Speaker buzzing. - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Anytime I play any type of audio for 3-4 seconds afterwards there a audible buzz from the speaker. Also happens when I hit the home, back, etc buttons. Low volume buzzing that is driving me nuts. Bought new off swappa, but since where I ordered no warranty. Anyone else ran into this issue? Is there a fix or is it hardware. When audio is playing it is perfect, but as soon as I cut whatever sound was playing it happens again for 3-4 seconds.

I've noticed exactly the same thing. I'm wondering if its the audio settings I've changed (equalizer, xloud etc) but I havent tried to mess with it yet as its not driving me too crazy. Tho if there was a fix I'd flash that in an instant

do you have a minijack-to-minijack cable?

Yup, it's the Clear Audio option that does it, or it was on earlier versions, so disable that and it should get better.

The thing is I found a thread mentioning the same. I've done that and enabled /disabled any and all sound effects that I have found. All does it, although it seems to be lower today than it was yesterday. Either that or is just placebo because I'm hoping it will do away.

Could also be a song or an album that's louder than the rest. You know when the volume is at 100, and you push it even further, it'll sound like crap.

Yeah none of those things mentioned fixed it for me either. Maybe its just inherent in the audio engine on some chipsets or something

do you want to try something, maybe see if the problems we have are somehow related?

I think I have the same problem, had crappy speakers on stock lg,
Flashed a cyan base ROM with DSP Manager installed.
Speakers are a million times better except a buzzing sound every 3/4 minutes.
YouTube Apk, Browser YouTube, XBMC, Music Player its all the same.... Even games lol!
Like a buzzing that interrupts all sound for like half a second then normal sound resumes :/
Its only a small problem but it's a pain in the ***
Any idea what this could be?
A DSM Manager bug or a CM bug?

It's probably the clearaudio setting. I got that every time after a notification or sound

If anyone has a couple minutes to spare, could you try the following?
you will need this mp3 file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3k5joo2HfboRXZwY3JCMDZiSHc/edit?usp=sharing . it is a 2 second long, 1 kHz tone at -3 dB encoded as standard mp3. A simple beep.
disable touch sounds on the phone. the tick tick that it does when you tap on the screen. we don't want inteference with other sound sources.
set that beep as ringtone and notification tone on the phone.
set music volume to just above 0 on phone. the lowest possible without muting it
start playing some music on phone
go to volume settings, the window with the 3-4 sliders.
the experiment is: tap somewhere on the ring or notification volume sliders, wait 10 seconds at least, repeat
does it play the beep with a hiccup? it is quite short when you listen to it this way. if you have headphones on, the pop should be very loud through the headphones.

What does this experiment do?

I just experienced some buzzing when I was changing my ringtone (1 second static noise after each play), and I noticed that I had Dynamic Normalizer enabled with xLOUD, and the buzzing went away as soon as I disabled Dynamic Normalizer.

I think that even though it doesnt show up in the stock HTC player, the sound effect works. The HTC player doesn't have the integration for sound effects from third party apps. If you want the settings, download the official Android music app from the market. Just search "Google inc." On the market.

I do not recommend using eq's or volume boosters on your speaker, even dsp manager through you phone speaker that can possibly damage it as the amplification of sound can damage the small speaker or distort the sound. as far as the headphones or, external speakers using a 3.5 mm jack it works flawlessly. if you want to boost your phone's built in speaker this app isn't for you.

I appreciate the advice, though I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that I was trying to boost volume. A flat line EQ (or how it comes stock) sounds terrible on a tiny driver like the phone speaker. I use it to control lower frequencies, so that I can have it at higher volumes and not cringe any time a deep tone comes through. But obviously, that doesn't work well in a set of nice headphones, hence my comment...

Yes, as someone who has been interested in this app for a while, it does need GB to work...I'm using it now on the eViL 3.0 fusion rom. For those on 2.3 and up, definitely try it...it's produced the best sound I've experienced yet with my mt4g.

i use virtuous fusion and i used this app for a while. it does work good and i did get the occasional fc but the music still went on. i ended up switching to Playerpro, which has pretty much the same equalizer built in and it is better than the stock music player for htc. i would suggest this, as even the trial version is great.
did anyone else notice the bass difference between CM7 and Fusion? I used DSP on CM7 and my headphones would turn into subs, but in Fusion its almost 50% less even with equalizer + playerpro both turned up....?

[TIP] Increase volume without root

The sound coming from my speakers was pretty low. I was going to download Volume+ but decided on a no -root method. Download Equalizer and set all the values to the max and enjoy a nice crisp, loud sound.

this is a nice app but its just adjusting equalizer setting. Volume + is an actual speaker mod that dramatically increases speaker volume depending on how high you set the boost. Already confirmed it with a decibel meter with volume + on and off. plus it has bass boost and an equalizer also if you choose to use. Its more in depth with adjusting the sound and also has preset values if you don't want to go advanced n mess with equalizer.
Also, Volume + doesn't need root. The app you describe here does look nice but isn't a real volume booster. Just a nice looking equalizer. With volume + you'd be amazed how much louder your prime sounds n crisp n clear also.
Why does the page for Volume+ in the market emphasize that a custom ROM is highly recommended?

how are you guys noticing a difference. I have had it as high as +10 and found no changes. Tried it with headphones as well, no difference.

