Hey guys.. and gals. I have finally took the dive again and decided to build my own personal ROM. I present to you The.Emilio Unchained AOSP. This ROM is built on Linux Mint 17 directly from AOSP source. This is a pure AOSP experience.

Compiled with ART as default runtime (dalvik still available in developer options)
Reset status bar size to default (noticed some UI glitches that were bugging me)

Merged latest commits from AOSP source master branch (lots of changes to run smoother)
Edited navigation bar and status bar to a smaller dpi (more visually appealing to me and allows more actual on screen)

Superuser must be flashed as the recovery script is still intact. Fashing SU in the same session will prevent the recovery being overwritten.
If /system is mounted in recovery, you may get an error flashing the gapps package. Just unmount the /system partition and flash gapps again.
1.) Perform factory reset
2.) Flash ROM, GAPPS, and latest SuperSU
3.) Reboot
4.) Profit

What is PRL/Profile, exactly? Is it the User Switcher Quick Settings tile? Or the dialer profile?
Edit: I'm stupid. Nevermind.

Yep. Its only 163 because gapps are not included (since it is source built and not based on the factory image like other ROMs posted). So be sure to flash the gapps linked. Any will do, but I prefer the PA version as it is most up to date.
Let me know what you think. Aside from what is listed as not working, it is fully functioning.

Cool. Let me know if all is good on GSM side too. Calls, mms, sms.. the usual stuff. Went in to this blind but I assume if it works for me on Sprint it would work on the GSM side too.
Wow very nice indeed. Can't wait to try this out. Your name, good sir looks familiar, did you used to develop/use og evo, anywho, thanks again mang.

Yep! OG Evo it was. Made Unchained on that years ago based on CM 7. Last time I did any sort of development for a device. Wow that was a long time ago lol.
I get this after flashing the ROM:
E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/aosp_hammerhead-ota-eng.actofgod.zip'
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/aosp_hammerhead-ota-eng.actofgod.zip'
Not sure what happened :T

Guessing TWRP and you had wiped the system partition. If you wipe system it mounts that partition. Restart back in to recovery and flash again or go back to the main recovery screen, select mounts and unmount system then flash again :good: I will put in a command to unmount system before flashing in the script so this error can be avoided.

To confirm, unmounting system fixed it? Or did you reboot back to recovery and flashed again?
In regards to the app, yeah I noticed that too. Typically, it auto downloads everything when you run the same ROM. Any future updates to the same ROM will still save the info, so when you wipe and flash to the same ROM but an updated version, it will automatically restore. In this case, it is a brand new ROM and a start over is basically all that can be done. Once you've set everything up it should automatically restore on any subsequent build I put out. Best thing I can suggest in the future is titanium backup so you can restore app and app data. :good:
It is also one way to tell who is using the same base.

Just download, put it in your build folder, open it in a text editor and fill in the blanks/y or n, save and type ./daavvisbot.sh, and let it build for you... even set up to move everything to a storage folder, or an ftp server when its done

Hmmm let me try and see if the same thing happens to me
Edit, nope Verizon HTC one does not do it...
What's happening is something is wiping your dv cache or regular cache on every boot... Did you use titanium backup? You could try wiping your caches in recovery ... Anyone else have this problem?

Mine doesn't do it either. Did anyone read the post about how changing the device in build.prop from m7att to m7 the front facing camera is fixed. I can confirm there is no hue. Just an FYI.

my guess is a conflict between helium and 4.3.1, or possibly something you have set inside helium... a setting perhaps
truth is i hate all those auto backup apps, i think they are the devil and cause way more problems than time they save... just pick and chose what data you want to back up from the /data folder and re- add when you wipe... and you only have to do that when switching roms...
just my personal opinion....
on a side note, UPDATES

Dang. Have they added quick settings customization yet? I'm pretty happy on 4.3 Slim right now, but now you're tempting me with 4.4 once again.
HTC seems pretty on the ball for 4.4 though, so I'm hoping we can get something official soon that'll help work out our device's AOSP kinks, pending Verizon certification (multiple expletives deleted).

Can you add the TWRP recovery that was updated yesterday in the CM11 thread? It works fine.
Outside of the mods, is there any difference between this and the other 4.4 ROM in terms of stability and performance?

I had the same problem with this and another ROM. Try this
1.Wipe Data/Factory Reset
2.Format the following:
/data
/system
/cache
/dalvik
Do not format /sdcard

You might try the trick mentioned in the unofficial 4.4 thread. My recollection (see that thread for full details):
go into data settings
using dropdown menu - enable airplane mode
disable data
verify RUI/SIM setting (think)
using dropdown menu - disable airplane mode
enable data

Yeah, I had it all worked out on CM11. Data was working fine. I did all the tricks mentioned. After about 15-20min, it finally connect to data. I am however using the updated TWRP. Thanks guys, just took a while for data to connect.

