Is it possible to repartition the internal memory to remove the emulated sdcard and have more space for apps (I want to use my real SDcard)?
:silly:
(my phone is a LG L9II)
i wish it was that easy

i believe its not possible yet but
i like your thinking
also you might ask kernel developer to try to remove all commands that emulate the sdcard and update links to sdcard to choose external sd

Is there any way to install the app in external SD card instead of internal SD card in 2.2?
I have used Archangel for temporary root.

I would like to know myself.
No, and why?
The external SD-Card is mounted way after the OS is booted and esp. Widgets are unusable that way.
Why do you think you want that?
well imho thats just semi right - as u could use propably some script like the app2sd script I use on my wildfire wich does exactly that.
(im not sure how it works exactly but it moves apps to sdcard and injects a symlink i think - but not sure)
Anyway with the symlink method u nearly should be able to move any app u want...
But it would need some custiomisation propably as our 1st "virtual" sdcard is the /mnt/storage and the sdcard is mountet beneath...
Anyway the short answer still sounds: NO
And the use of this is really: USELESS - as the sdcard propably is slower then internal memory + we got enough memory for ANY app u want so stick with the way it's done now...
Hey guys! I found some videos on YouTube and learned something about partitioning of the sdcard. And I believe that we need to choose some ext. partition of 128,256 or 512mb and do some swapping things. Will that actually increase the internal space on our phone? Can someone show me a thread regarding this or give me a detailed explanation??? Thanks!
Some ROMs have this feature implemented. (Void, megatron, etc) Nothing new...

So will it increase internal storage space???
It doesn't increase it. The apps will install on sd card and you will have more free space on internal storage.

Is it the same as Apps2sd?
Yes. App2sd needs that ext partition. Otherwise the phone simply uses the entire memory card with FAT filesystem.

Do you mean the original 2GB SD has ext partition? I think there is only one partition although I can use apps-to-sd in my P500. What is the real benefit by using more than one partition?
Yeah I would like to know that too!

No, rikux, the original card only has FAT partition.
EXT type partition should be created only if you plan to use app2sd with a custom ROM.
In case things are not clear, App2SD is a feature that moves installed applications onto the memory card. There are two ways of using it:
1. Simple install of the app from the market. Now you got yourself a nice little batch mover from internal memory to the card. It can not move apps installed as services and widgets. You could move the apps yourself, but you can only do it one by one - so there's where Apps2SD comes in handy because it lets you do it all at once. All clear so far, OK?
2. A more sophisticated use of this feature, actually called "a2sd" and used in the custom ROMs. What it does is tricking the phone into believing it has more internal memory available. But all this extra space must come from somewhere, right? Thus, this space it's taken from the memory card under the appearance of an EXT partition. Why EXT, I don't know - probably in order not to confuse the phone with two FAT partitions. Now, when you install an application, the app goes to the internal memory but physically it's hosted on the SD card... get it? No more "moving to SD card" necessary, because now if you choose to MOVE an app from the "internal memory" to the "SD card", what you're actually doing is moving it from the EXT partition to the FAT partition. Moreover, now even service apps and widgets go to the SD card, and everything happens automatically.
rikux, you're falling in the first case above.
AsherChua, what you've seen on Youtube fits in the second case above.
I really hope you understand now the differences, and the utility.
Masteryx thanks very much for the good explanation.
As I am not going to use any custom ROM, the Froyo 2.2 inbuild capability to install2SD one by one is enough for me. So it seems like I don't need any more partitions.
The question still remains, are these "App2SD" and "a2SD" somehow more efficient than the standart Froyo apps2sd, which cannot install all apps to sd and if it can then only a part of app is in sd. I assume methode 1. and 2. can install all apps to sd.
Still one question as my 2GB original SD is quite full allready. Is it OK to copy all from the original SD to a bigger SD with PC card reader? Can the new SD be formatted in PC and is FAT32 OK?
Method 1 can install on the card only the apps that Froyo allows, not all of them. Method 2 installs all of them on the card.
About the new card: yes, it will work just fine. Just make sure you copy everything, including the hidden files and folders.
I suggest formatting the new card in the phone. Let it "decide" what kind of FAT system should be used. I know that FAT32 is a bit more reliable, but the phone manual clearly states that the card should use FAT16 (aka FAT) file system. I'm pretty sure both will work exactly the same, so do as you please.
Thanks masteryx for the brilliant answer! One question though,I'm using megatron and it has apps2sd 'preinstalled' in that rom. So can I say that I have case 2 enabled too?

