When I hold the power button to turn the phone on, the screen remains blank. No HTC logo, not even on-but-only-showing-black. I mean blank as in the screen does not even turn on. The phone itself does seem to be on, because after a while of it being "on", when I touch the screen anywhere the phone gives off a slight vibration, however the screen still is blank.
My phone was working just fine yesterday, I have no clue what could have caused this. My phone is (or was) running Android 4.4.2 COMMOTIO, with CWM touch recovery by PhilZ if I remember correctly.

Was the phone dead? Have you tried booting into Hboot/fastboot? When you plug it in do you get a orange light saying charging?
When I plug it into the outlet to charge, the orange light blinks on and off about 20 times then it just stops altogether. I tried hbooting it as well with the volume key + power but no luck.
EDIT: I just read that one should leave the phone plugged in for about 20 minutes before expecting it to take a charge. I will wait 20 minutes or so and report back what happens if anything.
EDIT: IT'S ALIIIIIVVVEEEEE!
Now I will tell how it happened, formatted as green text story
>be me
>be at night
>rezound plugged into wall for like 20 minutes
>no more orange light blinking
>notthiscrapagain.jpg
>unplug phone
>vibrating when I touch the screen
>but screen still off
>decide not to pull battery this time
>set it down for a minute
>screen isn't vibrating to touches anymore
>be like "battery must have ded"
>about to take off back shell
>vibration is felt
>turn phone around so I see screen
>mfw green htc boot logo shows
>mfw kitkat boots up
>thatwasclose.gif
(For those who don't know, mfw="my face when...")
So my guess is that the battery simply must have died while the phone was off. I am not sure about all of your rezounds, but yes, mine does discharge when turned off. Yes, even when it is on airplane mode.
Thanks to pball for attempting to diagnose the issue, by the way .

I'm very much new to this, so please take it easy on the terminology, and insults.. :/ Just to be clear ive never rooted this phone or flashed it or anything like that.
I was using my phone and the battery ran really low and it died. I went to turn it on, and it wouldn't turn on, so i charged the battery for a good hour. I press the power button and it vibrates, but the screen stays black.
after that i tried doing a hard reset, so with the phone in that black screen, i took the battery out so it would turn off. Put it back in, followed the instructions for hard reset from the VZW website (without turning the phone on, because i'm still unable to do so), and nothing happened at all. I gave it a couple tries and still nothing.
Then i took the battery out, put it back in, pressed the power button. I felt it vibrate again like last time. So in this post-vibrate state, without removing the battery, while the screen is still black with no power on, i did the hard reset. It vibrated and then now the 4 touch buttons at the screen illuminated, and the backlight turned on, but the screen itself was still black.
can anyone help me out??

When the phone is completely off. Battery pull. When holding down (Vol Down + Power). Does the HBOOT (white screen) appear or is it still black?

Hello everyone,
I got a question. Yesterday, my phone shutdown do to no more battery. Once I got home (about 1h30 after), I plug-it into my computer for a good slow charge. I noticed the led was blinking red instead of staying on, but I though it was due to critical low battery. After 3 hours, still the same. I try to open it but nothing happened. Then, I noticed that when I touch the screen or button, the phone vibrate.
I then unplug and try again, same thing. I try plug into the wall charger, samething.
Then I proceed to hold the power button for 5 seconds. All three touch button start flashing and stayed on, but no joy, still vibrate when touching anything with screen turn off (not just no backlight, no image at all).
I manage to found out that holding the button nearly 10 seconds, it force a reboot and then was OK and charged at 70%.
I'm wondering what's the deal here. Is it a problem with the stock rooted rom?
Thanks

Hi, Yesterday I was in a concert recording videos of it, I put my LGOG in my pocket and when I took it out again it had a something like a blue screen of death, I don't remember what it said but I rebooted my phone and now it won't turn on.
I plugged it to the AC the whole night and still it won't turn on, when I have it plugged to the AC it shows the LG logo and the boot animation, but then it turns off. When I leave it unplugged it wont even show the LG logo as it where completely discharged...
does anyone know how to fix it? help
Aditional info:
it is rooted and the boot loader unlocked (i can't get into recovery, if plugged I get to the part where you have to press vol-down twice but then it turns off)
ROM : SnowJB v1.1
KERNEL: B18c1 v4.1
Edit: when I plug it to the AC the led doesn't blink, but the screen turns on ans if I press the power button it shows the battery charging animation

Try this
Via LG OG running Rootbox 4.2.2
this happened twice, a although little different.
the first time I left it unused for 24 hours then tried to charge again and it worked normally.
the second time, there wasn't no BSOD, and when it rebooted it didn't showed the boot animation this didn't work, so I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039707
and now it is working again
the second time everything started while I was coping stuff in CWM's UMS......... not recomended....
thanks @xj220gt
Don't record concerts on your phone man, annoying bright little screens. Your phone was just trying to help you out!

Hi All,
I was out a couple of days back and my battery died. No trouble, come back home and charge it up. Worth noting that in recent months battery performance has been poor with a full charge only lasting about 8hours or so. I put this down to a new ROM I flashed as well as natural deterioration (18 month old S3).
Plug into the wall, red charging LED comes on, but the battery splash screen does not. Tried another charger...same. Thinking nothing of it I go to bed and wake up next morning to be greeted by a green charging LED. However, still no battery splash screen. I try to boot...it doesn't. When I "power on" the bottom LED buttons do light up white and go off after a few seconds. When I press the hold button again, they also come on for a few seconds. If i press the hold button while the button LEDs are on, they go off.
This makes me think the screen has broken as both the hold button and the charging LED is doing what it would do...but without any screen activity. However, it was not dropped or put under any pressure in any way. I have opened it up and also made sure the ribbon is undamaged and connected properly. I have tried calling the phone to no avail. It also does not vibrate or make any noises. Perhaps the battery doesn't have enough juice? Its as if its on the battery splash screen, I just cant see it.
I should mention the screen is infact cracked from an incident about 6-8 months ago. It was however, fully functional. Presumably, this will unfortunately stop me from sending it in. It was also using a flashed rom (CM11) and a flashed kernal (Boeffla).
I used a multimeter and measured 3.96v across the battery so that's fine. I can't test the current as I cant break into the S3 circuit and I dont have a resistor on hand to put some load on it.
Next steps?

Try to put it in odin mode (power+vol down+home then press vol up to agree that you are now in odin mode). You should see it in odin.
If you dont see it, your battery or energy system of your phone is broken. Otherwise your screen is probably broken?.

I've managed to get it into download mode and too show up in odin. I can also get it to show the files in Windows if i wait after holding the power button.
This all indicates it is in fact booting up and the screen is broken...
...BUT...no sound...no vibration...and no calls received
Its as if its only half on. Beginning to suspect a catastophic motherboard failure. Is it possible the battery is at fault? Its as if a whole power rail providing for the phone receiver, loudspeaker, vibrator and screen has gone.

Can you try this?
https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
and let it ring?
So, my wifes honor 7 died today.
She had been using it most of the day, but suddenly when she wanted to use it, it was just off. She turned it on and was able to get to PIN screen, but as soon as she pressed the numbers the screen ****ed, gave crazy colors and she could not do anything. She tried to turn it off, and now we cant get it turned on again. All it does when i hold the power button is to vibrate quick after 15 seconds. The screen stays black.
My pc still recognizes when i plug the phone in the usb, and the phone's notification light still shows when the phone is being charged. But i just cant get it to boot.
The screen has been broken for a few months from a drop, but shouldnt be doing this right?
Hoping for some help here, anything is appriciated
