I just rooted my Note 3 using Towelroot method and it didn't trip the Knox counter
1. Just install Towelroot.apk from http://towelroot.com/
2. Open Towerroot to root than reboot
3. install Root checker from the Play store to check root
4. install Supersu from http://download.chainfire.eu/447/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r4.zip - Unzip and install APK, open and let it uninstall Knox and Reboot.

Did you install the Supersu from Chainfire website? the website one is the most current and it should work, though the unistall of knox took long time, i waited for 5 minutes and while it's still running the unistall I rebooted and everything is fine now.

How to enable wifi tethering now?
BEST POST EVER.
One of my kids pushed the OTA through when I had rebooted into stock and let her use my phone for a day. Two weeks of Hell, but I knew someone would find the way through this darkness!!
GREAT job! Thank you!!!
This works perfectly, just follow the instructions to the letter!
Too much following of directions
I towelrooted this morning, installed SU (chainfire's) - got the same error "cannot parse package" - however it worked even though when I went in SU it said the binary was wrong and updating it would fail (play store version). Tried to do the CWM method since i got frustrated at the SU error - and the CWM soft bricked the phone. Now im going to odin it back to stock - when the download is done in 2 hours... Oh well all is fair in device freedom and rooting : )
Proud Note 3 owner of ~96 hours so far : )
P.S. Geohot is amazing.
---------- Post added at 08:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:55 PM ----------
Also, of note - titanium backed up the phone prior to the soft bricking - titanium on NC4 still suffers the cannot write to external SD issue.. FYI - if you think your schedules will run - might want to double check.

NC4 Stock Rooted!
Just found the Towelroot information off the internet and decided to apply on my stock NC4 rom.
It worked fine without any issues!
Installed the APK file and ran it. After the reboot, I installed SuperSu too. Now I'm able to install and invoke all APKs requiring root access!
It seems like there's none yet mentioned about the Knox void count. I checked the Knox void count and it's still 0!
Thanks to Geohot for this great rooting apk!
Still no "perfect" love on SU
It did the busybox and twrp just fine - but still get the binary update message / close on SuperSU
After the data wipe / redownload of UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r4.zip .. same result.
it works, and prompts - just cannot enter the application. Guess its just wait until further version.
Thanks for the guide - worked perfectly (steps wise) - now to tip Geohot and go to bed.
I have successfully rooted and installed safestrap on my stock nc4 note 3 however when I try to install jellybeans build 6 into romslot 1 and boot to it, the phone never shows a boot screen after the safestrap screen. I get a blue led and nothing else.
Any ideas? Maybe 4.3 isn't compatible with the new modem?

A couple of weeks ago I successfully rooted my Galaxy S3 using the toolkit - everything including superSU worked fine and dandy.
Because of problems with the device freezing I downloaded the latest update to 4.1.2 using KIES - this of course took away root access.
I uninstalled all the various root apps I had installed and used the phone for a few days to make sure the problem was solved
Today I re-rooted using the toolkit in the same way - all went fine and the phone was rooted and I reinstalled rooted apps like ROM Toolbox Pro that I had already paid for.
When I loaded root apps I got the superSU prompts to allow them which all worked ok. However when I went into SuperSU itself it tried to update the binary and failed each time. Chainfire let me have the latest update which I installed with Mobile ODIN - after that it still worked but the problem of failing to update binary still occured.
I then tried installing the same zip file in recovery using TWRP seemed to work ok BUT now I have the "No SU Binary installed and cant install - this is a problem". I tried again after a fresh install of the latest UPDATE SuperSU v1.10 from here - but still the same and now no rooted apps will run. Super User cant be uninstalled as Play reports that it is installed!I
can fathom a few possible options:-
1) Can I just install SuperUser (chains DD) from the Play store - will this work in place of SuperSU or is it just going to make it worse
2) Can I just re-run the Root Option in the toolkit again in the hopes that it will at least give me superuser rights even if I can actually updated SuperSU (as I had before) or do I need to unroot before rooting again
3) If I could find the download I could use CF-Root via desktop ODIN but I do want TWRP installed for ROM Toolbox to work at its best
Suggestions on these or other solutions welcomed - the phone is still working fine just no root access!
Try flashing cf auto root with Odin.

