Well, I may be in a pickle. I flashed what appeared to be the CDMA version of Disarmed Toaster 0.6 or whatever it was. It didn't boot, so I went to my backup. My phone won't pick up signal anymore, and what's worse, it would appear that WiFi doesn't work either. I've gone to backups from January, done a full wipe and reflash of my daily, and it hasn't fixed the problem.
What the hell do I do now? Anybody have this happen and fix it?
Try flashing firmware? Also, did you just try restoring from a nandroid or did you try flashing the actual rom?

I've tried updating radios. I'm doing an RUU as a last ditch now. I did both the restore and a flash.
EDIT: Full RUU did nothing.
So no signal or wifi? Does 4G work?
I really don't feel like a rom would bork radios, that's quite strange.

Wifi works. I guess the restaurant I was at when it happened had weird things going on with theirs (couldn't connect). 4G, 3G, and 1X voice all do not work. *2 for Sprint doesn't work. The phone has completely forgotten how to do the whole phone thing. I bought an LTE off eBay, but it won't be here for a week and a half, so I'd still like to get this one working.
I feel the same way as you. Unless there was something deadly hidden in it (which I doubt. It's Agrabren.) I don't see it happening. I'm wondering if it could actually be a remnant of the VM firmware that finally showed up. I honestly don't know.
i have the same problem from a flash i did about 2 days ago when i flashed
[28/10/12][JB 4.1.2]ParanoidAndroid 2.50 when the phone booted up there was no signal and i've tried everything ruu nandroids everything any help ?????
i was s-off h-boot 1.40
it seems like no devs ever touch on this subject and these Q&A just slip away never being answered and yes a rom can wipe out radio and what not or i would not be on here asking for help.
I was on 3drp with no problem just wanted to check out the rom and wham no radio ever since.
any help would be awesome
thanks!!!
Have you tried making the phone go through hands free activation again? I've not heard of this issue from anyone else using these ROMs.
I had the same issue with a sense 4 rom. I did a ##786# and thzt did it
Do a ##clear# and that should reset everything. Then do an update from the about phone screen in settings.

Now I am afraid to install Jelly Bean base roms. I will stick to good old Ice Cream Sandwich.
Somehow, 4g doesn't work for me on AOSP roms. It says connected, but no internet on both mui and cm10. Flashed meanrom and it worked. No idea what is going on haha

These 2 guys are the first I've heard from thousands of installations of Jb based roms. I know for a fact that jjriz had flashed freeza's vm leak prior to flashing the PA rom, those may be linked somehow but we don't know how or why this has happened.

ive flashed stock rom and stock recovery and still have the custom unlocked padlock.. any ideas? i need to go back to verizon since i messed up my sim and 4g is broken.
third time flashing recovery and stock rom and the padlock is finally gone
I have the same issue. I had jellybean. I think it was 4.2.2, rooted it and then they pushed the OTA kitkat 4.4.2. I lost my root and I'd really like to get rid of that padlock screen now. Problem is people keep saying I can use triangle away to reset the binary counter and that will get rid of it. Can't do that without it being rooted though. Some say just re flash with the stock firmware. I'd do it if I could find the file but some say that doesn't work anyway. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Ive read somewhere on here that it may be something on you external sd card , possibly old " hack , root " files from a previous phone?
Also if busy box was ever installed that would need to be removed. There's probably something else I'm forgetting. But if your phone just has that custom screen.... Verizon doesn't really care i can tell you from personal experience.

Thanks for the reply. I read those responses but mine didn't have the padlock out of the box. I just figured maybe someone found a way to get rid of it by now after the KitKat OTA removed their root. Perhaps re flashing the stock rom, which I can't find, might do it. And I did look around with no luck.
Eh. No biggie. It's not affecting the performance of the phone. I'm just being anal. I guess I can live with it. Thanks again.

Hi guys.
Here is the update.zip for MI5. I have taken the liberty to remove the firmware (bootloader, trustedzone, etc) from this just incase Samsung is trying to pull something. I'm posting two versions, one with the firmware and one without. Appyling this update.zip caused my phone to not boot with the updated kernel. I had to revert back to the MI3 kernel in order to boot up. I'm assuming this is due to either root, or me removing the firmwares. That is why i'm labeling this as dev.
NOTE: DO NOT FLASH THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR PREVIOUS KERNEL AND CAN RESTORE.
NOTE2: You can safely flash the Update WITH previous kernel once it goes live.
Update with no firmwares:
MI5 Update NO bootloader
Update with firmwares:

Thanks. If I don't see a new TAR this weekend I'll patch the modem so it can be flashed via Odin.

When you are in TWRP, the "boot" check box, is the kernel. So, when backing up or restoring, as long as that box is checked, the kernel should be backed up (or restored).

