I have the motorola atrix 4g currently has android 2.3.6 carrier ATT. Normally I could really care less about eye candy etc, but I find the final build att put out to be a little buggy.
All the mods I have found on this forum and another are just over welming. All I want is a stable rom that will run efficiently and allow me to completely get rid of moto blur. I am technically savy, but have little experience with roms on phones. So any youtube links and how to you think would be a help to me I would greatly appreciate.
That's a very subjective opinion, and this kind of threads aren't allowed by the rules.
The advice is the same as always been: go to esch rom thread, read, read and read. Then make a choice, if you don't like the result, either go back to you backup or try another one.

Ok, maybe I am missing something on the forum. When I goto the developers forum I seem some rom here and there posted. Is there an easier way to get a list of all the stable roms developed for this device so I can just read through each one? Searching been a bigger part of the issue.

@andresrivas is correct. this thread, at least the first post, smells of a "what is the best ROM" kind of thread. that kind is banned on xda, which is what he was referring to. In order to completely get rid of motoblur, you need to go to a custom ROM (Paranoid, AOKP, and CyanogenMod are the more common ones).
Your first step would be to read the how to unlock, root, and flash a custom recovery, and then do it. if you already are, then you can skip that part.
Next is to decide what Android version you want to be on, GB (2.3 series), ICS (4.0.4), or JB (4.1-4.3). From there, you really are on your own as far as what ROM you pick.
Thread closed, each of us have their own choices and preferences on choosing ROM. So try for yourself you will find many..

Hi Im looking to install a rom on my phone and was wondering what is the best one out there now?
Try them all out for yourself to find out which is best.
What I would think is best, you could hate for all I Know.
ok, let me chime in here before you get flamed and the thread gets locked. Dont create a thread asking for the best rom. Every phone is different and will respond to ROM's differently. What works for me, may not work for you.
the same suggestion applies to everyone creating a thread like this -- try all the roms and determine which works best for you.

I am sure you are going to be yelled at by many for asking this question ! See, it depends on what your requirement is, some like heavily themed ROM (firmware), some like very light weight ( just better battery, minimal force closures, etc).
why don't you start with something stock like UnNamed, SHOstock ROMs if you don't like and you want more 'customization' then try TASK650's ICS'd and ICScrewD these are themed and a little heavier and have more options to play around!
Give each ROM couple of days and see how it works for your daily use, and choose your final one, also learn how to take Nandroid backup using CWM and take backup before try new one one.
Ones I pointed are here for long and stable.
Good luck!
Geezus .. another one? ..batter down the hatches, there's a storm brewin!
New users should be required to sign a waiver stating that they will NOT under any circumstances, start a New thread asking about which ROM is best.. add that line into the services and agreement checkbox..
sent from my Galaxy SIII ...haha jk, I FOiLed ya!
AFAIK, there is absolutely no BEST ROM as it might be BEST and suitable for you but not for others.
Keep reading through, most of the time when new ROM update released, a first few pages, people keep giving thumbs up and 5 or 6 stars but down the road, they start reporting issue, oh, I can't do this, I can't do that after update.
Expect to pull your hair, scratch your head a few times.
Best rom is whichever one gives u the options u want and does what u need it to do. If you're asking which are more popular and basing your idea off these, just peruse the development section. Usually more popular Roms are at the top or have been around a while and have been thoroughly tested by the user base.

This is why allowing these threads is bad. They'll just keep on coming. To the OP, had you spent a single minute looking over the first page of threads in here you would have seen this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484306
Maybe it might have saved you from starting this redundant and useless thread, maybe not. No one ROM is THE BEST because no one uses their phone the same way or has the same needs/expectations. The only way to find which one is best for you is to try them. To figure that out you should read the various ROM's threads in Dev and see what problems/benefits it has and decide for yourself what you can live with. THERE IS NO BEST ROM!
We dont allow "best rom" threads. Each person is different looking for different featuers. Try some yourself and see which one fits you.

