[Q] - Recommendation for a Backup & Restore App - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having always rooted my phones I never had an issue backing up apps and data via Titanium backup but am now looking for a solution to back up apps and their data on my non-rooted Z2.
Having just flashed the latest Z2 firmware via Flashtool which wipes the phone, I've restored backups I had made with Sonys Back Up and Restore app only to find it didn't backup all it said it did, so had a number of apps and data missing.
Can anyone recommend a solution to this

I was in the same boat as yourself, Ive found a good one is HELIUM, plus helium will state what apps don't have a backup option coded into them so unlike sonys own app u wont be annoyed when some apps do/don't backup Also Helium allows cloud backups as well as internal and external sd card backups
Im currently using helium for apps and Mybackup pro for my text message backups as I found heliums message backups were weirdly in the opposite date order to normal use( instead of latest being at bottom of list it was at top)

Thanks mate, will give Helium a try

Just confiming, does Hellium doesnt back up the app data like TB?
I know ive read somewhere there is an app by chainfire for app and data backup for non rooted but at first glance it seem a bit long winded so never bothered with it.
I used easy backup which restored my apps, sms, mms, call log etc all no probs but yeah problem was no data backed up so had to set them all up like email, settings etc all over again.

I understand Unlocking and Rooting an Xperia is a tough task. But the stock ROM is good enough.
A good article here. It helped me and it may help you too buddy.

well your not gonna get the same level of backup due to lack of root, but for me it saved things like game progression(i.e angry birds) but didn't save things like custom widget sets in HD widgets app. But not the end of the world.
Ive started looking at my backups a bit more in detail and asking do I really need a backup of some apps, as some are just install-login to app and use no custom data to speak of to really backup. Or other apps like XDA app and game progression which have custom settings and progression Id like to save.

bro, Last time I used Helium is when it was called Carbon, I tried it with Xperia S and it didn't worked at all, after that I saw this in it's description in Play Store
Note: Some Sony devices have issues with Helium. This includes the Xperia S and Xperia Z. Sony has *disabled* backup on these devices completely.

I lost hope after that, so does it work now on Z2 ?
I'm still not in a hurry to have Z2 as there's still no way to root without unlocking the bootloader, and I will not unlock the bootloader without backing up the TA partition first ( which requires root )... so I've been looking for a way to copy some of my app's data from my old phone to Z2, I used to use Titanium Backup always but you know, no root = no TB...
so can you confirm please that you used Helium to backup AND restore app's data to the Z2 ? or you're just guessing from a non-xperia experience ?

I used helium to backup my apps on my s3 then install them on my z2, ive also backedup up my current apps on my z2 since, but like ive already said helium cant backup certain apps as the app developer hasn't allowed backup function. Helium did the job for me for my game progression and a few apps where I wanted current setup saved.

[Q] Repair XMP ICS, Backup and Restore?

My girlfriend and I both have 2011 Minipros. Hers has gotten the ICS update, mine hasn't yet gotten it, so I haven't really had a chance to play with it yet.
Her problem is that her phone keeps freezing up. I want to do a repair with SUS. I'm also thinking about copying her SD to the computer, formatting the chip and putting her stuff back on it.
My question is how to backup her apps and data so I can put her phone back together. My 2011 minipro didn't come with the Backup and Restore app that my x10 minipro had, so I downloaded it from Sony. Will this same app work with ICS? Is this the best way to do it? Does someone have a link to this app? It's not on the Android Market.
I'll only have the phone for a few hours this afternoon, so I don't want to get buried too far into it or screw it up.
Thanks!
dave
I think that Titanium Backup will do the job. Even without root, you should be able to backup your apps. Then, you'll have to reinstalla Titanium Backup on the phone after repairing it, and restore your apps
EDIT
I'm actualy not sure about using TB without root... maybe you should wait for someone else's opinion :/
download the .ftf and flash it with flashtool

Titanium Backup doesn't work without root.
Contacts can be backed up via Contacts app.
The Backup and Restore app was partly on 2010 phones, then 2011 phones didn't get it at all and 2012 phones received it with ICS again.
To backup contacts to SD, use the contacts app directly. To backup SMSs, you can use SMS Backup&Restore. If you want to backup calendars, just synchronize them with google until you have repaired the phone. To backup apps and their settings, search the market for "backup" and you'll find something useful.
EDIT
Someguyfromhell, we wrote together. Thank you for clarifying about Titanium Backup!
Sony's Backup and Restore app doesn't appear to work on ICS. The app will install and make a backup, but I haven't had any luck getting it to restore the backup. Looks like I've lost her sms and mms and she'll have to restore her apps manually. Rats.

