Is the Z2 compatible with any other noise cancelling earphones besides the MDR NC31E?
I picked up a pair of these seperately (with the option to return). They are pretty nice so far (still wanting to test in noisier env) but @ $70 +tax i feel like i want to compare other alternatives...
the MDR-NC31E's are special because they themselves aren't noise canceling, they just have built in microphones, and the Z2 does the noise cancellation. Other noise canceling headphones have the technology built into the headphones themselves, and are universally compatible as long as it has a 3.5mm jack.
Could be working on Headphones which have Stereo Microphone ... But I've never heard about Stereo Microphone Headsets before ...
This might only change if Sonys Technology gets copied by other Vendors ... Would be great, cause it makes this technology open to the masses and much cheaper, while you can still choose to use the same headphones without NC.

yeah i guess that was my real question, if there were other vendors out there making earphones with stereo mics. on the ears no less heh.
fat chance of that i guess.
Bose quietcomfort 15 is the way to go if you live headphones with noise canceling.
unfortunately my Z2 doesn't comes with the noise cancelling headset and just the regular cheap low-quality headset, any alternatives or any specific models you can recommend?

I just ordered the Sennheiser (CX500) earphones, should they fit in the 3.5mm jack of the Touch HD?
And to anyone who bought custom earphones, did you notice an improvement in audio quality over the bundled ones?

what about a hang up and play/pause/fwd buttons anything like that on it.. or is it just for music only and not talking?
I believe its just has a volume control on the headphone wire.
i have a Set at home Sennheiser cant remember the model but i dont like it.. i i want something with play/pause/fwd/mute buttons and get good bass and treble from it.. dont know which to get
I wanted a set of ultimate ears but I don't believe they make any models that have the mute or capability to answer the phone, like the HTC and some other models designed for phones....anybody have any good suggestions?
I would want some bass out of any pair I own...
jus orderd my Sennheiser CX500 headphones hope theyr better then ipod headphones that would be awsome!!!
I'm using Sennheiser HD595 with my HD and they work perfectly, so I wouldn't worry about CX500.

The headphones from my girlfriends' Nokia N76 don't fit. Although they're 3.5mm, they're too shallow to fit in the jack.
I don't like In-Ear anymore, so I use the Sennheiser HD 25-II. They are simply amazing!!! I can recommend them to anyone!
I have some Sennheiser CX400 MkII's and they're fricking awesome with the HD. You'll need to make yourself a custom setting in Audioboost, but play around and you'll find your sound.
Hello all,
Just a curiosity I noticed. When using the included headphones with the in-line mic, the sound quality is really very good and the volumes far higher. However, when I try to use my Sennheiser HD 202-II headphones, I notice that the sound volume decreases greatly. For instance, what used to be loud at 12/30 with the headset, doesn't get loud until 22/30. I know it's a small annoyance, but the sound quality seems to suffer as well. Or maybe it's just the fact that I'm coming from a Zune HD whose quality spoiled me completely?
Anyway, was wondering if this could be alleviated by buying a pair of headphones with an in-line microphone. Can anyone recommend any? This Sony set is definitely intriguing (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294) but there aren't any reviews yet.
Thanks for any suggestions.
It's more likely due to differences in impedance and sensitivity - I have no problem with earbuds that do not have an inline mic.
For headphones with low sensitivity, consider an external headphone amp like one of the FiiO amps.
Thanks, didn't realize the included earbuds had an in-line mic. I bought a pair of Klipsch s4's that improve the sound a great deal. I don't think I'd ever need a mic, the one built into the player seems to pick up very well.
Hello XDA Community.
I'm planning to buy the SBH80 Bluetooth Headset from Sony. I saw them a while ago and I decided to give it a try and buy them. The only thing that I don't know if it supports native noise cancelation, like the headphones that were included in the package.
I think it should work since Sony uses the two microphones built in the included headphones to cancel the noise, and the SBH80 does have two microphones as well.
Does anyone know if they work as desired?
Thanks!

I remember vaguely that z2's noise cancelling works only with MDR-NC13EM. But I could be wrong. You could try asking Sony directly, but customer care reps probably won't be very helpful considering the vast number of headsets and phones Sony makes. Sending an email would be a better idea. Best thing would be to borrow an SBH80 from a friend and see if NC works on your z2. If you find the answer, let us know as I was also considering SBH80.
The purpose of two microphones on SBH80 is for HD Voice (cuts out background noises and makes it easy to recognise voices) so it would not support noise cancellation.
sbh-80 is independent hardware/software so there is no possibility to make it works
...in HD voice this cancelation isn't for us -this is for those we speak to
z2 has special microphones in earphones and special processor for cancelation in phone
it will newer get works with this processor with bluetooth headsets becouse its need almost perfect 0ms latency to make rotate soundwave 180degrees
and bluetooth connection isnt so fast
if there any possibilities to make fuse the hd voice canceling thing works for music I think sony would implement that
maybe those two microphones are doesn't quality good as they should be
sorry for my poor english
the z2 i get doesn't come with the MDR-NC31EM noise cancelling headphones. so i'm think why not get the newest bt headphone and give it a try?
the thing about sbh80 most attractive to me is the aptX and noise canceling.
but before pulling the trigger, it would be great if someone already have this pair gives your opinion... good/bad/ugly
Sorry to hijack your thread. I don't own sbh80. Just wanted to know what's the use of aptX?