You have to make sure to follow the instructions it gives you "EXACTLY" I left mines on good quality with volume boost at like +6 and bass boost at +5. works great and I confirmed it with a decibel meter(got app from marketplace and put it on my Atrix to test the Prime). It definitely is alot louder. Unless you really know what you doing, I wouldn't mess with the advanced settings and equalizer.
Another little thing, that if you did follow instructions and doesn't seem to work, this may be the reason and can easily changed. Go to Asus quick settings. go to settings. then go to sound. then press "Music fx". there make sure the Volume+ is checked off. that should enable it. I think ICS added that Music fx feature and if volume+ not checked off, might not work.
Just hit back here or actual Volume+ thread in themes n apps section. Actually be better in actual thread. not trying to thread hijack. Can help more if needed in other thread.

Make ringer volume and notification separate ICS

OK, I'll try one more time. I found a great solution to a huge problem in that my ringer and notifications on on the ICS Rom's have the same slider. WTF??? This was a major issue for me. I want my phone to ring but not want to hear every email and text that hits my phone. I just found and app on the horrible named "Play Store" and it's called "ICS Enhanced Ringer Control" and it works. Yes it's $2.99 but well worth it if you are one who is like me and very frustrated about the volume control problem.
Maybe I'm late to the party but I've tried I think all the ICS Rom's and this was an issue with them all.
If that helps then I'm happy for everyone else also.
Thanks for pointing this app out. Truly stupid thing to removed this option from ics. Why did they do it?

It's one of the great mysteries of the modern day why this was not changed in ICS as it was great with gingerbread, froyo etc. Must remember that the ICS we have here is a "leaked" version being used on these Rom's, at least this is my understanding.
On gingerbread you could select if the notifications were tied to the ringer, you can't do that on ICS?

Headphone volume to loud at minumum

Hey guys, I've been having some problems with volume control on most of the roms out there. Most of the roms I've tried so far seem to have a loud volume at the lowest level. An exception would be Shotock2, which has perfect volume control in my opinion. But i'd like to use other roms based on AOSP or other Samsung bases. Is there a way to edit the volume control in someway? I made this post after I've tried everything i can think of. That includes using fluxxi kernel and its volume control options, using audioboost apps, and using softer equalizer settings. But nothing has worked for me. I was hoping to see if it was possible to edit some file somewhere on the system that allows you to bring down the volume. Any help would be great.
Maybe not the answer you're looking for but, have too tried headphones with a volume control on them?

If the ROM you're using has DSPManager, try lowering the bars on the equalizer under 'headset' (after enabling it of course). I know it works for music but I'm not sure about apps and other things

I'm trying to remember as this was a quite a long time ago. On the lowest setting, the audio was so loud that I was able to hear it without putting the headphones on (well, I had earbuds) I had this issue with CM7 and CM9. I went into DSPManager and enabled Bass Booster (it seems to lower the volume a bit) and enabled the equalizer. I set the equalizer to about this (Remaking it to my best estimate to what I had the equalizer set to before)

I've tried this too but i felt like it kinda ruined the point of an equalizer. Thanks for the suggestion though. Honestly I'd stick with Shotock2 if the battery life wasn't so bad on my phone. I love that rom.
I just downloaded this app is called Fine Volume and it works great for lowering the volume down to 1 percent even.

4.4.4 Issues

If you have any issues with latest update 4.4.4 write them here.
My issue: Extreme huge battery drain (In 5 hours off-screen from 100% to 14%) (FIXED)
On the other hand, my battery has been never better. I have superb battery life on 4.4.4

Uhm... We aren't psychics or anything, so we'll need A LOT more details.
The speaker volume seems to be too low! Can barely hear it. Was on the GPe ROM before this, and I am certain it was louder.
Any hacks to boost the volume without distorting the sound or blowing up the speaker?
Edit - Boosted the speaker volume to 98 in mixer_paths.xml, and now I can at least hear it!
No bugs yet for me

I'm running 4.4.4 GPe, and I just checked the loudness of my speaker by using a dB meter app on my Desire HD, and I'm not complaining at all.
Again, it seems like one group of Ultra owners have a loud and good speaker (like I do), and a second group who has a lower quality speaker. This isn't the first time this topic is up around here.

Indeed. That was with my DHD straight next to my Ultra, and this was one of the few times where I've pushed the volume to max. I usually have the ringer volume on 60-80% and I hear it easily when it rings.
This is stock 4.4.4 GPe without any volume mods or tweaks. xLOUD is enabled and that's it.
Has anyone in the US gotten this update yet?
after the update i can't turn off the phone using the power off in the power menu..the power button is working fine even the screenshot and airplane mode is working.
Little info: Now is 4.4.4 rolling out in Germany, Spain, Turkey and other regions across Europe.
Call quality and low speaker volume
I am experiencing Call quality and low speaker volume after 4.4.4 update
Anyone else experiencing same?
Any tweak or compatible app for speaker volume? Mine is not rooted.
More bugs ..
Search in contacts is slow and buggy
Contacts list renders slow
Linked contacts lookup doesn't work as before
Weird dial pad..says "Enter name or number.
I wish I could go back to 4.4.2.
Ther is nothing stopping you flashing back down to 4.4.3 or 4.4.2 if the bugs are too much
I know this is an issues thread but have to say - I have no issues what so ever..
I did have "exchange services stopped" issues and sony email app issues that couldn't be solved by clearing cache/data.. but I fixed those (really well, I grabbed exchange bypass patched versions and now have full Hotmail email, contacts, calendar etc sync'ing)
sound is very good for me after previously having to hack away at xmls to get decent volume output.
all in all very happy with the update noticed slightly less free ram on 108 but at the risk of being flamed "unused ram is wasted ram" lol
Google Now
Until I got the update I was a avid user of Google Now, but after the update it says "Google Now is not available in your country". Don't know if anyone else is experiencing this.
I confirm the low speaker volume issue, I compared to another Z Ultra that is running 4.4.2 compared to my 4.4.4 and my volume was about 25% lower than the other phone
Any way to resolve this?
