you want to get back to the latest hboot/radios.

Try the mirrors there, at least one should still be active.

You don't need a PC to install a RUU (well other then to get the zip file on the SD Card).

You can tell Android Police they labeled it wrong then - [Exclusive Download] Full RUU Build 4.03.605.2 For The HTC Rezound
It's a PH98IMG.zip they listed, not an exe. As far as I've seen, an exe has never been released. It returns everything to stock on the phone, can't hurt to try it.
OP - Can you mount external SD in TWRP or have an external micro sd reader? If so give this a try.

he can mount external but as stated he cant boot into the rom....so he cant download from phone or pc right now as far as the info he messaged me...what android police may have done is taken the update out of the ruu.exe and made a ph98img out of it...but i can assure you an ruu "ROM Update Utility" or something in that manner is a program used to flash the phone to an earlier, or newer, stock rom while also completely reformating and wiping the phone from a much deeper internal level

If he can mount external and get into the bootloader, he's good to go...
When people in the Rezound section are referring to RUUing their phones, they are referring to what I posted, there is no actual executable RUU in the wild for this phone. I know it's supposed to be an exe, this is all we've got and it does reformat everything on the phone. I've has to use it to fix my internal storage in the past when CM roms were hosing it up.
It can't hurt to try it before the OP has to go through the trouble of shipping his phone...
