I am currently running Insertcoin 2.5.0 and have been getting bad battery life. My use is mostly just browsing, watching Youtube videos, flipboard, and I don't really play games. My service is usually 4 or 5 bars and I have tried monitoring my use with Gsam. I can not get even to 2.5 hrs. or screen on time. I have tried various roms but had the same or worse result most of the time. I know my battery isn't bad because, just to test, I used the original Verizon Sense 4 rom that came with the phone and with the same use, had great battery life, easily able to get 3.5 hrs. or screen on time. I don't want to use Sense 4 however so, what are some of the great roms for battery life? I prefer sense but aosp/aokp works also, just as long as there is good battery life.
Thanks
Best rom thread is not allowed in xda.. Do experiment yourself
Greetings,
As stated above there is no "best rom"
Best thing to do is read and flash and find what works best for you.

Which one tends to be better? Usually for HTC phones I find the aosp roms to trump the sense roms, but on my old Samsung Vibrant the aosp roms ALL had horrendous battery life!
Please lemme know your personal findings!
Thanks

I tried kj3 and cm7 #116 with siyah kernel on both and battery was the identical, cm7 felt smoother though. But some guys are able to squeeze 2 days of battery use while i can only do 1 day, so it also depends what apps you have running and how much you use the phone.

The same battery life? Interesting. In that case I'll probably choose Samsung roms for all the extra features and codec compatibilities.
Please! More opinions and thoughts!

Yup identical, i remember seeing people posting these great 2day battery life shots and they were all on samsung roms so i decided to give it a try. After i loaded the samsung rom and all of my apps/widgets from my cm7 rom the battery life was identical at the end of the day. I do miss that codec compatibility but mx video player takes care of that with ease.

As long as my display has consumed 70-75% at the end of my day (when my battery went from 100% to 20%) I don't bother looking at ways to eliminate the "drain" that some users have. Most, if not all, of the drain is installed on the outside of the screen.
Sure, when I put it in airplane modus inside a vault it lasts more than 5 days. Yay I must be a super tweaker.
i get about 17 hours with about 5.30 hours of display on samsung based ROM but then again it all depends on what you use your cell for
Thanks for all the input keep em coming!

Any screen on times for aosp? Thx!
As the thread title states, I'm looking for a ROM with good battery life, I'm currently using CleanROM ICSE 3.7, and it's has okay battery life, but I think it could be better. Any suggestions?
Nils' Business ICS 3.4 has amazing battery life.
I'd start there. I try pretty much any ROM that looks interesting, but I find I always come back to Nils. His last 2 updates have focused on improved battery life, and they really do bring it.

what kind of results you get? usually massively debloated like CR dev edit does it for me....less system apps sucking on cpu
use the "thanks" if I helped you at all
In my (very) limited experience, the kernel has far more affect on battery life than the ROM. Been using CleanRom 4.3 with the stock kernel, battery life is quite good compared to my GNex which I ditched after 5 days
RezROM 3.3 and the newest CleanROM Developer Edition have done the best for me, also check out the Kang Tapped Edition of CleanROM DE, same thing basically with some tweaks, it's my daily driver currently.
Cleanrom DE (nonsense) has been on my Rezound for a day, and its yielding pretty decent results. Got about 7 to 8 hours of moderate use yesterday (I work at Target Mobile - use it for work/messing around with it). I text back and forth consistently, as well as taking multiple calls - one yesterday up to an hour long. I left work with a 17%, when I walked in with 89%. LTE on, auto-brightness. I also am using ROM Toolbox to change clock speeds, I have profiles for multiple scenarios - that helps battery life as well. The only thing I had off was autosync, I'll open up FB or Gmail to update. Oh and I played music in the car both to and from work (20 minutes each way - regular music player).
I obviously want a little more time with it, but from when I had cleanrom (with sense) it seemed cut in half (sense is pretty and all, but she just eats your battery - with flashy graphics and auto updating everything).
bamf 2.1 ics gr8 battery...16 hrs
moderate use
awesome rom

