search hasnt been working lately, i myself keep getting the gif of the cat reading.
I would like to second the OP question, i think its time for me to root also....
Check the sticky roll-up thread in development to get the basics (the basics never change), then if if you have specific questions, it will be a lot easier to give direction.

Maybe I missed something, but why do you think that's out of order?
You can't flash an alternate recovery until you have unlocked the bootloader. You can't root without a custom recovery. You can't get S-OFF unless you're already rooted with a custom recovery and an unlocked bootloader. So, it would seem to me the proper order is:
1. Unlock the bootloader (via htc dev site).
2. Flash a custom recovery such as Amon Ra, TWRP or Clockworkmod Touch (I prefer the first; Flyhalf has done a decent job porting the other two).
3. Get S-OFF via the Juopunut technique.
Recognize that each of these steps may erase your data and/or your sdcard, so read instructions CAREFULLY. They are meticulously spelled out so that you don't make a mistake. For instance, you need a different sdcard to do the S-OFF trick. If you use the sdcard you usually use, you will erase it. IMost mistakes that arise are from users who don't pay attention somewhere along the way.
Links to all of these things are very easy to find on in the Development Forum, the first sticky roll-up thread. And, yes, you ought to use search....liberally.

Regarding the 2nd step. I suggest flashing Cleanrom before attempting to s-off. Will get you acquainted with the s-on techniques used even before hand. Trust me both s-on & s-off have their advantages over one another. Then you can use CleanRom to obtain s-off as one of the prerequisites is a rooted rom with an unsecured boot(which it has).
I should never have flashed my Evo 3D. I had no experience, but a buddy of mine talked me into it. It worked fine for a good while, but now...it just reboots itself randomly, and then freezes during the boot screen. I have to pull the battery to reset. I also can't use TONS of apps that I'd really like to have. Smart Glass, My Xbox 360, Bad Piggies, etc...
Anyway, I don't even know what H-Boot is, or what version I'm on. This is all the info I have...
Android Version: 2,3,4
HTC Sense Version: 3.0
Software Number: 2.08.651.2
MOD Version: InfectedROM_Synergy-3dvo_RLS-1 (NIGHTLY)
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.13-ck3+
All I want to do is go back to a stock Sprint ROM. I'd like to get the latest OTA if possible. I tried that as well, but it just searches forever. I let it go overnight once, and woke up 9 hrs later, and the thingy was still spinning.
Anyway... Any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED! This thing is driving me crazy. I'll be getting a Note II soon, but I can't take this ROM anymore,
-B
EDIT: Almost forgot... It isn't that I haven't tried anything. I grabbed a Stock ROM off of PPCGeeks, and connected my 3vo to my laptop. I ran the .exe, but it said it failed. I also got a different ROM, put it on the ROOT of my SD Card, navigated to the .zip in Recovery, and initiated a flash. Every attempt ended with the phone rebooting with the same old Synergy ROM. Once booted, I got a bunch of pop-up messages saying that various programs weren't able to run, or something like that. However, these programs included Sense, Phone, etc...

Follow this guide through Step1 and you will be 100% stock on the current Sprint ICS ROM. If any of the apps you want to run require root then you can complete Step2 as well. Since Step3 is for gaining S-OFF I doubt that you would need to do that in your situation.

THANKS! I'll give it a shot, and report back. I REALLY appreciate the help, good sir.
UPDATE: Yup...this is exactly what I did last night. All that happens is that it tells me it failed, and then reboots back to how it was. I just read a troubleshooting section, and it says to check if the bootloader is unlocked, and that if it is (via HTCDev) that it will stop this method from working. I'm pretty sure this is what's messing this up for me. However, they give no explanation as to how someone can change this. I don't even know where to look to make sure it's locked...

The command you need to lock the bootloader is in Step1 of the guide:
fastboot oem lock
Maker sure you read the section(s) of the guide you are planning to use carefully and follow them as they are written.

