I have ordered a Zenithink ZT-180-102A and plan to use it to view sheet music for the band I play in, and turn the pages with a USB foot switch that sends a PgDn key to Acrobat Reader.
Has anyone tried this before? Any gotchas?
I would think that the tablet will be (just) big enough to view A4 PDF sheet music at 10.1" (would have preferred slightly bigger)
I'm hoping Adobe Acrobat Reader for Android can go full screen and respond to PgDn messages
Battery life seems a bit light, but figure I can run it from the power adapter if required
Hopefully no outside gigs, as I don't know how well the screen would work in sunlight
If I'm reading the foot switch description right, I can configure the key press via the software on a Windows machine, then plug it directly into the Zenithink as a standard HID device. Anyone tried anything like this?

Hi, did you get this set up yet? I was looking at something similar for my band. Does the ZT180 have usb slot in it for the foot switch?
Yeah - that particular tablet is pretty iffy in build quality and design. I posted some details on it here.
The main limitation is the screen size for displaying A4/Letter. Since it's a 16:9 (or 16:10?) ratio, you get black bars at the top and bottom if you display the full page, so it's more like A5 size. For most of my music that is readable, but not ideal.
In landscape the size is about right, but you can only see half the page at a time.
The Adobe Reader software lets you do Cntl-N to move to the next page (dunno why PgDn doesn't work). The cheap footswitch I got of eBay works fine (you set it up once with some Windows software and then plug it into the USB port of the tablet)
I've ordered a 3 pedal one to try though, (cheaper than the 2 pedal ones strangely) so I can do Forward/Backwards, a maybe some sort of Scroll with the middle switch if I have it in landscape mode.
A proper A4 one would be nice though. I think I would actually take an eInk based one in preference - if I could find a reasonably priced A4 one - as the battery life would be so much better. Or maybe a Windows tablet so I could also run GuitarRig or similar for FX/MIDI stuff at the same time. Still thinking about it though. Let us know how you go.
Any update?
I would love to hear how this is going.
I am planning on getting a tablet for guitar music and would love foot pedal options.
Any suggestions? Tablets, apps, pedals etc...
I haven't used it much to be honest. The screen is a bit small, esp at 16:9 ratio for A4/Letter sheet music. The pedal idea works pretty well though, I'm using on my Thinkpad (sitting on it's side on a a music stand) for now.
I'll revisit when some genius invents a tablet which is greater than 10.2", and when a decent build quality model with Gingerbread is out.
I have to admit I'm slightly tempted with the 14" (?) EEE Windows slate that has come out recently. I think it's an i5 or so, and this would allow me to run guitar rig etc while viewing sheet music.
I purchased a Viewsonic G tablet for this very same purpose. I can read my music using Adobe in the Portrait mode ok but I would like to put it in landscape mode and use my cicada by page flip foot pedal to do a page up and page down. Have you come across anyone who can remap the keyboard to recognize page up and page down or as you have found out control N for page down.
I got my Gtablet a few weeks ago and have been playing with a few apps.
Chord Reader (pretty much just a phone), eSongBook and GuitarTapp
The each have nice features but I really need a combination of the three. I don't own a foot pedal but would like to have that feature and hear how that is working for other people.
Features I would like:
1. Change keys
2. Make setlists
3. Nice, big display
How are people mounting this for a stand? Or do you just set it on a music stand?
Best rig would be with a 13 inch macbook I believe. Check out Modbook http://www.axiotron.com/index.php?id=modbook
New Sheet Music Reader: MobileSheets
For anyone that happens to come to this thread looking for information, I recently released an android sheet music reader app called MobileSheets. It's currently only available for 10'' tablets. The app is designed to let you take images or PDFs you have (either from scanning, taking a picture with the tablet camera, or from files obtained on the internet) and create songs from them. You can organize your library based on album, artist, and genre, and create setlists. It also comes with a built-in metronome, and companion app for your PC. Please check out zubersoft.com/mobilesheets for more information.
One of the best reasons to get a tablet ever! How does the footswitch work?
An update is coming out this Sunday, Dec 4th that's going to add support for any bluetooth pedal for hands-free playback. Examples of supported bluetooth pedals include the Cicada PageFlip and the Airturn BT-105. I'm going to start offering a deal soon where if you buy the Airturn BT-105 through a link on zubersoft.com/mobilesheets, you will be given a free copy of the paid version of MobileSheets.
As for how the pedal works, the previously mentioned devices have two pedals. My app supports multiple modes - the default mode is the left pedal goes back one page, the right pedal advances a page. Another mode is the left pedal scrolls the page while the right advances to the next page (great for landscape mode). Once you try hands-free page turning, you will never want to go back
hmmh... this seems to be just what i was looking for... i am planning on going completely digitla on my students, as in: have 'em watch their sheetmusic on the tablet in lesson (in this case motorola xoom), then afterwards send 'em the sheets for them to print out by themselves. i'm just sick of lugging 10+ kg of sheetmusic around all day actually i was planning on buying an inexpensive printer and hook it up to the zablet via usb, wifi or bluetooth and print the stuff for them on site, but as there's no pc or router nearby and usb doesn't semm to work either, i settled for the paperless approach (which does have it's pros and cons).
one thing i'd like to know about your program though: i've got several realbooks in pdf form that i'd like to use, each containing around 2-300 songs on about as much pages. how would i go about organizing those? simply bookmark each song seperately? or would i have to split the huge single pdf into small, single ones?

