Hi all. This is my first post and no doubt my question will probably already have been answered so here goes. my Samsung GT-19100 keeps telling me that there is insufficient memory when trying to download. I have plenty of memory spare on the phone 10 gb actually on sd card. I have looked up for answers and seem to have found it, unfortunately I don't know how to go about it. The information I found is saying I need to delete the .odex file in the app data just don't know where to find this file. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank You so much to everyone that has read this. Thanks. Paul.

Is your phone rooted?
If yes, you need a file explorer or file manager like ES File Explorer , or any app like that to find and delete the app .odex file ...

Hi PinkLeviosa, Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post. The information you give doesn't register with me only because I don't understand your question "Is your phone rooted" or "file manager like ES File Explorer" I`m so sorry for not understanding this term please forgive me. Could you please explain in more simple terms. I feel I am in need of step to step instructions "doh" Thank You. Paul.

So, I see.. If you know jailbreaking in apple products, you already know rooting, but they have some differences, please take time to read here

ES File Explorer is a File manager it helps you to move, paste, open files such as .zip , delete files like .odex ... and at the same time its a Root Explorer, Provides access to the entire file system and all data directories, and allows the user to change permissions. You can only unlock its feature like root explorer if your phone is rooted, for more details in ES file manager look here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop
So if you dont know what root is, but now you know, the chances are your phone is not rooted... so i think you cant do your process of deleting the app's .odex but if you please can you try this app i found while searching your problem but it moves the cache of google play store at your sd card and no root is needed... the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.felipearon.marketfix
and one more thing try to clear the cache of your google play store, if still that one dont work, try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2443267 , but i think it needs a root access..
PS: remember use the search button before asking, XDA is your friend as well google:fingers-crossed:

Hi everyone! I'm still relatively new to all these customizations that can be made on these phones, and I am curious about all these .apk files I keep seeing around. Everyone time one is posted, it says to push it to your phone to replace whatever file is there... The thing is, every time I read about it I find a new way of doing it. Some say to use root explorer, some say SGS tools app, some say to use easy installer, and I think I've even read to use ADB? I just was wondering what's the best method? Easiest method? Can you screw your phone up by replacing these files? I keep reading things like if you want to switch a camera in your ROM to a different version, just install the .apk! Or, if you want to use live wallpapers in a ROM that doesn't come with it, here is the .apk for that!
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks guys!

You CAN screw your phone up if you do it to the wrong APK (like /system/framework/framework-res.apk, if you install a bad one, your phone won't boot, but there is an easy fix, nandroid!).
Basically all the methods do the same thing. In Android "Installing" an app is as easy as moving it to the correct location. All of these methods do just that.
The easiest way IS to probably use Root Explorer because you can rename the old one just in case, and it will handle the system read/write mounting for you. Plus GUIs are always easier.
So here's how it works: user apps go in /data/app, and system apps go in/system/app. User apps can't really mess anything up, but be careful with System ones. Live wallpapers, things of that nature usually don't hurt. Camera is ok to mess around with, too.
Edit: my ramblings are probably confusing, don't hesitate to ask me to clear something up
usually most apk files can be installed easily by transferring the file to the root of your internal sd card then go to MY FILES locate the apk file and click on it and it will ask you to install. Thats it. You can also root explorer and just place it in the system/app folder then reboot. I install all of my apks through the first way I mentioned. On my wife's Mytouch4g there is no my files so use Astro file manager. Come to think of it any file manager from the market will do. Good luck...

