Okay, I know the odds of this happening are pretty low and at this point, pretty undesirable due to Windows Phone 7/7.8 being so out of date....but, HTC HD2 has been known to Dual-boot with Android and Windows Phone OS (and now devs even have it running Windows RT!), but what is so special about that phone that allows it to run these two OS's but not other HTC devices?

Anyone remember the fiasco with missing video drivers for the 6800?
I was wondering if there has been any progress from HTC, or from individual users, in providing some basic video drivers for the Mogul.
I can't stand the sluggish UI! What options do I have? What have you guys done to your phones to make it better?
Also, I've been running Android 1.0, and it seems like it runs OpenGL ES demos just fine. So does Android have its own drivers for Qualcomms, too?
Edit: Is Android *capable* of being flashed to the Titan? Being run without the overhead of Winmo? And does Winmo actually run entirely in the background? That sounds awful!
the MSM7xxx drivers were released at least for most devices but i dont know if titan supports them. if you have tested wm6.5 latest releases you'll see it runs pretty good for a device that was actually for wm5.
on the android thing, i guess it is "possible" to flash android but its too dangerous so i think that might be the reason it hasnt been done.
winmo doesnt run in background, after Haret is executed it shutsdown winmo completly, if this is not done then android cannot be ran due to the lack of ram.
ok so i recently seen a video of the galaxy tab running windows 7 why cant we ? just wondering

Why would you want to and this belongs in q&a, general or heck even in the Galaxy Tab forum...

Windows NT is what most of the Windows versions that we care about today are based from, including XP and 7. Windows NT supports the x86 and other processor architectures. Unless we can get an x86 emulator, we will NEVER EVER see Windows 7 running on an ARM processor. It is also closed-source, so we can't get the source code to compile to ARM. And the documentation for the kernel and other components of Windows are secretly kept somewhere at Redmond, so even if we get the source, it will be an infinite pain to get everything working for this new architecture (things like HAL, hardware abstraction layer, which is specifically for PC hardware and who Windows depends on heavily). I can't begin to explain everything that will need to be magically fixed in order to get working. Windows 7, or any other Windows version, will never work on a platform that it was not intended to work on (unless, we do get a virtual machine and some hardware compatibility)
Windows CE will be much easier to port since it was intended for mobile ARM computers. If this does happen, we can get Windows Mobile working. But all of this crap is completely non-public, so keep dreaming.
*I probably didn't get everything in this post correct (like the part about HAL) but the conclusion is completely correct. Basically Windows 7 will never reach a device unless it's a PC.
You mean the actual OS or just the theme? There are Windows 7 themes already for Android. And yeah, why would you wanna bother putting Windows on an Android device?
o cool like the title said just a thought but why i would want it on our device is becuase it looked cool running on the tab so and i like windows so i would probably enjoy it

Dude, seriously you should've just bought a Windows phone like an HD2 or something if you like windows that much.
I mean personally to me, the whole point of buying an android phone is to NOT have a Windows OS or even a Windows GUI..........just sayin.

Nope I love android but what I was saying and suggesting is having both systems running and can switch back and fourth not saying I like windows phones more than android just seeing if it or anything like it,is possible

maybe it is just me, but dual-booting was still cool in 1999, not anymore.
Stick to one OS on the device, be it a PC or a phone.
Last time I cared for Windows was again 1999 when I used UPS software to send the packages, and wished it was upgraded from Windows 3.1 to at least Windows 95 - and then I went to continue my education, and it was the end of the windows era for me
If you want to use both windows and android, why not get an HD2 and have it dual boot?
I'm pretty sure if you saw Windows 7 on the tab then it was probably some kind of remote access software, and not running natively
Hai guys
got a silly question - I was posting here and i was thinking, if thats possible (most likely if proper drivers available), and if somebody tried that already - especially considering that the Atrix has hardware specs like a netbook with SSD.
comments?
I mean that would be the ultimate show-off, plug your Atrix into a standard desktop Monitor, and windows 7 Boots up!!!!
cheers

You could never run the full OS of Windows 7, it is made for x86/x64.
The Atrix is ARM. The only Windows 7-series OS that COULD work is Windows Embedded Compact 7. It is the latest evolution of Windows CE. Any desktop windows apps would need to be ported to this OS to work anyway.
Would it be possible to put windows 7 or xp onto the Gtablet, or Mac 9.x or later for that matter? I don't know the amount of space needed for those operating systems but I do know that it would take more memory than the gtab has to offer.

No for a number of reasons.
Definitely no for Win7 or XP...code is not ARM compatible & probably the same for MAC OSX. Apple also codes for specific hardware, thats way their OS is less suseptible to breaking from adding lots of differnt hardware.
Code is also so big that it would undoubtedly not fix.
And finally the Tegra simply isn't up to running bloated Windows & Mac programs that would suck the life out of your battery. Both cores of the Tegra would be runnning maxed out all the time if was code compatible.
May be possible with Win8 & quad core & greater Tegra's in the future though since MS is working to make Win8 Arm compatible.
No one interested in porting Windows Phone 7.x to the Dell Streak?
Trigger for me is the perfect working port on the HTC HD2, where both Android and Windows Phone 7.x are running. On this phone the Windows Phone version realy runs smoothly, far more better than the Android version.
My conclusion would be that since Android run smoothly on the Dell Streak, Windows Phone should really fly on our device!
So, is it (im)possible?

it is not that we dont want to port.. but the thing is no working driver for streak 5... so... you have to understand this...
Well, was worth to try. Just couldn't imagine the impossibility since the HTC HD2 is able to run both. But the lack of working drivers is indeed a valid point. Well, I'm happy with my DSC 1.4 on my streak, so sticking on this version.

I like your post! I was a die-hard "win-mo" every since my first htc tilt. But when the tilt-2 whipped my รคลก$ after 3 replacements I swore off and went to "Stepford Mens Association" and was cloned into an android and loved it every since! Never in a million megabytes had one decimal of interest in crapple phonage. But would like to see your idea in action. Cool !

you cant compare device that come from default windows vs native android you know... there also licensing issues might surface up whenever we involve ourselves in windows product you know.. that includes the driver.. you know those giant really have no mercy if it does not profits them :silly:
Hahahahaha......when you post the rom then microsoft will send you a legal letter.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Licenses are the least of the issue, it's all drivers.
The HD2 and the tsunagi are the only non WP7 devices to get WP7, do you want to know why? Because microsoft and HTC/Toshiba made the drivers as those were the devices they used when they were initially building WP7.
The HD7 is basically a HD2+WP7, but they're different enough that the HD2's cam still has issues (or so I hear).
The only (realistic) way you're going to get WP7 at this point is to build a time machine and go back and convince dell to convince MS to reuse the S5 as a WP7 device in the same way the venue/venue pro are a pair.