I use ezPDF viewer. (available on Android Market) It allows me to use my foot switch (cicada page flip) and allows me to mark my .pdf sheets with notes for corrections or whatever. I agree with a previous poster, once you use a foot switch you won't want to go back. I am in a JAM that has about 500 songs. It took two 3 inch binders to carry them every night. Well we have now converted 16 of the 21 members to electronic viewers. It is the only way to go.
As far as organizing my folders I simply created 26 folders labeled "A" to "Z". Then every time I add a new song I simply put it in the appropriate folder. You can leave them all in one giant folder but it takes longer to find the song you want later. I found a little pain up front saved a lot of pain later.
Enjoy
do you mark your pdf's using a pen? if so, which one? if not - how DO you do it? that's one thing i would be missing in a purely digital surrounding, being able to mark up certain things etc. i don't think i'm going to have much need for a footswitch in a teaching situation, though, and as far as gigs are concerned, i play mainly jazz, and most of the leadsheets i get are a page long. if not - tough luck, i'll play better from memory anyway ;-)
the folder a to z folder-approach seems absolutely feasible, i'd probably go even more ballistic and create several mainfolders (like fingerpicking, theory, leadsheets etc), then have the a to z folders inside those. something like that. i'm more worried though that my students will be turned off by not getting physical handouts anymore. may take them a while to get used to it