An apk is a specialized application file used by android (uses the same file headers as .zip files).
You are correct that there are various methods to push or move apk's to appropriate directories with in the phone. now as to which is easier or best, all methods work about the same, though there are minute differences.
If you want to move apk's into a certain directory while using a phone i find it easiest to use a file manager like root explorer that has root permissions to move apks around. keep in mind that when moving system files most often you will have to reboot for the changes to take effect with out bugs.
If instead you want to use a computer personally i find ADB to be the easiest. After installing the android sdk you will have to navigate into the android sdk directory then to the platform-tools directory within the android sdk folder. then in command prompt type " adb push <directory of file on your computer> /<directory of where you want it on your phone> hit enter and all is gravy. keep in mind that pushing/moving files to your phone using adb works the best when in recovery mode.
as to which of these operations is the best is a personal decision personally i like to use adb to move around system files and root explorer for applications.
hope this helps
Thanks guys!! Ok, so just to be sure. I'm currently running the Malice rom, and somewhere in the threads is the LiveWallpaperPicker.apk
So all I have to do is download this, place it on the root of my internal SD card, go into file manager and find it, click on it, and it will ask me to install it? It's really that easy??
Or, should I download root explorer and copy and paste it to a specific place?

For that file you will need to place it in /system/app (it can't be installed normally because it's a system app). So you need something like Root Explorer
I think EStrongs File explorer is a decent free alternative, but when I tried it a couple months ago I had no luck with it so I just bought Root Explorer (good investment)
The guide in my signature touches on this, but BT has you covered. I am also a huge advocate of Root Explorer.
Just take the .apk, move it to system/apps and I reboot, but it may not be necessary... no need to click on it and select install, as BT referenced.
Thanks so much everyone! Just purchased root explorer and will try this out.
IT WORKED IT WORKED IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After I rebooted, none of my widgets could load, but I have live wallpapers again! I love learning new stuff! Thanks sooooooooooooooooo much! You guys are the BEST!!!
Odd about the widgets. Were you able to just remove them and re-add them back?
Yep, just deleted them off my home screen and added them back again. All of them had errors saying widget could not load
OK, i really did look n im just more confused so feel free to tell me how too inexperienced i am to be trying "all things root" as long as u follow that w/ the answer.
So i want to install "setCPU" zip file from this site cuz i dont currantly have a bank account (long story-cash,fine-debit/credit,no) so i assumed i could treat it just like an upgrade (thru CWM) but apparently not so... i checked but posts all seemed to be 4 non-root? Or for GAPPS? SDK? apk files-android package...?(is that the same as zip...or similar? ...GAPPS?...google apps maybe? im so lost i'd have to do a weeks worth of researsh b4 i get results...
Orrr, i could ask u guys n get results n knowledge simultaneously...this suits me better as ive allways learned by asking exhaustive questions coupled w/ research, So... how can i achieve this?
Oh i did see 1 post where it said to un-zip n place on sd n open w a file mgr. but i had already tried this. i tried to open w/ appInstaller, but it couldn't be found. Why cant i treat as upgrade? is there any particular place on sd card to put it? Is the "read me" me file necessary? should i place both files in folder?
[also do i really need to subscribe to my ow threads to be saved? why arent my posts auto-saved as in other sites or are they?where? ....u guys must hate me]
You are over-complicating things. You just have to first unzip the file to access the APK, then install it as you would any other application. No updating/flashing/whatever required. I used Astro file explorer to unzip it and then again to install it after downloading it to my TBolt. I'm sure other file explorers have the same capabilities.
You do know SetCPU is free for xda members right?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
CRAAAAP! im sorry all i had to do was read!!!! in my defence other "read me" files have seemed to say absolutely nothing. please dont ban me yet... i'll get btr
yeah thanks really i tried all of that but this is how dumb i am: 1st all i had to do was open and read 2nd when i figured out wat to do the hard way cuz i wouldnt read, i had my phone plugged in to PC so app intaller couldnt read it duh.. thnks 4 responding tho
k so i installed then uninstalled so i could try something new. Does anyone know how to do this maually as im trying to be more knowledgeable n resourceful. i got to the part where i have to "navigate to the directory where the setcpu.apk is found" and type in command line to install... and im lost.
how do i navigate anywhere? all i can do is type. after i type "adb devices" a bunch of script pops up w/ my device info but no "setcpu.apk." above.
I read the 1st post but your kinda getting me lost. I have a couple questions.
1. What are you trying to do?
2. Why is there a zip?
3. Are you trying to install setcpu?
If you're trying to install setcpu click on the link I gave you a couple post up. The link will direct you to a post where SetCPU is free and in an apk format. Download the apk onto your phone and install it using whatever file explorer you want to use. Open the file explorer and find the SetCPU apk and install it. FYI If you are not rooted SetCPU will not work. You must hit menu, setting, applications, and allow (check) unknown sources.
no i figured it out. it was a zip file w/ apk n directions i didnt bother to read cuz i thought it was just credits or watever. i was do'n everything right but my file manager wasnt reading anything at the time (i was so frustated that i prob. had phone plugged in to PC n just didnt realize) cuz it worked later...
NOW i want to do it the hard way... i KNOW- stupid but i gotta start somewhere. i cant find the directory where setcpu is located in ADB but i'll figure it out. Suggestions welcome but its certainly not pressing im just OCD thanks 4 all the help
anyway your way wouldve been much easier. i guess i missed the link earlier
You've gotta put the apk in the platform-tools folder. Mine would be C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools. To navigate adb to that folder I type cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools in command prompt. Hey you know there's a "ADB for dummies" thread, right? LOL I used it when I first learned. Here's another adb tutorial

