I updated to the new firmware today (via notification), and now my camera doesn't work at all. Snapchat also crashes when trying to use the camera (so not necessarily the camera app).
In the camera app, a half-press on the camera button is recognized, but there is no focus beep, and tapping on the screen doesn't focus. When I try to take a picture, the app freezes.
Is there any fix, or possibly to revert back to the previous firmware?
Android 4.4.2 is very buggy and not very stable, it seems a factory reset or even a device repair through sony PC companion should do the job

Thanks for the info. I haven't had any previous problems with the phone, this is the first time. I'll try a repair and see if that solves the problem (if not, then factory reset).

Yah, it should be fixed in the next upcoming update or the next majour since these bugs are android bugs and not sony caused

Hi there, proud new owner here, a tiny bit dissapointed with washed out colours /Im coming from an unbeatable amoled screen of Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7/ and not being able to sync my Jawbone Up /did anyone manage to find a solution for that?/, but my main problem is facebook messenger crashing. Does that happen to any of you? I¨m C6833 14.2.A.0.290. THANKS!
Oh, I think it actually might be due to a microphone not working properly, I am on UK C6833 with the lates firmware update. Just run the device test and it is showing me that "microphone failed" every time, also attempted some recordings and there's no sound. Does anyone else have a problem with mic? Should I have it replaced?

AFAIK, the device test tests the hardware connection itself as well as drivers etc, so if it's failing I think it's a hardware issue. I'd get it fixed on warranty if I were you. Who's your network?

I'm on Three UK, phone from Ebay...tu du dun duuunnnn...But alas, I've found out now, that it is only the facebook messenger app that messes up the microphone. It goes disconnecte and won't come back up until the reboot only when I attempt a voice recording through facebook messenger. Tried older version of messenger too to no avail. Hmmmm, mindboggling.

Have you tried Skype? I mean, you could try it and see if it works there (do a test call), and if it does, it's clearly something with the messenger app and not the hardware.
And, this thread should be in the Q&A section and not general.

Haha, i don't have any FB stuff on my phone
EDIT: Fine, i'll install it and see if it works.
EDIT 2: It's the same thing here. It works fine until i try to record audio, and then it just freezes up and crashes. Contact FB so they can fix it (good luck with that).

Facebook or more Apps problem with bootloader unlocked Sony Xperia Z Ultra (C6806)
After factory reset my beloved C6806 (Sony Xperia Z Ultra ) and unlocking the bootloader through the Sony official unlocking procedure, I found my Facebook, Gmail, SMS and more apps started failing to run. Especially Facebook app, it just worked once after fresh installation. After restarting the phone, the Facebook app was no longer work. The screen kept flashing several times and then exited. I was never able to make it work again.
The only way to reviving the Facebook app was through clearing data in the app (Settings>Apps>Facebook>Clear Data). However, It required login to Facebook again then worked until the phone restarting. The same symptom repeats again, again and again. I am so frustrated because the problem of instability then extended to more apps. I had also tried to install Messenger or old version of Facebook App but there was no luck at all to solve the problem. The phone started running unstable.
I originally planned to install a custom ROM and root the phone in order to resolve the problems. In that moment, I had an idea and guessed that the problems might be caused by the bootloader. The I use Flashtool and lock the bootloader.
Wow La .................. All the problems are solved and no more problem existed.
If you have the same problem with Sony smartphone and the phone is bootloader unlocked, please try to relock the bootloader again. It may solve most of your problems.
Additional note: Some people have mentioned the problem of Xperia For Facebook. This is the hint for me to think about the source of problem coming from the bootloader. Sony's default apps have a habit to check the bootloader status of the phone before running like FOTA Update. No more update is avail for those unlocked bootloader Xperia smartphones. So do not use Official ROMs if you want to unlock bootloader. (However, many apps will stop running with custom ROMs like bank apps or Google Pay.) Please install custom ROMs with unlocked bootloader Xperia smartphone. Do not keep using the Official Version ROMs because this will be your beginning of nightmare.

........calm down. You can't base your conclusion on that vague investigation.
Stock rom is so old and abandoned sony haven't added anything new to it like blocking facebook.
Yes some app developers are starting to block access to rooted devices is different ways.
There is no signs that facebook ie microsoft is blocking rooted devices yet.
But recently google is implementing only a simple block so you cant download the app from play store. But you can simply install the apk manually.
You should try something else first. Like flashing a stock rom ftf. Wiping the whole phone after the unlock including internal storage and sdcards. Even if unlocking wipes the phone.
The camera app on my Droid DNA crashes whenever I open it or another application that uses the camera. I am currently running CyanogenMod (11-20140405-SNAPSHOT-M5-dlx), however it behaved the same way on the stock ROM (4.1.1 and 4.2.2). When this first happened, it would work for about a week, then not work for a week. But now it seems to permanently not be working. I am wondering whether this would be a hardware issue, or if there is something software related that needs fixed. I should also add that the front camera works just fine. I will attach system and kernel logs too. They are filtered to show anything with the word "cam" present. They are in the .docx format because they're color-coded, but plaint .txt files will be there also.

