I have a Galaxy S2 that I'm trying to get working right for my Daughter.
It has a problem with the camera. The phone works fine in it's entirety, except the camera. When you go into it, all looks fine, except the screen is blank. The icons are all there, they rotate as you rotate the screen, then 'depress' when you press them, but nothing actually works. The menu button at the bottom brings up the 'Edit Shortcuts' function, but at this point the camera app hangs and the only way to get out of it is to press the 'Home Button. Going back into the camera, it's where it was left, but still unresponsive. Here is a video of what it does, apologies that it's not always in focus, but gives the idea.

I've tried :-
Clear Camera Data
Factory Reset
Factory Reset + Wipe Cache
Reinstall Factory ROM package via Odin (XEU-I9100XWLSW)
...and various combinations of the above.
The phone is usable, but I'm a stubborn SOB and I really want to get it all working. Any ideas? I've seen a few threads over the 'net but nothing has helped me diagnose the problem with this phone....
Given you've already tried the obvious, it's fairly obvious what's going on & what the problem/fix is - the sensor is probably cactus = replace camera (if the working camera is important).

To be honest, it's not that obvious.
If it's the camera module at fault, it might be worth repairing. However, if it's more likely to be the motherboard, then probably not. Hence the question, to see if anyone had encountered the same problem.
To be honest, there's no way of telling whether it's the motherboard or camera module......
We don't have the phone in front of us to be able to diagnose the possible reasons. The camera breaking (for whatever reason) is a very rare occurrence for the S2, I think your thread is only about the 3rd thread of this type I've seen in nearly 20 months on this forum. The camera module itself is reasonably cheap/easy to replace......that is where I'd look first.....but (if memory serves me) I think I've read that there are 2 different versions of the module and they're not cross compatible..... So be aware that this might be a potential stumbling block.....
Here might be a good place to start your search......

I face a problem which is about the graphical rendering.
Some apps some button will appear as broken which makes me confuse.
And also when I using the browser to surf on some flash video website, it appear to have some broken rendering problem.
Just like the one you may got on computer 3D rendering.
I know the above are hard to understand, but I really don't know how to present those idea.
Sorry for that and also my bad English.
Thanks everyone who came in this post.
This shows the problem when using friendcaster.
Huh, sorry you are having issues. I have yet to see anything like this on mine.
Hope someone has an answer for you.
I'm not sure entirely what you are asking here... so I'll just ask you, what's wrong in the picture?
However, sometimes while web-browsing, certain pages won't show properly (things missing, or off page and you can't scroll to them). Often this can be fixed by changing the setting of the browser to load pages in PC format, (or tablet/phone/ipad). Sometimes just getting a different internet browser can help too.
As for apps having missing buttons - this could possibly be fixed by going into setting>manage applications>(whatever app it is)
-clear cache
-clear data
Then try opening it again. If it still doesn't work properly, uninstalling it and re-installing it might help (this worked for a friend with his phone just last night).
If you are really desperate to try everything, factory resetting your tablet might help - though you will loose all your data and it isn't garaunteed to help .
Other than that, you have to keep in mind that developers don't exactly have every device made available for them to test their apps on, and this being a honeycomb device, it already has lots of compatibility issues they have to tackle - perhaps a polite email to the developer of the app explaining your problem would result in them eventually making a fix for it. Be sure to include your version of Android (in full) and device name to help him narrow it down.
I wouldn't hold your breath waiting - I sent Gameloft a very polite email over a month ago requesting their support for sony tablet s, and so far, no change (half their games are still not compatibile).
sometimes on apps that aren't 100% compatable with the screen ratio or resolution, i have to press the little square with the arrows pointed outward near the clock and press either "stretch to fill screen" or "zoom to fit screen"
i had the same button issues with speedtest.net app
Thanks everyone who reply on this issue.
Actually what I am facing is about the "triangle" broken mark appear in the picture which show up in the app "Friendcaster".
I think the app should be a pad version as there were no arrow icon.
I am wondering is this a common issue, as I found out the issue of video site is a common one as I have a try out with some display tablet in the retailer.
Hi Guys,
Wondering if anyone has experienced the following issues. Following an OTA update to JB, I have noticed 2 serious issues which I can't seem to shake. Firstly, the back camera is not working. When loading the stock camera app, the output of the camera just shows weird static/green lines.. a bit like what it used to look like when try to play an NTSC video tape on a PAL system (yes I'm that old ).
Secondly, and more importantly as I use this for business, is that Gmail's "Show quoted text" function does nothing. So when I receive a forwarded email, I tap the "Show quoted text" button and nothing happens, making it impossible to read the forward.
Steps to resolve this issue that I have taken:
1) Force closed both Gmail and Camera Apps, then cleared data. No change.
2) Factory reset from system menu - no change, and now I have to set up my Prime again!
I don't want to flash anything for now, as this is a work device I am not allowed to install custom binaries (i know I could probably cover my tracks but really don't wanna risk much with such an expensive device).
If anyone has any tips or ideas I would very much appreciate the help.
Cheers all
Hello everybody I am new here and before posting this question I have read similar posts searching for my answer but none of them regarded my specific problem:
I just got a Star N7189 with android 4.2.1 and the first thing I did, because it was a used phone that my dad gave me, was to perform a factory reset.
My dad told me the phone was fine except the camera didn't worked, so I thought the factory reset could also help to fix this.
After the reset everything in the phone is fine and running without any problem except the camera. In first place there isn't even a camera icon or app, the only way I can access the camera is by sliding the screen after I press the lock/unlock button, and after a second of thinking it gives me the 'can't connect to camera' error.
I haven't installed any application or anything.
Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance.
just install another camera app

