[Solved] How to enable wireless media transfer to the computer? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to connect my Z2 to the computer wirelessly.
I connected to my toshiba laptop, Clicked "To transfer media files wirelessly, pair" on the phone,
and followed the instruction to setup Wireless Media Transfer.
Then I got the error when to pair network configuration, it says I cannot make the wireless connection
because I need to enable UPnP connection if firewalll is enable.
I have turn off the firewall, enable UPnP as suggested below, and checked my wireless router does support UPnP and is enabled.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enable-disable-network-discovery#1TC=windows-7
But I still can't use wireless media transfer. Does anyone how to solve this?
Thanks in advance.

Have anyone got this working?

Yes this works with my device - but I had no issues so not sure why yours isn't working..
Did you connect via USB first? I connected via USB and then the notification on the phone said "click here to go wireless" - I did that and now I can go into xperia connectivity and connect wirelessly at any time! Great for transferring files without hassle

Yes I have connected usb during the setup.
It think it must relate to my computer or router setting.

EDIT: Got it working.
Although my computer say it have problem with UPnP. It actually have setup successfully.
To get it connect. Settings>Xperia Connectivity > USB Connectivity > Under Wireless media transfer
Click your Compter name and connect. Done !

Does this work on a Mac?

I can't see Mac on the setup option, but it is no ham to give it a try.

The fix is correct wireless transfers are working.

Question regarding the modem functionality of the Str Trk (WM 6.1 PRO V2)

Hello,
i have a question regarding the modem functionality of the StrTrk under WM 6.1 Pro V2.
How can I share the Internet Connection of the phone to a Notebook?
(I already found the "Internet Sharing" shortcut but the question is what to do after...)
In order to find it out, i activated the Sharing through Bluetooth PAN. (On the telephone).
Now ist the the question what I have to do on my Notebook.
My Notebook displays me a Dial Up Connection and a Network Access Point Connection.
What I have to chose and what I have to enter on the Notebook then?
Is there anything to do with the telephone (except the sharing shortcut)?
Many Thanks for helpful answers!
No one for answer?
First off you will need to install active sync onto your laptop, then you will need a sync cable that will attach your phone to the USB port on your laptop. (bluetooth would be very hard to get working for this)
On your phone, start Internet sharing, and then select connect, after it says "Check USB cable connection", plug your phone into the sync cable that is plugged into your laptop.
The active sync will not try to sync but a new internet connection will be found by Windows XP.
Hope this helps
I have the same problem after I upgraded the ROM from HTC website. The upgraded ROM was still wm5. Now I upgrade the ROM from wm5 to wm6. The problem is still there. I checked the modem configuration in XP from control panel, but I can't find the modem device.
I also followed the advice here, but the screen of my phone just indicated "Check USB cable connection". I didn't get the instruction to connect the USB cable.
The upgrading was really nice for my phone except I can't use my phone as a modem. I do want to repair this problem.
Any idea?
Hello,
do you already installed active sync?
Another Problem:
I cant connect the phone through usb cable because the laptop is from the company where I work for. Iam not allowed to install any driver (On my own PC the Generic RNDIS is need to be installed). Is ist possible to have the modem functionality through Bluetooth without using Active Sync?
You don't need ActiveSync / Windows Mobile Device Center to use the Internet Sharing on WM6.
For connecting via USB, make sure you ActiveSync is disconnected and the USB cable is unplugged before you click Connect in Internet Sharing. When you receive the prompt for 'Check USB Cable Connection' plug the USB lead in again. Windows should now detect new hardware in form of a 'Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device' instead of the usual 'Smartphone USB Sync' and a new Local Area Connection should appear in Network Connections.
The Bluetooth PAN option depends on the Bluetooth Stack installed on Windows. If you have the default Microsoft Bluetooth Stack installed (Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista) you can go to Network Connections (on Vista open Network and Sharing Center and click Manage Network Connections below Tasks) and double click on the Bluetooth Network Connection icon. In the dialog that opens the phone's Bluetooth PAN Connection should be listed for you to Connect to.
That's it. You should be browsing the Internet via GPRS / EDGE.
I did install Activesync. Even I can see the remote rndis Internet device after I plug the usb cord to my laptop, the modem doesn't work. I also can't find the modem in the control panel for it.
Thanks, I connected my Cingular 3125 to my computer. The connection is a local connection as a Ethernet card instead of a dial connection. So I don't have to set up a modem driver for it.
Just in case I wasn't clear, you don't need ActiveSync for this to work, the functionality is done entirely separately.
There is no modem device any more, it's all done using a "Virtual" Local Area Network which you'll find listed in Network Connections.
You shouldn't need to configure anything, just plug in the USB cable and wait a few seconds. The phone should initiate a GPRS / EDGE connection automatically and you should then have access to The Internet.
If it doesn't, you may need to temporarily disable any other Local Area Connections (especially any that are used for Internet access) so that your PC is forced to use the one provided by the phone's virtual network connection.
Thanks, your explanation is very clear. The process is exactly like what you said.
StarTrek can be connected with Ubuntu as a Ethernet card now.
Please check "How To: Internet sharing on USB with Linux and Windows Mobile."