Yes, you do.
Right thanks!
I recently took the the plunge and flashed my first non-stock ROM. Went with turl's CM9 Kang (v8). I noticed that the mounts are different than stock in regards to the internal storage and my external card. I understand that using emmc for internal and sdcard for external is more "proper", but it now appears that every app that wants to write data is writing out to my external card. Presumably because /mnt/sdcard was the internal storage on stock, but now is not. I noticed a setting under Storage->Storage Configuration called 'Use internal storage'. I found some mention of it in the dev thread, but would like to know what this does. Does it simply flip the mounts so that apps will write data to the internal storage? I would have liked to have just my music, videos, documents, etc. on the external and all the app data internal...otherwise that 11GB is pretty much going to waste? And, yes, I could just try changing the setting (currently off) and rebooting, but I'm not really interested in my apps resetting all their external data again. Looking for enlightenment. As always, thanks in advance.

What does this do? You'll have to excuse my hesitation when someone just says" flash this".
If you wanna to use internal memory as primary memory you have to flash this ZIP.
SDcard will be mount as emmc, internal memory will be mount as SDcard (the same like with any Blur rom)

Is there any program to switch that around?
I have programs that can only access sdcard (e.g. for audiobook listening). I need to place my external sdcard somewhere in the sdcard folder to be able to use it.
I have tried to adjust the vold.fstab, but it won't save the file after adjustment.
Hope you can help. Thanks in advance.
I believe similar matters have been discussed but I could not find a concrete answer.
As you all know A116 has Phone Storage (0.98GB); Internal SD Card (1.76GB) and External SD Card (mine is 20GB).
I want to swap Phone Storage with Internal SD Card as I have massive issues downloading even small apps. Phone Storage is currently showing 60MB available.
I have unrooted the phone using farmaroot and I have tried to play around with vold.fstab using ES File Explorer. What that (swapping sdcard0 with sdcard1 in the script) does is swap Internal SD Card with External SD Card. The Phone Storage issue still persist.
Could anyone help, I believe the solution could be -
a) Swap Phone Storage with Internal SD Card
b) Re-partition Phone Storage and Internal SD Card, combine them and make just one partition.
Thank you
Extend phone storage

I guess u meant "rooted my phone".
Also the method u mentioned swap internal memory with external memory(i.e memory card) but doesn't touch phone storage
but thanks to awesome kaydee we have a solution

I have myself used this mod and my phone storage is now 2.5 gigs isn't that awesome
But make sure u follow each step and don't forget to do nandroid backup as u vl b losing all ur data :good:
All the best!!
@Sana_Khan,
If you need more /data space just repartition your device, there's a tutorial on how to do it in the apps section.
Also something is using your memory there in a weird way, there should be 600MB left, where are they? Check through /data with root explorer what's occupying all your space there...

Hi GroovyG thanks for the response. It is indeed weird as by looking at the pic I attached I should have 600MB left. But I believe all the operating system files are stored on phone storage and that seems hidden. This sounds logical to me as well.

Thanks. Yes, I meant rooted my phone. I will give it a shot but it does seem very complicated process. I will need to arrange a windows machine as well as I have macbook. Is there a macbook based software solution you are aware of?
I am surprised there isn't an easier solution to this.

As of now I don't know any mac-book based software but i would say u really give it go. U can run windows on a Virtual machine or could borrow ur frnd's laptop. Actually, only flashing tool available for CHD is spflash tool which is on windows but, if u know any mac based flash tool than u can do the same thing with that too.
Also the process is not at all difficult if u read through his post...don't forget the checkout the comments it might help u sometime
Thank you for looking onto this post!
Is Apps2sd/Link2sd still working with MM? I tried to use Apps2sd to create mount scripts since it's not working for Link2sd. It worked and I can link app datas and files into the Sd card. However, since I partitioned the SD card with one Fat 32 for storage and one ext2/ext4 (tried both), only the ext partitions work and the primary partition Fat32 can't be read by the phone. Leaving me with only a 2nd partition for linking and a corrupt primary partition/sd card as MM reads it. Is there a way around here since my phone is nearly full on internal. TY in advance!

What you would want to do is reformat your SD card so it's all one partition and enable Adoptive Storage.
This app should help with that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superthomaslab.rootessentials&hl=en
Keep in mind, Adoptive Storage will encrypt your card so it will only usable by that phone unless you reformat it again, but it's a way cleaner and better set up option that the hacked way Link2SD works. No offense to the app as it is very useful in many situations, but Adoptive Storage is a feature made by Google and is built into Android 6+ but for some phones has to be enabled via ADB commands or an app (that just automates the process for you). AS makes it so your phone sees your SD card as the internal storage and works just like it. You should have a fast SD card for this to work best. Like SDXC type. Don't use a regular class 4 SD card.

Hello! Thanks for the reply and I guess I have no choice. I did adoptive storage and the app you gave worked well! But my adopted storage and SD card has the same name and confuses me at times. Is there a way to rename it? Also, how can I move apps from my internal to adopted? And is there a way to automatically install apps on adopted? Thank you!
My understanding is that once you have the adoptive storage set correctly then the phone should register that as part of the regular phone's storage.
