2 methods are listed, one the general forum and one in the dev forum. There is no direct root method available for kitkat so you have to go thru the downgrade/upgrade process using odin

In the General Forum - [HOW-TO]Upgrade to 4.4.2 VRUFNC5 and keep root (for NC2 and MK2 devices) and I545_MK2toNC5_SS_KeepRoot_OTA.zip
Please read those threads and understand the risk of trying to root. Several people are either missing steps or forgetting to download things, leading to soft-bricked phones. The first link is to a method that allows you to downgrade NC5 to MK2, re-root, then re-upgrade to NC5 while keeping root. The second thread is for phones running MK2 where you want to upgrade to NC5 in one shot.
You can root with:

Well first off this thread is from 10 weeks ago.
Second off, out of all those root methods you listed only two work for the Verizon S4.
POOT doesn't work, Framaroot doesn't work and definitely isn't "the most popular one", Z4root doesn't work, no one's ever mentioned Baidu Root working so please link as to where you saw that.
Vroot works but uses shady ChineseSU so not sure why you would recommend that.
Gingerbreak is for Gingerbread devices... the Verizon S4 was released years after Gingerbread?
"Flash a SU zip on your unlocked bootloader phone"- Well no version of the Verizon S4 has a truly unlocked bootloader besides the dev edition...
So, yeah, what the hell you talking about bud?
@joshm.1219 i am updating my list with root methods and i'm recommending them in general to everyone that needs help with root and most of the times they appreciate it.
Because there is always a method that will fit

Im just saying it's the wrong information. You would have a noob waste time their time trying the 5 methods you listed that don't work or using the dangerous root method you recommended? Why can't you give correct information so it is actually helpful? Or help people who recently asked for help not old threads?

And you expect people to try all of them until something works? And you point them to shady rooting programs?
This is not helpful. Or, it's about as useful as telling someone to click on all of the Google results from "android root" until one works.

I need help rooting this tablet. The Proscan plt4311-pl is a small tablet running Android 4.0. I have tried OneClickRoot and SuperOneClick, neither worked. I am new to this but I would love to have full control over my tablet and install a custom ROM. Can someone please help me and put it in terms that a newbie can understand!
root proscan plt4311
This is a MIPS based tablet. (Actions 7013 based). Most apps and binaries are made for ARM. That is why the tools you mentioned didn't work. I think there is a list keeping track of what apps work and/or have been ported over at the Ainol Novo 7 basic threads.
I managed to get root access, but there's many steps involved, and honestly I'm gonna have to go back and figure exactly what I did after I get some rest but below are the tools&links and some basic instructions.
******OOps, guess I can't post links as a new user. type freetexthost.com/xvfjzr1ltq into your browser for my notes on rooting the Proscan Plt4311*********
******Edit #2: I soft bricked it trying to install ICS gapps. I re-flashed the firmware and rooted the tablet again, much quicker this time. And I managed to get play store and some other apps going. I should have a ready made script after work tommorow for you and all the other Big Lots bargain shoppers who bought this tablet (I got mine for $40!)

Just got mine on sale for $17.99 on Newegg Flash, came in the mail today. It's still doing the first charge on my 3A, shouldn't take long (no devil emote?) Can't wait to see what you devs can do for this thing! Although it is MIPS I'm sure simple apps and roms will run fine, but ARM is still preferable. But hey, it was $18. What do you expect?

I use the term "devs" very loosely here. Basically anyone willing to work on it. The first thing I'm gonna do is try to get into Recovery, and from there you could theoretically root it, install Gapps, etc.
Any updates?

Yes, I just rooted mine under 2 minutes, you can do it too.
It works with up to 20h for now.
This is not by me, it is by @jcase, posted in XDA Security, but I think it deserves a thread here.
Edit: actually it has been mentioned here.
1. Go to this thread by jcase
2. Download his app at the end of the post LGPwn.apk
3. Install it (remember to enable installation from unknown source)
4. Run the app LGPwn
5. Follow its instruction, basically:
* click RootMe to run LG BackUp app
* go through BackUp app's 5-6 intro screen and accept its TOS if it is the first time you run that app
* select Restore
* select Local Storage
* select LGPwn
* wait for phone to reboot
* go to Play Store to install SuperSU or SuperUser
Why?
I started this thread since I found no official mention of LGPwn anywhere. I recently have LG to repair my P769, and it comes back with 20h. And I don't want to setup the offline kdz root method, so a google search get me to LGPwn.
If you cannot make the method work, try to follow this
chadteck said:
What I did was restore the backup and prior to clicking the button to restart, plugged the phone into my computer. I was prompted with a SuperSU confirmation dialog and I granted access.
This hotplug wasn't necessary with previous ROM versions, but maybe something changed. I read that was how the exploit worked, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Hmm, in L9 General forum, search for LGPwn and that thread is no where to be found (but this thread is found ).
And too many? I count 2: the original adb restore method and Lelus method. And now the simplest one: LGPwn method.
Edit: I know why! The other thread is in Android Dev!!! Not sure about others, but when I buy a new phone and want to root it, I will go to General forum to look for root method, may be Q&A, but definitely not Android Dev!!!
Anyway, my point is: LGPwn deserves a STICKY thread, so that new people go to this forum to root their device should not go with those lengthy (both in text and in time) KDZ offline method (with scary anti-virus alert)! How do you ask for that thread to be made sticky?
Don't do a factory reset after rooting via LGPwn, you'll get a 'sleep of death' only to be awaken by ripping out the battery, this happened to me and I had to flash the kdz to fix it

Actually, people Google "[Phone name] Root." And it pops up. The general section is for general things. The development section is for development (root). General can have repositories with links to items in development, but development should stay out of general.
Thanks anyways I guess.

If you look at what "sticky" in the general section and dev section, you will see what each section is about (4 out of 6 stickies of general section has root in their titles, and 1 out of 20 threads on 1st page of dev section has root in their title). And definitely development is not root nor vice versa, I am 100% sure on that , and root is not even a pre-requisite on the dev section (think of an unlocked boot loader device, root is just a mean to get it unlocked and then, people can do all creative things on android).

Sadly no, this app is more like an author's proof-of-concept rather than an app.
Oh, I think I did use some app similar to Z4ROOT to root my LGp509. Anyone used iOS and jailbreak their devices with just a slide on jailbreakme.com? Just love those one click and done type of deals .

Running MI1, rooted. Is that the latest build for the S4? If not, is there a link to the latest stock to Odin.
Thanks.
Latest is MJ7. There's links in the General Forum section. And the only way to root as of now is with vroot (Google), it's a Chinese websites method. There are a couple threads about swapping out the superuser app after gaining root. There is no method to add ROMs yet for it.

The safest and easiest method I have found is Chainfire Zip file. Go to the ANDROID DEVELOPMENT forum and you will find the thread. Look for the link to Chainfire's website and look for the CWM or TWRP flashable zip. The latest version is 1.94, download it, go into recovery and flash. As simple as that.I hope this helps you.

Framaroot is for JB Devices.

Compatible devices are given in that page. Check your device and required Root Exploit.
It is working for many people.
However there is a constant risk. So do it at your own responsibility.

Above solution is useless, because to use SuperSU, you need root first.
SuperSU does not root your phone. After rooting, it gives root access to apps.
I suggest you first to root your phone, then install SuperSU from above link.
Try Framaroot for rooting.
@Benelshaddai
Your solutions will not work. First root is required, then SuperSU is required for monitoring app root access.
In technical words,
First "su" binary (i.e. root) should be installed, then SuperSU (i.e. root access manager app) should be installed.