OK first I would recommend looking at ezpdf on the android market. The developer has been very quick to make certain changes. I can say that the program has really improved 800 % over the past 4 months I have been using it. The developer updates the product about every 4 days. New features and bug fixes. Granted I don't use all of it's features but I think it is better than Adobe. I tried to embed a copy of the annotations page but I could not so go here "https://market.android.com/details?id=udk.android.reader&hl=en"
Pen - I do use a pen/pointer to write on my pdf's. I use the boxwave products as they were rated the best and most reliable on a capacitive screen. I have bought others but I keep coming back to the boxwave products. I even have one with an actual writing pen on the other side of it so I can take paper notes if I have to.
Folders - I do the same thing with my music folders. I have it broken out to Christmas music A - Z, Our Regular Music A - Z, Then stuff that I am practicing for my self A - Z.
Sheet Music - If you are going to stick to one page and you are young enough to be able to see clearly then forget the foot pedal. It is just one more thing to have to carry. I am 60, the old eyes are not as sharp as they used to be.
Students - I don't know how you are planning on giving them the files or where you teach, ( private classes, class room setting, high school etc) But - Hey when I was learning (still am) I would have loved it if the instructor gave me a downloadable file with all of my music for the semester. Then I could either print it or put it on a tablet. My choice. Most parents today think that if they don't buy their kids the latest gizmo they will be stunted or social outcasts, so I bet most of your students already have tablets.
Another thought - Another thing to keep in mind. My buddy teaches banjo. He was going to get a tablet for himself then we talked and he decided to get a tablet and a notebook and a projector. He then calls up the sheet music on his laptop and projects it on the screen for the class of 6 students. He uses the tablet for private instruction with out the projector.
Hope that helps.
Really take a look at ezpdf
Hello -
My solution to this problem was:
1. Scan in all my sheet music as high resolution files (300 or higher).
2. Use a photoshop technique on each image to eliminate grey and make sure the blacks are black and the white background is white - (there is a great way to do this with the eyedropper tool which you can find on youtube). At this stage I also straighten the image of each page.
3. Use a photoshop action to import the individual scanned image of each page as 'layers' on a single photoshop document --- and then save as a photoshop document.
4. Use a photoshop action to stack each photoshop layer (on a given document from step 4) out in a long continuous sheet of music and then flatten the image and save as a bitmap (so now the image would look like a flat, opened out, long, scroll).
5. Use a photoshop action to set the canvas size the correct dimensions and dpi for your given display/tablet.
6. Manually open each 'scroll' and move around the systems of your music to fit in the window you have made in step 5 ---- and save each window as a high res jpeg. Save the jpeg as the name of the piece followed by the page number.
7. Use a photoshop action to add a text layer of the same value as the file name. Save as a pdf.
8. Combine the individual pdf pages into a single pdf document for each individual piece.
9. All done. I now have 3 hours of music as PDFs that are perfectly viewable in my tablet AND can be searched for using the find feature of the PDF reader (thanks to step 7). What could be easier!

The lenovo A4 size tablet is an ugly looking brick - I wouldn't like that compared with this ipad solution
Fakebook
For many of the above reasons my favorite gigging tool is the Fakebook. It does PDF very well (even importing and indexing huge collections like a real book or vocal book), but at the same time it has thousands of built in chord charts (transposable). Nice annotation or scribbling, search, links to YouTube and Spotify performances and great playlist editing.
Best $1.50 spent on my Google Play account! play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skrivarna.fakebook.android
The Adobe Reader software lets you do Cntl-N to move to the next page (dunno why PgDn doesn't work). [/QUOTE said:

So I've been having a blast obsessing over my NT. I find that I actually like the stock Home for reading & browsing books, pdfs & comic book archives. These are some quick observations:
Sideloading via USB to My Files... will use the "reserved for B&N" space.
Any compatible formats will show up in the Library, Home Screen & the Daily Shelf if they're side loaded via USB. But if they're transferred over a network, using ES File Explorer, they won't. You can still find them through search, or browsing through "my stuff" in Library. I'm wondering if there is a way to "refresh" the Library, so they know they're there, as is done when transferred via USB.
PDFs: Covers don't appear. Titles & Author will be displayed if the info is available. I used PDF-Xchange Viewer to edit Title & Author in unlocked PDFs. Cover art does NOT display, which doesn't make sense because they work with CBZ.
CBZs: Comic Book Archives that are ZIP work really well. I used a batch script that I found here: http://www.advogato.org/person/AlanHorkan/diary.html?start=363 to convert all CBRs to CBZs. It's way quicker than manually converting. The first page will show up as cover art, which is really cool.
epub: Some, obviously, are better produced than others. If there is cover art, it'll show up. If not Title & Author will be displayed over the generic icon if it's available. I was able to edit (add) that information in FBreader (a super simple windows epub reader.) I wish there was just as simple way to add cover art.

