Hey XDA users,
Through some playing around in the build.prop, I found a way to achieve two things I was trying to do. I hope some of you guys may find this beneficial as well. So here it is:
All you have to do is this:
(1) Locate your build.prop in /system/build.prop
(2) Open in Text Editor
(3) Locate these lines in build.prop:
ro.product.name
ro.product.device
(4) Rename them to [ jfltetmo ] for T-Mobile and [ jflteatt ] for AT&T
(5) Save these changes and exit
(6) Reboot to save changes
If there are any issues with this tweak, then I will do my best to help. Thank you guys and enjoy. If there any other alternatives to this method, then I will add it here.
UPDATE: Step (4) Rename them to
[ jfltetmo ] or [ jflteatt ]
You may also use kltetmo and klteatt but be sure to not have any mods flashed over this change or you will have a overlay on top of your quick settings icons.
I myself am on T-Mobile and I also tried AT&T, but if you have other carriers than these, then by all means give it a try with your carrier and see if this works for you and post your screenies here so that way others may learn as well

It looks fine until you select it. Once you do, it does not highlight the actual icon itself, but another highlighted icon it superimposes on it.

I then looked at the original values I had written down before editing them and the ro.product.name was jflteuc and the ro.product.device was jflteatt. I tried editing the altered ro.product.name to klteuc to jive with the original format, but still no dice.
Yeah I just took notice to it myself and I will have to edit the name to jfltetmo or jflteatt. These were also able to accomplish the same thing only without the superimposed images. Updating post right now.
Thanks for letting me know

I stand corrected. Your original way was correct, I had another mod for my Quick Settings icons that was interfering with it (this mod to be exact: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665094). When I flashed just an unedited ROM to the phone and renamed both the ro.product.name and the ro.product.device to klteatt it works perfectly.
I actually like this one better tbh, it feels more complete.

When I try to save this it says "Error occurred when trying to save the file. It will not be saved." I am using ES File Explorer and I have an SGH-I337 w/ AT&T & rooted w/ Towel Root.
Nice! I was hoping there was a S5 Rom out for the S4. But I don't see one. I tried this on stock rooted AT&T But no dice. I'm gonna try Downloading a custom Rom and try this again. I think they look much cleaner than the stock icons.

I re-coded the Services.jar in /system/framework for Axura JL5. The clock is originally black, which goes against most themes out there. I figured id post the Services.jar file here for anyone interested. THIS WILL ONLY CHANGE THE TIME CLOCK COLOR TO WHITE (top right hand corner of screen), NOTHING ELSE. This is ideal for people who are trying to theme with a black status bar.

1. Download and extract the Services.jar attached to this post
2a. Use Root Explorer to replace existing Services.jar (/system/framework), then reboot
or
2b. Place new Services.jar in the "Tools" folder in AndroidSDK, then via ADB in the command prompt, type the following commands
adb remount
adb push services.jar /system/framework/
adb shell reboot
3. Once you reboot after either method, it may take a while. Please be patient, it could take up to 5min
4. If it works, and you are satisfied, please smash the "Thanks" button.
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS ONLY CONFIRMED TO WORK FOR AXURA JL5 ON THE VIBRANT, dont bother trying on any other ROMs or devices.
is this the clock for alarm clock or the time clock?
Thanks for this effort, perhaps a screen shot would be more discriptitve.

if you would like it done for another ROM, i could try....no promises though. PS - i only know the codes for white, black, and red
if you do in fact want to me try, keep in mind you have to backup your Services.jar and test the new one yourself....no offense but i dont feel like flashing back and forth between ROMs haha

yeah i had a fun time decyphering all of the services.jar... not as easy as changing all of the xml stuff.
So, any reason why changing this file would cause the phone to go into a reboot loop? That is what happened to mine...

i dont know, no one else has reported this issue......off the top of my head, did you do any of these:
1. Did not unzip the attached file before replacing services.jar
2. try to flash through clockwork?
re-read the instructions in the OP and make you followed them EXACTLY. if you did, then it should work flawlessly. If done right, thsi is not a risky mod.
The file that was unzipped somehow got truncated, so it was corrupt when I copied it over. After I restored and tried again it works.
And, I also added that file to the theme zip I use so when I applied it through clockwork it applied this file as well. Is that something that perhaps should be included in themes? <shrug>

well i dont think there is a single theme out there that has a status timeclock as the same color as the statusbar background (unless its intentional, ive seen those, in order to get rid of the clock)
the only reason i did this was because im very anal about my phone and the way it looks. Axura JL5 is the ROM of my choice, but the way i theme it has a black statusbar, so i had to change the color of the clock so i could see it. The original ROM theme had a grey statusbar, so the clock could be seen. That was the choice of Master (the ROMs developer), and we have to respect his themeing choice.