[Q] Backup data before root

Hey guys,
I've bought a new xperia z2 and Updated it to 4.4.4 but then I realized that root is only possible with a downgrade. So my question is:
Can I backup my data **without** root, downgrsde, root the phone, then go back up to 4.4.4 without a data loss? (Or at least a method with small data loss)
What 'data' do you want to backup? Apps like sms backup+ will backup you messages and call log. Sony has an app that can backup apps and data. Also titanium backup may be able to backup user apps.
Helium is one app that can backup all the data, sony backup sometime misses some app data, but will backup the apps themselves, not much useful in cases where the app is 50MB and then downloads 500MB of data after opening(like some games), helium takes care of that. just take the backup before downgrading, move it to your card or PC, downgrade, root, flash the latest recovery and ROM of your choice, then move the backup to your phone, (doesnt matter internal or external location, helium can select both for restore), and restore, et voila, you have your data. personally checked on games like real racing, poweramp player, messages(but to be sure better use SMS backup+ as suggested by our brother above), and even different browsers. but it does not work on system apps like youtube or chrome. no idea why.
Im just a bit nervous about rooting it as ive read online that Sony have put something in there Xperia models that you have to de-activate (something on there website) But if you do that then your phones warranty is completely void.
Id do it if I knew 100% how to do it and if it was 100% safe, Do you know of any guides for dummies for the 23.0.1.A.0.167 build number? Thanks.

just backup your original firmware before root. if you root your phone you will void warranty but if you re-flash your backed up original firmware then warranty will be back

Backup SMS on Android Marshmallow

Hello, I have a Nexus 6 running Nethunter on top of Cataclysm Android Marshmallow . I would like to back up my texts since I want to get Android N and they would be deleted. Does Nandroid back EVERYTHING up including app data? I have TWRP installed on my Nexus, but looking though the Nandroid back up options I only saw the system directories with options to be backed up. What I apps can I use to backup my messages? I do have root and busybox.
Use sms backup and avoid nandroid. Backing up with nandroid is only Good if you are restoring a botched system. And even then it has issues.
Another possibility is Titanium Backup or the OpenSoucre 0andBackup, both can create and restore a backup for your app data. Which is really night for otp apps or so.
For SMS use a specialized app like SMSbackup or SMSbackup+.

I have tried Titanium Back up, but when I restored my messages all of my SMS apps would not start and think I soft bricked too. I use Hangouts for SMS.
Thanks for the advice! I was going to just use nandroid, until I saw some replies on my thread. I did run a Nandroid backup last night and it did back up my /data partition. (Be spelling that wrong. But the partition was a massive 14 GB so I assume that's where all the users app data hangs out at)

Then use one of the sms backup apps. They may not work with android N. Restoring this type of data is always a crap shoot as it is system data and restoring that can cause issues as you have found out.

I went with SMS Back up and Restore. It looked more reliable than the others since it had material design and it got an update 29 days ago. I will probably be switching back to Marshmallow Wednesday night.

Recommend a system backup/restore app for H850?

Can anyone recommend a system backup/restore app that I can use to save my apps and settings, then later restore them to a new phone? I tried Helium last time but when I tried to restore my backup it told me that my backup file was invalid, so I'd like to try something more reliable this time!
I'm running stock Android 7, not rooted.
Titanium Backup (paid version) is what I've been using for years since it backs up to the external SD - plus I use the regular Google sync to backup my settings etc. That way I'm back online pretty fast after flashing a new rom

The Best Way To Backup & Restore Data

Hey
Im using Custom Roms now for over a year, but i always have one problem with restoring data.
I mostly use the Google Feature, that restores all your apps. But all the time i have to login in every app again and again. I mostly als make a Titanium Backup, but when i restore these over the preinstalled apps some apps crash or on Lineage OS the whole System was unusable. I also make a TWRP backup, restoring is not always possible when you switch to another Rom.
I also dont own Titanium Backup Pro, so autoinstalling dont work.
How do you restore apps + data ?
What guide did i miss ?
Thanks in advance
move up.
I 'm also interested which app for backup is recommend.
I know oandbackup and TitaniumBackup.
Till know I only tried oandbackup but there are several problems. Backup to SD-Card doesn't work. Also to internal storage the backup was complete but only a few MB big but should have a lot more.

TRY THIS APP
https://apkpure.com/backup-app-backup-restore/com.k2.backup
used to be on playstore but now removed
it copies your apk and data and restores it next time!
however later i found bug that it doesnt restore automatically
1. make backup by backup+ on customrom 9
1b. make backup of all APK by https://apkpure.com/app-backup-restore-easiest-backup-tool/mobi.usage.appbackup
flash new rom android 10
2a. restore APK only made by https://apkpure.com/app-backup-restore-easiest-backup-tool/mobi.usage.appbackup
2b, now create new apkonly bakeup only by backup+ and https://apkpure.com/backup-app-backup-restore/com.k2.backup
2c, restore "DATA ONLY" of PREVIOUSLY made backup by BACKUP+

After letting Google install all the apps just restore data from titanium, NOT app+data. Also, if you do this often just buy titanium. You spend so much money on the phone and titanium also works on all your future phones. It really saves you a lot of time and is well worth the money.
Titanium is the answer , it is feature packed as hell.
Also if you want to use a different android version backup to another version (Like from 9 to 10), you can always just restore the Data, it works for me always.
You can let google download all your previous apps in android 10 and then restore only data from Titanium, you can obviously batch select the apps to restore.

About the best way to Backup & Restore Data on Xiaomi phone, if there is a computer, my suggestion is Coolmuster Android Assistant. It's easy and safe. You just need to connect your Xiaomi phone to computer via usb cable, enable usb debugging on it. A deep scan later, you can take backup of your Xiaomi phone with 1-click. After that, you can use it restore data from backup directly.
