I've got a few problems. help - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I have 3 major problem with this phone, I ordered this phone online and I don't think its a US version since I have a bunch of Chinese/Japanese apps...
first problem that really bugs me is that sometimes the signal disconnects randomly and I have to do a manual search (Settings/more/mobile network setting/network operators) to get it to work. I have t mobile all my settings are set to tmobile ... I don't know because its a foreign phone the radios aren't meant to work with us careers or the problem is from something else ...
Second problem is (this only happened to me twice) over the night my battery drains out.
Third problem is sleep of death, after the last update it only happened once but I want to know if anyone else is experiencing this.
over all I think this phone has good quality built but the software optimization is as good as a beta!
Do you have any ideas? Is there any US version or close to US version android system for this phone that I can install without rooting? Something with asian apps

I have this phone since yesterday but I can already tell you, that from what I know, there is no official version for the US market, yet...
I read something about a version comming up for Verizon I think. Anyways, this could explain your network connection problems. I would imagine that Z2 should offer a world wide network support, but perhaps it is not in this case.
The network problems could explain also battery drain. If the signal is bad or the phone keeps searching for network, the battery will die rapidly.
What I can recommend is to try and run the repair phone option from Sony Suite that you install on your pc or mac. It will wipe and reset your phone but also update firmware, if applicable.
If this does not help, then you will either have to return the phone or wait for some US firmware including US modem versions for the phone.

It doesn't have united states and also i don't want to root
Is there a way to flash a legit firmware without root?

No root required to flash using flashtool.

First of all - check did you got Sony Z2 or Chinese copy.
Try to check IMEI with Sony.
Second...
Z2 is quad bend device and it'll work on all continents but if you got Chinese only version (apparently it's a bit bigger, only few mm, I saw that info in screen protectors thread) then you are screwed.
I had many signal problems when I flashed German, UK, Italy....any other firmware except t-mobile fw from my country.
I had same problems, no 4g, signal lost every few minutes and battery drain (device is trying to connect to network but it can't and that's killing battery).
What you can do is (!first check do you have original Z2! - Otherwise you could brick your device)
Download few firmwares and try...
It would be best if you could find Global Generic firmware but I'm not sure there is Global for Z2.
Wipe all!
That's important to get rid of all Chinese apps and letters.
Yes, you'll lose data but who cares...
You need working device, right?
Not device with your data which cannot connect to network...
Test one fw by one and you'll find what's best for your region.
You don't have to root device, just enable develiper menu in settings and enable usb debugging.
Download flashtool (v16) and flash firmware by firmware until you find the best for you.
There's a big chance LTE won't work on those fw...
You'll have to wait for US firmware because of baseband files...
Battery will be OK after that..

try the best which suits you ,if u go for india there are some pre-installed apps which u may like or not
i did not tried any new FIRMWARES ,try countries like uk because english is the standard there
in flash tools uncheck wipe data so your old data will not be lost , but installing fresh firmware with wipe is best

what is sleep of death
if its something like you cannot wake up your phone for example when you recieve a whatsapp message and cannot open screen I have the same ****ty thing

I installed Canada version ... I'm gonna test it for a day

Did u find any background running apps from Canada version this may decrease ur battery
I do try to switch of lte which eats battery
Try to find in Canada firmware for does anybody has the same problem

I have an extremely poor reception in Canada. I bought my Z2 in Hong Kong and it is on 17.1.1.A.0.402. So does flashing to 17.1.A.2.55 fix this reception issue?

Flashing no firmware will fix your reception issue
Infact most of the issues the Z2 has is caused by google due to Z2 running 4.4.2, 4.4.2 has alot of base module issues and they are not present in 4.4.3 or 4.4.4
Reception issues seem to be common globaly, this apears to be 402 firmware, 55 and 69 both have no issues to do with mobile reception, or at least to me i haven't seen any

R1EA029

Hey all, NTT DOCOMO just pushed out OTA R1EA029 to my Xperia...still Android 1.6 however. I was not able to go through and notice any differences, however it does appear to break root. Since it broke root and I don't have a second phone to take pictures I have no photographic proof as of now. If desired, I will attempt to dump and upload for the community.
Thanks.
You can try to root again using the root exploit APK, hopefully its still work with the new firmware.
The best thing to do with new firmware i think is download the Benchmark app, then we compare to latest firmware benchmark point. If its significantly higher, then people might get moved to use it then you dump the ROM without wasting effort.
But if its roughly the same, i think most of us will wait. its 20 days more for Android 2.1 Update from SE
You mean R2EA029 or R1EA029? if it is R1, it is obviously an old version.
It is R1...so old news then
Sent from my SO-01B using XDA App
Actually not quite that much 'old news' as R1...029 seems to be the highest any R1 has ever gone. So, wouldn't count it out that easily.
guy2545, may I ask whether SP-Mode applications are coming with that update or anything else?
I have mine on generic R2...26 but I'd be interested in whether or not the SP mode is coming with this update (as it fits with the SP-Mode-comes-in-September announcement)
I don't think they changed much. I think the only thing they really did was add support for SP mode, other than that I haven't noticed any real differences.
What is SP mode?
Thanks, zporkz. I hope SP mode will run on non-Docomo firmware, too... woud hate to have to go back and flash the ol' docomo one.
@JamesBarnes:
It's something Japan-specific... it's basically http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-mode for smartphones.
Yeah I'm going to have to go with zporkz on this. I have only noticed a few more icons on my launcher, but haven't messed with them much.

