You'll need to edit system files to increase the sound output of the external speaker (it would effect everything the speaker plays, from ringtones to music). It's pretty easy to do on Touchwiz 4.4.2, but I haven't messed around with AOSP.
You can check the instructions I posted here (for increasing sound output in Touchwiz) and see if the file/process would be the same for AOSP.

No guarantee it'll be the same, but might be worth checking out. Back everything up first of course!

When i raise the vol in the player poweramp after few pushes the vol is going down and than again going up...
Is there a way to fix it?
It happens to me only in this player

Yes. This happens because of dvc. Its a setting in poweramp that improves the equalizer. To turn it off go to settings/audio engine/advanced and unchecked it.

Go to settings-> audio engine
Set replay gain to apply gain/prevent clipping, source to album, and both preamp settings to some positive value. Depending on the tablet or phone I use between 1.5 to 3.0 dB. That should do the trick, along with having to turn off Direct Volume Control. Not all devices have that weird problem with DVC.
I fix it editing sound tabel. Samsung using 30 value, depend google & Cm 15.
But if u do it other sound ( movie, youtube) have low volume.
Its annoying, btw DVC provide awesome sound.

Voodoo louder work just fine.
I have heard that the Beats audio (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728391) works for some and distorts for others. I was able to get it to install but haven't really tested it.

I messed with the volume using xxTweak on Ktoonsez's fluxx and ended up destroying sound on my phone calls. I got it back after resetting to default, fixing permissions and rebooting but I've been reluctant to mess with settings without knowing how I messed them up the first time. Not sure what corresponds to what in the options.

Max volume on S2 is way too low, and the easiest solution for me was to use Voodoo Louder from Play market, but it's not a free app (you install a free app that will test compatibility and then you have to buy a license file to use it, and your phone has to be rooted).
Dorimanx kernel had the loudest sound

It wasnt always like that, and besides, why is there no difference AT ALL between the max volume and 7 levels below that?

Does it work with slim 3.1.0
It's a known bug in headset, you'll reach max volume at halfway.
Dorimanx 7.4.2 should be good for you and has headphone power and separate gain adjustment.
You won't really get any more out of the stock speaker though it's not great.

I had the same problem with Ressurection Remix 3.1.2 with CM10 kernel, and volume was really low... I'm on the leaked JB now (NeatRom Lite 4.0) and volume change all the way to max, but still a bit too low, and Voodoo Louder fixed max volume both in RR and NeatRom.
I would have tried the Dorimanx kernel if I knew it fixed the volume...
im using ExTweaks or STweaks for sounds boost

hi
the first versions of mxplayer had a possibility to increase the sound above the predefined highest level, which it was effective in some musics and videos, but there were also media files of which the loudness didn't improved.

On Touch Wiz roms, I was able to edit the default volume output through a system file, but I haven't been able to find anything like that for cm10.1
Does anyone know of a solid way to increase headphone volume for aosp?

Install a kernel that supports voodoo sound and find the voodoo apk with a Google search.
Some people state that voodoo sound is not supported on note2 but it works for me. My sound is great!

Hi guys. Currently using a custom rom that has DSP Manager. Actually i havent touch anything on DSP manager. I am just concern that when i play music in highest volume on speaker, the sound gets distorted. Anyway to fix this?

The speaker can't take the load, hence distortion. Lower the load by decreasing yhe volume. You possibly can lower just the bass but this isn't how the music was intended to be heard do it raises questions about the point

hmm. the "Enable Bass" is turned off the speaker still distorts on my cm rom. when I use touchwiz rom/stockbased custom roms, even though I max out the volume the speaker, the sound doesn't distorts. hmm I think I should go back to the stockbased custom rom.
There's a graphic eq there too. To fine tune specific frequencies.

Stock has the default_gain file that stops speaker overload .

Lots of people have reported poor sound quality on aosp Roms, try another kernel possibly and have a real good play around with sound tweaks if you can be bothered, or return to stock and enjoy