So as usual, our device has many fantastic ROMs available and before I continue, I wanna thank every awesome developer that takes the time out to work on them and make users that much happier with their SGSIII's.
With that said, I've been trying a few JB AOSP/AOKP ROMS and I wanted to get some user input on two particular ROMs (though you can mention any other ROM as well if you wish).
I've personally really enjoyed using ResurrectionRemix 3.x.x and FoxHound 1.x.
I wanted to know what your experiences have been with these two ROMS (in comparison to eachother). Pros/Cons, general comments, etc...
The things im looking at are Battery Life, Consistent Performance, Buggieness, and overall satisfaction.
Any comments would be appreciated! =D
Thanks!
PS.: Please also mention the kernel u used when running each ROM, for the sake of thouroughness.
I'm using RR and running Siyah latest dual boot 1.7RC kernel
I would like to say that I experience Good battery with WiFi or data On for nearly 12 hours and I could get 15% or less battery left at the end of the day. With heavy usage I forgot. This ROM is very smooth for me and I experience no lag.
I have not tried FH ROM thou.

Yeah that sounds roughly the same that i've been getting with RR and Siyah 1.7rc1. Although sometimes it would be more like 19 Hours of normal-medium usage, and sometimes it would be 10 hours for same usage. Sometimes it feels a little like it has its own temperaments. lol.
Stefan, I realize you are just asking for user input, but this is basically asking which rom/kernel combo is the best. Which comes down to this:

Question for anyone using non-TW roms, how do you find battery life compared to TW roms?
I had to use Hyperdrive for a week or so for ISIS, and was surprised at the difference in battery life compared to the GPE rom. It seemed to last about twice as long. Switched to SlimKat and get about the same on it as on the GPE. I use Greenify, battery graphs are smooth, main difference looks like Android OS/System showing a higher percent.
Used KT's kernel with all of the above.
I'm expecting to be able to go at least 4-7 days without charging if I don't use it much, which was definitely possible on a stock TW-MK2 S4 and this one with Hyperdrive. This site says the S4 should be able to get 13-20 days standby time, has anyone ever actually gotten that?
Problem is, really can't stand TouchWiz.
TL;DR - Question: How long is your battery life on non-TW roms vs TW roms? Which non-TW rom have you found to be best for battery life?
Edit:
Meant to link "this site" to http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Galaxy-S4_id7597
Not for me
I always had horrendous battery life with the kitkat ROMs I used back in fall of last year. Dead by 5 pm and now I get until about 1 am with my Moto X. That's pretty impressive though
I'm currently runnish Hyper drive and I get great battery life. will take off the charger at 9 am and will last till I get home at 3 am the next day. with the stock rom though it was terrible haven't tried running another rom on this s4 yet.
I read some comments that they used to get 8-9hrs of SOT, some said they could manage to get 10 or more hours on SOT, so ive been thinking on creating thread to get some info on what version of miui is the best for battery backup, ive used miui7 and yeah i got 8hrs of SOT back then, miui8 is pretty fast on battery drain, so can i have something on you guys? what version is good on battery backup?
I don't think there's a simple answer to your question. Everyone's use of the phone is different.
Playing games uses more battery than browsing or watching YouTube.
4G uses more battery than 3G.
3G uses more battery than WiFi.
Bad mobile signal uses more battery than good signal.
Setting the brightness higher uses more battery than setting it low.
Overclocking uses more battery than running at stock speed.
MIUI 8 uses more battery than MIUI 7.
So there is really no way to objectively compare SOT between users.
I never managed to empty the battery of my phone in one day, no matter what I was doing.
And as long as you come home in the evening and still have battery left, you shouldn't worry about other people's screen on times.
But do you even need to use MIUI? I have used both MIUI 7 and 8, for many months and I used to think that the user experience was pretty great till I installed an Android 7 rom here from XDA, Slim 7. Only then I understood what a great experience this phone can offer. I have been using Nitrogen OS for close to two months now, and not only does it have all the customization options I need, my phone is smooth as a flagship and I get 10-11 hours of screen on time regularly, with heavy use.
You could use a Marshmallow ROM if you really need a perfectly stable camera, but the camera works 9 out of 10 times anyway.
Custom ROMs are better in every way than MIUI.
Now im on miui7.5.30 battery back up is pretty good. I love aosp based rom but suddenly my fp breaks on NOs, dont know why, since then i get bootloop when i installed custom roms so i settled now in miui
I love aosp to but alarm dont work when turn off phone. And that is important to me.
