[Q] Using Kies for Backup & Restore on rooted/custom rom - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Does anyone know if it's ok to restore a backup form Kies to get my pictures and music? I'm rooted and running a custom rom form the international threads. I'm not wanting to restore firmware or anything like that, but I was wondering if something would get screwed up if I was to install another rom and then try and restore my pics and such.
Basically I'm wanting to use Kies as a way to sync and store all my current stuff just in case I lose something when doing tweaks and such.
Thanks in advance for you time and help.

CF-Root, restoring after custom rom.

Hi, my gs2 is rooted with CF-Root, this is the FIRST time i have done all this as im new to Android. Last night i did a nandroid backup and a titanium backup, factory/cache wipe etc before i then flashed villainrom 2.4.2 for the first time with success and now my phone is obviously like it was out of the box but on villainrom, so all my apps, contacts etc have gone.
I have a few questions:
Whats the best way to restore everything and get my contacts and apps etc back? do i have to recover with nandroid or titanium?
whats the difference between these 2 backups i made, nan/titan?
also does recovering any of these backups affect the custom rom i just flashed? ideally i would like to know for when im flashing custom roms in the future, which is the best way to back things up then recover them after i have flashed a custom rom?
One last thing is can i still use samsung kies to backup/sync things like contacts/photos with a rooted gs2 running villainrom?
Sorry for these noob questions, any help is really appreciated! THX!
Sorry to post again but can anybody adivise me on the above?
Thanks.
A nand backup = backup your current setup, like an image (including ROM)
Titanum = backup apps +/ data
Now that you flashed a new rom, you should restore with Titanium your apps.
So - If you want to go back to your earlier ROM + everything, use your nand back up. If you want to stay on this ROM and have the apps back, use Titanium.
And once you flashed a custom rom, you can't use Kies anymore to update/back up etc.
Cheers
Right i wasnt fully sure so thx for the help, time to restore some apps!
Thanks again

[Q] Can all rom customisations be reversed?

I'm thinking of using a custom rom for my P7500 and wanted to know if I would be able to go back to a stock rom if I needed to?

Yes you can.
Do a little reading up on going back to stock in this forum. Even though the nessesary stock rom etc are on here, it is always easier to make your own backup and restore from it.
Good luck and happy flashing.
before making any custom changes do a nandroid backup of the whole phone in recovery and then back up your apps and data using Titanium.
Also useful to copy a backup to your PC.
You can flash away and install custom roms, kernels and themes. Most should be fixable by going back to your backup. Having your data etc. backed up to your PC also allows you to re-flash stock and restore the whole system should that be desirable or necessary.
Google backs up your data also if you allow it and you can ensure contacts and calender stuff by synchronization with an online account.
This may sound paranoid, but a thorough backup allows you greater freedom to experiment and play with various custom options up to the point you find the set up you like best.
Thanx for the info guys.

[Q] Can you restore settings/contacts/data without Kies?

Ok so i rooted my phone, installed Custom rom (checkrom Revo) and theme, flashed with custom kernel. And it seemed to improve the issues i was having, which i believe are network related not phone related. Carried of course denies that.
Anyway my brother asked me to do the same to his SGS2 as he is having the same issues. Now i have a couple of questions about this.
1) Firstly once i root the phone and install the custom Rom KIES does not recognise the phone. I do a factory reset because its going from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 firmware. Is it possible to update all the previous information like what KIES backs up (contacts/settings/gallery/ etc etc) without the use of KIES?? I dont want to do a restore with CWM as that takes it back to previous ROM/Theme. I just want to restore all the user based settings that KIES can backup and restore.
2) I made a backup with CWM just in case, because of the KIES not connecting i restored the backup, reflashed the stock carrier firmware and stock kernel. It now connects to KIES but it has the "this device is not supported for firmware update". Ive looked in the forums and cant seem to find a solution, usb debugging is off, ROM and kernel are both stock. I am in Australia and with Telstra and i dont think they have even released 2.3.5 yet so my main concern is finding a solution for Question 1, if i can then updating via KIES is not overly important.
Thanks in advance for your help.
1. Yes you can backup and restore those things without KIES. I recommend titanium backup which can backup all the apps and most settings.
With the stock contacts app you can backup your contacts on your sdcard.
The pictures you have made are stored on your sdcard by default, so you don't have to back them up (Tough I would recommend it too).
2. Have you checked the drivers? Uninstall and reinstall them. Try switching USB debugging on and off.
I hope that helps. I don't like KIES and I believe you can understand why. I do not use it anymore, since I flash custom ROMs and there are several other apps to backup and restore like titanium. You should also search the market for other backup apps, but titanium seems the best for me.

