Battery - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, im getting bad battery life on this phone. Surfing the net and listening to music for about 40mins uses 30% of my battery. Is this because my initial charge was not 8h?
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

No, try turning off NFC. Bluetooth, put stamina mode on, put restrict performance on, auto brightness.
If this doesn't work you have a defective unit
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app

Will try. Thank you for the suggestion
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

Don't do that stuff, dude. Stamina Mod+Restrict Performance ruins the phone. You might as well buy a Moto G. Just give it a few days, and see how it goes.

Try my power saving tips here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2768544

Lol where did you hear that
Xperias with problems are %90 of the time defective unit
I got 2hrs of browsing and lost only %34 battery

Go into settings->power management->battery usage and tell us what the top three battery users are. The top should almost always be your screen. If something else is at the top then you know what your problem is.

Try to re-install the latest firmware I guess?

Can someone fully explain to me stamina mode
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

Stamina mode is something that extends your device sleep time by disabeling services when your screen is off
it contains features like restrict performance to even furthur your battery

I think my battery drains too quickly is this right?

Hey all.
In my s3 I played a game for 10 mins and for rest of time I was installing apps and tapatalking is my battery draining too quick?
After full charge in 1hr 20,% lost
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Hey
If you've lost 20% with your screen on constantly for an hour and a half and played a battery hungry game for 10 mins then I'd say you're getting average battery performance.
That side, you can hardly give it definitive answer Based on the info you've given. My advice is to grab Better Battery Stats from Play Store and run your phone normally for a couple of days.
The big problem with this phone is that it's impossible to put down though
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
ur mobile coverage is rather bad...
could be d cause.
looks normal to me for continue use.. screen, wifi, etc on almost the entire hour and a half. once the device goes idle/sleep the "awake" bar should not be blue, otherwise if it stays blue that means a app or something is keeping it awake.
I had avast anti virus and it was keeping my phone awake.. So I uninstalled that

That seems normal to me. I bought a second Samsung battery. Now, I'll never be afraid of running out of juice! It's worth it compared to getting a 4,000mAH battery that makes your slim samsung turn into an obese samsung. :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Overnight battery drain

I am new to Android and very new to Samsung devices coming from iphone. Last night I was at 100% battery before bed and woke up at 71%. I didn't use the phone once. Is that normal? Should I be turning things off or something? 30% overnight drain seems wrong.

Seems like something is amiss. I left mine on all night lastnight at 33% I THINK and its at 18% right now. 1d 1h 55m 47s on battery with 3h 43m 23s of screen on time right now at 10:29AM
Hmm. I forgot to say I have power saving enabled and the usual battery saving tips too.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
That js a very big problem. as you can see i get alot of time on battery. The graph shows that it charged about 10% while I was sleeping (not true). Are you rooted?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I am rooted. I checked battery usage and messaging was at the top? An exchange account is fully set to manual and nothing else.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
my device drains less than 2% over the course of 8hrs when sleeping...you have a app causing a wakelock.

No. There's something wrong. Force Close the messaging app and restart it. Wait a few hours and see if its battery usage goes down.
Possible...
The most likely culprit is the "wakelock" issue mentioned above.
Basically it means something... most likely a poorly written app (also most likely a 3rd party non-google app) is preventing the phone from entering its idle/sleep mode, in which it scales back the CPU to minimum, and other bits enter low power states to conserve battery life.
An app that likes to live on the internet or update frequently, or constantly wakes the device to do things, can cause large amounts of drain as well.
It is also possible that signal strength is a cause. Poor/low signal can keep the radio working at higher power levels and that drains battery fast.
Is there any way to check for wakelock applications causing issues? I have removed a few possible applications and force stopped others. I seem to be losing 1-3% battery per hour on idle. Normal now based on everyone's experience?
If it is a signal strength issue I can live with that but the drain still seems steep.
Sorry for the questions. Too new to this to be able to determine if there are issues and everyone is having great battery life.

Several battery apps that can show that type of info, I've used Gsam battery monitor before myself.
gsam battery moniter is what i use on a daily basis. it will let you know what is draining your battery. Link is for the free version. I have the paid.

Gsam battery monitor is pretty amazing. Thank you. I have an application called "Media" that seems to be running at idle. I can disable it but it looks like I would disable the Download application. It includes a process com.android.providers.media and android.process.media.

