My smart call doesn't work in motion setting. I opened it but nothing change, why?
It works only if you pick the phone from a flat surface and not out of pocket.

Try this -
- Place the phone on a flat surface facing up
- Ring it with another phone
- Pick it up and bring it to you ear
- Retry for reject too
Its a hit or miss feature because it requires the phone to be laying flat on a surface and must be brought towards the ear in a flow.

I tried,I put it on a flat surface and called another phone. When phone ringing but nothing. I tried 3 motions but didn't work anyone.
Mine works when I bring it to my ear, doesn't have to be flat for me doesn't matter if it's on its side or at an angle etc

I haven't decline any calls, but the smart call works fine for me when accepting calls.
Mine works even if it's not on flat surface. When someone is calling l I just took it out of my pocket and bring it to my ear. It works.
I tried everything but no chance, didn't work.I updated latest firmware 17.1.1.A.0.402 but same doesn't work any motion smart call choise.

I'm hoping someone has a solution to this very annoying issue I'm having with my Note 2.
It's Verizon - stock - 4.1.2
When I dial a phone number and put the phone to my ear the screen goes black - as it should. But when I move the phone away from my ear the screen doesn't come back on. It stays blacked out and I can't get it to come back on with the home or even the power button.
This means I can't hang up, I can't put the phone on speakerphone mode, I can't use the touchtone pad to navigate through menus. It's made my phone a real pain in the arse.
Anyone have any thoughts on what to do or what's going wrong?:fingers-crossed:
A couple things I'm thinking... Try pulling out your spen when it happens.. Do a battery pull if nothing else.. It might be the proximity censor... Do you have a screen protector on it?

I'll try the s-pen, maybe that will work.
I've got a screen protector, but it's the same one I've had on since I first bought the phone months ago. I've pulled the battery several time, it's the only way to hang up!
I too think it's the proximity censor, which sucks because I don't want to trade in my phone for some refurb that's gone through God knows what.
Good luck...those were the only things I could think of. ..

Check your case and your screen protector. and clean the proximity sensor. Know it sounds weird, but have problems before with screen protectors getting oil on them when placed to the ear and the sensor thinking you are still close. Also lighting from cases makes the sensor go fruity. Not a science but worth a check.

The problem is that the screen will not turn back on when the phone is pulled away from your face.

I dont know if its just sprint phones but i assume most Note 3's will experience this issue. Something about the sensors not reading accurately. When i clean the sensor area with a cloth it works correctly. Hold the phone to my ear for a few minutes and it stops working. Clean the sensor area while still on the call and it will start back working... Issue probably started day one but just now realizing its a issue.
I had issues with this as well, the screen wouldn't turn off during a call, but turned out to be my screen protector. Pulled it off and works perfect now. Cheers!
Returned mine yesterday with a little headache as the rep i first spoke to decided to play with my phone vs doing a exchange. Manager sorted it all out and gave me a new phone. Also knox was tripped but i don't think they care. Dont think im going to root again till KNOX is out the way.
The sensor works like it is suppose to now. Funny story is that the sensor tried to act right at the sprint store. They have spot lights so the sensor was reading correctly. Explained to them i didnt walk around under spot lights they agreed and did the exchange.
So, I had this issue on my phone. Tried a bunch of stuff. The fix for me: can of compressed air targeted into the earpiece. Immediately solved and perfect again.

Worked for me for about 5 min on my old note 3. Also wiping the screen were the sensor is works. Of the screen cuts off and you wipe that area with a microfiber cloth the screen comes back on. Lol

Will report back if problems return. Hoping for the best I already tripped knox.
Hello everyone. I found the cause of this I hope. The main culprit is hardware. 1st I will tell solution for this problem. Just push hard the earpiece chrome grill inside with ur nails and the proximity sensor will work properly. problem is when we use phone and it gets heated at top then the glue which is holding earpiece grill will loose itself. its hardware problem and eventually many note3 users will face this. im using exynos note3.

You can also get a micro fiber cloth a wipe the sensor area. And the light will cut back on. Before returning the defective one i did that a few times. Never even touched the ear speaker grill.
So once you have the phone to your ear and it cuts off....Wipe just the sensor are with the micro fiber cloth. The screen will come back on. It will happen again the next time you use the phone but i am just saying its not the ear speaker.

