Hey, first of all i would like to apologise if this is posted in the wrong section, its my first post and even though i have used XDA many many time, i have never really caught onto the posting side of it!
I recently obtained a Xperia Ray of a friend and it was running gingerbread, so first of all i updated to 4.0.4A and rooted my device, and then i installed busybox ect, then after looking at the service on the phone (*#*#7378423#*#*) i found out that my bootloader was Unlockable.
as i wished to install a custom ROM, i have been looking at custom ROM's for LockedBL's and then of course to install half of them i have had to install CWM but this is where my problem begins! i have not been able to successfully install CWM via various methods, including the X-Parts App, Xrecovery PC Application, can anybody help me?
Thanks in advance,
Liam
(Again i apologies if posted in the wrong place, dont shout, im a noob i know  )
I can't help you with your problem, but if your phone is built before 2012 week 11 (if I remember correctly) you can unlock it using the wotan service, despite the non unlockable status. You can check the build date on the sticker, below the battery.

Let me start by saying that there are other threads on this, I'm aware, but I have yet to find a solution. So I bought a sony ericsson xperia x10a around November, and I'm sick of waiting for a 2.1 update to hit the US, given that it probably never will. I wish to update my phone to android 2.1. Now, I've already rooted it. It is currently unrooted and back to blank slate, but I can root it again easily because I know how now. However, my problem is that to update it, I need to flash it right? So working through flashtools with the firmware .ftf I need/want I come across an interesting roadblock. I need to allow unsecure apps for it to work, apparently. This is a problem because it cannot be done with AT&T brand on the phone. So it looks like I need to debrand it. My question is how? trying to exploit the pccompanion/seus repair function to have it debrand with blob_fs does nto work as the helper redownloads the file and overwrites the changes, so those guides seem out of date. Now, I have read in other threads that you do not need to debrand, just run flashtools, if you dont need to debrand, then how do you allow unsecure apps as flashtools instructs? Do I just ignore that? If I ignore that then wont the apps needed for the firmware not be installed? Please dont don't condescend too much to me, I have read other threads but I cannot find an answer, if its there then I'm just stupid. But I would really like some help or explanations.
EDIT: Firmware is 1.6, Baseband is 1.1.32
I used flashtool tool on my phone when i got it back from the shop and it debranded it. So i can get any app i want. There is another way to debrand but it cost money but flashtool is much easier to use.
U asked some very good questions. I repeat u arent stupid. it took me months of studying these forums before i started the ROM stuff. Let me know if u need help with flashtool.

I have tried flashtool, but I am told to allow apps from unknown sources before continuing. Because I have a branded phone at that moment that is not an option available to me. Do I proceed anyways? Wont that just not put any apps on that I need, like android keyboard?
Hi heres a quick tutorial on what to do. This guy does many videos on flashing and such. He does a tutorial on the flashtool and other videos on how to rootand install important apps like xrecovery. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9_pFOxPJUY
go to that link. It should help you in updating your phone to 2.1. Also if you have any questions i'd be glad to help you. This tutorial and other videos from this guy have shown me everything i needed though.
Hello, I am very new to smartphones and I need some help about a few things. I tried to find some answers on the forums first before posting, but the amount of new information is quite staggering and I got confused in no time. If I missed any important information for newbs like me please direct me there. I do have good knowledge of PC and programming in general, but so far nothing at all about smartphones.
I have an unlocked Xperia x10a, not rooted, originally from Rogers in Canada now using Fido. I'm running Windows XP SP3 on my PC. I just found out that a month ago Sony Ericsson released a new android update for it that's 2.3.3, but mine is still 2.1.1 and PC Companion says there are no updates when I checked today. Does anyone know if it's officially available in Canada yet?
1. "Carrier-Free"
While I was reading the Sony Ericsson blog about the 2.3.3 upgrade, I noticed it mentioned that the device must be "carrier-free". Is this where "debranding" comes in? I found a link to a website about it:
An easy guide to debranding your handset
but most of the recent comments on there are saying it no longer works. The author made and update that mentioned another way of doing it entirely using the PC companion's "repair" function. Can anyone confirm if that's still a safe way to do it? If not, what's the most common and safest way to do it, and is it absolutely necessary for getting the upgrade?
2. "Flashing"
Is it harmful to my phone by any chance? I'd rather not touch it if there's a good chance that it will break my phone. My understanding so far is that if I want the update or to root my phone this is required? Is the Flashtool found HERE still safe to use today for updating to 2.3.3?
Sorry for the long post, but it's always better to be safe than sorry. Thanks in advance as I try to cram the beginner stuffs in.
Using flashtool is probably the best way for you to get Android 2.3 on your phone.
All you have to do is download and install flashtool on your computer.
There are a numerous number of guides on here that can help you.

Simplest way to do is root your phone using flashtool, then ask permission and install Xrecovery.
Then flash your decided custom 2.3.3 ROM via Xrecovery.
All you have to do is read, read all instructions related rooting 2.1 and flashing new rom on X10 android development carefully.
Just ask me if you need some help.