Hi Everyone,
I know may be you don't like my thread's name, It is my opinion and I want to know your opinion.
The reason why I'm asking this, simply because I rooted my Razr XT910 to ICS and I really regret. You will tell me , unroot, sure I can do. But I want to pass my experience and to everyone cannot wait to root his Razr.
Ok my reasons are as follows:
1- If you are not very careful you simply can lose your phone
2-After rooting from 2.3.6 on Razr XT910 to ICS 4.0.4 and after the tension because of my mistake and was going to lose my Razr, I found the ICS very basic not much to add to UI. Meaning no widgets like contacts favourites and many others so simply you have to keep installing apps either free or buying not like the original 2.3.6.
3- Not fast as expected
4- No enough support for the Razr XT910 very minimal. Everything is for Droid Razr XT912. I did a mistake by installing a rom for Droid Razr and it blocked my phone and I had to use RSD to install SBF.
5- Themes are very poor
Again guys this is a personal opinion, just wanted to share it with you and to think twice before rooting you Razr XT910
My ROM is Razr-AOKP-GSM-J.Y.Daddy
BTW, I tried Eternity project for Razr XT910 and I got Installation aborted message and again no help in its thread how to overcome the issue
There is more to rooting a phone then just install roms.
Some programs need root to give all the benefits they have, like Rootbrowser, System tuner Pro and SetCPU.
With a rooted phone I can set my cpu level during day, work hours and night.
I can freeze and unfreeze bloatware, make backups and optimize my phone as I like to with or without a rom.
That's why I got it rooted.

First of all, thanks for your help earlier you saved my phone from crashing.
Second, I thought the development section is the proper one to discuss rooting matter. Or what do you think?
In addition, how many stable roms are out there for XT910 same like yours. Please mention some.
Thanks

No, that belongs in the General section. If you want to discuss a rooting that you did in the Development section, then you would comment on the thread where you received your information for the ROM you chose to place on your phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344531
....Wow, just wow. *palm to forehead*
@flupo: You have a rogers razr, I'm guessing, which is why you can't get the leak. Give it time, you'll get real ics. Really can't believe you felt the need to make a thread about this lol.
I have the Rogers Razr as well and I'm running J Daddy's custom CM9. Works very well as a daily driver. I don't have a need for bluetooth and I can live without the video recording function. All users understand that these builds are in development and do not provide all the functions flawlessly. So your only options are to wait for an official build from Motorola or hope that somehow a bootloader bypass/unlock comes around that will allow us to use the kernel+radio from the Chinese/European ICS and have a ROM that is more streamlined than the current development builds.
Rooting is not the same as installing a ROM. Updating from GB to ICS is installing a new ROM which has absolutely nothing to do with "Root" in most situations.
Root is the Linux way of saying Admin Account. With "root" access to a phone, you literally have permission to do anything you want, install anything you want, remove anything you want, and run anything even if it requires permissions that are normally rejected on a unrooted phone.
Apps that require root that I use on a regular basis: TitaniumBackup, AdFree, Terminal Emulator, WiFi Tether, and ES File Explorer. There are many others. None of these have anything to do with installing ICS or not.
Your thread title is misleading and it is in the wrong forum. Developers create threads in the Development section, only. You can reply to one of their threads if appropriate, but to create a new discussion on something it should be in General.
You should read through a lot more threads, ask questions in the general section, and generally understand a lot more before you start trying to modify your phone like this. That should be the warning you tell people. People shouldn't just jump in and start modifying their phone's OS until they know what OS, Root, ROM, and a bunch of other terms mean and what they do.
Lol.I have a galaxy nexus i root the day i got it,i also have a Droid razr maxx that I haven't root yet. Thanks for this thread I'm diff not going to root now.

Read carefully and thoroughly and you won't have a problem. Rush in and flash the first file you find and you'll quickly end up with a brick. Getting the most out of any device requires an investment time-wise, and if you're not prepared to make that investment you shouldn't be flashing anything.

Obviously from most of your comments, I did a mistake by making such a question in this section. Sorry about that but I thought it is the right one where people read about rooting.
Second, These are my previous smartphone list which I did rooting for all of them and it went fine with no crashes:
HTC Tytn 2
Sony Ericson Experia
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Diamond 1 and 2
HTC HD
HTC HD2
HTC Desire
So may be from the above you can see guys that I have some experience in rooting and I read a lot about it.
The reason for my thread was to raise the issue that there is no enough support for the great Razr especially XT910. As per Motorola support team whom I discussed with, the upgrade from GB to ICS is in the planing phase and might take about another 3-4 months.
Any how I tried to do that to see if I can solve the issue for having ICS on XT910 or not before selling it and go back to HTC with HTC One X.
Last, it will be great to have a professional forum that has talented people respect each other not like the respectable person whom said "ohh Canadians Canadians"
Everyone of those phones you listed are HTC devices including the Sony Ericson.
That's probably why you stuffed up because this is not a HTC device. Not to mention the majority are native windows mobile phones..
Do you know some one named planetone?