I don't think the sbh80 has noise cancellation, when I was on calls, it sound very good, the other end can hear me clearly, it sound like a regular Bluetooth headset.
The NC31EM earphone is a true NC earphone, music sound varies a little according to the surrounding, you will hear some hiss on and off if the music is on pause, I haven't had a call conversation with it yet, so I can't compare the two on voice calls.
The SBH80 is a nice headset, it is very convenient to use, it sits around your neck when you don't use it, the control button is a bit small, I use my left hand to press the buttons on the right side, then right hand for the left side, it sound much better than the SBH52, as good as the MWV1.

Hi all
my brother just bought LG V10 and the sound quality is great and so was mine until i started listening to music with V10
i know it has an extra sound chip but i really think that Z2 has the potential to be that good too
the question is how can i get the most audio quality with Z2 ?
which headphones do you recommend ?
i have the standard MH410c headphones that were in Z2 box , should i get the noise cancelling headphones ?
is there any software modification i can do ? (i currently use stock firmware but its rooted)
I bought the noise cancellation earphones and they are really good. The sound it's really great for me.
There are 3 things you can do as far as I know
-> Buy a better set of headphones
-> Buy a dac
-> Use software such as viper4android or sound mods.
In my opinion, you should start by fiddling with the software because a good pair of headphones is pretty expensive, and so are most dacs out there

About DAC - if you want to use it, you should use digital connection between phone and DAC. How you gonna to do that? As far I know the only way to do that is connection by Wi-Fi or Bluetooth but if you choose A2DT you loose quality. I don't know any DAC with Wi-Fi connection. In iPods you just make line out cable and than connect DAC by that. I really want to know any line out before amplifier in Xperia.
Sound mods are good enough for speaker, but it's can't do better sound on poor headphones. Start with that. Of course you can try some mods, but I think, and I'm telling that as drummer and sound engineer, that can't really help. Built tools in our phones are just enough.
I recommend to try AKG K518. But if you want in-ear headphones you can try noise canceling sony ear buds. But that's one have a lot of high frequencies and built-in equalizer haven't enough bars to equalize it. I was using a lot shure E2C and ultimate ears fi but that's IEM (in ear monitors) so that's have nearly flat frequencies response with cut-down high frequencies.

regarding bluetooth headset, Z2 supports APTX, which should make wireless audio via bluetooth sounds better. Of course, the headphone must supports it too.
If you are listening to mp3 files I don't think it's worth to get expensive earbuds. Just the Sony NC earbuds with Viper4Android FX. Guaranteed soundgasms!
You can use DAC with usb otg connection. I'm using Hifiman HM-101, you just need to connect it and it works. Sound quality and loudness of it is much better then internal Z2 sound chip.
Im using HTC Sensation XE earphones and the sound is very good. Depends on what music you listen to and do you like clear or bassy sound. These are christal clear, I turn off all sound enhancements and get really good experience.

Well, you are going to spend a lot of money if you want to buy a good pair of headphones...
Probably more than 50€...
Plus, the headphones that came with the phone are pretty sh!tty, save for their noise cancelling feature, which in my case is fairly useless anyway.
However, if you are intending on buying expensive headphones, make sure that they have either a fairly low impendance, or get a dac. The phone might not be able to drive the headphones, it is somewhat common with truly expensive headphones.

As another one said, there are USB OTG dacs too

I use AKG Y50BT with APTX. Just a suggestion.
The basic earbuds without noisecanceling that come with the z2 have a terrible quality, Sony should be ashamed of themselves to include such worthless junk with a flagship product.
I bought the noisecanceling ones lately, just to try as they are for less than €30 including shipping on amazon and they do sound a lot better.
Still, earbuds and good sound quality just don't go together in my humble opinion. Although I have never tried high end earbuds, the sound of big 40 or 50mm headphones is just so much fuller and more complete that I cannot imagine those tiny things capable of that.
Plus that over ear models are a lot more comfortable if you listen for longer periods.
Use Xtreme music mod
