[Q] Replace recovery.img with cwm recovery - Micromax A116

This is my first time trying to root my Micromax Canvas HD.
I am trying to install CWM recovery using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167621
However I am stuck in the second step itself. I have extracted the "Kernel Source" SouceCode(IQ451_4.1).zip file. But I am not able to find any recovery.img file to replace. What is the problem here? Have I downloaded the wrong file? Should I download something else?
While trying to extract the zip file, Winrar asked me if I want to rename the duplicate files, because there were a few files with the same name but different size. I asked Winrar to rename the files. Is this a problem?
I am completely new to this field, so I am not exactly sure what I am doing wrong.
Any help regarding this problem would be of great help to me. Please tell me of the things that need to be taken care of before rooting my phone.
Thanks a lot.

Use mobile uncle tools instead of the above method.. Download recovery... Rename it to recovery.img... Place it in sd card... Not in any folder.. Just inside sd card.. Open mobile uncle tools... Update recovery.. It automatically detects the file in sd card... Select... Flash...reboot.. Done...
Hit thanks if this helped..

Is there no other solution? Will I be able to use the files that I have already downloaded?
I have tried loading the recovery.img file through the Flash tool, but it asks me to select the path for the PRELOADER..
How do I find the preloader file?

You can use the downloaded file... Why do you want to use the flash tools method when the thing can be done in 2 clicks..

just use Framaroot app and then Rashr app

U need to root chd to install custom recovery. To do so download framaroot app from framaroot.net . Then to install custom recovery just use Rashr (search it in google play)

Will this method work if you get a different device? Say downgrading from a Vibrant to a MT4G?

From rommanager flash clock work recovery then boot into recovery and find the zip and flash

Yes rename the zip file to update.zip but that should have already been done when you rooted your phone.
^ no. you never rename a rom.
Flash cwr
Reboot into cwr
Install zip from sd
Check out the noob guide (signature) for much more detail and steps.
You can do it from rom manager, but cwr still needs to be flashed.

There are two easy ways:
1st Method
1. Install a app named ROOT MANAGER from play store (PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FOR ROOTED DEVICE ONLY)
2. If you have already rooted, after installing that app it will ask to install a custom recovery ie. CMW (ClockworkMod Recovery)
3. Before selecting CMW, ROM manager app will ask your device model select accurately and proceed to Download CMW and install it. It will ask for a reboot
4. You are Done
2nd Method: (You must have a Computer)
1. Try to Download the zip file of CMW of your device (zip file differs for device to device, So choose carefully your model)
2. Extract that zip
3. Go to Download mode (Power+ Volume down)
4. Install Software named ODIN v1.85
5. Open Odin and Connect your device to computer.
6. Flash the extracted file using Odin.
7. Done mate

Here's how:
Download any flashable internal recovery zip file (e.g., flashable_CWM_6.0.2.9.zip from Succulent's repo http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery).
Use an archive file manager such as 7-zip to delete and replace the recovery.img inside the flashable zip file with your choice of TWRP (internal recovery) file from http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/acclaim (e.g., openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-acclaim.img); remember to rename the downloaded TWRP .img file to recovery.img before inserting it into the zip file.
Flash the resulting flashable recovery zip file using current EMMC recovery or SD-based recovery.

Q&A: Need help with TWRP?

Hi all! today i got this problem with TWRP. never seen this bug before. i tried flash a zip file from internal card or sdcard but have same result. pls help me how to fix it. now i cant install any zip file from recovery.

TWRP can copy error logs to your sdcard. If you do so, you can see the exact error in your zip files.
My guess is that your zip files were re-compressed using some 3rd party software like WinZip/WinRAR, or maybe the build-in Windows zip compressor. Hence these are probably missing something in the zip file-header that TWRP is looking for.
I faced a similar issue when I used the WindowsXP built in zip compressor. I would advice you to unzip your files, and re-zip them using Info-Zip.
http://www.info-zip.org/
I was able to flash my zip files after I re-compressed them using the command line zip tools from Info-Zip.

(URGENT) How to flash RAR files with CWM?

Hi. I am a newbie in flashing phones. I am having a Lenovo A850. I was planning to flash it to Android Marshmallow (CynogenMod) . It was really hard to find the ROM. Somehow I managed to find one here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...rom-unofficial-cyanogenmod-13-lenovo-t3724018 . Once I downloaded it, I noticed that it is in RAR format. I tried entering CWM in my phone, and the RAR file doesn't show up. CWM probably does not support flashing RAR files.
What should I do now?

What you do for a quick fix is to open the .rar file on your computer using a software like winrar, or 7zip. Then compress it using the software as a .Zip file then you can flash it easy as that.
Doing this is changing the file format all correctly with correct conversions so it should be alright. But be aware that this is a quick fix which I use and have success with. Not sure if it would work for you But it should, if it doesn't don't hit me ~ QAQ
Note that this is possible as well on phones using file manager with inbuilt rar,win support
