But that's pretty much the only reference I've found. The firmware isn't listed on sammobile.com nor any other info. Might be risky to root without having the firmware available. Can you post the other info like build version, baseband version, etc?

Yea...It's risky to try and mod a phone that you don't know what it is or even if there is firmware available. Think you're in for a long road to recovery if it is possible at all... I'm pretty certain it's not an S3 though, unless it was a special demo model. I've seen or read about every other variant of the S3 and have never heard or seen this model anywhere. There are only 2 S3 T-Mobile variants - t999 and t999l.
Thanks for your help Just have to make the best of it.

Hi all, I need some information/help regarding the method to unroot my phone. i have checked a bunch of sites online and i know what the general idea is, but i can't seem to find the original firmware for my phone.
i am currently using an i9300 that I purchased unlocked from Amsterdam last summer. i have rooted it and have been using it on cm9 stable for the international s3 and now want to go back to stock firmware for warranty reasons.
i have been through the list of firmwares on samsung-updates.com but I am not sure which firmware i should install for my specific phone. there are a few netherlands links that i saw but were for tmobile...
furthermore, using *#1234# on my phone doesnt do anythign at all. the baseband version is i9300CELH1 when i go into about phone.
please help me figure out where I can find the original firmware for my phone that will keep it in its original warranty.
Thanks and I apologize in advance if I come off as a noob!

my phone was unlocked, got it for 600 euros so it wasnt locked to any carrier as far as I know.
sam mobile shows tmobile and vodafone, and a third one that doesnt mention any carrier. should i just go ahead with that? either way, is there a chance of my phone being bricked?

There is always a 'Chance' of being bricked but to be honest if you follow the Instructions it should be all ok, I have flashed via ODIN quite a lot and never had any issues Id say go for whichever ROM version you want e.g. is 4.1.2, I know new version is out on Vodafone so id say give that one a try just make sure to select the correct model number
Hi guys!
I recently bought my first andoid phone, which is the GS3, so i have little knowledge about android OS. So, i bought it in a mall which basically sells all electronic devices, but most of them are unofficial, which means they snuck up the devices to the country (china) from other countries.
I received my GS3 on 4.0.4 and i have no idea whether it was a custom ROM or not, all i know is that when i check for an update on the settings page, it failed to process with the message "Processing failed". From then on i assume it is a custom ROM that the sellers had installed previously (or not? i don't know). The phone was also not rooted as i checked with several apps from the play store.
So i wanted to restore a stock ROM 4.0.4 to the device using Odin but i keep getting an error message of "unsupport dev_type" whenever i wanted to flash it. So i thought i need a root access to the device to flash it (not sure). I downloaded a CF root 6.3 and went on flashing it (USB Debug was turned on) but it failed and when i reboot the phone im stuck with the error message.
Now, somehow i dont know how, i managed to get out of this brick and went back to my default OS, but since i'm an idiot i tried to root it again and im stuck on this message again and can't get back to being unbrick.
So can you guys help me:
1. unbrick the phone from this state?
2. Flash a stock ROM.

Okay, I will read the stickies threads.
If you mean by under the battery is the sticker with the model numbers and things:
Model: GT-I9300
FCC ID: A3LGTI9300A
SSN= -I9300GSMH
Do you want me to post my IMEI and S/N number as well?
Btw i checked my IMEI at IMEI.info and it shows up as a galaxy s3 so i guess its not a clone?
Two things i found interesting, it says in IMEI.info as a 32GB model while the one i have is 16GB model. Also, on the box it says Marble White
I'm guessing its like a refurbished version or something.

Edit: Also i downloaded a stock ROM before but before it starts flashing, Odin crashed in my windows 8 machine, and in my windows 7 machine i get "Unsupport dev_type".
you can also google the latest rom for your country.