It's just a theme maker. You can change the statusbar color and design (Sense-looking, Cyanogen, etc.), the volume bars and notifications menu. It's just a quicker way of customizing your phone, without having to modify the framework and everything individually. It's safer and less advanced, but of course, it has its limitations since it cannot theme everything you could by decompiling, and such and such.
Looks like this:

The status bar section doesn't support our phone resolution...

did you try it on the phone? I changed the topbar at the max size and it worked fine...

I can't get it to work I get a (Status 0) error. The workaround they suggest is:
1. Unzip your ROM and find
META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary file
2. Put this file in the UOT zip (overriding UOT's file)
but, I there isn't a update-binary file in the ROM! I go into META-INF/com/google/android and the only file is /update-script. Help me!
EDIT: I got it. I'm an idiot.

Ya i just pulled the two file right out of my phone with file explorer the system-ui.apk and system-framework or whatever it is and followed the directions with amend scripting and it worked great.
^Yeah, I just forgot to switch to amend scripting.
i tried to use it but only got as far as making a settings.uot
anyone that know what they are doing willing to make this a theme for a stock rom?
just remove the txt extension on the end and upload to the UOT Kitchen?
You have to upload your framework-res.apk and systemui.apk then go to summary and click pickup...then it goes to the pickup page and it takes 15-30min for your theme to be made, use that settings file go back go straight to summary tab upload all needed files and cook it then just sit on the pickup page it will auto reload until your theme pops up then download and apply...do you know where to get the apk files you need, i pulled mine straight off my phone with es file explorer. Let me know if you have trouble
Is your phone rooted? what version OS are you running?
So I've used Cyanogenmod and ParanoidAndroid both of which I've noticed includes in their "About Phone" the ROM and then the version number (see picture). I've been searching and searching online and decompiling the ROMs to find it. I'd really like to know how to implement it in my ROM.
Thanks!

That info is in your build.prop file, but If you are just changing say cm's rom, it is still a cm, or paranoid rom and should not be changed. If you are building from source and creating your own rom you would probably already know how to do so. Be careful not to take credit for someone's hard work.
Hope that helps

Ok, I found all the basic parts to put it together, the only thing I'm missing is the title. I created the strings to call the ROM version from the build.prop, created the spot for it to go, I just can't figure out where the titles are hidden.
I believe it's looking for some sort of java, from what I was seeing in the code.

You need to decompile the Settings.apk file and there are some things (smali edits) that you need to be flexible with given how other things in the same method are set up (the edits were made in the onCreate method in DeviceInfoSettings.smali) - so where you place the edits and what variable references you use - and with the xml edits (in /res/xml/device_info_settings.xml) instead of calling an @string/... type reference (which means you need to add a same-named string to strings.xml in /res/values/ as well as a resource id assignment in public.xml in /res/values/) you can just put one in (so something like android:title="Mod version"). The specifics of the smali edits will vary from rom to rom.
Let me now if that helps. lol

I take no responsibility for any harm that may come to your phone trying this.
You must be rooted for this to work
check out the links at the bottom on this post for ninjamorph stuff
****The new image must be the same size as the old image for this to work****
I was able to get the notification changed using ninjamorph and rootexplorer.
1. rename your image stat_notify_email.png
2. Open ninjamorph and start a new project.
3. go to data/app/com.google.android.gm-1.apk
4. When you click it, it should extract the folder.
5. On the next screen click copy it(lower right corner).
It should tell you where the copy was saved. For me it was on my phone storage in androidthemes/workspace
From there i went to rootexplorer( you could also do this part on your computer).
1. open androidthemes/workspace/com.google.android.gm-1.apk/res
2. Locate these file:
drawable-hdpi,
drawable-mdpi,
drawable-sw600dp-hdpi,
drawable-sw600dp-mdpi,
drawable-sw600dp-xhdpi,
drawable-xhdpi
3. This may just be an extra step but i went through each of these files and added .bak to the end of each original image so it looked like this: stat_notify_email.png.bak (this will keep the original as a backup in the folder).
4. Copy/paste the new image named stat_notify_email.png into each of these folders.
If you don't rename the files when you paste you will just replace the original.
5. Once you have placed the image in all the file you will go back to ninjamorph and click finish project.
6. Click the com.google.android.gm-1.apk
7. It will then create package
8. It will ask if you are sure you want to replace the .apk....click yes
9. It will ask if you want to optimize using zipalign...click yes
10. It will ask if you want to clean up/delete project...Click yes or no(up to you)
11. Once it is done, reboot phone and it should have the new notification icon but it will have a dark tint from the notification bar.
I have not done that much with ninjamorph so there probably is a shorter way to do all this.
Here are a couple links to using ninjamorph:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=674604
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...ninjamorph-change-notification-bar-icons.html
Hopefully this works for you.

For users that are not getting the "gallery" option when setting a backround in the "Messages" app, follow instructions below.
With a file manager, create a folder on the root of your virtual sdcard called ".data" the "." is important. (you may need to show hidden files in the settings of the file manager app to be able to creat files with a ".") Inside that folder create another folder called "message"