Thanks for your observations. Its good to know sideloading will go into the B&N space rather than the 1Gb of space. Now I know you are doing it for books etc - but can you tell us if sideloading mp3s and say a movie file will do the same and go into the reserved space? Please try it out and let us know.
Its a shame that the covers of PDFs dont show. Thats kind of a bummer. I don't even understand why that wouldn't just work by default. Is there somewhere official we can go to complain about that so they might fix it? I want to throw lots of pdfs on there and hope to see the covers!
PDFs are legit and supported files, so it wouldn't hurt to comment or suggest that the stock home support PDF covers.
The stock library or home page does not display videos as far as I can tell. The way that media, like pics, music and video work they show up join the Media Gallery, which sucks. But again those are supported file formats, so it's something worth commenting and makings suggestions about. Email their support at [email protected]
I second the notion that cbz work very well on the NT.
Though the lack of some features that actual dedicated comic reader apps offer is really evident when you're stuck with the stock viewer.
Double pages are often shrunken down onto one page, you can't automatically advance to the next comic, you can't create shelves within shelves so you can organize your comic series, etc.
It'll do in a pinch, but the stock reader will never replace stuff like comic reader mobi and perfect viewer. If only those would show up in the B&N app store and become "official."

Download calibre. It is a free program for windows (maybe mac too..dunno) that you can add/edit any information for the epub books and convert from/to most formats. I have a lot of mobi ebooks that I have converted to epub and added the cover art and it shows in the stock library. It also has a nifty search program that automatically searches for cover art from multiple sources.

Could you or anyone please explain this in detail for a noob?
You're saying this uses the 11GB of B&N "reserved" *hijacked* RAM, not the 1GB left for the user?
When I plug my rooted NT into my computer, the MyNOOK drive is mounted, but it's only 1GB. (Also my SD card mounts). Copying to My Files reduces the 1GB. So there must be more to 'sideloading via USB' than this, so what am I missing? Or is it just certain files and formats go to the B&N space?

So far the closest I've found is clicking 'Edit' in the My Shelves section- a list will pop up with media on either internal or SD card and let you individually select each item to add. Would be a real PITA with a large number of files though.
Thanks for the conversion to CBZ script. I was batch-extracting my .CBR files, zipping them, then changing the extension to .cbz but the script is obviously much faster for large collections.

Stock reader works great for RPG book PDFs. I've used files with sizes ranging from 1-2MB to upwards of 75MB (I've got all of DnD 3rd,3.5, and 4th ed and quite a bit of 2nd scanned and OCRed), and only very rarely notice lag, even when reading off of SD. Only real downside is the PDF cover problem that has existed since the NC. For me, it was enough of an annoyance that I started using Mantano Reader (the paid version) on my rooted NT until such time that it ever gets fixed, since it allows browsing by cover thumbnail.

I've loaded a few 60MB+ pdf files that I use for work. Paging through them is reasonably fast. The stock viewer has really clumsy navigation and bookmark controls though.
I'd rather use QuickPDF, but it has an issue where all the options are trapped under the status bar

I was reading on another post where someone turned off the status bar, accidently at first, but then liked it better that way.

Nook native reader chokes on some PDFs
I got my NT to be a universal ebook reader. It works great for that with Calibre.
The native PDF reader is good for selecting text passages, but it will choke and hang on certain PDF's that don't appear to handle text flow correctly. I get a PDF subscription to Monitoring Times, and I've run into that problem. The reader will hang, and then suddenly present you with two sentences of selected text smushedtogetherwithoutspaceslikethis.
The NT comes with QuickOffice Lite and you can read PDF's with it. I decided to buy the Pro version--I needed to be able to edit Word/Excel docs, and the PDF reader on QO Pro is quite a bit smoother. It's worth $7 bucks (and I can't stand Angry Birds anyway...)
I haven't yet found an upper limit for PDF size--a lot of files I have are scanned computer manuals from bitsavers.org, but I regularly read PDF's of 50-60 megs or more on the device.
Otherwise, it's a great first tablet. I had whole folders of PDF's, .mobi, Plucker, .doc and plain text files that just went right in, at least after I used Calibre to convert them.

