[Q] Verizon store visit, advice needed. Unroot phone? - HTC Droid DNA

Hey all, just want some friendly advice.
My wireless charging stopped working (please don't make fun of me for this) and I considering going into Verizon to talk to a rep.
My phone is out of warranty, and rooted running cm11. I figure because I'm out of warranty, I probably won't get a new phone/refurb phone. But I'm considering trying, just might luck out, ya know?
My question is this, since I don't go to Verizon stores. Do they care about rooting/roms? I've read mixed reports, and don't want to go to the hassle of going back to stock, especially if I'm already SOL. And I have no idea how to get back to stock at this point. I've been running custom roms since I got the phone.
Thanks for the feedback!

I would recommend making a backup
>flash a stock Rom that has reports of wireless charging working>check it if it still doesn't work. If it works I'd go thru trouble shooting in your Rom thread, If not I'd assume it's your hardware.(I'd make sure it's not your charger as well) And in that case return it to stock and return it to Verizon.

Thanks for the feedback. I've tried both venom and cm11, so I guess I'll flash back to stock and make a trip to the store. Thanks again.

IMO Verizon associates are clueless. They can barely operate tablet they use to check you in the store. My speakerphone had blew out so I took my Rooted, unlocked, custom ROM phone in so they could see it. They didn't say anything. Worst case scenario they say your phone looks different... Just say its a icon pack theme you got off the play store. I've even taken my ladies phone to get looked at....they didn't notice anything. Hope you get your problem resolved!

I would not walk into a VZW store with a rooted phone looking for a refurb. Even if the rep is clueless and replaces your phone with a refurb phone, the refurb facility that gets your old phone will know it is rooted and charge your account several hundreds of dollars for the refurb'd phone that you got in the store. Then it is up to you to prove that it wasn't and try to get your old phone back.
Best thing to do is to do a recovery backup on the existing phone, return to stock, get a replacement, root, s-off, and install recovery, and restore the backup.

When a phone is received by the refurb facility, the phone is checked for three things and if its Rooted/Unlocked isn't one of them. They simply check to see if the box that the device was sent in is damaged, if the phone has any physical damage, and if it powers on. I have friends that are/have been phone techs at Verizon and Sprint. All they do anyways is just reflash the phone. This is just my 2 cents and what I know. Now of you send a rooted/unlocked phone that has major damage you will be charged.... Not for root/unlocked reasons.

[Q] Manufacturer vs Assurion warranty

My TB is having charging issues, but since I bought it used I cant take it back to verizon, but I do have Asurion insurance on it...
My question is:
With verizon, they wont accept a return if its been rooted, but how about asurion?
I rooted my phone to try an wipe the battery stats, but it didnt work,
Ive gone back to stock, but cant seem to get S-on again... will they still take the phone?
thanx

If you follow the proven method to unroot your phone, you will go back to stock and s-on.
Sent from my Synergized Thunderbolt via XDA Premium App
this is the method I followed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423
the first file/image loaded fine, got me back to stock android
but the second image wouldnt load, from HBoot it would say "bypassed"
I have since accepted the OTA so im running build 1.70 now...
can I still try loading the second image (via HBoot) and seeing if it takes it this time, or will it only work while running 1.12 (or was it 1.13)
thanx

Asurion doesn't warranty anything. It's insurance. You're wasting your time, too, because on an insurance claim they don't care if they ever see the phone again. Tell them its currently deep sea diving.
So just tell them its not charging properly, then pay a deductible and they send me a new phone, then send them mine?
(I have an issue with the lying thing, but thanx for the input)
Danny
I doubt they would even ask. I've replaced phones through them 3 times. I would avoid sending them the phone though. Just tell them you aren't able to send it back and leave it at that.

Please help! Trying to unroot EVO with hboot 1.5

Hey everyone. I rooted my friends phone using the HTC unlock method two months ago and put a custom ROM on his phone. His phone is freezing up and his bottom navigation buttons don't work. I tried using a stock rooted ROM and he's still having the issue. How do I unroot his phone and put it back to stock so he can take it to Sprint for a replacement. Please help me ASAP I'll really appreciate it

They should. That is normal for it to say that if you rooted with HTC method. Let me know how it goes.
They should definately fix the phone if its harware is not operating properly as long as you have a protection plan. If they have to replace it, they may try and charge a deductable.
I'm pretty sure Sprint doesn't care if you have rooted your phone if you have the TEP. You will have to pay a deductable if they deem it 'bricked,' though. I've had damaged phones with root worked on before, and I've had Sprint staff tell me that it doesn't matter anymore.
I haven't seen it in any official document, but the employees I have spoken with told me in person.
You might as well just go down to a Sprint store near you and ask them if it matters, it could save you some trouble.