We have been trying all day to get the update... It is not yet available for me or freeza.
if you would like too return to stock, and if you get the OTA. let us know...
we can walk you through pulling the files, and uploading, so either myself or freeza can make a flashable for everyone. I also spoke to Garwyn, and he doesn't have the OTA yet either. It also isn't posted on Sammobile, and it isn't available in Kies yet either...
Be patient. Obviously, we will be posting stock rom, odin restore, and update zips/. these things just take time.

I came from the HTC evo 3D and i know how to fully root s-off, roms..etc. And i would really like to learn how to do the same to this phone as well. As of right now it has the 4.0.4 firmware on it ICS. I have never owned a samsung phone before and im really new to all of this for the note. I will thank any help i get! I cant wait to start flashing ROMS and kernels to this phone!! . Also once i flash the recovery how do i boot into it? And will i be able to flash roms directly from the phone? I know there is a program called odin that is used to flash recoverys and kernels i think. Last question would be.. Where can i find usb drivers for windows 8.1 for the note 1. Thanks again!

Well I just flashed a jellybean 4.1.2 ROM and it is working perfect. But I still want kitkat. I don't remember the name of the one I tried to flash. My main question is when I flash jb, ICS, or kitkat. Do they all just work after flash or do I need some kinda different boot thing like my HTC needed? Last thing is I could not find a flashable cwm recovery through Odin. Do I have to flash it with an app through the phone? PS: If it is as easy to flash things to this phone as easy as I think that would be awesome. So far I am LOVING THIS THING. Samsung might be my new favorite brand.. I had to do so many things to my HTC evo 3D just for custom kernels to be on it. Thanks for any help I get.

Update: Flashed cwm non touch recovery through the app. And I also flashed the candy shop kitkat 4.4.2 ROM, upon boot the WiFi would not work so I am back on the jb 4.1.2 ROM and I am now downloading hellybean jb 4.3 now. I wiped the data before I installed the kitkat ROM and there is no option in recovery to wipe the system so I guess every ROM I install it will overwrite which is kinda weird. I will try to flash the touch version of cwm later.. The one on the forum you gave me says access denied on my phone when I try to download the latest one. But It did work on my pc so I'll get it from there..

Glad your researching!
I also recommend reading the rom descriptions, and instructions. Some builders will clue you in as to which recovery to use, and what gapps need flashed.
I also recommend skimming thru the posts to see what issues other users may have had. They might of given you a clue as to why the Wi-Fi didn't work.

I'm pretty sure my phone is also a time machine...here's why, and please clear this up for me. I have tried googling this to find out how I ended up with such a special Super Galaxy S4. I got my Verizon S4 back in April last year and have been rooted ever since it was possible...so, in other words I have one of the original MDK builds. Why am I always reading about people freaking out because of 'accidentally' upgrading their firmware on these builds...hang on, let me continue. I have flashed a ROM on my phone about 131 times, and flashed maybe 2 or 3 radios...after doing so, my baseband and build numbers would change pretty regularly... to ME7, MK2, and everything in between. I have absolutely no trouble flashing whatever I want for the most part, and can always go back to MDK...why is this? I have lots of theories but they all revolve around me being awesome...and I'm sure you'd rather not hear them. Can anyone explain this?

Well I think your referring to flashing custom ROMs that are " upgraded" past MDK. You can obviously do that without issue. You can also flash any modem you want ( baseband ).
But what people are referring to when they say do NOT update an MDK phone is either an OTA Update directly from Verizon... Or using Odin to flash stock firmware beyond MDK.
If you do that your bootloaders going to lose the Loki Exploit and bye bye custom recovery... Follow me??

Your bootloaders going to be MDK
And your radio will be whatever one you last flashed. And depending on what ROM you're running, in your about phone it MAY show you a different build other than MDK. That's just the build the Dev based the ROM off of.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
Like the poster above said, flashing Modems/Radios will change what's shown as your "baseband" in about phone, but won't affect your MDK bootloader. So your bootloader version was never upgraded/downgraded.
phew!
Ah...so it's not all about me. Thanks for the thoroughly explained answers from both of u guys. That really clears things up. And glad to know about the modem being OK to flash/upgrade. Definitely don't update via OTA or use anything in Odin other than MDK.!!!
After you root your phone use Titanium Backup and freeze "SDM " and "FWUpgrade" then make a backup in whatever recovery you're using.
Those two things being frozen ( I think SDM is good enough ) will stop any OTA possibility. Although being rooted and whatever else you may have done should be enough to stop it. No need to risk it lol

Hmm...I searched Titanium for SDM and anything with FW (FWUpgrade) in it, i dont see anything there. I tried just browsing too. Maybe BoneStock v2.1 (VZW, TW, 4.3) is built without those files already? I'd like to do what you're recommending though, that makes so much sense. I found "ConfigUpdater" but, that's probably not what I want, right?
