Hi Everyone!
I’m new to the rooting community and hoping to get some help with my new used phone that I bought off swappa. Here’s info on the phone:
Rooted Verizon S4, has Loki'd bootloader, currently running CyanogenMod 10.2-20131014-SKANK-jfltevzw, Android version 4.3.1.
I’ve been having problems with the 4G LTE signal / speed. I will get 1 to 2 bars and then drop to 1 bar of 3G when its in my pocket. Has anyone else run into this problem with CyanogenMod 10.2 ROM or on another ROM? Any suggestions on how to fix my LTE speed? I read somewhere to update the baseband radio or modems or APN???
I really appreciate any help and guidance you can give me.
Thanks!

Grab the NC5 Modem Only file and flash that in recovery and see if it gets any better. Some ROMs have had random data bugs too so if that doesn't help try updating to maybe a Kit Kat version of CM or Liquid Smooth even.

Sorry I'm a total noob, can you help with install instructions for the modem only file? Download it and put on my SD card or should I hook my phone up to the computer?
Thanks for the help!
read that thread and search on how to install a file. you will need a program for how to do it, search for that too
but anyway its your software, either get that file or a kit kat rom like mentioned so it fixes your issue

Just download the modem only file of you choice try NC5.
Doesn't matter where it's saved to on your phone right now. /SD Card/Download is where it'll be most likely.
Then hop into your recovery and just install that modem zip file like anything else you'd flash in recovery.
When it's done just reboot back into Android and you're good!!

Is there ANY WAY to get faster speeds on T-Mobile other than Edge (2G)?? I am looking for a custom ROM but am unsure which one to get that will help me..
Here are some of the "features" I would like to have in the ROM
UNBRANDED bootup logos
4G ability
Overclocked

You can get all of that with a gingerbread rom. Try the unofficial by the collective in the dev section. You'll have to look into some threads for flashing a tmo modem as I have AT$T and don't know much about it (also in the development section).
You can get all of that minus overclock with an ICS rom as well.

So a T-Mobile "modem" is what it is called for faster speeds?

Yes. Without a "T-Mobile" modem, you can only get EDGE data speed.
Ok. I am reading up on it now. I do not understand if I have to use a specific ROM with it or not. I am confused..lol.. ROM manager/CWM is having issues with the Note so I have to find ways around that AND to figure out which ROM to use that I can get the better modem speeds. ANY help is appreciated!

Hey Mate, I'm running my Note with T-Mobile here in Puerto Rico, and the problem that we've all is with the uploads speeds. For me, Saurom 7.1 with Blaze Modem is the better combo. Again, it depends of the area that you are. For example, yesterday, my download speed was 11mbps download and 2.5mbps uploads, today, 5-6mbps dl and 800kbps ul. All GB Roms are pretty stable.

If your using a ginerbread rom you flash a gingerbread modem...If your using a ICS rom, you flash a ICS modem....just use the search function and you will find links. The 4g is stable and is definitely a huge upgrade from Edge.

flashing a modem is exactly same as flashing a regular rom, i.e. same steps from the CMW

T-Mobile ICS Modems:

I am using the Blaze modem in So CA. D/l speeds in most areas are good/descent, but as everyone has mentioned u/l speeds maybe horrible (intermittently getting better in past 1-3 days).

Dude everything you need is in the dev section.
- look at saurom thread for files and instructions.
- look at tmobile modem thread for files and instructions.
Also, rom manager/CWM doesn't work with the note. You have to install braway's CWM recovery. (this is also in the dev section)