I have talked with the techs at the sprint store there all rooted some of the non tecs could be a ass but I doubt it there cool with root . They will even show you there phone with the ROM there using sometimes.
Also just make sure you don't have that hacked WiFi app on ur phone tho lol.
Sprint changed their policies on rooted phones awhile ago. If the in store person gives you grief then move to another one that's not as dumb.
Thanks everyone, I tried unrooting and it nothing would work, I flashed a stock rooted ROM and deleted the super user app. My friend is getting a replacement Monday

[Q] should i send in on warranty

Just looking for some opinions and advise here. Got my attic on Craigslist about 6 months back. Was plagued with reboots and having to pull battery a lot. Unlocked it and started flashing anything and everything trying to fix (roms, radios, kernels, cm7, cm9 etc) . Finally settled on neutrino. But still rebooted and froze. Installed wakelock and now works fine. Just found out phone is still under warranty with Motorola. Should I send back or live with wakelock not letting my phone go into deep sleep.
And my wife's attic was also bought off Craigslist. Hers worked great until last update (she is on pure unmolested stock not even ROOTED). Now it reboots, constantly disconnects from wifi, proximity censor issues. Should I send hers back now or wait and hope next update fixes.
My warranty up in October hers in November.
UPDATED: WIFES FIXED. NEED TO GET MINE TO STOCK
I would use the warranty.
On both. I am pretty sure will send hers in. Mine being unlocked worries me a bit. Is going to suck using old backflip while phone gets repaired. Bought these cash so no contracts but from what I have read Motorola will service without receipts.
I would try warranty on locked non-rooted phone. My personal opinion is if you root and unlock it is your problem. We all know(or at least should) the risks that are involved.

I briefly read the warranty. If I remember correctly they don't cover damage done by using other software. And since I had the prob before the software didn't cause prob. Oh and how did you get a straighttalk logo. I don't remember it being an option. 45 unlimited* rocks
Nevermind found straighttalk. Of course after I buy 2 e71's. Just for the sims they start selling them for like 15$…oh well
If you try to send it in the worst they can say is no.Watch tethering and/or laptop dock usage, I have recently received calls from Straight Talk about my data usage.Last month they throttled my data so much the last two weeks that pandora wouldn't even load.
I haven't tethered since my alltel days. Then Verizon got ahold of them. Had to go with straighttalk. Saves me about 60$ a month on my not smart Verizon plan with 2 phones

Send both in under warranty. When you unlock the bootloader is states "MAY" void warranty. I haven't heard of anyone yet being refused warranty for an unlocked bootloader. To the contrary, the forums are full of people having no issues. Some people have received replacement phones which they cannot unlock however, so it seems Motorola is trying to prevent anyone in the future unlocking again.

Send in both. Turnaround time with Motorola is actually quite fast, and they should have them two or 3 days max.
I sent in my bootloader unlocked Atrix already (digitizer issues) , but I did use a method found here on XDA to hide the unlocked text from the boot screen.
Good luck.

Sending in wife's soon. I may try a factory reset with hers first. Forgot that I haven't tried that since they updated. I don't mess with her phone much. I am going to get mine back to stock and send it in when hers gets back (only have one backup phone)
Factory reset didn't help. Sent in. It arrived at motorepair friday
Send in both.
On the unlocked one, just flash back to stock. Very simple. Takes 5 minutes. Hides the unlocked text, and "re-locks" the bootloader.
Did that for mine, and Motorola replaced it.
What's the warranty lemgth on these?
One year, but the service rep told me that on this issue if it is not to long over they warranty it anyway.

Sent in wife's phone. It should be back tomorrow. A bit anxious to see if it was fixed or replaced or still messed up. Will post after tested
You can check the service status on the website and it will tell exactly what they did regarding your case.
Good guy moto
I had to send mine in for warranty repair once, I didn't read about the proper way to unlock the bootloader back in the day. Even while rooted with a custom ROM they did a warranty replacement. Hopefully yours comes back okay with no issues.
well the wife's phone is back today. still has same issues. the ones i know of are not connecting to wifi without rebooting. proximity sensor issues. and there is a error force close message that keeps coming up. gues I call moto tomorrow. Back to repair shop in mexico hurray:silly:

If you can find any dead spots with the touch screen, that is another big issue with the atrix.

[Q] Broken Vibration

I bought my M7 brand new from eBay and everything worked fine when I got it. Somehow between unlocking the bootloader, installing recovery, rooting, and installing this (M7 Unofficial T-Mobile 1.29.401.13 OTA GSM Deodex) ROM, the vibration no longer works. I can feel an EXTREMELY faint vibrate. So faint that i had to mute the TV and put my ear to the phone to hear it.
What can I do to try to get this taken care of?

OK so it's definitely busted. I ran the vibration diagnostic (*#*#3424#*#*) mode and ran the vibration test. If I knock the phone around a bit it comes back but never lasts more than a few seconds. Will T-mobile honor the warranty if I bought the phone from eBay and have unlocked my bootloader?
Okay, I had this problem with another phone I had (HTC Sensation 4G). I found myself with little vibrations, so faint that it wasn't noticeable in my pocket. Instead of going back to another stock ROM I left it the way it was. A few days later my speaker shut completely down, so I freaked out and installed a different ROM. Speaker didn't work, vibrations worked though. I called HTC and they told me I screwed something up in the phone's circuitry. My recommendation would be to go to a different ROM, if that doesn't work, go stock, and if you still have problems call HTC.