Wow... Sorry. lol I don't know how I missed that. How do I run this oem tthing? The guide says I should know how to do this, but I unlocked this thing well over a year ago, and only did it once. I just tried reading a tut, but it doesn't even say how to do this, and it also says that if it isn't done correctly, it will brick my phone. He says there is never a reason to go back to 'stock'. Not sure what all that is about. Do I need to download another file for this?

Well, the thing is... I understand everything but re-locking this boot loader. That's all I have to do for this to work, but I just don't understand that thread at all. It's just gibberish to me. I mean, is it a program I have to use? Do I type something in? IDK... That thread is pretty hard to understand if you have no knowledge of this stuff.
I found this: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/9322-how-to-relocked-hboot-htc-root-method/ ...but it doesn't do anything when I type in the cmd.
Mogul, you could find a stock rooted Rom that would be essentially the same thing as returning to stock without having to relock. I'm sure RamJet will have a link as I'm at a restaurant ignoring my girlfriend.

He wants ota updates.
He won't be able to take OTA updates from sprint if he don't relock.
@op
You need to download the rootevo3dnew.zip attached in the link you posted above. Then extract it somewhere. If you are using win xp open cmd and navigate to that folder in cmd. If you are using newer version of windows then hold shift and right click the folder which you just extracted and click "open command window here." and then connect phone in fastboot mode and type the "fastboot oem lock". Then reboot the bootloader, you will re locked instead of unlocked at the top. Now you can run the ruu.
Or hit me up on gtalk when you have 20-30 mins time, i will guide you.
Hello,
I've tried a large number of fixes I've read and can't seem to find resolution.
I'm trying to get to S-OFF and have been unsuccessful so far.
Here's what I've done so far:
I've done the RevOne 0.2.1 method (with SU access) both on phone terminal and Command Prompt. It results in -6 error when I perform the command "./revone -P" (the only time I got further was when I gave removing the -P a try, but since I'm still at S-ON I know that wasn't the right thing)
I verified that all my drivers are up to date. I also had to do some modifications to get my phone to recognize adb, bu I was eventually successful with that
My device had been encrypted, I thought for sure that was the problem, so I did a total wipe, removing the encryption, and repeated all above steps. Still in S-ON
I did Moonshine, it took 5-10 minutes to run but gave me no errors. It seemed to complete successfully, but I'm still showing S-ON
Attempted the RevOne method again and now getting error 2. Followed instructions I found about restarting, still getting error 2.
My phone is on the 1.44 HBOOT, and is bootloader unlocked with SuperUser Access
I've tried searching as much as I can before asking, but I'm out ideas.
VMey
I just got an insurance replacement for one of my phones. It came shipped with the .11 firmware. The hboot is still 1.44. Here are the steps I've tried so far.
1. Revone against stock unrooted - results in error -6
2. Revone against stock after HTC Dev Unlock and root - results in error -6
3. Revone against Mike1986's Android Revolution 9.4 (His last rom that was based on 4.2.1, the last build that included the wifi calling bits) - results in error -6
4. Revone against stock rooted .8 rom that I found here. Also results in error -6
I'm out of ideas. Keep getting this error -6. It's not teh end of the world I suppose, as I prefer using the T-Mo firmware with whichever roms I fly, but I hate that I cannot flash what I want on this thing. Anyone have any ideas?
Same boat, 1.44HBOOT and non stop error -6. Rooted/unlocked bootloader, 4.1.2. "Vastly reduce the error -6 probability" my ass
Have you guys tried using the revone file from the link in the first post? I downloaded that one straight to my phone, moved it to /data/local/tmp using RootExplorer, and followed instructions from step 2. The first time I tried I got the error 6 code or whatever, but it also said to reboot so I rebooted and tried again and it worked. Just a thought since you said you were using revone0.2.1
If it came with .11 it was patched. Even hboot 1.44 doesn't always work as .11 still has 1.44 hboot. If it was shipped with or was updated to .11 then it has been patched