Cant update SuperSu v1.10
Im having the same problem! I tried using Superuser to update the binary and it did it successfully but when i try to open the app the problem's still there(I attatched a screenshot)! I was running the free v1.04 of this app and I liked it so much that a few days ago I decided to buy the Pro Version 1.05 through Google Play! Everything was working great than the next day I got a notice saying there was an update to this app (v1.10), so I install it and now it tells me to update the binary but when I choose to update, it gives me an error and restarts my phone ! I attached a screenshot of the error right before it crashes!!! I'm running a rooted HTC one S, with stock ROM (Jelly Bean 4.1.1) and custom recovery (ClockWorkMod), I have enough memory in my entire system!! I hope they fix this soon, I email the developer . If i get an answer i will post back the results here!!

Thanks
I just installed CF-Root using ODIN and my rooted apps can now access again BUT when I open SuperSU I am still getting the message to update the binary and the update then fails. The first time it failed it left SuperSU open and apparently functioning, not sure it registered the fact that I have paid for the pro version, though Google Play reports the pro update is installed and wont let me uninstall/re-install. If I cancel the option to update the binary the app just closes now. (odd that it didn't the first time)
So I am still where I started in that it will not update the binary and I am certainly not going to flash the update.superSU V1.10.zip file again because the first time I did that it made no difference and the second time it lost the binary file altogether. I imagine more S3 owners are going to come across this so I will sit tight with what I have and hope that Chainfire can get it working again
I downloaded the md5 file for TWRP and installed that with Mobile Odin so now I have TWRP back as well - still cant open supers but it is doing its job in the background which is the main thing for now
It doesn't seem to be a GS3 related problem. I have a HTC One S, yesterday I updated SuperSU to v1.10 and the app also asked me to update the binaries (as with any update). As you can imagine binaries installation failed.
I have tried to uninstall updates (via app manager) but it doesn't help because su has been deleted. I will have to root again and wait until SuperSU is fixed before updating.

Hey all, about a month ago I flashed Hyperdrive. I messed up not clearing cache/things and it left a few odd bugs that i just dealt with.
Since then I've decided to fix it all up and flash a new rom but now my Safestrap is saying i'm not rooted and SU is saying I don't have the binaries. I'd like to just get off this rom and into something fresh and without bugs but first I need to re-root it looks like. Any help on where to go from here?

Hey Josh,
Thought I'd jump im here because the post seemed relevant to the problem I'm having. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4, build NC5 with Verizon. I rooted phone with Towel Root and verified with Root Checker and Busy Box. I am using SuperUser Elite and the binary shows as outdated (in red) but when I tap to update it says downloading manifest.... fail. I then hit try again and it says superuser has stopped working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. I also installed Titanium Backup. I've read about downloading a zip and saving to sd card and then flashing rom and/or starting up in recovery mode and I am not familiar with doing any of that. Any help would be appreciated as I've about had it with the root thing. Thanks ahead of time.
Okay, I've been working on this all night and most of the morning. I upgraded my Sprint Note 3 via OTA to Lollipop (5.0). I attempted to root and my phone booted up and all of my apps stopped working--including System UI. I ended up just factory resetting. Somehow though, the root was successful.
Now I'm trying to install Clockwork Recovery so that I can Nandroid backup and install Xposed Framework. I'm having the hardest time find stuff for my phone. Is it that old that no one is updating stuff for the Note 3? Anywhoo, can anyone tell me the proper way to flash CW Recovery? I've tried all kinds of sources, but nothing is clearly indicated for my phone. I've even tried the ROM Manager and that soft bricked my phone.
Use TWRP 2.6.1. You will have better success.