Haha, yeah that was me. Unfortunately, this was specific only to GoLauncher. No way to turn it off in QuickPDF.
Fortunately, it doesn't matter; I got rid of the paid QuickOffice entirely. (I got it free from Amazon. I'm glad I didn't pay for it, because it sucked on the NT)
I've since found (thanks to someone here) that I prefer Mantano Reader Free. It's available straight from the market.
It has an awesome interface, it's own bookshelf, it generates/shows PDF covers, and it's blazing fast. It seems tablet aware; it only shows the status bar when you tap the bottom of the screen, and it's own menu is high enough not to get stuck behind it. I highly recommend it.

2nd this. Calibre is amazing. I use the 'Fetch News' feature to gather content from various sources, and it creates a perfectly formatted mini-magazine out of them. I was surprised when I attached my NT; Calibre recognized it as a Nook Tablet, and automatically copied my news 'digests' to My Files.

How did you get the items you sideloaded into the reserved space via USB?
When I copy files from my computer to "/media/my files/Books" they go into the 1gig space.
Are you sure they are in the 12gig reserved space? In which directory do you see them with root explorer?
I have the same experience.
I did not root my NT coz I am scared (noob here), so I am just sideloading.
Most of the ebooks I downloaded actually go to my library which means it uses the 11 or 12gb that BN reserved for "their" content.
I am not sure if this go to all other files but all the things I downloaded from the browser go to the MyFiles (Downloads) folder of the library, be it ebooks or apps. I haven't tried to download anything from the browser other than ebooks and apps at the moment.
I am using an mp3 download app from the market and the mp3s I downloaded from the app goes to the sd card...
You will load into My Files/Books. If it's on the main storage, this folder is in that 1G area. If you have a SD card, then it's on the SD card. SD card shows on your desktop as another drive.

I've been annoyed by this issue for a few months now, I think I might have made a little headway though.
I made a post on the nookdevelopers.zendest.com, where one user recommended dropping a PDF into an ePub since it's basically a Zip file. It took me awhile to learn the ePub format since it's a little more involved than just zipping the cover/pdf together.
My final product was a PDF w/ a cover, which showed up nicely on the Nook Tablet "Desktop"!! However now when I open the PDF (well, it's like an PDF/ePub hybrid now), it renders horribly, the page turns are slow, and if I navigate to any page past 80 or so it crashes. This blows my mind because the naked PDF works just fine in the reader app.
Here is a link the now unresponsive Zendesk post: Can't link yet
Here is the ePub/PDF & Cover I created: Can't link yet
Here is a link to the raw PDF: Can't link yet
(Until I can link, head over to the zendesk and search for 'pdf in epub with nook tablet', there are 2 different threads, the newest one has links to the PDF and ePub wrapped PDF I created)
I'm hoping this is a clue that will tip someone off to breaking this problem wide open.
Once the kinks are worked out, I can throw together an app to auto-wrap PDF's into ePubs. A complete bandaid to the problem, but since the Nook developers are asleep at the wheel, it's at least something.
So i want to make this pretty straight forward, I'm in college, I like to read my books on my tablet, I like to do all sorts of work on my tablet and until now I was a iLoser carrying around an iPad 2 which I had plenty of apps that I became accustomed too. That said, I now rock the Prime and the Galaxy SII skyrocket. I love android much more than crApple's ios. Can I get any student/professor/anybody that uses their fancy new hardware for work and the occasionally play to give me some great apps tips for the tablet? (first thing I downloaded was Evernote!)? Thanks a bunch! Perhaps if we get a bunch of suggestions we can make a section in the app's section for "school" or maybe "productivity" I also want to add that while I don't have the dock (yet) I will be purchasing one when I see it in stores. (whenever that is!)
*if everyone likes the idea of a productivity/school thread in the apps section I wouldn't mind making it and updating it.
(1) Android Office - The most complete office app I know. It's even got a spell checker.
(2) Ezpdf - best for hand write directly into your pdf files.
(3) Repligo - Best for opening very large pdf files. I use it to open and use regularly a pdf file that is 2000+ pages with lots of images. Renders pages instantly.
(4) Printershare - print through cloud print or through wireless.
(5) Writepad stylus - note taking app with palm rejection, meaning you can rest your hand on the screen and still be able to write. Can save your notes as pdf docs.
(6) Antipaper - Another note taking app that has palm rejection.
FYI, all of these apps were free at one point or other on amazon appstore.