Thanks for that, i just wanted to make sure, my phone im not worried about, but i would prefer not to lose all the stuff my brother has put on his.
And yes i can understand why, i hated the program from the first time i installed it. Its horrible to use and it cant decide whether it wants to recognise a phone or not.
Brother, I have backup from Kies, Now kies is not recognizing my note2, and I have no titanium backup, So how will I be able to restore the backup I currently have in my PC from Kies to my mobile without Kies...

[Q] Galaxy S2 backup and restore issues

Hi Folks,
I apologise in advance for my limited knowledge, I am not as techy as I would like to be, but here is my issue:
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100T) running Android 4.1.2. I made a habit of backing everything up on Kies version 2.6.0.13091_9.
Kies claims to have backed everything up but when my phone had some issues and was wiped, I tried to restore which worked fine except my sms messages where not restored. I have 3 years worth of sms's that are important to me.
Likewise, messages and content within programs like viber no longer appear but program content like say Whatsapp does.
My internet searches on resolving the matter lead me to here; can someone please bestow some of their wisdom upon me and help me get the complete backup back on my phone?
Thanks
Helpless Amateur.
Back up with cwm/twrp recovery. Make a nandroid of your rom and don't forget preload . Use google to back up you're contacts.use an app of play store to back up you're messages. BTW have you heard of Efs? You need to back that up too. Use hc ktool to back that up. It's also on play store.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your response, but my phone is already wiped and the only backup I have is what kies backed up (claiming it backed up everything including txt messages which are very important for me). I need to find a way to restore from that back up that I have.
Regards
Dunno much about kies, used it short, so I cant help here...
But when you deal with your problem and you feel that you need be much careful in the future:
I am using 3 thing when backing up. (and I do it often, I exchanged many ROMS)
1. Titanium backup is a must.
2. SMS Backup - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
3. Next Launcher Backup in its preferences...
Good luck finding your sms...

update 4.4.2 to 6.1

I haven't updated my phone in a while. I don't get the over the air updates anymore. I saw the new update and thought it was time.. My phone is rooted and I'm running G900tuvu1ane6 and want to update to 6.1 and then root the phone again. Can you let me know if I can do a straight update without messing anything up or do I need to do an incremental update? Also, what is the best way to root the new version. Are there any issues with mm that I should be aware of. Thanks in advance.

No. You can go straight to 6.0.x
Flash twrp flash supersu
Not really. There's been a crap load fixed/improved since KitKat tho lol
Hi!
Yes, you can
You can by using ODIN
Go to sammobile to download the last MM version
Download ODIN (sammobile has a link to ODIN)
The phone will be swiped. You'll lost all data
Fisrt boot can take 8 minutes or more
The root again
So I'm running a backup now with twrp. If my phone gets wiped with this update, what is the best way to save and restore settings like app data and personal info. I think twrp is just for a full backup and restore correct?

You can restore just data with twrp but honestly I highly suggest just starting fresh especially going from KitKat to marshmallow. So much has changed betwen the 2 from dalvik to art, file structure, etc etc. Back up your contacts and just restore them. Download all your apps back log in etc etc. Take you 10 minutes longer and starting completely fresh and clean.

I'm agree
There are a lot of changes from KK to MM.
you can use google backup and restore mechanism to restore some kind of configuration: when you are running first wizard google ask: "restore from previous phone"?
This restores desktop confiig and install your apps you installed from play store
Whatsapp restore automatically from last backup
Call log and SMS can be backup and restore with "SMS backup and restore"

I followed instructions I found in another thread but it didn't wipe the phone completely. Not sure what I did wrong but the phone seems to be working well with the existing apps.

Odin doesn't touch data by its default settings so did nothing wrong
I was trying to remove bloatware and I've been finding threads for other phone's firmware but they have different apps. I've seen some apps that remove bloatware automatically but don't know if I should use one of them or just uninstall apps through titanium backup. If I use titanium have you guys seen a good list for the newest firmware?

Help
Helloooo
I have a galaxy s5 900T, but I am in Europe and I have problems with the mobile network.
Individual network frequencies are unavailable, so I do not have 3G and 4G networks in some places.
I'm thinking to install software from Europe version of s5 900f on my s5 909T but I am not sure is that possible.
Can someone explain to me whether it is possible or why not. For example, CyanogenMod is the same ROM for both models (900F and 900T, and mire else s5 with Qualcomm procesor.