Which of Chainfire's method? Those were the ones I tried. I don't see anything on his site for SM-N900P with Lollipop.
You can find philz cwm touch that you can flashbwith odin. If your upgrading to lollipop xposed isnt supported right now. If you cant find the files let me known I keep them backed up and can upload to Dropbox.

By the way cf-auto root works great. You flash it in odin as well
the NH7 tar on chainfires site works on OC5
Thanks all...I ended up flashing TWRP via flashify.
I thought I saw somewhere that xposed beta version was working for 5.0.
Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 SM-G750A AT&T Root. Plus Hotspot unlocked for Cricket or other
First step is to root your phone using King Root. This is the only known root to this day for the Mega 2 AT&T version that has the locked bootloader. It also wasn't known until a few days ago. It does not require a computer. Go to your security section in your phone settings and check unknown sources. Download King Root, run it and even without rebooting you will have root within a few minutes.
Here is the link where I found King Root right here on XDA. So I feel good posting the link.
In the first post at the end is the attachment. Be sure you use 4.0.0.233 because that's the one that worked for me. I attached the Root King 4.0.0.233 file at the bottom of this post.
It goes on to mention how to replace king root with supersu. I haven't tried to replace king root because it works fine like it is. If someone wants to try it let me know.
Also during my testing I tried to install a zip from my stock bootloader and it wiped my whole phone back to stock. I assume any changes we make to this rom can not be done flashing a zip because of the locked bootloader. After it wiped everything I still had root though. The root application was the only application left on my phone besides the stock bloatware. If you want to remove Root King you need the app so I guess it's good that the app stays unless you uninstall using its own app.
Now we can install Titanium Backup. Run it close it then go back and (pay for if you haven't done it before) get Titanium Backup Pro key that will allow you to freeze apps. So you can freeze all the apps that will try to update your phone.
You can also remove all the bloatware.
After days of trying different apps to get hotspot to work I found this on another forum. Rather then posting a link (to another site) I have made this shortened version from the original and have given credit to Max Lee. If you want the original thread that includes photos of each step then Google search the title I copied below.
This was not originally written for the Mega 2 but it works perfectly on our Mega.
How to Get Free Wifi Tether on Rooted Android! [AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon]
BY MAX LEE · JULY 2, 2014
Step 1. Download Xposed Installer and Xposed XTether APK files.
Download:
Download Xposed Installer APK
*http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
Download Xposed XTether APK
*http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.dym.motoxtether
*Step 2. Install both APK files.* You may have to check “Unknown Sources” ON under Settings->Security.
*Step 3. Once both apps installed, open Xposed Installer app then press “Framework”.
*Step 4. Hit “Install/Update”.* This will install Xposed Framework.* You can also uninstall it later down the road when you don’t need it anymore if you want.
*Step 5. Make sure you hit “Grant” or “Allow” when Superuser request window pops up!
*Step 6. Hit “Cancel” when installation is done.* Do not reboot yet!
*Step 7. Go to “Modules” in Xposed Installer app.
*Step 8. Make sure Moto Tether is checked ON.* This is actually the XTether app.
*Step 9. Once rebooted, try turning on your Wifi Tether Mobile Hotspot.* It should now be working without annoying messages from your carrier!* Congratulations!
My added steps.
* Step 10. To turn on hotspot you need to go to settings and press Tethering and Wifi Hotspot then press Mobil hotspot, finally slide the switch to on.
Go to Play Store and get HotSpot Toggle by Mehdy Bohlool.
This will make a widget you can put on you home screen to make it easy to turn on and off the hotspot without going through all those other steps each time you want to turn it on and off.
Install it then go to your widgets, find the HotSpot Toggle, grab it and drop it onto your home screen.
I am going to reserve this space incase later I need to add something.
what is ur firmware?I have a G750a on baseband G750AUCU3A0FA did not work...............neither any root method
thank you for the post anyway
I'm in the same page as you. I have the same baseband, and it appears that may have "fixed" whatever exploits others have found. I went so far as to fill up my phone with apps so it doesn't have enough room to download the AT&T updates anymore. I cannot stop these automatic updates without root. I've tried several Kingroot versions, including the one from this post. I've tried Towelroot with several different options. I sure wish I could get this thing rooted. The sandboxed SD card kills my emulation.
mine is updated as well and no root option is working at the moment which totally sux
Any1's able to share an ADB dump or the whole 5.1.1 firmware? :highfive:
I updated mine to 5.1.1 in hopes that one of the root methods would start working. Still no go with either Kingroot or Towelroot. I'd give the dump a try, but I don't think we can get an ADB dumb without root can we? If so, I would mind giving it a shot.
No root before modification of kernel itself (my opinion)