2.3.x is GB
I have tried BOTH of these files and can't seem to get anything better than MAYBE a 2mbps DL and .25mbps UL }
It won't let me upload them but the names are T-mo VLKI, and T-mo KID
Ok got a question?
First off I am by no means new to the android dev community as I have developed a rom for the sgs-II for At&t before my when in the toilet, anyways I am now on a Telus Samsung galaxy note I717D running:
Android 4.1.2
Baseband Vers. i717dTLMD1
Kernel Vers. 3.0.31-1112295
Build number: JZO54K.I717DTLMD1
TWRP RECOVERY
The phone is not rooted as far as it tells me however I am able to flash any rom I want through twrp recovery. anyways I am using tmobile sim
the question is this has any one flashed a tmobile or at&t modem/radio onto a Telus phone with any luck? if not any recommendations on getting better signal cause mine is **** at this point when I switched my sII to tmobile my signal was pretty decent not the best but still good.
Ok so after a couple of days and np responses i guess i am off to expirment city and will try what i ever o get my hands on and will report back to let others know

Hi there,
From my understanding of your comment you're trying to root your phone correct? If so, I can suggest you check http://www.kingoapp.com. The reason why I suggest it is because it's pretty easy to do; it is how I rooted my i717. Check it out and if you'd like try it.. it's kind of like a one click root way to go about rooting your phone, if you'd like to try obviously.
Cheers,

Thanks! I will check it out! I had found only one other rooting method for this phone and it did not properly root.
So I was given an galaxy note i717 att version the other day and I'd like to use it on tmobile. Anyways I unlocked the phone and flashed tmobiles radios/modems on it but I want to use a different rom on the phone. Will I mess up the phone if I put a rom on it because i changed the network modems?, and if not which rom should I use with my att note i717 on tmobile?

You can run any rom you like if you've flashed the right version of recovery. There are several 4.4.2 roms available if you want to run the latest. Depending on your area, you may get as good a signal with an att modem. Personally I'm running the BlownFuze 4.4.2 with the UVLG3 modem, with no major issues.

Yes, make a CWM backup first in case something goes wrong. Also, make sure you're running CWM 6.0.4.3 before you flash a 4.4.2 rom

Any JB and up roms, you will need to flash gapps again, but your apps will come back when you log in your gmail. Just read the OP for rom you use and there will be a link to appropriate gapps, though many are the same.
If your new though, I would advise you to read up a bit. Nobody is going to replace your phone if you dont understand and as far as I know, nobody has invented a time machine yet.
Welcome aboard, its fun, but nobody is responsible but you.

Same here - never changed a radio. I have rooted and customized a few of i717 and the previous radio seems to either stay on or in some cases such as BeanStalk Rom it replaced my radio. Either way they are all on target with TMO.
Hi folks, I've beem looking forward to flash/use my AT&T galaxy note 2 on T-Mobile as well, can some one please share your experience and the links to flashing or unlocking it please?
Since rooting and flashing rom 4G has been hit or miss always connected it but it doesn't always work anyone know how to fix this problem currently on android 4.3 mk2 on hyper drive.

You could also try a different modem. Could be q few things really. Your coverage area... Modem.. We've also had some AOSP ROMs that have been dropping data as well so, I just switched to another ROM and that fixed it for me and some others.

Been using Hyperdrive RLS 15 with no prblems. One option is to do a complete backup, then reflash. Hope this helps
I recently updated my phone from the Hyperdrive rom(4.3 Android V.) to the Imperium rom(4.4.2 Android V.), and so far i'm having issue's with the connection to the network. My Wifi works fine, but I have no 3G/4G, and service. I'm not sure if it is my phone, kernel, or if i'm missing something to install. I have read that I may have to update the modem, but I have yet to find a thread regarding to it (I not too sure about updating the modem, so I might need some advice on where to start...if that's the case )
Here is some info on my phone:
Android version: 4.4.2
Baseband Version: MDK
Kernel: KT-KK4.4-TW
Build Number: Imperium v7.0

Well in my experience if that doesn't help then it's probably the APNs in the ROM or your actual service area.
I don't run Touchwiz ROMs so I'm not going to be of much help there. In the mean time try another ROM or two and see if anything changes.
Also if you're not getting any LTE at all that could be a sign you need a new sim card... They can act funny I guess to when there on their way out.. Just what I've heard. Try another ROM though and see if that does help you

It might just be my APN after all.... I'll have to look into my setting for it, and see if i can update it.