Oh, do you know whether there is like an online checker for serial number from samsung or something? just to make sure whether it is or it isnt? I was searching for one like Apple's warranty coverage thing, but couldnt find similar thing for samsung.
Alright, I've found more weird info.
I know it says GT-I9300 on the back of the phone behind the battery and on the settings page on the OS it self. But when i connect it to Kies, it shows up as a SGH-I747M, which i belive is the North American Model.
Then I download some spec identifying software to find that i have a dual core processor and 2Gb of ram, instead of the Quad core processor and 1Gb of ram (GT-I9300).
Would that explain the "unsupport dev_type"?
EDIT: On Android System Info app i just downloaded, under "Buildinfos-> Fingerprint" I identified it as I747MMVLALE8 model, but under "Model" it says GT-I9300, is this normal?? I want to get to the bottom of this.
EDIT: Alright, i've managed to gain Root Access by using CF root for the version SGH-I747M. So its confirmed that its not the international version, but the North America verison.
All reads as something wrong .
One a fake
Two a phone flashed with wrong firmware and damaged or just wrong firmware .
Suggest you flash correct stock for SGH-I747M via sticky top of the page .
Or return the phone to the vendor .

Hah, the last thing I wanna do is to talk to the seller, cuz they are very non understanding here in China.
If I flash the stock rom for SGH-1747M, would it be SIM locked? Because it is a Canadian version, don't know which one since there are 3with the same model.

Did you end up flashing the North American rom? If so, did it work for you? I'm curious to find out, because I'm in the exact same situation right now...
do this, BEFORE CONNECTING PHONE TO PC start kies go to upgrade and initialisation. enter your phone model number and serial number. put phone in download mode, vol down +home+power NOW CONNECT PHONE TO PC. this should force kies to upgrade your firmware even if it previously said it was not supported.good luck.

Hey!
I bought an international version Galaxy S3 and noticed in boot mode that my product name says SGH-T999, which is the U.S. T-Mobile version. However in about device menu my build number is indicated as I9300ZSEMC1, which is the international version from HK. Quadrant also indicates model as I9300. I haven't flashed any kernel or ROM yet, but the binary counter is at 2 so I'm guessing I didn't really receive my phone fresh out of factory. I want to recover back to stock and I'm confused on which version of stock recovery should I download? I'm guessing the ZEMC1 version, but I want to make sure Also, should I just go along with this or should I fix the wrong product name issue first?

Did you buy your phone off ebay or similar? Fake phones are often sold as one model when really they only change the model number from another one. I certainly wouldn't flash a rom until you are certain of the model.
Samsung would never supply a phone new or refurbished like this and certainly not with the counter at 2.
Trust the boot loader, it can't be modified.

I checked the hardware specs, CPU frequency and GPU match the SGH T999 with 1.5GHz and Qualcom Andreno. I guess I got screwed over a little. Then again, it doesn't lag like the legit I9300 version of my buddies so I got that going on for me.
Then, how do I proceed with flashing stock? I notice the guide I linked includes links to U.S. carrier versions so I'm assuming I can carry on with it, apart from downloading the SGH version rather than ZSEMC
EDIT: I followed androidayos guide how to revert T-mobile gs3 to stock firmware, and it worked fine. Even the sticker behind battery was reprinted for fake i9300. I really hope no one gets screwed over like that, but in case you do, this helped.
Thank you guys for the assistance.
Similar problem
I have a similar problem with my Samsung Galaxy S3. In odin mode it pretends to be SGH-I747, but the sticker under the battery shows to be an international model GT-I9300. The about phone settings show my S3 is an international variant. I managed to open it with a screwdriver, i was surprised to see the motherboard is for SGH-I747.
I would say my phone has been modified. I have trouble with my phone as it can't connect to HSDPA. It only connects to Edge. I was thinking that flashing would solve the issue. But which firmware? It currently has android 4.3. Your help please!!