The gs4 that used to be unrootable if it was updated to lollipop, has now been able to root using a newer version of kingroot. Try again to root your att mega 2 on lollipop using one of the latest kingroot. A new bonus now is if you do get root from kingroot you can buy Supersume from the playstore and it will remove kingroot and replace it with supersu automatically. There is a free method to manually replace kingroot with supersu also.

Oh man, I did almost the exact same thing. Only difference is that I used a script instead of Supersu-me. I am too stuck in a boot loop, and cannot get Odin, Kies 2.6, Kies 3 or Samsung Smart Switch to work. Every time I get this error on my phone in download mode: "SW REV. CHECK FAIL. DEVICE: 3. This is the script I used to turn my phone into a boot loop:

"It's Not Free So Get The Wallet Out" Good Luck To You.........
Ok for those having issues of bootloop, there are easy ways to fix this.
If you are able to flash via Odin, just flash any firmware version on top of the one you have.
The device will probably boot normally, but will have issues inside OS. This issues should be fixed once you boot in recovery mode and wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache. BACKUP your suff in windows before you do the factory reset, just ignore the bugs in case they happen and backup your sutff viaSamsung Kies3/Smartswitch or normal windows browsing.
After your phone is back to normal, you can update to latest firmware again OTA WIFI, Odin, Kies/Smartswitch, SamFirm etc.

Apparently you can flash Stang5litre deodex ROM on OTA 5.01 using Flashfire. Since it's deodex maybe you can install xposed. I haven't tried it myself but if you go to the last couple of pages on the Stang5litre topic you will see post from those who were successful in flashing it on OC1.

I actually just installed Xposed the other day and wrote down what I did in case its needed in the future. Might as well share. You need to do all steps here (unless already on 4.4.2 then just root it and go form there).
Installed Samsung USB Driver
Downgrade from 5.0.1 to 4.4.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172
1. Added ALL_VZW_I545VRUFNC5_I545VZWFNC5_1151670_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 to AP in Odin 3.09
2. Added JFLTE_USA_VZW_16G.pit to PIT in Odin 3.09
3. Pressed start
4. Rooted using towelroot https://towelroot.com/
Install Lollipop 5.0.1 - rooted and dedoxed
http://www.droidviews.com/install-lollipop-on-verizon-galaxy-s4-and-keep-root/
1. Installed apps in 4.4.2:
a. Installed FlashFire app from appstore (need to be part of beta group. See link above) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.flash
b. Installed SuperSU app from appstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu1. Copied I545_OC1_Stock_DeOdexed_ROMwNK4_BL.zip to sdcard
2. Opened FlashFire – partitioning took a long time; endtasked after an hour or so
a. Added the OC1 in FlashFire
b. Unchecked Auto-mount
c. Unchecked all options under EverRoot, used Reboot settings
d. Tapped lightning bolt and pressed ok to flash
i. Took a while to reboot (around 30 minutes)
Install Xposed Framework
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3113463
1. After upgraded to 5.0.1, install FlashFire again – partitioning took 5 seconds
2. Installed XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk
3. Flashed xposed-sdk21-arm-20150430-arter97-V3.zip using FlashFire, same settings as above.
a. Optimizing app X of 238 popped up after reboot. Took around 20 minutes.

I think he is on stock 5.01. I don't believe you can downgrade to 4.4.2 from stock OC1.