Hey XDA,
I got my S3 at launch, and ever since I've seen some great Jelly Bean roms coming out I've been tempted to flash one on. My only problem is that I'll be losing S Beam, Smart Stay and Direct Call.
Just wondering if anyone who has already done so can give me some advice on weather it's worth it? Weather the Jelly Bean features outweigh the built in ones or not? Any feedback would be great, thanks.

Samsung is almost ready testing Jellybean for the S3, it will come out in about 6-8 weeks officialy. Maybe some leaked roms will pop up at Sammobile soon. If you only want to root for Jellybean i would not do it and wait for a little while.
If you want those features stock with Samsung based roms and wait for the official jelly, in the meantime check out a few custom s Samsung roms to keep the flash addiction happy
There's a few reasons I'd flash one of these roms on it. #1 being I for some reason am a massive vanilla android fan, and #2 being that I live in Australia and it will probably take them an extra 6 months to bring the official update here after it's released. Although, I did get the "Stability Improvement" update last weekend, a few weeks off the rest of the world, is that an indication of future updates being that quick also?
Thanks for your replies and I look forward to continue this thread to help me decide. One part of me is thinking how hard is it to touch the screen to stop it from sleeping, press a button to call someone, or use bluetooth to transfer files bigger than web pages. The other is saying what's the point of getting the latest and greatest smartphone to get rid of it's advertised features?
I think ultimately the answer is just flash it and if you don't like them just restore your nandroid! I've got 4 now, of different roms/kernels ....it's like having quad boot!

if you root then you can create a nandroid backup(complete system image) so I try different roms, if I like one I set it all up then do a nandroid, so if I want to try other roms and come back I just restore it, but now that this will lose your data between making that original nandroid and returning to it

Everyone's situation is different, hence why I'm asking. Also, I'm not "demanding" anything, I'm simply asking people who have already done what I'm thinking an opinion, and even developers can explain what the pros of using their software compared to stock if they so desire. I may be new to these forums, but I've been a part of the Android community since it's release so I don't appreciate being treated like a so called "noob" when if you calm down, sit back and think about it I have not broken any rules, and I posted it in Questions and Answers not the Development section so this is also the correct section.
To the other people who actually cared to share their opinion, thanks, and I think I'll give a few custom roms a go.

Nevertheless, you can compare your questions with other questions and answer them. Be it here or in other forums.
Because I do not think your question is "unique" and can not be answered with another question that has already been asked.
You must simply enter your title in Google and then you'll find massive pages, where the same or similar question has been answered.
Why I am so upset about it? I have already explained in my text.

This is not exactly a whats best rom post its asking is JB reliable enough to install; as its a not yet released firmware .Plus featureless lost .
Simple solution for whats the best rom posts is to report to a mod let them decide .
Personally i would not report this as its not a whats best rom post .
But OP i would actually wait for JB release from Samsung .

Hi there,
I just got a XT910 and this forum seems to be covering only for the brand new version on it, and could not find a forum here about my device so I kinda feel canned as this website have been very useful for me for my HTC a while ago
All I want to do is to be able to back up my GB as I really like this version of it, its indeed really neat. I'm keen to install ICS but only if I can make it to work out a dual boot situation at some point as BMM wont install (see my other thread).
So yeah if anyone can help either way by giving me an address for a friendly XT910 forum or some article that could help me acheve what I want to do that would be ace!!
Thanks in advance.
VonZ
?
This is a xt910 forum.
We have the xt912 as well because it is basically the same phone... Just different battery. All the roms you see here also work on your phone.
Now on to your question.
GB and ICS multiboot is NOT possible. Once you are on ics you can't go back to GB. It's due to our locked bootloader.
That being said: ics and now jellybean are much better than GB. I really would advise you to upgrade but that's just my opinion.
Welcome to the forum. Thread moved, please make sure you post all questions here in Q&A in future.
Thanks
AvRS
Thanks fellows and sorry about the mispost,
So dual if dual boot is only possible between JB and ICS what is the point having a dual boot
I have seen many videos showing Android 4.x.x, had it installed on my HTC a few times and always curled back to 2.x.x mainly because of the graphic interface that I personally find horrid. The Motorola graphic designers really did a good job on this GB and it's quiet fast too.
If you have anything that would make me change my mind toward the new Android, feel free to let me know..
Saying that, if I choose to keep my original OS but would like to be able to perform backups, I'm not sure how to achieve this as Clockwork Recovery does not seem to be working straight away.
Any help welcome>>