Hello Everyone,
I've tried searching for this issue in the forum, but nothing was close to what I was experiencing.
I have come across a used T-mobile galaxy s5 here in my country (Morocco), It's unlocked, but I don't know what kind of flashing operations this phone has undergone before falling into my hands.
The main issue is that the network connection is unstable, it drops every 15 minutes or so, and when I try to make calls I get the error message '' not registred to network "
The IMEI Number seems good, I'm running a stock t-mobile Rom (with all the software, and the t-mobile logo on boot) and I've update my firmware with samsung Kies. The issue is still there.
My main interrogation is what do I try now to make it work, it seems to me that the baseband needs to be patched or something like this to work with our local carrier (Itssalat al Maghrib) but I'm open to all of your suggestions.
Thank you very much for your help and time.

I'm not a newbie to flashing ROMs but I am for flashing ROMs to my T820. I was following some instructions and something went horribly wrong. The ONLY thing I'm able to get into is the downloader (pwr+vol-dwn+home). I've gone through some threads about needing to re-flash stock image using Odin. So my question is, is re-falshing stock ROM the answer to this issue? And if so, where can I find a stock ROM for T820. I've looked through all kinds of threads and other sites looking for it and can't find it. I've tried using SamFirm but being as I can't get into my tablet I don't know the CSC/Region to use; and sidebar, it always says unauthorized anyway regardless of what region I put in the form. Does anyone have any advice to get me up and running? I started down this process because I had finally had it with the poor performance after a 2019 update and thought I'd try to give another ROM a try. Now I'd be happy to get back to my poor performing tablet.

Sorry to hear that.
A stock reflashing should help, but of course I can't guarantee that.
The original Samfirm isn't working any more.
You have to take samfirm_reborn0.3.6.2.
As you don't write where you're from I can't recommend a region.
Do you know this site: https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-tab-s3/firmware/#SM-T820 as well?

Here's question, does it matter what CSC I use? I get it probably has implications for the cell version (T825 I think?), but for the wifi version is it needed? Could I use any English firmware? The only CSC codes I could find related to USA were ones bound to a carrier. I also found a few "unknown" CSC codes. Any idea what those are for?
@gregchak by searching the net for you I've found these two:
List of Samsung Galaxy CSC Country Specific Product code and region they belong to
List of CSC Country Specific code for Samsung Galaxy & various countries, regions, network carriers, model numbers, variants phone belong to.
www.androidsage.com
Samsung CSC Codes List For All Countries | iHax
Here is the complete Samsung CSC Codes list of all the regions and carriers. The Samsung Country Sepcific Codes list should help you identify the right firmware for your device.
ihax.io
In the past I thought like you that it doesn't matter, but I've realized after searching there are differences in Wifi frequencies/channels in the world.
idk how much the CSC interacts with Wifi.
So it might be ok, but idk exactly.
Btw doesn't it say anything on the T820 packing.
Unfortunately the packaging has long since been thrown out. I bought this tablet about 3-4 years ago. I tried a few different CSC codes that might work. XAR is apparently what worked for me. I was able to get that image installed via Odin and I'm back up and running. I really appreciate your help!
I followed the documentation I could find for getting the CSC from the settings app on my tablet but it says to look for it under Settings -> About Tablet -> Software Information -> Service Provider Software Version section. I don't have such a section. Also, being a tablet, I can't use the phone dialer method either. Do you know what the method is to get the CSC from settings? Or is there another way?

You could try PhoneINFOsam or HW info, but they need root what you probably don't have any longer, or do you?
Imo as you flashed XAR that should be its CSC (now)
@gregchak and I just found/remembered that:

btw. it may be helpful for others if you edit your thread title and add "solved"

Good point about the title. I edited as you mentioned.
I tried booting into download mode but I don't see any CSC codes noted there. It looks like what I posted pics attached to my original post. The documentation I had read previously said that it is noted in download mode under the carrier section. But since my tablet is WiFi only I don't have a carrier section displayed in download mode.
@gregchak I suspected that, but it might have worked.
Another chance is the serial number perhaps.
But as there will be no more OTA updates published by Samsung it's not really necessary to know the former CSC.
Btw the app PhoneInfoSAM is telling me the original CSC on my WIFI P900.