Ok.to install "setCPU" I did Wut was suggested above. After I type the 1st command it repeats the "sdk" directory (i think its called) bak to me n on that line I typed:
"adb install setcpu.apk"
Then it says:
"can't find 'setcpu.apk' to install.
I have the .apk (unzipped) file in the "platform-tools" folder. Wut am I do n wrong?

Hi all,
I am having issues with copy and paste on my stock ROM. According to Clipper, nothing goes into the clipboard when I cut/copy text. I've tried this in S Memo, Gmail, Chrome, Messaging and Whatsapp, so it should be a system issue. Is anyone else having similar problems? Mine is running PDA: I9305ZHALI8. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!
Not mine. I've tried copying text from webpage to search bar, and even copied some text from Gmail to Whatsapp.
But...does I9305ZHALI8 exist? Mine is ZHALI7.
Where's your S III LTE brought from? Mine is HK.
Edit: Seen the upgrade. I decide not to upgrade first.
Fix
I hade the same problem, but i found a salution.
First open upp any root explorer app.
data and look for the folder named clipboard.
delite that folder and boot your phone in to recovery mode.
then you fix permissions.
hoped i helped
ansonscleung: I just upgraded today hoping that the update would fix this copy paste issue, but unfortunately it does not. I was on I9305ZHALI7 for almost two weeks.
Curwer: Thanks for your fix! I was hoping I wouldn't have to root but if I may have to do so if it really gets on my nerves...
sry I dont know any other way to fix this, maybe factory reset will but i´m not 100% on that :/

So i have finally rooted my phone through CF Auto root method, and im happy i can access anything on the phone.
first thing i wanted to do is get rid of the samsung Keyboard, as it got stuck to being default after every restart.
So got into /system/apps/samsungIME.apk and removed it. I use ES file explorer with root access.
Job done, now i have the smart keyboard pro on and happy with it
Lets say i want to reinstall the SamsungIME.apk
reinstalling it is not a go im afraid. If i try to reinstall it from my ext.Sdcard, it says installation failed
If i copy and paste it in the same folder, it says: parsing error, unable to extract or something.
So my question following quite a bit of search is : in general, when trying to reinstall samsung apps, will this occur all the time?
Do i have to do something in addition to get it to work?
i saw someone mention in a different thread (I9100 i think) about chaning something in the build prop which i couldnt find anyway, and others talking about permissions
With ESfile explorer, i havent found the 'permissions' aspect of things, as all i have to do is allow ES to enter the root explorer through SU and then i dont get any other question about allowing permsissions to save/install and application.
many thanks and please excuse me if my questions are very childish for experiences users, as this is the first time i have entered this field!