Well, you could create your own folders. After you're done with a particular class, you could output the saved notes for that day as pdf and then store it in your own folder.
Or you could make several notebooks, one for each class, and then keep writing into the notebooks as if it's a paper notebook.
Added by edit.
Another idea is this. Just make blank pdf files or pdf files with lines and then use something like ezpdf or repligo to write directly into the pdf file.
Just a couple ideas.
The main idea is make due with what you have. Be creative. Don't just have a set of ideas of what you want and then get stumped when you can't do exactly what you want.
Oh yah it wouldn't be a big deal if I couldn't, just wanted to check if I was missing some way to do it.
If I can't make folders so long as I name them correctly it shouldnt be a problem since I can do a search for notebooks which should work out the same as a folder so long as my naming is good.
I should probably do the whole export and put in my own folders anyways as a just in case

I seem not be able to find it on any market.
You don´t happen to have a description/link, do you?
EDIT: I suppose you were talking about androffice, right?
In this case, I found it. But it looks like it doesn´t support .***x files, or does it?
Also it doesn´t support formulas in word documents, right?
Due to the nature of the lecture and slides it's best if I annotate/markup the slides themselves so Ive been using ezpdf, but I really like the ease of use and features of the stylus/handwriting, especially the zoom feature on antipaper (Ive seen this on some ipad pdf reader as well ). So are the any note taking apps that allow you to draw on pdfs, or any pdf reader/editors with more robust annotation/markup tools?

You can zoom in on your pdf in ezpdf (double tap, or two finger.... opposite of pinch) and do your annotations like that if you need to get closer for your notes.
And when you are zoomed in and have free hand annotations selected, you can use 2 fingers to scroll around even while still in annotation mode.
As for the repligo suggestion I personally found it not quite as nice for annotations because you have to do 3 taps just to start an annotation. Once to bring up menu's, once to select the menu, then again to select "draw freehand", where with ezpdf its just one click on the top bar and your going.
edit. If you are taking lots of notes off of powerpoint/pdf slides, check out this thread

With some help figured out how to add some extra blank space to the side of my slides for added room for notes (so the slide takes pretty well the whole screen and all of it is capable of annotating on.

Yeah I've tried all the apps mentioned in this thread, i was asking if there are any pdf annotation apps with the feature set of a stand alone hand writing app. I don't feel like ezpdf and repligo have the robust annotation features that i want.

yeah that's why I've been using ezpdf as of late, i especially Luke the fact that you can resize all the annotations after the fact. And thanks for the link

what about the stock supernote app? Also, you could try just saving extra blank PDFs to your TP with lines in them (ie lined paper), as someone else suggested.