Qualcomm Snapdragon BatteryGuru

Qualcomm released an app for anyone with Snapdragon that will extend your battery life and monitor what you do to better control the processes. I just downloaded it and it is in "Learning mode" so I will be excited to see how much savings I get when it has learned and starts saving.
http://androidcommunity.com/qualcom...uru-aims-to-boost-your-battery-life-20130528/
Installed and also in learning mode. Hopefully this helps even more! Thanks for the info.

I have been using it for a while in beta, I can't say it's really helped, but the Wi-Fi control is nice.

Hmm im gonna try it out.
IDK if it does anything. I've had it for a while now and I use it along with 2x Battery. I get 14-16hours out of my DNA for what it's worth or roughly 3 hours screen time.
I'm pretty sure if u got notification toggles and turn on/off WiFi and data connections manually you'll get the same results if not better
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I didn't like it myself. It kept screwing around with screen brightness. I like my on auto brightness., I think it kept putting it on low. And it kept turning on my wifi and searching for connections. Just my 2 cents.

I didn't like it, it kept turning on my wifi when I didn't want it on and I don't think it did anything for my battery at all.

I've been using it for a month and definitely helps. You can go to settings and turn the wifi control off so the app will have no control of it.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Well, I feel it does its job well. The point is to be efficient as possible depending in usage. No matter what, it isn't gonna give you hours of extra on screen time. I feel its main purpose is to manage the battery better when ur NOT using ur phone. So far, I haven't used my phone much other then to read some texts, emails and xda and this is what my battery looks like right now.
Best day Ive had was a 21 hour day with moderate usage (YouTube, texting, emails, minor gaming). That was after letting batteryguru was out of learning mode.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Downloaded yesterday and I'm still in learning mode.
I turned off WiFi control as I toggle it on/off as I need it throughout the day, so I feel this would be a little redundant.
I like the concept of the app and hoping it helps out; once I'm finally out of learning mode that is.

Last day without Battery Guru I had 7% remaining after 15 hours and 53 minutes. First day post-learning mode, I had 13% remaining after 15 hours and 49 minutes with 3 hours and 3 minutes of screen on time. Sadly, I didn't have the correct app to determine how much screen on time I had on the first measurement, but I use my phone about the same way every day.
My biggest complaint with Battery Guru is it forces WiFi on when I'm on the road. I'm not seeing a big enough improvement to get excited about and think that me just toggling WiFi on my own will be just as effective.
On a side note, my daughters phone had 3 hours of screen on time and her phone lasted only 11 hours. She has the Droid Razr HD which comes with a 2530 mAh battery whereas the DNA only has 2020 mAh. Quite impressive for the DNA especially considering the larger, true HD screen and quad core processor.

You can turn off Wi-Fi management by going into the app's settings. Learning mode came off for me yesterday and my God has it made a difference. You know I forgot to charge again lol.

Simple answer...yes, you will need to download the app again and it will go through a learning period.
Perhaps I'm blind but in the usage statistics I don't see screen on time. I know its gotta be there.

Where I can turn off" WiFi mobile and network location"? I've searching for it in the "Networks" tab and I can't find it..

I tried every battery saving app and at the end it came up that the radio consumes most of the juice. 2000+ wakelocks for couple hr standby. Something is clearly not right. We will see how would it go with Kit Kat. Right now it feels like you have Htc One with those 4hr screen time.
Edit:
Made some test.
Charged it to 100%. Then i browsed till it gone to 70%. And guess what, i have almost 3hr of screen time..... crazy....

Actually it's the same with all these "battery saving" apps. They use significantly more juice with their background monitoring than they'll ever save, and most of what they do are either unecessary or common sense. They're like task killers.

Verizon. We don't have wifi calling.

this is an easy one, change carrier.
When I installed the ROM Extreme Syndicate, my Battery improved 25% therefore I would reccomend It over CleanROM. Also if you use greenify that will help too. Other things I did is I lowered the screen brightness and I always have power saving mode enabled. Can't tell you much else.
My screen isn't really a bother. I hate to use power saver as it always down my performance to much to my liking. I'm just trying to figure out how to lower cell standby. I do like CleanRom. Send a picture of your battery usage.?