Reinstalling ANY SYSTEM APK would mean that you would have to push it to the system. Here is a YouTube video on how to do it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJGbiSkom9M

Looking at the video, es file explorer does something similar, but it hasnr worked. Does this mean I have to buy the root explorer software?
Edit: I just downloaded root explorer and saved the apk according to the info. Keyboard hasn't installed though. I wonder if I have to tranfer the obex file as well
Edit 2: transfered the obex file as well, still didn't install. I can see the apk in there but its not installing.
And to finish this, I did excactly the same with the obex file and it worked. My samsung keyboard is back so again
MANY THANKS!

So after updating to Android JB 4.2 I can no longer write to the ' SdCard/Android/Obb ' directory.
Can anyone confirm if they are having this problem too? Is it due to this stupid and annoying feature that google has now implemented that they wish to check all .apk files before they are able to be installed? I turned this off in settings but it seems that it turns itself back on again after every reboot?
I cannot write to the directory from my PC via USB cable or even through a root app despite the phone telling me that I have -Rw access to the folder and all of it's subfolders etc.
I even tried writing via Linux but it doesn't work either... even if I try and force a write.. plus I cannot access the internal memory when the phone is booted down...
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
Think you need to have root Explorer to write to obb
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Before upgrading I could write to the directory from either my PC or Root Explorer or Solid Explorer. Now I can't seem to write to it at all. So it's not that unfortunately...
R: [Q] Can no longer write to Android/Obb in JB 4.2?
As far as i can remember u can edit the obb directory even without root....but i'm an android kinda novice.
Try another file browser from the phone (the one from rhythm software is very good).
Might also be that problem with directory permissions that get mixed up to which clockwork mod always refers to (they have an option to fix directory problems).
Android, i have noticed, can get corrupted easily, have you done some serious modding to your cel phone or just root and small patching?

I've been trying a string of different things for a couple of days...
I've tried root explorer pro, when I press copy it finishes instantly but nothing is happening.
R/w is on..
I tried solid explorer pro, it instantly says "the file(s) could not be copied"
Tried "Fix Permissions" from CWM...
Tried copying from Windows. It copies up to 99% then says: "The directory is no longer available, it may have been removed"
The connection is fine, and I can copy to all other folders no matter where. EXCEPT for this folder..
I am 99.9% sure that it's due to this annoying new Android Guard thing in the settings that asks to scan everything. Even if I turn it off, I bet that it still has some sort of affect. It's probably just denying all writes from outside an accepted source..
This really angers me. I don't want my phone to have ANY directories that I cannot write to. Especially seeing as I have to often copy files back and forth from this folder when I make updates to the 2 games I am developing..
There was no problem before updating to 4.2 and this Android Guard thing.
I'm willing to try all suggestions.. Thanks

I'm using Android HD Revolution. It's apparently an 'official leaked' one with just the 'improvements' that Mike etc. do.
Thanks also for your reply. I'm trying to keep my device current so I can stay on top of releasing updates, but I really can't do that if I can't fix this issue. I've put it off for awhile now but it's really stalled the development process /tear

If you mean using ARHD 30.* that is not official, that is the leaked version of 4.2.1, that mike has tweaked
Before flashing ROMs, read changelists carefully please:good:
Ok well then I missed the play on words, it's not 'official' but it's a leaked version. Mike, or whoever updates the thread doesn't usually provide a very verbose changelog.
So I take it that absolutely no one here on XDA has any idea as to why I cannot write to this 'specific' area in my partition?
I have the same problem with Galaxy S4. I rooted the device but this didn't help.
I have tried loading files to obb in Windows 7, ES File Explorer, AntTek Explorer - but no results.
Edit://
I solved my problem using AntTek Explorer (root) and the path is next:
Device root/storage/sdcard0/android/obb - then I had permissions to copy files there.
I hope it help.

Hope that helps..
reading changelogs doesn't help the problem..
and @leijonasisu probably it would've been bad flash.. but before i say that you should change rom and check once again.. you gotta see if there was any write protection to the specific folder.. so try using an FTP client, if you still cant get access, then you gotta change the rom and try again
