OTG - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Can somebody verify otg connection is working for this tablet?
I tried my cable but it does not turn the device into usb host mode.

A quick test with a usb host testing app showed that this tablet has no usb host capabilities. Shame.

BS - of course this tablet has USB host functionality.
Via the usual OTG adaptor you can connect the usual USB sticks, hard drives (with own power supply), mice, keyboards etc.
It has even a special feature (can be activated in audio settings) for connecting a USB DAC for high-quality sound / recording.

Yes, it works w/o problems

Cool, looks like that test app isn't very accurate then.
This is the result it came up with:

If @datalkingx means with OTG connection to connect USB Flash Drive, Keyboard, etc. then it works, if he means something else then I don't know

Micro usb audio connector

Is it possible to use the micro USB audio connector for audio? After rooting, the audio application of the android does not recognize the mp3 files to play. Why not let it do so?
I think that would require USB host mode like on the Samsung galaxy. I think that means needing extra hardware doesn't it? -otherwise I would expect every phone to be capable of it
edit: It is possible but you can fry stuff. Info on NookColor forum
USB host = great possible enhancement?
I wanted to post to proper thread, however I am new here I was not allowed to post on developers forum. So I hope that this post will still somehow find its way there. It also includes your original question.
Since some USB features are now claimed to be working, I wanted to ask directly poping out questions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21669750
Is it possible to...
1.) disable on-screen keyboard while using USB one?
2.) connect USB soundcard like: http://www.usbgear.com/computer_cable_details.cfm?sku=USBG-X2X&cats=121&catid=121%2C136%2C134
To allow listening mp3, Skype calls.... ?
3.) connect USB Ethernet card like: http://www.usbgear.com/205528.html
4.) to connect other cool usb stuff like: GSM, printers ... whatever
thanks you developer guys, I hope I'll once manage some time to learn more about the system and developement so that I could contribute too !
thanks to androind and nook simple touch creators!

Currently the answer to all of the above is no
The USB host mode patch was done for a specific project (USB keyboard support) and while I have been spending some time playing around with Bluetooth I'm not aware of any other dev(s) working on expanding this atm.
Stuff like audio, networking and Bluetooth requires _a_lot_ more than just the kernel accepting to communicate with the device.
thats shame. allowed skype calls would be great
Skype calls are working on my nook with OTG + USB audio card on usb host mode. But it is a bit difficult ))).
To update these older posts:
Yes, it is possible to disable the soft keyboard when using a USB keyboard.
See NullKbd in the signature.
Yes, Skype works fine.

Where is the difficulty?
Do a logcat and look for overruns and errors.
There were a few mods done to make Skype work.
so an external usb sound card is working?
Yes, an external USB audio adapter can work.
As a portable solution it's a bit cumbersome.
I don't know what current they usually draw, but my cheapy one draws 75 mA.
A desktop solution with powered hub (charging the Nook), a USB adapter and speakers works fine.
Would USB headphones work directly on that port? I have USB OTG cable and some USB sound card somewhere so I can check with regular 3.5mm jack headphones without trouble when I find some time to do it but I just wonder if anyone tried USB headphones on it and what they think of it. Is it worth of a hassle to buy one for NST?
Some USB devices use a multiplexor on the USB micro connector and can send actual analog audio down the connector.
Many Androids support USB host mode and can support an audio USB adapter, including the ones that go for < $10.
The NST (earlier Nooks with OMAP processors) don't have complete software support for USB host mode but can be coerced into working.
The Glows (later Nooks with IMX processor) don't have complete software or hardware support for USB host mode but can be coerced into working.
The Glow4 (7.8") has audio.

[Q] can we use a USB device without dock?