I've tried several other camera apps and all give me errors. All other apps run fine but apps that need to connect to the camera just fail and shut down lol maybe the phone doesn't have a camera at all and the lens in the back is just to pretend
Hello...
A few weeks ago, my work required us to install MobileIron. Hesitantly, I complied. I'm happy to say that overall, I guess it's been okay. Do I like that I can't save attachments on my rooted Galaxy S4? No.
But I soon realized just how much MobileIron sucks. My camera still works, but the camcorder does not. When I launch the camera and then click the camcorder button, my phone locks up for about 8 seconds, and then I get the message: Warning Camera Failed. Seriously? Is this is a coincidence that my camcorder fails now that MobileIron is installed? I hardly think so.
Today I called MobileIron support, and just flat out asked the first guy that answered whether it's possible to disable the video camera on Android phones. I told him I was evaluating the product. He put me on hold for about minutes, and then said, "Yes, you can disable the video camera as long as it's on a Samsung SAFE device." My Galaxy S4 is one of their "SAFE" devices, so perhaps that's what our IT MobileIron administrator did. I don't really want to ask, as doing so would draw attention.
Does anyone know of a workaround to get my camera working again? I tried all of the silly little anecdotes for the "camera failed" message I found on the Internet: restarting five times, clearing cache, etc. Nothing works. I'm pretty sure this has to do with MobileIron.
Thank you!
Our company made the switch from GOOD to Mobil Iron en masse. No one likes it. Very bizarre in terms of reliability, slow ( every folder refreshes when opened, meaning long delays EVERY time), and messages may or may not fully appear when opened. Ourexecs thought they could save a few bucks but now they are pissed too. Can't wait to unload this app.
Hello everyone. I just got this phone the other day after returning the galaxy s5. I am loving it but I have one issue and maybe I'm just doing something wrong.
Everytime I take a picture in the camera app after tapping the check button, the camera closes and I return to the home screen. Does anyone else have this problem or is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?
Not normal. If the phone is stock (unrooted, etc.) I would try a factory reset (backup any personal data first) and see if the problem persists.
Only time I see a check in camera app is when sending picture via mms and it asks where I want to send [email protected],camera etc... if this is case of attaching picture directly from camera to an mms then this is a normal function, if taking a picture and it just closes then this is not normal reaction
Well it seems that the problem has resolved itself. I was just about to post a screen shot of the check mark so you guys could see it and then it just starting working as normal. Thanks for the responses and I'll post here if it comes up again.
Ok the problem returned... I showed the issue to a buddy who has the same phone and it also turned out that I was missing several options on the camera. I did a factory reset and the problem persisted.
I think I found the issue... I was using Google Now Launcher. Apparently that launcher doesn't play well with the camera. I uninstalled the launcher and voila, all the features (video, zoe, dual camera, etc) are back and the camera no longer closes after taking a pic.
Anyone else want to test this theory and see if happens?
confirmed issue and workaround
Hi there,
I can confirm that the Now launcher uses the native Google camera instead of the Zoe camera. I have also found that from the lock screen with the now launcher installed, unlocking by pulling the camera icon opens the full HTC zoe-enabled camera again. I find this super annoying as I'd like to have Google launcher and have the camera work properly. Anyone know a fix for this other than my workaround?
Ditto for T-Mobile HTC One (M7)
There's a lot I really like about the Google Launcher, but this just drives me nuts. I didn't really understand the workaround suggested here ( though I have no doubt it works). But the suggestion sounded on target. So, I went into my app list and shared it from there. It didn't do the funky stuff any more. I wonder if there's a setting to change that behavior: like someone thought, Hey, take a picture and go back to our regular programming? It's a shame because I really feel that the Google camera takes better picture.
In any case, just to let folks know that this is a real problem. The OP was on target.
To anyone else having this problem that does not use Google Now Launcher, another app that causes this is Omni Swipe. The default camera button in the tools section isn't the right camera (not sure what it's trying to access but still). If you add the correct camera app to the app section, it'll be fine.
Yes, this solved my problem as well. I went back to the default launcher and now the camera is working fine