I just open any application that uses the rear camera, it sits for about 5-10 seconds, and then that application crashes.
I had this when I flashed to the M5 snap from the M4 as well. Clearing the cache from the camera app fixed it for me.

Hmm...Well, this is taking it a micro-step further, and you've probably already tried this: Along with cache, clear the data. Try force stopping the app first, clearing the cache, then the data, in that order. It shouldn't erase your pictures, but as a precaution I'd back them up first.
Maybe even reflashing the M5 snapshot after that, if that doesn't work, would be worth a shot.
Hearing that you've had problems with the camera on the stock rom though makes me feel uneasy lol...it could be faulty hardware at that point.

Still not working. I am almost convinced that it is hardware related, but before I buy a new sensor, I'll hold out for Android 4.4.3 (the next rumored release in a week or two) as this release will supposedly have many bug fixes. That's probably the last step before I call it a hardware issue.

Before calling it a hardware problem, I would try a clean flash of the latest CM nightly and if it still happens to post logs.

When you say clean flash do you mean not restoring any apps, etc?
If you have nothing but the ROM and gapps installed and it does this (the logs agree with you that not much happened for 6 seconds then the camera stopped) then it is possibly a hardware problem.

I've tried safe mode, and the problem still exists. To my understanding, this is the same as a clean install because only system and gapps are allowed to run.
Hi,
I have been playing with my xperia z2 for over a month now, i have 2 major issues.
1. When i am in facebook playing video, it will then show up a message saying "Sorry, but an unknown error occurred while trying to play this video"
i have tried clearing the cache or uninstall facebook. The best result is for those video that cannot be played in the beginning, it now can play but problem switched to another video
2. when talking on the phone, background noise is always higher than my voice no matter if i turned on the enhancement to reduce the background voice. It will get even worse if it is off.
any solutions to that?
I agree with you about facebook video playback. It really gets on my nerves!!! But also if u r using streaming videos on ur browser also. Same problem. I hope they fix this stupid problem.
Also proximity sensor bug. The phone sceen blackens during a call but u actually accidently click things while ur phone is on ur ears.
One lousy bug is the sound. The phone's sound volume is very loud but at sometimes all of a sudden it becomes muffled by itself and gets so low!
The one i hate most is a bug with messaging. Sometimes it doesn't becomes sooo delayed when u try opening a msg or even doesn't want to open at all.
Another one is the hotspot. Sometimes it doesn't want to be enabled. U have to restart the phone to enable it.
I have an htc one m8 and it's more stable concerning software, but i really love my Z2.
I hope they fix these bugs esp. video and msg bugs!!!

just replying to my search,
to prevent the video playback issue.
Just disable the xperia for facebook. then the problem is gone. I have not seen the issue again.
However, during the phone call, back ground noise is always louder than my voice still persist.
My issues are the soft key buttons on screen. Doesn't matter what I do the home button and the recent apps button lag horribly!

I havent been able ti use my camera since the start of times... I gave me "unfortunately, camera has stopped error", stupid thing is I'm in no shape to return this piece of junk, because I world in a jungle with EGDE internet, and I can't go back to civilized world for another month... I've tried a reset, factory reset, uninstall updates, flashing firmwares from other countries... so, I reached a conclusion, that Sony can't manufacture smartphone...

my friend had this camera issue before, he have done all the things you have done before.
the only option is to return the phone to Sony for repair, it takes less than 4 hours even on sunday (local agreement of repairing)
so it wasn't that bad...
Issue was he dropped the phone and the connection from camera to the board is broken(this is was sony said)
After 4.4.4 update my camera moves slow and its not smooth.
Does repairing phone with pc companion will fix laggy camera ?
Sry for my english
Make clean install and check again surely this solve the lag
It was ment to happen, it was changed to save battery and make less heating
Yes, the camera is laggy. But after using again and again and after few reboots, it should be fine.

Well if you can bring it back where you bought it and have it exchanged. If you can't, save everything and try a factory reset. You could also try to flash your phone. Therefore save all you need. Perform a factory reset from your settings menu, download the same ROM that is on your device currently (there are How-TOs in this forum), flash your phone using Odin and set it up. See if it works. If it doesnt work, it looks like a physical failure and you'll have to get it fixed. Shouldn't be too hard/expensive.