How can you even use this? I've tried but trying to write small letters on this is impossible. All i get withthis program are small lines and dots.
I have been using SuperNote to write notes for my classes, and I have some problems with it...
Anyone know if there is anything I/we can do to get Asus to fix some bugs?
I would love to be able to get a bug report to them so that they can maybe provide us with some updates in regards to this.
Problems (I'll add more as I remember):
- Export Notes does not export the photos or annotations
- Page 63 is exported as page 64
- When typing on the very last line, the view keeps going up and down
- There are no special characters
- it does not support basic keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+C Ctrl+V Ctrl+A (Esenthel)
Might help if you told us what you think is wrong with it.
you could get a logcat while you're doing those things that screw up and send it to asus?
A logcat huh... never thought of that...
Although the thing is, I don't think sending an e-mail to support at asus dot com will do any good...
I was kinda hoping that there might be a better way than doing that...
I like the app, but these little bugs are a little bit silly... I'm not a developer, but I don't think it's too hard to fix these... right...?
For me what's most annoying is that it does not support basic keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+C Ctrl+V Ctrl+A, I do have the keyboard dock, so I'd like to use it for full advantage
Ah yeah... that is annoying... lemme edit the top list and add that on.
for me, honestly, super note was disappointing. i was expecting it to be so much better.
some fixes id suggest if any rep is here, or if we wanna compile:
1. the limit on a page is annoying. youll be writing something and then it wont let you go down anymore. i know its replica of a4 paper, however, i think itd be better if itd continue downwards, like in Microsoft word.
2. the pixelation that occurs when you create an annotation and resize it.
so annoying!
3. already discussed, but the fact that a stylus doesnt work makes things hard
this sort of interrelates with point 2 above, because...
i for example will want to draw a graph. now to precisely label it, i cant do it with my finger, nor a stylus. so i have to draw it HUGE using annotation, then resize it to make it smaller. then it pixelates!
4. no autocorrect or the ability to correct. it just comes up with red lines.
5. - no change in font.
6. the ability to interchange the page type would be nice, for example: lined paper to graph paper.
7. when doing math, usually, i'd draw a line down the middle of my page to divide the page in half and thus have more working space. i wish this functionality was possible in supernote. i.e. divide the page and have your own custom sections in which you can write.
8. the lack of colours. theres only like 4! - black, blue, red, green!
9. the inability to record and type at the same time. - that includes voice recorder, and video recorder.
i have to open up the sound recorder app and use that, - this way i cant actually insert the sound clip into my notes.
10. following on from the point above, the inability to insert things! cant insert sound files, movie files!
thats all i can think of atm.

All of this! Lol
And I hate that even when you readjust the page after filling it up, when you start typing the freaking thing jumps up and puts all your words at the bottom, even intermittently throwing them off the screen.
I would definitely like to either see them put more work into this app so it truly is super, or I'd like to see someone pick it apart and create a new one that works right.
I moved this thread to the "Themes and Apps" forum because, well it just fits better here
FreeNote is much better then Supernote.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zdWlzaG91eGllLmZyZWVub3RlIl0.
- U can write xx pages.
- u can export notes to many apps for ex evernote.
- u can save file as pdf or photo.
- handwriting, keyboard writting, Keyboard+hand writting, touch keyboard with many options,
- u can draw all u want - not only letters and u dont to create separate sheets. U can do all these things on one page!
- and a lot of more!
I loved the app when i saw it, and after trying to use it once i disabled it.
I mainly use tablets to write histories apart from the obvious email and websurfing.
It force closed on me on a very long test note i was writing and all was lost, tried again this time copying and pasting a long piece of text and bam force close again.
To be honest i deeply regret buying the TF700
i have tried everything so far to replace a real laptop and it has proven a big waste of money...
I guess my last resot would be to try the iPad but i can't do that to myself i am afraid i might like it

No it doesn't... Evernote works fine off line. It just waits to sync until you're connected, unless something has changed since the last time I used it.

I think that has more to do with the pen than Evernote. It sounds like the pen needs wifi. Is there an option to use bluetooth instead of wifi?
Sent from my SCH-R930 using xda app-developers app
No, not the pen, I transfered notes from the pen to evernotes, then tried to access the notes from evernotes and could not unless online
Yes, exactly. The pen uploads the notes to the Evernote cloud, so how would you be able to access them without the internet? Unless I'm misunderstanding you, this would be the problem regardless of what note app or service you use, unless the pen can somehow transfer the notes directly to the Prime. There is no service in the world that can access a cloud-based server without access to the internet.

1. Can I set the background to a default image?
2. Can I create and customize a set or "profile" for the different writing tips and colors? For example, if I like using a blue colored grid for working math problems, but a plan notebook paper background for literature (or something) could I create 2 sets or profiles to choose from so that it loads all my presets in the order I set up?
More to come as they come to me...
Thanks in advance.
3. can someone confirm that you can open two instances of snote to view to different notes at the same time?

