I think the pedometer on the note 4 is much better then on the gear s. It says I have walked way more then my phone does. Off by about 700 steps from the phone. Watch showing more. I was in the car most of the day today so not sure how I did 2k steps.

How much of this is because you literally do not have the phone in your hand as much as the watch on your wrist?
I am coming from the fitbit line and this watch tends to give me less credit the fitbits do.
So, I just get a base line number and improve about it.
Look at the photos. To me the watch is much better
@NeatSheep
By the way it's measuring my steps, speed, location heart rate at the same time with a chart and a map. You can see that in the photos

I will have to test it out at work as im always walking there. Maybe it is better. I never had a pedometer that was not my phone so maybe this is more accurate.

Does the s health app give you verbal specs for while you are out? Like split times, or lap times and such?
Yes you you choose an exercise it will start recording the time, distance, speed, calories burned, location on the map and heart rate.
@NeatSheep
The problem with a pedometer on your wrist is that it will register steps just from the movement of you hand. If you are like me and move your hands a lot when you speak, or point a lot at a board (I'm a teacher) it registers way more steps than a pedometer attached to your hip or a phone in your pocket.
I also note that when I'm sitting at my desk, flipping pages of an article or assignment will register steps too ?
To be honest. If it making you move more the it's doing its job. And the normal steps they don't do much and it can tell you the healthy pace that really matters.
And you can only depend on the star an exercise function and it can tell the time you moved so you look at the chart and remove the steps that you know that are not correct.
There is may ways to solve the problem but i say if it's making you feel good and makes to want more and move more then why not.

I had two Nike Fuelbands, and believe you need to look at any wrist device like they do. They all give you "points", whether they call them Fuel or steps, etc. Just establish a baseline and improve from there. I put my hands on my knee during biking at the gym, and get points this way, and don't worry that the elliptical is not real steps either, and I use the poles on this machine instead of keeping my hands stationary on the smaller arm rest handles. Improvement is the key. I lost 88 lbs. this year and credit my Gear 2 very much in helping me push my goals daily. I have it set still at 11000, but today got 16,000 points for example. Have fun with it. I am loving the new Gear S too.
True. If you use it to establish a baseline and set goals, it should be a good way to motivate yourself and improve.
I just laugh when it says I've 8,000 steps and I know if just sat on my ass in the office and car all day

I have never gotten that to work flipping pages.
Go through a normal day and see the number steps you get. Then set your goal higher than that. Nothing will be perfect, but that gets "you" moving more, and isn't that the goal?

1) Does it have Nike+ app already?
2) Has anybody used any semi pro watch in the past? Forerunner, ambit? Just wondering how Gear S compared to those devices.

Yes it has a Nike+
And most pedometer not professional.
I have a Garmin GPS watch. I can compare them together if you want

I have many questions.. if you can answer - that's nice. I have experience with Garmin Forerunner 620 and Endomondo mobile app. Both suites me fine. And I just want to know if Gear S can replace them.
1) How often would you need to charge it if you would do 1 hour running every second day?
2) Is heartbeat recorded during the running or after the run? Is HB recorded by Nike+ app?
3) Can Nike+ app:
- Show average pace of the last kilometer? (after each km)
- Vibrate or in any other way inform every 1km?
4) In one of the videos I've seen Endomondo icon in Gear S. Have you tried it?
- Can Gear S+Endomondo work without!! the phone? That would be ideal solution for me.
- That stuff Endomondo records during workout? GPS coordinates? Heart rate?
Ok lets see. First i have garmin forerunner 910xt and i stopped using it and replaced it with gear s.
1. I charge my gear s sometimes every 2 days and the fact that the charger has a battery is good for me because sometimes i change it on the way to work.
2. I didnt run with the watch but walked really fast and it kept recording my heart rate during that time.
3. Nike+ works without phone after setup(UPDATE )************
4. Endomondo don't work without the phone
@NeatSheep
If Even Nike+ can't work without a phone - that's a no go for me
Does that mean that only Samsung fitness apps can utilize the mobility and GPS of Gear S?