How to use HD2 to connect PC to wireless router?

Done a search and can't find the answer to this anywhere.
Recently moved house and just had my internet installed. My laptop doesnt have wireless and my GF has pinched the only wireless key we have. I don't have any CAT 5 or RJ45 to make a cable and was wondering if I can use my HD2 (plugged in via USB) to connect my PC to my wireless router? You may say 'why dont you just use internet sharing and connect via 3G?'... The simple answer to that is that we live in a signal blackspot and as such cannot get a mobile signal in my home.
How about:
1) turn HD2's wifi on and connect to router.
2) plug phone into computer and wait for active sync
3) use internet
Just make sure "allow data connections on device when connected to a PC" is enabled.
For XP - Right click the active sync icon in the notification bar and select connection settings. Or go to file > connection settings.
Vista/Win7 - In mobile device center, click mobile device settings > connection settings.

Internet via bluetooth

Does anyone know if it's possible to get internet from my computer to the vibrant via bluetooth? To be clear, I do NOT want 2G/3G on my computer, I want to share my LAN connection with my phone. I'm deployed to Iraq and I have a wired connection to my computer that I want to share with my phone. I've tried connectify and similar options but they don't seem to work. I've got XP and 7 on the laptop, so if there's an option for either it'll work.
Thanks in advance.
Using bluetooth would be slow. You'll want to create an adhoc wireless network on your computer. Here's how to in XP:

Edit: This is, if you have wireless on your computer.

Go to settings -> Wireless and network -> Tethering and portable hotspot -> Then select "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings" - From this you can set up a Wi-Fi network that uses your mobile internet.
Once you've set this up connect to the wireless network via your laptop and launch the app called "Kies air". From there you can transfer files without the need of the usb connector...
To use DLNA you need a wireless network, i wouldn't recommend using the portable Wi-Fi hotspot for it.
Thank you very much Stylee32 this helps
hope i will get my WiFi router soon
Edit: I tried this solution. Got my PC connected to Mobile. But the url which Kies Air gave didnt work
Edit 2: Finally it worked. Thank you so much
No problem at all, glad i could help

Wifi direct ... this is a feature supported by your phone (and some other devices), but if it is not supported by your PC, then it will be difficult to connect both devices directly.
As far as I know, both devices (PC and phone) need to support wifi direct.
Hmm ... your phone can be used as a WLAN hotspot with wifi tethering.
Then you can connect your PC to the phone, but I don't know how to transfer files, as tethering is usually used only to share mobile internet connection.
if you have problem with WiFi Direct try this:
1. turn off you WiFi network on the phone
2. Run Kies Air
3. When it asks you if to use WiFi or WiFi Router choose the latter (name of the network and password you may change in WiFi router settings)
4. Scan available networks on your laptop and connect
5. run web browser on your laptop and enter ip address given by Kies Air
6. allow access to your phone by confirming it on the phone
7. enjoy file exchange between two devices