Gina...to answer your questions...
1. Yes ... You can set the background as a default image
2. Yes ... You can have a blue bread for math problems if you like and yes you can have notebook paper for general text if you prefer both within the same notebook but different pages if you like. If that makes sense?
3. No... I think I answer this question for you yesterday but if not here's your answer again. No you cannot have two instances of s note opened at the same time. You can however have an instance of s note and lecture notes if you so prefer. I'm sure after the developers get ahold of the code they can modify it so you can have two instances of s notes running
I hope this answers your questions

First off THANKS! I appreciate the info. Secondly, I'm sorry, I worded my second question incorrectly. In the first gen model you can have a preset array of writing times in whatever color you want. That way you can just click the S-pen and cycle through the list you made. But I"m finding that a certain set of colors works better for different situations so i was wondering if I could create multiple sets of writing tips so I could have a set for math with pen tips colored to show up well against the blue grid etc.
As for the last one thanks for telling me again. When I heard that I was really REALLY bummed and almost decided not to get the note. I"m hold out hope that a dev will enable multiple instances of s-note or I may switch over to lecture notes completely. with the 25 good play credits I'm thinking I may get it. I like that you can modify the dimensions of the page. Also I've heard that it's a more powerful application all together and considering what i've heard of s-note so far i'm leaning more towards lecture notes.
One last question for anyone out there who knows.. Is it possible to quickly and easily transfer my files from snote to lecture notes while maintaing the tree structure?
Quick question for those who use SNote - does the new version allow you to import files directly from Dropbox or the Gallery instead of going straight to My Files?
Has anyone figured out how to import PDF files in the new version of S Note? I used to do this all of the time in the old version but can't find out how to do it in the latest version.

Wow I didn't even try to work with S Note long enough to realize importing PDF's was (seemingly) gone. I can't figure out how to do it and I wonder if it's at all possible anymore. I went ahead and got lecture notes and I'm actually much happier with it. I hate the new structure of s note... it seems like you can't create folders and view multiple folders and files like you could in the old one. It's a shame too cause I had a LOT of notes in them...
Found it!

To import pdf's into S-note:
-while on the start up screen, click on 'recent notes' in the top left corner
-when that opens, touch 'settings' button and select 'import'
-select from which location you want to import (my files, google drive etc) and what the file kind is (s notes or pdf)

I also would like to know if there is a way to set up presets in Snote. Seeing how the old SNote worked in the first 10.1, I was excited to get the 10.1 2014 Edition for that reason. But I can't even preset my eraser. Not happy about that.

The new s note is horrible imo. Cycling through presets no longer works and the UI isn't easy to work with. I'd really like to be able to create a tree structure of notebooks within folders. I switched to Lecture Notes. Functionally it's much better (than the old one at least. I haven't work in the new one enough to really make the claim).

I totally agree. I tried and tried to make myself like it but it's just not logically functional as what I experienced with my Note 2. Always admired the original 10.1's Snote.
Are you using the free version of Lecture Notes or the pro version? I've tried Lecture Notes and I've noticed the fluidity in that one is much more smooth which I appreciate. Just wanted to know what I would be gaining if I go the Pro version.
Pro version allows you to have more than 2 notebooks. Also, anyone know how to highlight text in lecture notes or import multiple pdfs at a time?

Hey guys this is kind of unrelated to the current discussion but, have any of you been able to use the screen recording function within s-note . I got it to work with the voice recording add-on (haven't purchased the video). If you zoom in during playback it will pan to what you were writing at the time you were talking/recording. Unfortunately it doesn't add text as you go, you start with the finished page and pan around.

To highlight text, I created a custom pencil with the color I wanted, a thick width and chose the 'pencil draws behind other colors option'.
Does anyone know how to take a note in s note in portrait to imitate a sheet of paper? I seem to only be able to do this if I import a pdf.