I want to try android wear device.I choose LG G Watch.
Because in India,LG G Watch is available for 6500 INR (105USD).
Can any one tell me the pros and cons for this watch?
Is good to buy?
I just posted this message in another thread, but it is relevant to your question, so here it is again......
I just got mine too, but I really like it.....
First, I have to have my phone encrypted for work reasons. Having the Wear Unlock feature is a Godsend.
Second, I really like having my email and other notifications right there on my wrist. 90% of the emails I get are unimportant, but the other 10% are critically important. Before having the watch, I didn't check my email as much as I should have due to the amount of low importance email. Now with the watch, it is quick and easy to see an incoming message and immediately delete the unimportant ones.
Third, I love Google Now. It may start out feeling like a gimmick, but the more you use it, the more you will depend on it as a important feature. I was really starting to use this feature on my phone (G3), but it was a pain to get my phone and turn the screen on before I could use it. Having the watch allows this experience to be much quicker since I don't have to touch my phone. It's even better than the Moto X with it's "always listening" mode because you get the results right on the watch. Sure, there are sometimes that I need to push the results to the phone, but many times I am fine with viewing the information right on the watch. Checking the traffic conditions is something I do regularly - even when traveling on secondary roads and not the highway.
Fourth - Navigation on the watch. Having the turn by turn directions on the watch means I can leave my phone screen turned off when using navigation. I don't have a car mount for my car, so trying to position the phone where I could watch the navigation queues was a pain. In fact, many times I simply listened to the voice instructions which wasn't ideal. Now having the steps appear on the watch is great!
Fifth, I like having the incoming phone calls vibrate the watch. I would miss calls sometimes because I didn't hear my phone ringing or feel it vibrate (if on silent). Now I'm much less likely to miss a call.
I use all of these features all the time, but it is especially nice to be able to put my phone down when I get home and not have to carry it around with me. I can place it in the middle of our house (in the Den) and it will stay connected to the watch pretty much wherever I am in the house. It's great to still get notifications and see who is calling without having to run to look at my phone.
Those are just some features off the top of my head that I have enjoyed with the new watch.
Thank you for your info.
What about battery life from your usage?
I charge it every day, but the watch has never died on me before I end the day - usually 15 hrs or longer. I've had the watch about a week now, so I didn't experienced the "pre-update" battery performance. The battery performance was worse on the early versions of the Wear OS, but by all accounts, it is pretty good now.
Thank you for your information.

Just an update. Somehow my watch didn't charge last night - the charger must have gotten unplugged or something. I'm sitting at 11% battery life after about 26 hours.
I've had my gear S for 3 weeks now and really enjoy the device. I'm a everyday watch guy, so my biggest gripe about the gear s when it came in was the screen going black. I hated the motion activation or pressing the screen/button to wake up the device. I found that under settings-style-clock there is a clock always on setting. Once I turned this on, and turned off motion wakeup, very happy with being able to see time at an glance.
So this brings me to my question, why only do the first couple included watch faces have a nice analog always on black and white faces, every other one I've tried is just a simple, boring, and small digital time? Do people not use this feature, can you create this black and white always on face in watch styler and other watch face creation tools? Anyone know if a downloadable watchface in the gear store that has a nice always on black and white face?
New to the tizen camp and have been reading for days on the forums, having come across anything that addresses what I'm looking for. Thanks for reading
I purchased something called big watch and arranged for the screen to have an always on future. Battery life was nominal but you can also use the minimal watch face black and white. There's also some very light colored white dot matrix clocks as well. Just look through the Samsung store and you will find something.
Biggest problem with Clock Always On is the fact that the screen will be responsive to touch all the time. That results in random operation by the gear. The other day i was wearing long sleeves and ended up calling 2 people randomly.
Try it yourself, put it on always on and touch the screen, device will wake up, and you can end up calling people or any other random operation. Definitely not great.
hmm, I'm 3 weeks into always on mode, and yes the screen does respond to touch. Yet I havent had any real issues with unit being activated by my sleeves. I've been wearing a jacket everyday since owning the unit. Without Always ON Clock, I would not have kept the watch. I'm just disappointing with the the always on options from other watch faces.... looks like I'm sticking with stock faces for now.
I will try again and see if my sleeves will operate the watch on their own. Maybe that day my sleeves were full of static or something. It just freaked me out immensely because it ended up calling a business contact at a very late hour.
However, my second biggest problem with always on (even with the fancy samsung analog dials) is that you don't see anything except time. No pedometer, no notifications, no weather, nothing but time. You would still need to tap the screen to get any of that information. Even with the motion gesture you don't get to see anything more than time until you click, even though it gives the impression that the whole dial is lit up (this part is especially annoying).