Well its more of having an app to do @docomo.ne.jp emails and being able to do deco mail etc... I'm currently using imode.net (same ¥300yen charge) with imoni app, so I don't see the point in changing, since imode.net also works with any browser. You have to change your 3G AP to the new one as well.
Nor is it going to give you an i-mode browser. Was just at an izakaya just now and their coupon offer doesn't work with smart phone, meh.... so a regular keitai is still handy for some services.
Firmware info is here:
http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/support/utilization/software_update/version_up/so01b/android1_6/0830.html
1. SP Mode APN added.
2. POBox touch 3.0 IME added.
3. Back up and Restore application added.
4. Mediascape updated to allow deletion of cover art.

Hmmm I'm running build r2bao26 on my x10i, so should i upgrade? I'm rooted if that matters. Looking at that list seems like i'm out dated. I did get this phone from att so it came with their build but it seems to be working so i never did the next step to change to x10a. Should I convert to x10a? It is recommended for my phone model but i dont see a point. I still get 3g service on att and edge on tmobile
i heard it's an update to support foma mail or something.
For anyone curious how SP mode works, you just set your APN to the spmode settings. Then you download an app for sp mode. It looks like SP mode gives you push email.
Also, when I signed up, it was free for 6 months.

[FIXED] Help With Reception on Galaxy S2 i9100-T (TELSTRA AU VERSION)

Guys i have a Telstra Galaxy S II and when you put a optus simcard the 3G reception is very poor.
I have seen this thread with the same issue: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1753318 but no solution?
iPhone 4 gets 4 full 3G bars where the Galaxy cant even maintain 1 bar...
However if you put a Telstra or Vodafone sim it works like a charm..
Please help
So far I have tried flashing different modems and firmwares from xda and still the issue can not be fixed :'(
- Today I got my mate to bring his phone (Galaxy S2 Optus version) and he has the optus version and works like a charm with 4 bars of 3G ....
I don't want to sell this so early
Remarks:
Optus works on 900/2100mhz
Telstra works on 850/2100mhz
Voda works on 850/900/2100mhz
I'm having a similar issue -- just got a I9100T (Telstra branded), and put in an Optus carrier SIM; data speeds are awful.

Sounds great... Care to share?
Put your phone into Download mode by:
Download this modem: http://www.multiupload.com/TWC0R29SEQ
1) Powering down the device.
2) Then you will power up the device like this by: pressing and holding the volume down key + home key + power key until you see the Galaxy Logo ( if you press for too long the device might power down again lol).
3) Enter the download mode by single pressing the Volume Up key.
4) Get Odin3 v1.85 ( from http://www.mediafire.com/?txgeoaik38pr7cq ) and open the program.
5) DO NOT TOUCH OR USE THIS PROGRAM UNLESS YOU DO AS I SAY OR RISK KILLING YOUR DEVICE
5) Click on the "phone" button and choose the download modem.bin file from where ever you have downloaded.
6) Press start and let the program flash the modem.bin file, the phone will restart and you will have full 3G.
If you found this helpful please use the thanks button.

Thanks very much.
Do I have to flash anything else along with the modem.bin file? Is those instructions assuming that the the ROM is already flashed with something else? (Which ROM are you using?)
When I compared the MD5 for this, I see this is the modem.bin for Vodafone's stock firmware (I9100TDUKF4), not the stock Telstra firmware (I9100TDVKF2). But it's working well for you?
You dont have to flash nothing else apart from the modem file...
The modem will work with any aus stock firmware
I have tried well over 8+ modems and the one uploaded above is the only one that works with 9100T on non 850mhz bands

Hey guys,
I've got an SGS2 i9100T on Vodadone and after flashing different firmwares and custom roms etc, I can't seem to get good reception on the phone anymore.
I've tried literally everything, you name it, I've done it.
- different modems (yes, I've tried the i9100TDUKF4)
- MMI code to change open bands
- flashing back to complete stock Vodafone firmware
I don't know what do anymore, I'm considering selling the phone and buying a generic
i9100 without the damn 'T' at the end of it lol. 'Least then I can use new firmwares and modems without the terrible reception.
Any help is much appreciated, thanks,