The camera app was missing for me from the app drawer. I tried the camera from the lockscreen and it didn't even show a live preview. I restored back to CM11 since that 4.4 ROM is pretty much bug free. But as far as I can tell so far with this ROM data is wonky and no camera..... didn't test much else.

I guess i turned into a noob over night..
I can not get this to take. cm-11-20131116-unofficial.zip, it hangs then i loose boot.. Good for me, that i have a backup.
I downloaded cwm recovery 4.0.4, but it's not compatible with viperDna 4.2.2......
I have twrp v2.5...
Golden question, What is a noob to do?
Thanks
So far so good. updated my TWRP to the one from CM11 thread. Installed fine. Typical temp grief from TB, reinstalled SuperSU and pointed it to correct backup folder. Google launcher works, but doesnt have voice output. im playing with the settings now to try and fix. Also installed CRpalmers kernel to see how it takes.
So does everyone have data working consistently? Calls, texts, WiFi all work fine, i just can't get data to work at all even after all the how to fixes.

After fighting with data for hours I gave up and went back to cm11.

SlimSaber: Uber toolchain 4.9.3
SlimKernel: Uber toolchain 4.9.3
Disclaimer
I'm not responsible for any damages on your device.
The rom and the kernel are tested by me first before I make it available online. I could have overseen something during testing, please understand. In summary, the ROM is still SlimKat, with some additional features (see below), but is also compiled with SaberMod toolchain. You can consider this build as a "nightly" and the build from the official thread is stable and weekly.
!!! Please don't discuss these unofficial builds in the official thread. Users can get confused easily!!!
What makes different from the official SlimRoms
Compiled with a custom toolchain UBERTC for more performance and better battery life
Compiled with the GCC optimization level -O3
Compiled with strict-aliasing compiler optimization
Added patches to fix GCC strict-aliasing violation rules
Added ARMv7 optimized string handling routines for more smoothness and more memory optimization
Disabled SQLite fsync to increase I/O performance
Cherry-picked some AOSP bug and memory leak fixes
Cherry-picked some KitKat bug and memory leak fixes
Installation instructions
Coming from stock or another ROM:
Full wipe: system, data, cache, dalvik cache.
Flash the SlimSaber build.
Flash gapps from here
Flash latest SuperSU from here
Coming from previous SlimSaber build:
Flash the SlimSaber build.
No need to wipe dalvik-cache. The system will do it anyway if it needs to.
No need to re-flash gapps. Gapps will be restored back automatically by backup tool during flashing.
Known Issues
Skype call not working.
Use Skype version 4.9.0.45564
Lens blur photos will crash while processing
This is caused by using a toolchain version number greater than 4.7.
"Prevent accidental wake up" display option causes black screen when incoming call comes in
Disable it for the time being, until the bug is fixed

Additional features included!
The main features are the compilation of the ROM with -03 flags, strict aliasing and Sabermod, along with the rest of the optimisations listed in the OP. These are all to increase performance and battery life. But of course, there are some additional features included:
Gesture unlock for lockscreen
Network speeds in status bar
Configure double tap status bar to sleep
Custom system animations
Integrated performance options in ROM
Soft reboot option
Mobile data disabled by default. This is to avoid extra carrier charges during ROM setup
SuperSU root management
Lockscreen Notifications
Advanced calculator with floating mode
Battery saving network mode: Automatic switch to 2G when screen is off.
Smooth scrolling (disable scrolling cache)
Confirm to reboot to bootloader/recovery
For a more comprehensive list, please see this post by Harsha Raj in the i9100 thread.
Mobile data isn't working!!
Once the ROM is booted, go to Settings -> Toggle 'Mobile networks' for data to be enabled.
It's disabled on purpose, by default. This is so when you first flash the ROM, no data is used, as some carriers charge heavily for even small data transfers.
What about theme chooser?
Next post down, look in the "Goodies" post to find flashable themes
Root doesn't work!
Enable 'Developer options'
Go to Settings -> About Phone
Tap on the Build Number 7 times
Go to Settings -> Developer options -> Root access
Choose 'Apps' or 'Apps and ADB'
How to change DPI?
Currently, this feature hasn't been ported... so you'll need to install Texdroider DPI from the playstore... or edit /system/build.prop and change ro.sf.lcd_density to the desired value

Caf source is used to compile to bacon, is the main branch for it, as bacon is maintained directly from CAF, and not from google, so it dont have pure aosp as ours do. But i prefer to use caf too, caf is much more optimized now, i could get easily 4h SOT with default kernel settings, no tweaking, no undervoltage on my first private builds. so i would say you to give a shot to caf

I was just looking at lolistats, YouTube adaway, and snapprefs, but installing that zip recovery is what seems to break everything. I know it's early, but I figured it should still work as it does with both CM and AOSP 5.0 roms.

Yes it should, but caf roms, and specially slimsaber, have tons of different things of aosp and cm, in a near future u maybe could get xposed working on caf roms, i am sure that xposed dev, wont give up. Btw, i think u can get similar apps that dont use xposed
xposed doesn't work on slimsaber. some ART optimizations (or perhaps others) that i used make it incompatible with xposed.

Introduction
Vanilla is a ROM designed to be as close as possible to AOSP while having theming capabilities with substratum. If you don't want to use substratum you don't have to as it's an optional install from the play store. The ROM does not come with root as it isn't even needed for substratum anymore. Don't worry about flashing a kernel because flash come with it!
Features
It is much easier for us to maintain our features list over on github
Changelog
Vanilla's "Changelog" lives on github for easier updates
Installation
Clean flash (needed when coming from another ROM or on a version earlier than 1.11 upgrading to 1.11+):
Download latest build with md5sum (TWRP will automatically verify)
Download GApps
Download latest vendor
Boot TWRP
Wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik cache
Flash Vendor
Flash Vanilla
Flash GApps
Flash other zips
Reboot
Dirty flash (when already on Vanilla):
Download latest build with md5sum (TWRP will automatically verify)
Boot TWRP
Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Flash Vanilla
Flash other zips
Reboot
Frequently Asked Questions
1.1 Q: What's the difference between the two versions?
1.1 A: Pixel version has the blue accents system wide with round icons, the non-Pixel version is the normal AOSP look.
1.2 Q: Why doesn't the Pixel version have the nav bar?
1.2 A: In order to easily do two builds, the nav bar has to be overlayed in our custom vendor, which is not working at the moment. Download Substratum and install the nav bar overlay of PixelUI.
1.3 Q: How do I convert to F2FS?
1.3 A: This will involve formatting your data, backup before hand! I'd also recommend doing this after installing the ROM but before setting it up fully.
If you don't know what f2fs is, 2 options: A. Google it. B. DO NOT USE F2FS FFS
Download Nathan's custom TWRP: http://nchancellor.net/Downloads/TWRP/angler/
Flash it with either fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <path_to_img_file>
or within your current TWRP (Install > Select Image > Recovery)
Select Wipe > Advanced Wipe
Select data and hit "Partition options"
Select "Change filesystem"
Select "F2FS"
Slide to confirm
Back out and do the same thing for cache
Boot up into Android
1.4 Q: Can you add ABC feature from XYZ ROM??
1.4 A: If you can tell us where you saw the feature, we can consider adding it but this ROM is supposed to be close to stock; it will not have a lot of the bells and whistles that others will have.
1.5 Q: Can I flash Open GApps with this?
1.5 Q: Sure but we will not be providing support if something goes wrong.
1.6 Q: Can you add an option to remove lockscreen elements?
1.6 A: We could, however there isn't much of a point as you could just simply download Substratum and install Lock Clean.
1.7 Q: Do i need to flash GApps between builds?
1.7 A: You only need to flash GApps if you are doing a clean flash.
1.8 Q: Vendor XYZ id from the verizon only build. Where can i find the non-verizon vendor?
1.8 A: TL;DR It doesn't matter. If its in the op chances are thats the correct vendor. There is a common misconception about the vendors from the last 2 builds. The verizon vendor and normal vendor is IDENTICAL. the only difference between the verizon build and non verizon build is that the verizon build has a newer radio because 3.78 breaks verizon volte while 3.79 fixes it. HOWEVER even with that any user could flash that build perfectly fine.
1.9 Q: Can i build vanilla myself from source?
1.9 A: Go for it we wont stop you. we just ask that you don't publicly release anything. If you want a device supported you are welcome to be one of our maintainers just talk to me first. Feel free to contribute to the project Just know if you build Vanilla on your own, you will not receive support because if you are building it yourself you should be able to fix the issues yourself

No. DUI will not be added. This ROM is intended to be as stock as possible.
Do we have Substratum support in this awesome ROM? I know it says OMS, but there have been some issues with stock ROMs and Substratum lately so I'm just wondering if it's working now.

Hey just to clarify for you;
Stock based ROMs don't have issues with Substratum so long as they include OMS support. It's the modified stock images (MegaPixel, WETA, Cortex, etc.) that have issues. They aren't source built and as such, cannot include OMS. If you theme frameworks (Android System from Substratum app) you will boot loop. Some themes give you a warning and won't even let you theme it and others will just throw an error if you try. Any source built ROM (like this one) which includes the OMS commits is fine.
Some people say that Swift Dark/Black by Per Lycke fully work on Substratum legacy (ROMs without OMS), and they do except they won't theme frameworks. Your notifications stay white, they won't theme, point blank period. Google broke legacy support and no theme can get around that. It's broken in source. The rest of the theme works fine, but frameworks will not theme. I've personally tested this on modified images. Google already fixed the problem internally and said a fix should be coming soon.

Do we still have the stock nav bar tuner? Or was that ditched when you dropped systemui tuner? Reason I ask, is because I much prefer the ability to shift all my keys around vs smartbar/fling, etc. Didn't see it explicitly mentioned in the changelog