I've been using clock always on for the last two weeks and have had no issue with my sleeves waking the device accidentally. as the above poster alluded to, it really does make it a better experience.

And this brings me back to, are there any other watch faces that have a analog style, always on face? Even the low power faces on gear store, when you go to the always on clock face, its a crappy little digital clock... frustrating. If you make a watchface in watch styler, can you dictate what the always on clock face is??
I suppose that I will have to try the time on option and see if there are any accidental operations performed.
What is battery life with clock always on? Right now I get two days.

(1) The more time you spend with the watch's cellular radio on while not being connected to your phone via bluetooth, the less battery life.
(2) The more you stream music via the watch, the less battery life.
(3) The weaker cellular zone you live in (or pass through), the more battery drain. If cellular is on and your device has a weak connection or is searching for connection, the more battery drain.
(4) What network is your watch on? What network is your phone on? How good is your signal where you live? What phone are you using with the device? Is it running stock 4.3 or higher? Is it running a ROM?
I usually get 1.5 days with the always on clock. Typically 30-50% battery left when I charge at night with moderate to heavy use throughout day. I'm connected via BT to my phone 99% of the time.
WE REALLY NEED TO KNOW HOW TO MAKE/CHANGE SOME ALWAYS ON CLOCK FACES, ESPECIALLY IN WATCH STYLER!!!!!

I do not have any motions turned on. WiFi off. Only remote connect for an hour run and when I have to at the barn. I don't get a ton of emails.
At first it i didn't get 2 days. After several cycles the battery broke in and getting 2 days just sort of happened.

I suspect that it's something more complex than Watch Styler is likely to support, at least in the near future.
I was having a quick look round online the other day and even on a Tizen Developers forum, nobody seems to know how to make use of the 'Always On' feature.
I am a watchface developer and Iam trying to figure out how to make watchfaces like the first 2 native watchfaces.
I could not find the info yet.
If anyone has any idea, please share here...

Also try turning off the location setting on your gear S when you don't need to use it. Should help the battery last longer.
I'm using the motion to wake feature.
Guys , should I get this watch or the SW2 ?
First : From the reviews I can see that this watch is better , but the SW2 can lunch apps like gmail , can the LG G do ??
Second : Is there is a timer in the LG G ? If there isn't , can I install a 3rd party app on it ??
Third : Can I pair it with my phone and my BT speaker at the same time ??
Thx in Advance :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

One of the things I feel this watch is missing (besides heart rate monitor and adaptive lighting sensor) is the crown. Although I only say that because I wanted a way to "lock" the watch every so often from accidental touches by clothing worn. Theatre mode does not cut it (actually ineffective), there is another way with root, it just requires a crown to get you back to safety. That is the biggest hassle I have with the G, and it's not really that big of a deal.
For your other questions:
Yes and no. GMail notifications do come through, but to read your email through the watch later on, your Gmail needs to be set up in the phone's stock email app as well (or there may be a watch app option I am not aware of, any way with the method here luckily you can turn notifications off on one of the instances so you are not bombarded twice).
Timer is built in. As is stopwatch, and Alarm. When the time on the former and latter is up, the watch vibrates until you respond (phone will not kick in with a tone). Similarly, if you set a timer or alarm on your phone, I have never seen the watch kick in. Think this was the case for AOSP-based and OEM-based (ZenUI in my case) phones.
Not sure, never done it (this is my first bluetooth device). At any rate, that would be a limitation of your phone, not the watch's problem. The watch (like any Android Wear device), can only be paired with one device.
Other comparison details:
You can (apparently) get twice the battery life (3-4 days) out of the SW2 compared to the G (moderate usage, always on).
NFC connected (option) with SW2 means you can use most phones from the ICS age and newer, where the G is BT only which means late (4.3.x) JB or newer.
The G is about a year newer than the SW2, with a higher resolution screen
The G uses a cradle for (direct, not wireless) charging, whereas it seems the SW2 can plug into a MicroUSB directly.
The G seems to have more activity on XDA.
Comparison piece.
They are both basic watches. If you want long battery life or compatibility with older phones, go with the SW2. If you want more customization options, the G is where it is at.
As a side note, had me interested there for a moment (in regards to a possibly "better in all ways" watch). Once looking into things though, I think my next watch (in a year or hopefully two years time when they are inexpensive) will still be the Urbane.
Hope this helps.
3rd Yes, you can connect your G watch to your phone and use another BT device at the same time, as long as your phone has BT 4.0 (aka BT LE or BT low energy), the same BT as the watch. And even use the BT speaker with the watch alone to play offline music (stored on watch, no phone needed).