Is it possible to use a usb device without a dock using the usb cord that comes with the tf201?
Nope, but you can get one of these.
Does it have full USB functions (keyboard connectivity and USB storage connectivity) ?
I have that and although I have not connected a keyboard I have gotten it to work wit a ps3 controller and a memmory card reader.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA

[Q] USB hub + OTG + tablet problem

Hi,
i have a Cube U23GT tablet. It supports OTG. The tablet can be charged only trough DC in with an adaptor, so not trough usb port. I have an OTG cable, and if i plug with that a mouse in, or keyboard, it works perfectly. I saw on youtube some videos where people connected mouse and keyboard at the same time to their tablets, for example: youtube.com/watch?v=benblX95ORM
So as i saw this video i thinked: all i need is an USB HUB, i bought one: logilink.eu/showproduct/UA0138.htm?seticlanguage=en
I plugged the HUB in trough OTG and the result was: the LED of the hub lights are on, but then, when i try to plug the mouse OR (not just "AND") the keyboard, it wont work. The infra of the mouse is lights too but the tablet dont detect it, i cant use it.
So can you tell me what can be the problem? Its not a powered HUB i know, but on the videos that i saw (for example what i linked here) arent powered hubs too, and works.
If you can, please help me, thanks!
anybody?

Do you guys chain a micro usb to usb cable to a hub to get this working? Products, tips and info here please. Thanks in advance
Has anyone tried this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BWF5U0M?keywords=USB HUB&qid=1444943911&ref_=sr_1_1&s=pc&sr=1-1

I would like to know that too! Also, how did you test the connection speed on your NP?

Speed checker app. sideload the APK.

I use a basic 4 port USB 3.0 hub also from Sabrent (doesnt have the on/off buttons on it) and pair it with an OTG cable and it works fine. I have a wireless mouse, sixaxis or ds4 controller, and a 64GB flash drive plugged into it.

How to get USBs to work on android

Ok so currently there is something wrong with USB mounting where even through dock it doesn’t show up.
To get this to work do the following:
In play store search up ‘xplore’ and download it.
Open xplore, go into settings and scroll to where it asks if you want to use it’s driver. Tick that and go back. Plug USB in to dock and when it asks if you want to mount it select yes.
Voila!

I believe this is only in regards to usb storage. I downloaded xplore file manager and found the option that op mentioned. When I plugged in my xbox 360 controller wireless adapter nothing new happened, but when I plugged in a flash drive I did get the prompt they mentioned.
Controllers work if you connect via dock and yes it was ‘xplore file manager’
Was there anything else you may have done? Also, which controller were you able to use with this method? I tried connecting my xbox one controller to the dock over usb with this open and nothing popped up on the screen and the controller wasn't working. The controller just vibrated.
Can anyone confirm that the USB to Ethernet adapter works ?

What controllers did you get working? I tried both wired xbox one controller and ps4 controller and they both didn't work.
Kodi and USB drives
Hello all! First post here. ^^
I’m wondering if you guys have been able to use external usb drives with Kodi.
I have used the app “Microsoft exFAT/NTFS for usb by Paragon software” to mount a NTFS drive to the switch. I can use the app “x-plore” to browse my 1TB drive and can play all my songs and media. However I cannot find the drive in the kodi app. I would greatly like to be able to add all my media to the kodi library.
Any suggestions guys?
Thanks
Should also be sure to remove the Switch Game Card. This was not doing anything, then after I removed mine, it worked perfectly. Just don't use the HORI Dock. That damn thing does not work at all.
Quick update: got the USB to Ethernet adaptor working while docked - just download the app called USB Device info and it will activate all USB ports while docked

USB drives worked but not the USB to Ethernet adapter. It took a while to figure it out, so other than that you will need to to enable Ethernet on the OS. I did that through https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706211
I don't have busy box but it seems to have gotten the job done for me
Be careful - it will make ur switch hang - but after reset just delete it and then it will work

I have had success with “Microsoft exFAT/NTFS for usb by Paragon software”. But it isn’t free.. The price will depend on which file format your usb drive is.
Maybe there isn’t an alternative, but this is all I know of now.
i get a message no supported partition was found?
Hey do you know anyways to make it work with dolphin?
breakthru just used stickmount to get a 4tb drive to detect
We still dont have usb controllers working?
Anybody know the directory location for external USB storage? Trying to access my games on redream from external storage and can’t find the right directory (if I’m even in that area of the devices storage).