Well, after a while (too much time) with dual boot ICS ROMs - Stock 4.0.3 LPG & PFittech ROM 4.0.4 (with siyah kernel), I kinda lost with all the new ROMs, all looks the same but one have options that other haven't and vice versa....
First I wanna know if there is any stable JB ROM (AOKP, not intresting in Stock)?
The 4.2.2 ROMs are stable enough? what the main problems this ROMs have?
I made a pool, just to know a little bit more about the statistic (if someone will cooperate ) of how many users using each ROM, also can post here and share recommands...I want to flash a new ROM and hope to get some info before I'm doing that
Aokp 4.1.2 official is perfectly stable n works great with siyah kernel 5. Its has no problem at all.
Some roms 4.2.2 are not perfect.they work well but most of them have a very poor battery duration.
In my opinion the only 4.2.2 roms i d use d be: sentinel rom. Aokp. Slimbean. I tested a lot of roms 4.2.2( cm rootbox carbon hct thinking etc) n in this 3 i had no problems at all n good battery life( liquid smooth 2.4 is also great. But liquidsmooth team stop supporting our device so the rom file is lost)

Don't know where you find any mention to "bettet/best" rom, all I ask is if the JB roms are stable enough to flash (its been a while last time I've checked) and just for the record to know which rom ppl here using (from the above, cuz all of them looks almost the same)
I also would like to know if there is any bugs or something I should know about the new versions before I'm flashing it.
But if you don't want to help with this, its fine by me.
@Raagh - thanks for reply mate, good to know that the 4.1.2 versions are finally stables!
There are bugs, as always. We got threads about it and fixes for -almost - all of them.
There's no "better ROM" mention, you're right. Tho there are a couple of queries about how stable are those ROM you happened to mention.
You need to try them out one by one or you can read the 1000 pages of the official jb thread sticked in the general forum.
That being said there's no room for any advice on what ROM you should flash, so it won't be -as- a better ROM thread.

all depends oh what flavor you like ... all the ROM's have there own features dislikes and likes to every individual person... as in kernels as well its matter of preference of what you like ...good luck hope you find the one you like
Its perfectly clear that this is basically a "What is best rom" thread which is against the rules!
If you want to know what is the best/most stable or however you want to put you should TRY THEM AND FIND OUT!
All these type of threads do is result in the same subjective opinions nothing more, If you want those kinds of threads dont create new ones use the search button!
Also READ sticky topics!
Thread reported for obvious reasons!
Sheer laziness :-/
Maybe its because of the poll that I've opened you may tought its "another BEST rom thread".
Seems like some people here getting 'self-righteous', since the last time I've visited...
A simple question that become a spam one, thanks to the 'righteous' "guards" // AKA bootlickers.
I pretty 'seated' about flashing new ROMs, I know most of you don't, but I've flashed a lot of ROMs before I've got the two I mention at the first post, you can call it lazyness, I call it doing home-work before flashing 10 ROMs, I prefer focus on 2 or 3 ROMs to check...
Anyway, I have no idea how to delete the poll (some dumbs may thought its 'what is better rom' post because of this stupid poll, the aim was to see the distribution of the people who use these popular roms, but no one never choose anyway.)
Still - I've got my answers, thanks to @Raagh @gastonw and @slimlo for the informative answers, I naively thought it was a simple question and after a while people could direct me more to something specific.
You can close this thread, thanks again for the above guys and for the 'self-righteous'//bootlickers - hope you'll had a better popularity next time.
The question is, why shouldn't you flash & test a bunch of roms to find one that has what you want/one you like the same as almost everyone else here ? The whole point of hanging around a place like XDA is you like messing around with your phone - yourself. Not have everyone else do it for you.
If that's not your bag, you're probably in the wrong place.
Thread closed as its a Best ROM thread.