Hi,
I noticed my xperia 1 mark III is overheating even in normal use, especially in 120Hz mode. I hope sony will fix it as this device is really scalding.
It really burns!
This is the hottest device I ever had
Software version: 61.0.A.11.23
You're burning up your battery. Time is of the essence, resolve this issue fast. Shutdown the phone if it gets too hot!!!
Auto thermal shutdown may not protect the display/mobo especially if in hot ambient temperatures, in direct sunlight, or when charging.
Keep brightness at 50% or less.
Factory reset.
If that fails...
Find the apks or/and services causing to high drain.
If that fails, return the device.
The clock is ticking, Mr Wick tic-tok...
This is a serious problem. I took some photos and videos (4k and slowmotion) while standing in the sun. Outside temperature was about 23°C (73°F). After about 5 minutes I got an overheat message.
An app that I installed earlier registered an internal temperature of 40.5°c. It felt really hot to (while in a bumper case).
After I put the phone on a granite kitchen table it cooled down in about 10 minutes.

It is serious. Turn off the phone when it feels very warm before it goes over temperature.
Using a AMOLED display in direct sunlight is never a good plan. Limit it to seconds of use.
I have had this same problem since I got it to the point where I got an alert that some apps would be shutdown.
US Version purchased from Adoroma in the states : 61.0.A.11.23
Just another aggravating issue with this phone. Some are having boot loops of a sort also! What is wrong with these companies? Can they not produce a decent product anymore? 1300.00 and it's junk???????????
I am getting overheating as well, a little warm most of the time I use the phone.
Definitely was the 120hz display turned on. Less warm when the 60.
When using the wireless charger.
Anytime I use the cameras.
I am on the latest update as well.
Hm, very intriguing issue with $1300 flagship smartphone from such a respectable brand. I had similar problem with Xperia 1 II in several occasions. And... I think I know what's the problem (not bloody hot SD888 as you might suggest!). Please have a good look at dissasembly video:
Then compare it with $390 LG V60 ThinQ disassembly video from the same guy. Spot the difference! And it is - missing cooling system on Xperia 1 II / 1 III whereas LG V60 has quite big copper vapour chamber! Maybe that's why my LG V60 never gets really hot. So the question is ... WTF are you doing SONY?!
Well, I just sent back my first Pixel - 5A - for overheating. I have been watching the 1 iii and the 5 iii as a possible purchase...but I am turned off by the dedicated assistant button that might possibly be remappable... but for sure I will NOT buy either of these mark 3 phones if they overheat! Makes me sick just how badly most new phones are functioning.
Yeah same, it seems to turn off randomly when using the cameras and when 120HZ screen is on.