Thanks Brian! That did the trick!
Until an hour ago, everything was fine. I received a cell from my friend i couldn't hear anything, i thought it may be network error, so i disconnected the phone, he called back again , even then i couldn't hear anything (i found hat my screen didn't went off as i placed the cell near my ear). so i rebooted my cell. again i called him, i noticed that i could not hear from earpiece, so i turned on the speaker and i could hear him, and even if i turn off the speaker and place the cell near my ears, the screen wont turn black.
even i factory formatted my cell, still the problem persists
i checked via cpu z and z device, my proximity is working fine, shows 3cm when i keep my hand near it ,and 100cm when hand is away...
ps. i googled a lot, still didnt find the solution.
edit : if i press hard on the earpiece, the proximity works and i can hear frm earpiece , but only for a sec of so , again the screen lights up and i cant hear from earpiece.
edit2 : i just put back my cover (a kind of hard plastic back cover) and now its working fine, i donno what all happened with my cell, but its really embarrassing for me to create this thread, I am really sorry. I request mods to pardon me and del this thread.
edit3 : the problem is back, and i think its an serious issue
help is really needed.
proximity sensor has nothing to do with the 'hearing' part...... it just turns the screen off...
are you on stock?

Yea I'm dealing with the same issue on my at&t model, it's definitely a proximity sensor issue. Also, I find that the proximity sensor functions relatively OK outside of the phone app when I'm on a call in terms of lighting of fading to black...I haven't found a fix yet, hopefully it's a software issue though somethings telling my it's not... Just another defect in a long line of LG phones as of late

I have a same issue but clean the proximity sensor and it will work. The proximity sensor is next to the speaker. Clean with your t-shirt or jeans.

I've cleaned it several times to no avail
I have noticed occasional "quirkiness" while in the phone app, but not to the point of requiring a battery pull. Example, connected via Bluetooth, while plugged to a charger in a call, no way to wake the phone without pulling the charger.

Thank you. Thank you. Your proposed solution works very well. Now no more this problem. Had never thought the sensor could be dirty or blocked over time. I had the phone only about 2 months
Problem update
Okay, I've found new info on the proximity sensor problem. Firstly, I noticed that my proximity sensor still works with the second screen, if I cover it up when my screen is off it goes black and comes back on when I remove my finger. Secondly, if I was on the phone but not actually in the phone app it would behave normally sometimes. Now today I found out that when I'm in the phone app, if I'm talking on the phone through the speaker the screen does not go black, as soon as I take it off speaker, the screen goes immediately blank. Still have not found a fix, but just more info that may help define what the actual problem is.
anyone have any update on this? this issue seems to be getting worse for me
Same issue, drives me nuts. This phone is a disappointment to me overall. Have an S7 on pre-order with Verizon. Can't wait to get my hands on it!
Had same issue just happen on the AT&T LG Escape 2. (Yes I know its a year since this thread was started)
It was the proximity sensor but the "T-shirt wipe" method didn't work for me.
What I did realize there was some gunk on the sensor, and I used a cotton swab (Q-tip) with alcohol and rubbed it till it was visibly clear of gunk. Now it works fine again..

Went into settings

My phone's always-on display will turn off. I can't bring it out of it's 'slumber' anyway other than plugging it in. It instantly pops out of sleep and works fine. I'll lock it and while I can see the always-on display the fingerprint reader will unlock it with no problems. This just started in the past hour for me. I've tried resetting the phone and the issue still pops up, and quickly at that.
Are you using a case or screen protector? Could be something interfering with the ambient light or proximity sensor causing the phone to think it's in your pocket at all times?
Edit:
Actually just tested this. Covered the top sensors and the always on display turned off and fingerprint sensor no longer worked just like you described

You may be right about that. I'm using a lifeproof case and I had just opened it up to clean off the inside (I had shown someone the phone earlier and dog hair found its way to the inside of the case). Funny thing is I turned it completely off and let it sit for a time, as opposed to the restart I did earlier, and it's working alright now. Maybe I just needed to reset it's calibration by resetting it?
Anyone know how to disable this weird dependence on the light sensor? I just don't understand why it would ever disable itself because it's dark.

I read this is a feature of the phone. The always on will turn off in your pocket or in a darkened room. Nice idea since you do not need to be using the juice then. You can test this in a dimmly lit room by cupping your hands over the display to block the light.

Sure, but it won't turn on even when I press the back button. Pretty obnoxious when I'm sitting in a blacked out room and I have to hold it up to the computer screen to activate it.
Yeah, I'm sorry I didn't read the thread carefully. That sucks. I'm in a dark room now watching video. The display turned off, I heard a notification, when I picked up the phone it came on. I do not like that that the led notifications stop. I'm not sure what happens to sound notifications when the always on goes off. I prefer to set the phone silent until a certain time in the AM and then use a sound profile to get notifications and a low volume.

I'm thinking it was the Lifeproof case I have on it. It all worked fine for a week then when I tested the case for waterproof it failed (the phone wasn't in it). I sent for another one and it seems to be working alright now. Maybe it had something to do with the inside of my case getting wet? I don't know.
Great! Enjoy your phone g why are we still calling these things phone?). I like the G5. Now that we have torur I am hoping their for some nice tweaks.
I've had this happen too and it made my life proof case useless because I couldn't use my phone with it on it I still have the issue once in a while but not nearly as often anymore