First, it's a forum entry not an article and again, work and links to banned members are NOT allowed to be posted on XDA. To get the goods you must find his thread elsewhere, however, there is a DISCUSSION ONLY thread in the general section of our forum. Further, you really didn't look very hard at all because I just searched his name on rootzwiki (knowing the downgrade has NOT been removed) and it's the very first entry that comes up. Also a simple Google search of "rootzwiki xboarder56 " produced the thread link as well. It drives me nuts when people say they've searched and can't find it, yet I found it two ways for you in no time at all. Some search. Let me Google that for you

Hello all! I had just gotten the update for my Droid DNA device yesterday and in my opinion, it's just, alright. Not something crazy for me. However, right after getting the update I had discovered an early access S-OFF method titled, revone. It is apart of this thread right here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314706 . Now, upon going through the tutorial I had of course ran into a problem and cannot report it over on that forum as I am new to this forum as a user with a new account, not a visitor as I had frequently visited this site before but now am a new user here and needed help asap. I have the sdk installed along with everything I need to use cmd and push that revone.dna file into my device. My phone IS NOT ROOTED and IS NOT UNLOCKED . This has been on my mind when I had recieved an access denied error for doing the command : ./revone.dna -P . The publisher of the thread that released this revone mod states, " fail to work everytime or in all cases or on different carrier ROMs - LET US KNOW if you get repeated failure on carrier variants". I plan on contacting them, but I just wanted to know if revone being in early access is causing this problem of not giving me access to S-OFF my DNA or if it is another issue. Thank you in advance!

You don't need to be rooted to do this. The purpose of RumRunner is to S-Off your device, unlock the bootloader, and root it.
Make sure you have all the prerequisites and follow the instructions on the instructions page exactly. If you still need support I suggest posting in the rumrunner thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559232
In order to see S Off you need to reboot your phone and hold volume button down to go to the bootloader page. At the top of the screen will say if you are S Off or On.

Ok well I revisited the rumrunner website and I realized that I was using the HTC universal tool to attempt the S-OFF process and not the Device specific tool for my DNA device (dlx). Is that the reason why access was denied for me to S-OFF my device? Now I understand from you that the tool is supposed to root the device, but what confused me A LOT was the access denied error I got from the tool. Was it due to me using the HTC universal tool and not my device specific tool?

Yes. The universal tool expects root access, and is followed by the disclaimer "Devices that cannot obtain normal root/bootloader unlock (e.g. Verizon HTC one) will still need to use the custom downloads specific to the device an mainver."

I will give it a try tonight but thank you very much for clarifying this I was being careless yesterday and was not reading everything that the website stated in the downloads section.
I would like to start out with saying that I am not new to rooting/roms but a lot has changed since I went to iOS. I have TWRP accessible and I can push files to my /sdcard/
I have tried several rooms but all of them fail to install.
Can someone please tell me the steps I need to take to go back to either stock or have another ROM working? (RUU fails as well, however it does detect the phone)
Any help is appreciated and trust me I spent hours reading threads so not just posting this for an easy way out.

First, this should probably be in the Q&A section
Second, gonna need WAY more info about your phone. I assume you're rooted? S-off or S-on? What hboot version are you on? What version of TWRP are you currently using? What ROM are you on now? What RUU are you trying to use? Gonna have to give a little bit for us to work with.
Edit: Your signature also says you have the Evo Shift? Are you on the write forum?

Is your goal to flash another ROM or to go back to stock?
If you're going to be trying to flash another ROM I'd highly recommend running rumrunner and getting s-off. Otherwise there are a lot of hoops you'll need to jump through in order to flash ROMs (for starters, you'll need to flash the kernel separately).

Whichever one is faster, I just want the phone up and running again.
So it's not running at all now? I'm assuming you can boot into bootloader and recovery but nothing else, right? You can run an RUU while in fastboot if I recall, which will give you at least a usable phone. That's also probably the fastest thing to do.
After that I'd highly recommend using rumrunner to get s-off. Otherwise flashing new ROMs will be a bear.