I think it's the case for warranty replacement or even return if possible. This is one of the reason why I don't buy expensive brand new phones parallel imported (not officially sold in my country). Just because it means no proper warranty, no service, no nothing.
My Xperia 1 III is getting extremely hot even when taking photos (only 2-3) then get message about hot temperature and apps shutting down.
I use Streamlabs mostly (sometimes Prism) to broadcast to YouTube, foundthe phone almost useless! Overheating in seconds from start of s stream! I'm using my old Samsung Note 10 again as Sony wasn't simply useful.
Now I found a solution to it (sorry solution is too big word)
- I've turned "object tracking" off in camera
- I've turned autofocus on in camera
- I've turned 120hz off
Today we had hot day here in UK (27 Celcius ) I did my tests.
Streamlabs at 1080p , 7000kbps , 30fps run outdoor for about an hour smoothly. Connected to charger started to overheat.
Not to mention that tethering makes it hot quickly (so with Samsung).
Prism at 1080p 60fps run smoothly for couple of minutes and then crashed.
Didn't connect the charger.
I use Streamlabs to transmit 5-6 hours of stream into YouTube using mobile network in most if the times and whilst driving (so changing stations constantly)
I found that using WiFi it doesn't get as hot.
Also charging makes it very hot - SONY advertised it as able to by powered directly by a charger without charging battery, how and where do I find that option?
Is it available using car charger with quick charge 3.0?
I like the phone , like the shape , size and feel to it. Camera is OK (I own Sony a6500 )
Hate the fact of poor selfie camera in such expensive phone (I do live streams using selfie cam too)
Right I've ordered a return of my phone and have 30 days to send it back what alternatives do I have? Really like the SONY if it wasn't overheating I'd love it. Is there a solution to it? Cooler anything?
The things I like about the phone are:
*shape and overall feel in hand
*Cameras are ok don't really see if they great quality or not will still use my a6500 camera.
*Like the fact that can use sd card
*Love finger print reader in power button and seperate camera button
*like the fact that there's no rounded edges - hate them in my Samsung Note
I blame my problems with overheating by poorly made apps not the phone itself and not sure changing the phone will change it.
What are the options should I consider? Samsung S21 Ultra ? iPhone 12,13?
I'm a SONY fan and had many if their phones and that's why I'm looking for a solution otherwise would send it back straight away...
Can anyone help me with my problem?
Many thanks
Bart
Unfortunately greedy sony didn't provide any cooling solution to mark 3... Check disassembly videos, there is no any cooling solution at all, like you will find in asus - small vapor chamber etc. Literally nothing!
They knew snap 888 is overheating. They must have tested this device before releasing it, isn't it?
But no, still didn't apply any cooling solution. And that's a big shame and huge problem of this device.
Not sure if qualcomm provide any updated drivers to assess this problem or not. Or if sony will try to fix it. So far they did nothing and still it overheats. Mine too and you are right by saying that on 3G/5G it is hotter than on wifi.
I wonder how they can market battery as capable and better for 3 years with such hot device. Temperature of course has huge negative impact on battery longevity.
Sad but true
I'm quite shocked! Thanks for the info about disassembly videos...
I'm thinking if getting a cooler which you attach to the body.
What I forgot to mention that cameras itself (the lenses) don't get that hot is the area under them and closer to the centre. So must be processor and lack of cooling system.
Not sure what to do...
We have a hot weather now so I will test it intensively (if I was a Sony tester I'd never allow for the phone to be released like this).
Heating problems is why I keep saying that for any SOC/CPU/GPU manufacturer to keep upping the speeds of these things is STUPID! I can virtually guarantee that from now on every new CPU produced by all OEM's is going to overheat! Have you ever walked into a data center, with hundreds of servers running? You have to wear ear protection because the roar of all the internal cooling fans is deafening!
So then "we" attempt to put similar CPU's inside a device the size of a small remote control WITHOUT a fan and wonder why it overheats? There are only so many ways to keep the phone(s) cool. Use them while frozen solid in a block of ice, or better yet, stop running so many CPU/GPU intensive apps all at the same time. It's simple thermodynamics at work here. The more you have running at the same time, the harder the SOC needs to work, the hotter it is going to run. Another solution, that is literally unacceptable to most people, is to code in a lowering of the speed of the SOC. If this needs to be done then it becomes very clear that building a new, faster SOC every year is STUPID!
One more thing... I've heard that Xperia 1III is capable of powering the phone directly without battery charging to lower the heat...Does anyone know how do I turn this future on?

This is applicable with the game enhancer. You can add some apps there and when you open it, you can enable HS power control. Also sony just release a new firmware that answer you with this issue.. you can check my video

Thanks a lot , tomorrow I will be testing - doing long live stream on YouTube using Streamlabs, I always keep my phone under charger as I drive HGV sometimes for 3-4hrs non stop so battery would die.
It also going to be hot day here in UK and having the phone close to windscreen won't help - I know I shouldn't complain about overheating in such circumstances but my phone overheats even when taking photos although I have a feeling that after last system update its looking better , also as I mentioned before switching off object tracking has improved how smooth camera works using Streamlabs and Prism.
I'm considering buying a cooler for my phone too.
I will post my report tomorrow of how it went.
Many thanks

I found the future now in Game Enhancer app, you can power it directly. Not sure how it will perform yet. Tomorrow will send my report.
I often run streaming app in the background and not sure if Game Enhancer will work that way. I run nav app (Sygic Truck).
Heat problem has gone down significantly for me after the latest update yesterday. Usually the phone got really warm even with me just browsing using Chrome or going through Facebook. Now even when playing ROK or Mobile Legends it doesn't get that warm.