Yay the 2.3.3 update was released on PC companion today for my phone, so I guess no need to go through the flashing process now
But I guess I will still try to root the phone after the update finishes, so I can get rid of those annoy carrier-bundled apps that keeps running no matter how many times I try to stop them...
Hello guys, this is my first post in the forum, but I've been using CM for around 1 year... in the past with a Samsung Galaxy 5 and now with an Xperia Ray... I hope I can help out in many ways to the devs community.
I have some questions for you, as I'm a newbie with my Ray... I am reading and reading posts in XDA, and now I'm in a strange situation. I want to flash CM7 (hope CM9 soon) in my Ray, but since the Bootloader unlock allowed:NO message comes to my phone I feel very sad about it. I tried to boot into Fastboot, but the phone simply refuses to do it and only starts with the orange led and starts charging, but no Fastboot...
The first thing I tried was Root the Ray, and the I managed to do it with a simple tool (you can find the latest version here)
[Xperia 2011 Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit)] (can't post links yet)
Still my Bootloader is locked... so I think the CWM installation was impossible, later, I found this tool:
[SE Extreme Tweak Installer v1.8] (can't post links yet)
Then, I had installed CWM onto the Xperia Ray, without unlocking the Bootloader yet... (yes, it works at boot having the vol- key pressed as well) and yes, you can flash files (actually I modded some things on the original rom from CWM)...
The question is... Am I missing something to flash CM7/9??
Can I flash CM7/9 now??
Do you think this method will work for Xperia models??
Do you have any sugestions on this??
What if I don't unlock the bootloader and flash CM7/9??
My phone is operator locked, is this a problem to flash CM7/9??
If I flash the CM7/9 rom, will my phone be bricked??
My bootloader still says Bootloader unlock allowed: No :S. By the way, I do have a Xperia ST18a not a ST18i.
PD: I do not own any of those tools. I am only telling my method, so I you think this is a valuable information please says thanks to the developers above (and if you want, me too )

Any ideas on how to do it?.
I've tried the testpoint method, but no success... I simply can boot in fastboot. Does it matters if the phone is network locked?...

Your phone is sim locked. You have to get it unlocked so it can accept any sim 1st before you unlock bootloader. Then it will say Allowed yes

OK, so I will go to my operator and unlock it as well... they gave me the code, but it simply doesn't works, the said:
dial #987654321# and a menu will appear and you can enter the code there... NOTHING !!!
I'll talk to you guys when I have my phone unlocked...
Solved!
Hi guys, after 25 days my operator finally unlocked my phone (it looks like they locked the phone with 5 wrong codes... and have to do the magic on the SE Support Service). Then, that was easy... not the unlock bootloader with the wire trick (took me more than I expected) but now everything is ok!
I'm a proud owner of a CM9 Xperia ray!... anyway, do you know if the Xperia Ray supports USB-OTG?
Any thoughts with HDMI? mini HDMI? or MHL interface on the Xperia Ray?
Please let me know if you think I can help out with something... or If you have questions just ask and I'll do my best...
The USB port on the ray is not MHL
if the USB port on Ray is not MHL, so we don't have any options to export the Ray screen to any display/TV?. Even with the dock?
Hello, I recently got an Xperia P and decided to root it, I followed the advice here to root the phone:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2023756
Everything went fine, I then installed CWN Recovery located here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020895
And now wondering what ROM I should use for my phone, my bootloader is currently locked and is unable to be unlocked. Sorry kind of new to this, first Android and all.
Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I drunkly ran into the sea with my Nexus 5 in my pocket so that is long gone.
Next week I'm thinking about investing in an xperia z ultra, however I have seen and heard of many of the methods used to root it will capture your IMEI number and use it for malicious reasons.
I was looking at following this guide (presuming my phone software/firmware will even be compatible) and just want to clarify it works fine with no danger.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904
This is the link to the phone I'm looking at buying
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-Xper...68398?pt=UK_Mobile_Phones&hash=item35cff8fe2e
If I cannot root the phone, I will not be buying it as adblock is a must for me, and if xposed works then I'll be delighted also.
Can someone please help clear up my confusion?
Thanks!

That would work, or there is a dual recovery installer(CWM and TWRP)that you could use if you want recovery. Whichever you use let the phone update to .108 firmware then run it, if you unlock your bootloader be sure to back up your TA partition beforehand.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...de-root-android-4-4-4-ver-14-4-0-108-t2801587
As the ever helpful @adfurgerson said. EasyRoot is the best tool or [NUT]'s recovery installer. They both use the same exploit.
Any other questions just ask, after searching
Thanks guys :fingers-crossed:
For me the easiest one I use is the Dual Recovery installation files. It has an option to root and install dual recovery all in one.
I used Flashtool for rooting, few clicks and done.
Then i flashed dualrecovery and GPe ROM :good:
