[Q] need help! - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,i have strontium 64GB MicroSD,i want to use it on moto e,Motorala's forum confirmed that device can run larger cards than 32 GB but needs to be formatted!, but actually i don't want to format it in fat32 file system(due to it's 4gb restriction, and also i can't as it's 64GB using windows ) and due to licence restrictions exfat, ntfs support is not available in Android's kernel, So guys is their any other way to support such file systems?
I heard cyanogenmod's kernel supports exfat,ntfs..but it's not available on moto e...guys please help!

By using this , is it possible to install apps in my exfat formatted microSD?(already PM'd U) ??
Sent from my XT1022 using Tapatalk

Well I did this and found it only mounts NTFS formatted sdcard at a particular location, system still didn't recognize it ,so no apps can be moved to SD....I custom kernel can fix it..... I hope to we'll get one... ?

Actually i mean that after formatting to ext4, Android doesn't read it as external SD.I have installed Minitool partition in my PC. [emoji6],All i need is custom kernel for stock rom with exfat or ntfs support...

I think you are confusing two issues here. First is the inability of the moto E to recognize exfat SD cards because Motorola didn't pay the license fee like other companies. For instance the first notification you get if you put a 200 GB SD card into a Blackberry DTEK 50/60 series phone is that MicrosfotExfatforBlackberry (which is the driver that allows the phone to recognize high capacity cards) is downloading and installing.
The second issue is moving applications to an SD card. That ability was severely restricted by Google with the advent of android 4.
Your best option to deal with the second issue is to go to settings-applications and move whichever apps allow you to move them on an individual basis.
Remember that as capable as the E is, it is still a budget phone and won't have the same features a flagship like the DTEK 60 or Pixel does.

You could change the vold.fstab to swap internal with external as you would for some Sony phones (hit the search button, there's more then enough threads on it)

as far as I am aware external mem. card in our Dx is already treated as primary memory, as you can see while installing the games, their data folder is created on external mem. card instead of internal mem., whereas in other jb device its reverse, &
type of partition is Ext4

[Q] Formatting a 64GB card using mass storage?

Hi. After reading hundreds of pages and dozens of threads, being unable to find the answer, I decided to register and post.
I'm running liquidsmooth 2.9 and had to format my 64GB card to fat32. It now shows up with 26.5GB available. I couldn't format it to 64 due to my USB dongle doesn't support SDXC cards (Hama microsdhc 2in1 reader, did not find any firmware upgrades for it either)
My question is, is there any way to format the card back to the full capacity without having to purchase another card reader? I've already bought 2 and would prefer to format it using USB mass storage through windows, but no software I've tried thus far gives me the option to format it larger than 27gb.
Help would be greatly appreciated!!
You need root for usb mass storage, then download any of the usb mass storage apps from play. Card readers are £2.

I am running Liquidsmooth, so I am rooted. I'm currently on a small island where all computer peripherals are outdated and shipping is ridiculously expensive and takes many weeks. So if there is a way to recognize more than 27gb using Mass storage it would be great.

I am using EasyUMS, it still only shows up as 26.5GB and when it was exfat, it would just say "Insert disk in drive" when I was using USB mass storage. Right now the card is formatted as FAT32 for it to be able to be recognized at all, I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a way to reformat it to get the full capacity in Liquidsmooth through usb. I have tried SD formatter 4.0, Easus partition master, Guiformat as well as a bunch of others. Any ideas?
Thanks for the replies so far!
1) take nandroid to internal memory
2) flash touchwiz rom (aosp doesn't support exfat)
3) format sd to exfat (standard touchwiz format, use storage menu)
4) using easy ums / sg usb mass storage enabler - mount exfat card in windows pc
5) using easeus, format fat32
Should work

It worked beautifully. I had already flashed to stock earlier, and I guess from the relief from getting my full storage back (I was a little worried after reading about people having 64gb cards ruined in the phone) , I forgot to format it before reverting to Liquidsmooth.
Wish I didn't waste so much time trying to get the non-SDXC usb dongle to work It's just odd that this tiny stick should differentiate between SDHC/XC.
Thanks for the help. For those wanting to use a 64gb card with a non-touch wiz ROM, remember to format it before you flash and save yourself a lot of trouble.

[Testing] Enabling Samsung Move Apps to SD Feature

Hi Guys,
I don't have Galaxy Mega. So anyone can help to test this Csc code to enable Samsung move app to SD feature?
Requirement:
1) Rooted phone
2) Has CSC installed (system/csc available)
3) Has ext sd card
How to:
1) Go to system/csc and find feature.xml or other.xml
2) Open it with text editor
3) Add this code just before </FeatureSet></SamsungMobileFeature>
<CscFeature_Common_AllowExternalApkUsage>true</CscFeature_Common_AllowExternalApkUsage >
4) Save and exit
5) Set file permission to rw-r--r--
6) Reboot
7) Go to settings - apps manager
8) Try move a game to SD card
That's it. Let me know if it works.
Thank you.

Absolutely yes, 32gb most of it free. I think the problem is possibly that the sdcard on the mega is not in the same 'place' as other devices.

It's a Sandisk Ultra 32gb 30mb/s class 10 formatted Fat32 and it's working fine with foldermount. I currently run SkySafari Pro and CoPilot sat nav off it, over 1.5gb data between them. So plenty of available space and no access problems.

Foldermount does work though
No problems with Foldermount, as I said I'm using it but it would be easier to just be able to select move to SD in app manager. Full marks to Arsaw for trying to help with that.
Sorry to bump but have there been any advancements in this area? Main reason I wanted to root was to move apps to the SD card but I'm finding it very hard to find anything that will allow me to do this.
Also tried the above and received the same message.
As far as I can tell the only thing that seems to work is FolderMount, but from what I can see this only moves app data to the SD card and not the actual application itself?
Any news from Samsung if the app2sd support will be heading our way as well as the S4?

Pls mention its only possible to edit the system files if its rooted

With this we only enable that option to be visible... we must edit also the vold.fstab file to get this functional...
This option is working on Galaxy S4 after first update so i think maybe would help copying that from S4 to Mega (but S4 with 4.2.2 after patch update which solve this option)

[Q] Moto E SD card restrictions

Hi guys! First time here. I have a few questions about Moto E.
I frequently use apps like Airdroid and Software Data cable to transfer my stuff to and from my computer. Transferring to computer works like a charm, but since the internal memory is only 2.4GB(1.3 already used), I cannot transfer files which are pretty huge. The SD card restrictions found in Kitkat does not allow me to copy files directly to External SD card. Is there any way I can change the restrictions without rooting my phone? Thanks in Advance.
I get the following error:
No fix without root that I know of...
...well, you could install a custom recovery, mount /system RW and replace the framework with one patched to remove the restriction, but I guess the effort isn't worth it except as a personal challenge!

I was actually concerned about copying large files from computer to SD card using airdroid. Like for example, if i want to copy a 4 gb file, i can't do it without a data cable or card reader. But i don't know if we can put app data in Sd card. I had to stop playing dead trigger 2 because of low storage? Do you think it's possible to put obb's in SD card in moto e?

Expand Galaxy S3 internal memory with Cyanogenmod

Hi everyone,
I bought a 64Gb memory card thinking to expand the internal memory of my Galaxy S3, I have Rooted my phone and installed the non-oficial Cyanogenmod 12.1 (which is great & works very good)
I wonder if I have to make an special partition in my card & if I can move the apps with Link2SD, or how is the procedure.
I was reading in different webs but now I'm confused now because there are different information. Even In some places they tell that is not possible, just if the Rom is original , that's the reason I decided to write here.
I hope someone can help me & thank's in advance.
Ed
I guess you should just make a partition at your sd card with partition magic (that is a pc program) then install the card and link2sd to your phone and you are ready.

Finaly after a long time I did it, but I was very disappointed because I hope my free ram increase but it wasn't & the phone speed was pretty much the same. And the worst thing was on the next day when after a final boot, it disappear from the phone all the apk's I have installed on the SD card. I couldn't believe it, so after all time lost. I delete everything & I put the Cyanogenmod again.
At the end, I had forgotten my plan and I will use my sd card to save my music & photos. -) Very bad experience. I hope some one could read it. Thanks for the answers. Ed
Ram cannot increase. It's physically installed on your phones motherboard and that's it.

@edugarb: management of ext partition even needs more RAM. The only way to run LP on S3 smoothly is to keep the system slim.
