Black Screen with new Apollo Safestrap Recovery v3.72 - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I have made a factory-reset of my Kindle hdx 8.9
I have root my Kindle (Firmware14.3.2.3.2) with Towelroot and have install SuperSU too. After that I installed the new Safetrape. When I install the Recovery and reboot to Recovery after reboot I get the Kindle-Logo for a short moment and then the screen gets black. No chance to create/select an plot or something. Only a reset (hold the On-Button for 20 sec) get the Kindle back to the original rom.
Any idea?

Yup it's been like noted in several threads safestrap is not compatible with the newest firmware . Uninstall recovery and uninstall app

Safestrap only works on firmware 14.3.1.0/ 13.3.1.0 at this point.

Is there any way to downgrade from fw 14.3.2.3.2 to fw 14.3.1.0?

Yes, there is a method but it's highly recommend that you wait for an updated version of safestrap.

Look around here in the general section look around you will find all the bricks .. This device has a lock bootloader and no fast boot capabilities beware the recovery of this device is very difficult if not impossible if you screw up the wrong files at least currently

Safestrap MK2 Not Booting Into Recovery

I am running Hyperdrive 13 installed via safestrap 3.71 and my mk2 s4 DOES boot into the OS. Everything in the ROM works perfectly fine and I can reboot normally.
On each reboot, I see the safestrap splash screen asking if I want to boot into recovery or continue into the ROM and after 10 seconds it boots into the ROM automatically as expected.
When I try to boot into the actual recovery, however, I just get a black screen and I have to pull the battery. This happens even when I click reboot to recovery from the safestrap application in the ROM. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling countless amount of times, even rebooting after an uninstall and then reinstalling from the stock OS, yet nothing seems to work. I've tried manually installing busybox too, but still nothing. I do still have root access, verified with root checker too.
Please help
Thanks

I believe you ave to go into "Boot Options" and pretty much everything you do is in there. You choose a rom slot, then "Activate". Omce it's active, it will show green in the upper right (I think) of the screen, but if you activate the Stock rom slot, it will show RED in the upper right, warning you not to flash is this rom slot (although some have done it successfully for certain reasons, I believe).
I think they all know that... The op isn't able to get into SS at all from what I gathered. K1mu asked that to clear things up a bit... Could be wrong but that's how I took it

Yes this is correct sorry if it wasn't clear. No matter which method I try, I can't seem to boot into SS recovery. Rom Slot 1 is active so it just automatically boots into Hyperdrive.
Holding Volume up, power and home actually brings me into Manual Mode (is this normal?)
EDIT: To clarify, safestrap has worked before. When I flashed HD13 in the rom slot, it booted into HD but now it won't let me go back to safestrap recovery and I can't flash another ROM. Stock rom slot is still in tact as well.

When you boot, Safestrap should show up if it's installed. What I'd try is to open Safestrap and toggle the recovery (uninstall it, then reinstall it).
NOT uninstall the Safestrap application as that'll wipe any slots you've created. Open Safestrap, then "Uninstall Recovery" followed by "Install Recovery". Hopefully that'll get your recovery back without losing your slots.

I believe that i'm having a simiular issue.
I can't get into safestrap. I'm running HyperDrive 13, and i installed it onto the stock slot after playing around with the different slots.
It was working without issues for a while, whenever i restarted i got the safestrap screen, but now that RLS14 is out, when i restart to get into safestrap it just boots me straight into RLS13. I don't see the safestrap boot screen that gives me the option to change slots.
Any idea on what it might be?

Go to Safestrap in your app drawer and "install recovery." If Safestrap isn't there, run a file manager and install the .apk again.

Hey guys, I recently got a replacement device from best buy because my old ones screen broke. I successfully rooted the new device using the towelroot method. I just tried to install the loki recovery via goomanager and when I rebooted it just boots into odin mode and says that it "could not do normal boot." I've tried everything I can think of but cant get it to boot. Any help?

I believe you are going to have to go with SafeStrap 3.72. You don't have an unlocked bootloader but Safestrap isn't bad. You can still install some really good roms
The problem is that I can't boot my phone now. It just boots into Odin mode. When I got my phone originally it wasn't mdk so I didn't have to deal with safestrap. So I didn't know there was other options.

[Q] Trouble Booting into Recovery

Since there is no longer GooManager at the Google Play Store, I cannot open up TWRP recovery. The replacement app at Play store is TWRP manager but it does not boot into recovery, it boots into downloads. Holding down all three buttons and releasing the power button or holding all 3 buttons down only leads to the download screen. Any advice as to how to get into recovery. I am on SCH-i545 4.4.2

That's hard to say really. You can try to install SafeStrap but if that failed install of CWM due to the locked bootloader gets in the way obviously Odin is the best bet.
I'd just have your Odin file ready.

People install TWRP 2.8.4.0 on supported FW (x.3.0.5 - x.3.2.3) through adb shell or with flashify app. Dont try this on your FW, x.3.2.7 - x.3.2.8 are not supported!!!

If you can boot into system then good chance only recovery is hosed. Look in the recovery directory under root for an appropriately named .img file. This is likely a stock recovery and can be restored via adb or flashify. Reach out if you can't find the image or need to verify the MD5.
Awhile back I did something similar to a device running 3.2.6 (duh). Momentary panic! Restoring stock recovery was easy and opened up other options which I would not have tried with a borked recovery. Your choices are more limited being on 3.2.8. Safestrap + Nexus ROM is solid. I don't believe CM11 works with Safestrap. Rooted stock with gaps and sideloaded apps isn't bad either IMO .
Uhh, my device is fixed. TWRP did nothing to my device...

Ahh, sounded like you lost recovery. Glad all is well.

Safe to restore stock rom after root?

I screwed up my stock slot and was wondering if its safe to reset it as long as i disable OTA IMMEDIATELY after said restore?
I do not have any other roms on my device.
Bootloader is locked.
I DO HAVE SAFESTRAP ACTIVE (what im worried will screw up the restore).
I am rooted.
Yes, my device slot is beyond manual repair (system ui crashes with unknown error, libwebview crashes with missing index error, etc.).
Moral of the story: don't fall asleep ontop of your tablet whilst wakelock is active and es filemanager is open.
I just need to know if there is any risk of bricking my tablet or worse, efusing it.
Yes.

So you didn't backup your stock slot, i.e. you can not restore that backup via Safestrap?
Using an official Amazon file for this is quite risky.
Would be interesting if someone would've a Safestrap backup of the Fire OS you need - which Fire OS and Safestrap versions are on your HDX anyway?

You will likely loose access to Safestrap recovery if you to a 'factory reset' from stock recovery. Even if it does work you likely won't get to a usable version of FireOS. As I recall adb and other forms of tethered communication are difficult/impossible with Safestrap v3 (you didn't say) so restoring an image captured elsewhere will be a challenge. There are reports OSX can communicate via adb in Safestrap v4. Haven't tested that. Would have to track down the post to see if it applies; need more details before investing the effort.
You don't have a lot of good options. Best keep reading. In your shoes I would NOT do a factory reset as it's an extreme long shot that will remove any hope of recovery if it does not work.

You should've clarified that you were talking about a factory reset. I thought you were just restoring a backup within Safestrap.
Frankly, I'm not sure it'll solve anything. A factory reset doesn't just magically fix everything; it will only wipe the /data partition, so any changes you made to /system will still be there.
If you can still boot into Safestrap, I'd try getting a stock system image onto the device and flashing it from there.

To further clarify flashing any stock rom is risky in Safestrap. Best use one from here. Your bigger problem is getting anything, including an image file, on your device given you can only boot into Safestrap.