I reflashed my stock ROM backup I made and its the same thing. I'll text myself and sometimes it vibrates and sometimes it doesn't.
If you have it covered with insurance by T-Mobile then I see why not unroot it, lock the bootloader and return it to T-Mobile. It's sure worth a shot!

Got it off eBay. Whats the manufacturer warranty on these things?
Usually HTC would charge you a hundred something, I usually buy my phones from anywhere other than T-Mobile and still get insured by them. If you've insured your phone it should still be covered through T-Mobile. Try that first because I know to replace a damaged phone through T-Mobile is a sure a hundred dollars and not a day without a phone because it gets replaced in like 1 day if anything.

I just got back from tmobile they told me since I didn't buy it at tmobile and i'm prepaid they can't help me. I'm going to get a refund through ebay. The description stated the phone was new and defect free but it isn't so according to ebay's policies I'm eligible for a refund.
I think I'm going to buy ANOTHER M7, when I get it go to t-mobile to transfer my service to the new one, then send the old one back through ebay buyer protection for a refund. I'll be out almost $600 until the ebay refund goes through though.

if you bought it brand new, its a 1 year warranty with HTC, you can do t his through T-Mobile and they will charge you $20 to call and deal with it for you however, since we dont have SOFF, they will know you rooted it, there is this video that says rooting does not void your warranty so if you can prove to HTC that you rooting did NOT cause this, they shouldn't care

Is this $20 fee documented somewhere? Although I believe you I can't really point to an xda thread as source if the guy in the store says they don't do that.
Also, I'd be out a phone during this process right? And what if HTC tells me that me rooting my phone caused the vibration hardware to malfunction?

Okay then, if you bought it brand new, you have the receipt, you still have HTC 1 year warranty. You put it back to stock, and you tell them there is a problem with your phone. The vibration is off and its too weak. Then thats it. You will be out of a phone, if they do notice its rooted, which they probably wont if you resort it back to 100% stock and lock the booloader thought I am not sure about this, you can try to argue that it started happening way before you rooted it to fix an issue they are at fault here.

I bought it from eBay, no receipt. I could ask the person I bought it from for their receipt I guess. And if I brought it back I would put it back to stock but the bootloader would still say relocked and tampered since we don't have an RUU for t-mobile yet.

Yeah basically so you will have to argue with then that this happened before you flashed the new Rom thinking that would fix it. My phone vibration starts strong and gets weak but it last like a good minute just vibrating in a decreasing way.
.I was considering rooting and flashing the new 1.29 update because ny buttons don't work eithe but since we don't have SOFF they will know

Called Verizon trying for replacement. They said put in safe mode.

I told them that my phone was overheating and would freeze and shut off while on and off the charger after updating to ME7 (which it actually does). They told me to put it in safe mode for 24 hours and see what they find. I know I have to unroot it before putting it in safe mode. Anyone else have to do this to get a replacement? How did it work out for you?
That sounds like BS to me. Someone might tell you this in hopes that you somehow solve your own problem. But, I would just get irate and tell them that it's their responsibility so give me a claim number and tell me where to send the phone.

I called verizon today, talked to the tech told him my phone kept losing 4g service and dropping my wifi signal all the time. Told them I restored it already twice and it didn't fix the issue. Tech said looks like you covered all area's you'll recieve your replacement in 2-4 days.
It's that simple :good:
My replacement phone I just received 2 days ago had no wifi strength and the bluetooth would skip when I was holding the phone (anyone ever heard of that happening?) I called them last night and told them I done everything I was supposed to (factory reset, troubleshooting) they over-nighted me a CLNR got it this morning. I'd call again and ask for someone else because I've never heard of safe mode on the phone-they just didn't want to do their job I believe....
I just wanted to make sure they can't get inside your phone or anything by putting it in safe mode. What should I tell them when I call back. Any messages or info come up when I take it out of safe mode that the tech may ask for?

Four tries before working replacement
I too had overheat problems w/ my phone(s). Including the original phone Verizon sent me four phones before a fulling working one arrived. The certified program, in my experience, is crap. I've gone through multiple models, S4 & Razr MAxx, when phones were replaced for faulty operation. Good news is the last, working, model S4 I recieved was still on MDK. It was rooted within the hour after receiving it. Eclipse ROM and never a problem since. Be persistent, call back as often as needed, and don't take no for an answer. And safe mode, bunch of bull****. Factory reset is only reliable fix. About half the time...

What they said-def keep calling back. I read in a post a few months back about someone saying Verizon was able to get into our phones to help look for the problem not sure how truthful that is-but I would not allow them to hop into your phone they could prob see if you rooted or not. My replacement was MDK thankfully all the bloat they put on these phones really burn me up. And sometimes it does take several replacements before you find one that is perfect-my husband went through 7 Rezound's before he got a good working one. Now I'm the one with the issues LOL
