[Q] Usb connector - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have bought a usb connector to connect my flash drives with my phone. Every time i connect the connector i get the message USB connector connected but right after connecting the usb i get SD Card is Damaged. Try Reformatting it.
I used to have Omega rom and it was working fine for a couble of weeks but suddenly the message came up again so i flashed the official 4.3 android for S3. The problem still persists... FYI the phone is rooted and with stock rom and kernel.
Any help?
Thank you

I donĀ“t have the problem with USB flash disk. Format: Fat32

I have tried all kind of format disk but still the message Damaged SD Card shows up..

And did you try another USB OTG or another Flash disk?

Yes i tried 3 usb flash drives and also USB OTG Checker app that gave me positive results about the cable..

I think the problem is with your otg cable. Go to a accessories shop and check it there before you buy it. If it's not with the otg cable then may be it must be with the port
Sent from my GT-N7105 using XDA Free mobile app

I even have two cables and none of them makes the difference
Thanks anw for your responses

Ok i finally figured it out. After a a lot of formatting of my usb drives on windows i tried to format those in my Puppy Linux OS with the same format as before (FAT 32). After that everything worked. Seems like linux can when Windows can't
Thanks for your help hope i helped other facing the same prob.

[Q] USB port usage

Is the USB port on the ViewPad 7 limited to charging?
I inserted a USB memory (using a converter plug) but the VP7 did not recognize it. Has anyone successfully connected something to the port?

Thats's a limitation. USB port on Viewpad 7 is passive, so it can not read external sources.

I do recall someone talking about using a "USB OGO" cable to do something like what you are talking about... Look into it on "android.modaco.com" looks like a modified USB cable and a custom rom will let you attach a flashdrive to your USB port...
hope that helps...
I have one of these When You fist connect USB to PC it installs a virtual cd drive . You can either ignore it or let it install after that Plug in USB while tablet is on ,it will ask you to turn on USB storage tap turn on and SD card shows up on PC as a removable disk you can read and write to with Windows Explorer
Sorry for the Stupid Noob post I misread it.Thought you meant internal storage

No worries mate, I have been able to move files (mainly music) between my PC and the ViewPad, I just found it odd that since it will obviously act as a receiver through the USB port from a PC why wouldn't it receive directly from a USB memory? Obviously I don't know enough about how these things work.
According to some users the viewpad 7 kernel supports usb OTG where the devices acts as the host.

I played this morning with some USB cables and my Viewpad 7 and I found as follows:
1) You need USB OTG cable or USB OTG adapter with USB A female connector at one end and with USB Mini B male connector at second end - that end you should put in Viewpad 7 USB socket. With such a combination Viewpad 7 can read USB flash memories. I will try later other USB devices.
2) it worked fine on tj_style ROM and on Viewsonic stock ROM with Android 2.2.2.
3) Mouse works, but there is no cursor and the selection "jumps" from icon to icon.
4) Wireless keyboard, USB DVD player and USB hard disk do not work.
sorry for the maybe noob Q, but do I have to mount the usb memory or do i directly see the files in a folder...
I use ghost commander and cannot find the containing files...;-/
Thx in advance
--> Problem solved: It was the NTFS-Prob....With fat32 everything works like a charm...(no extra mounting...)

[Q] OTG Cable

Hi Guys&Gals, I have just got an on the go cable for my S2, but every time I connect to the phone and attach the memory stick the phone say's the stick is broken or needs formatting. I have formatted via PC but still comes up broken ect. Can anybody help?
I'm guessing your memory stick is formatted as ntfs. ntfs isn't natively supported, though you can get it to work using scripts and fuse.ko (search the forum).
Or if that sounds like too much effort reformat the stick as fat32 then it'll work.
yes tried that and it still comes up with the same answer, Broken or reformat.
Well if the stick works in a PC, then that would suggest a faulty cable... Have you tried a different memory stick?

[Q] Problem with USB, and Internal SDCard

Hi guys,
i have a little problem here. suddenly my USB port wasnt charging and not recognized in computer also.
i have replaced the USB flex cable and can charge again.
but, another problem came up.
it cannot detected in computer in any way, even in CWM.
another problem is charging mode is always in USB mode never in AC mode, even i plug in into a wall socket.
then i took out the flex cable again and inspect that the new cable is rev.1.x (i forgot) and the broken one is rev 2.2
maybe is that the cause?
okay, another problem is my sdcard is acting weird.
i have dropbox folder in /sdcard/Android/data/com.dropbox.android which take up places about 3terrabytes (yeah 3TB)
i have screenshot to show inside dropbox folder with ftp client.
i know i must format this internal sdcard but i cant connect them to PC.
i try wipe from airdroid, androidlost, AVG mobilation to format sdcard, the result is nothing.
i also trying to format from inside the phone setting and it doesnt work either.
any suggestion until i get the new usb flex cable rev 2.2 (im curious that this version is working fine)
any help will be apreciated
thanks
fik
can anyone help?

[Q] Please Help Ntfs Usb Hdd

Hello to one and all I would like some assistance with regards to a very popular issue with many so called solutions and apps which I believe shouldn't be considering any OS should be able to handle any filesystem.
The device I am using is a Phablet with Android 4.2.2 kernel 3.4.5 and the Hdd is WD My Passport 500GB Portable USB NTFS, I have rooted the device using Framaroot checked with Root checker to make sure and followed the many suggestions using app after app to no avail. When I connect the hdd to the device the light on the hdd is forever blinking making a sound as if it is trying to work but nothing happens and in the upper left corner damaged usb needs reformatting appears.
When I connect a normal Fat32 4gb Usb stick with the cable I use it works perfectly, which is the same cable I got with an older tablet with android 2. something when tablets were fairly new to the general public which worked with my usb hdd then. I have been using a kindlefirehd which has no Usb capabilities ever since so never got the chance or looked into getting the hdd to work with any other device until now. Is there any solution for this device or should I give up trying?
Please Help!
Thank You!