Hey, Thanks heaps for that...
I'll try this one too..
I DL'd the whole I9100T Voda firmware to get it this morning..
First 30 Mins were good.... Didn't last long tho....
I am going to sell this phone to a guy with a Telstra Prepaid sim...
As least it will useable for him...
So much for beleiving there is no difference tween a 9100 and a 9100T..
Its just sourcing another 9100 for the same dough that will be the problem.
Anyone in brisbane with a USB Jiggy to reset my counter.....
Currently at 51..... 9100T are poo for optus/optusresellers...
I am in the opposite boat to you guys. I have a generic i9100 running on Telstra-.I have tried every modem, different roms, putting the Telstra stock i9100t firmware on (which worked flawlessly, but no change in signal strength) and still the same average reception.
I'm not concerned about data, but I get call drops and breaking up in half of my house-.I hear them perfectly, but the other party hears me breaking up or can't hear me at all....
I am strongly considering trading for an iphone 4, or something with better signal strength....(I have seen iphones work in my house fine).
Are any of you guys in sydney? It would be great to check if an i9100t actually has something different in the hardware to improve reception on their network...maybe we could trade.
I love this phone, but ths issue is proving more than annoying.... It works fine with an htc desire, and my old defy.
I am in the inner west of sydney, pm me if you want to look at testing our different hardware out.
Thank YOU!!!
WOW Thank you sooooo much!!!!
This has been a problem for SOOO long!
Now it's not
Tried DUKF4, KI3, still bad signal.................
I'm with voda, in North shore...

[Q] Docomo SC-05D

I currently have a Docomo (Japan) SC-05D which is a Docomo branded Galaxy Note, I have rooted the phone but i'm wondering if anyone knows of any roms or kernels that will work on my phone. Usually I wouldnt have a problem with this, but I do not have the stock Odin file to return it to stock if I should brick it. Anybody?

I doubt anything in the N7000 forum would work for it, given that it uses a different CPU (based on what I can make out from the link below). It seems closer to the i717 Note, but not quite.
http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/product/next/sc05d/spec.html
It uses the same GPU as i717, but unfortunately the CPU is different:
SC-05D Note uses APQ8060 CPU with Adreno 220.
i717 Note uses MSM8660 CPU with Adreno 220.
So i guess you'd have to ask developers if any custom ROM would work on your device if you simply swapped the kernel with the the one supporting your cpu. Since it uses Adreno GPU which already is supported with i717 custom ROMs i guess it might be possible.
Well I have a kernel for the phone so I'm hoping this will work.
hi, i just got my docomo sc 05d, unlock, on softbank. so do you have any information on which rom that this galaxy note can use?
i found this website (in japanese) providing link for downloading stock rom. there might be other information out there for custom rom, but my japanese is not that good. i have a feeling that the custom roms do not support tv and LTE.
thanks
edit: i kinda softbricked mine just now when i try to tweak the build.prop. anway, for sure, the stock rom from the above link does work. flash it back to stock using odin with the tar file (inside the zip).. back to life, unrooted kinda do some more browsing and i think docomo galaxy note is more similar to the korean version rather than the at&t.

Just go to DoCoMo shop with your phone, photo ID (for my case Alien Card) and 3150 yen and say you want to unlock. They will unlock without any question.
You don't need to be DoCoMo customer. I am using softbank without any problem.1 seg is working.
---------- Post added at 11:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:22 PM ----------
DoCoMo version is very similar to Korean version. I tried to flash Korean ICS (http://pspmaster.tistory.com/179) ROM via Odin. At the last moment of flashing, it was failed. I restarted the phone and it booted successfully with ICS, network and GPS was OK. But there were some application failed to start. After I restart the phone again, I got SIM card error and my SIM card was not detected. So I flashed DoCoMo stock ROM from http://www.sammobile.com/ via Odin and my phone now back to original state except one flash count.
I noticed that size of Korean ICS ROM is biggar than DoCoMo stock ROM and that might be the reason for the failed flash.
One thing I am sure that little modification of Korean ROM should work with this phone.

i didnt even go anywhere near docomo counter to get this phone i got it at amazon.co.jp. around 38,000 (probably cheaper now), already unlocked.
i no longer use it though. i really really really really want the ics update, so i bought n7000 and gave the sc05d to my gf. the n7000 will cost you around 43,000. you can update n7000 to stock ics. i love it with the new premium suite app. no 1seg is ok for me, coz my japanese is not that good

Yeah......
The first root method they created themselves +1 to their flash counter, and 2 units(1 clean and 1 target)needed, as there nobody in Japan knows to use the CheckFus,which can pulls the stock ROM pack from Kies Server......
And then, there are someone from other country(sure that not from Japan),
puts the stock ROM up,and tolds the SHV-E160S tegrak kernel can done the work without +1,but until now most of the blog sites still have the old method left.

You can root your phone by following Korean version root procedure as here http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...-galaxy-note-lteshv-e160s-shv-e160kshv-e160l/
After rooting, uninstall/freeze some unnecessary system application those always runs in memory by Titanium backup or any other root uninstaller software. That will make your phone little faster.
I am also looking for faster rom but seems there is no rom yet.
Official ICS update for much older SC-02C (galaxy S II) has been released. Is there any news for SC-05D?
Even there is Jelly Bean update for Nexus and our newer phone is still 2 version lower
Regarding the update: http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/info/notice/page/120702_00_m.html
・Disney Mobile on docomo F-08D
・Disney Mobile on docomo P-05D
・GALAXY Note SC-05D
will start getting updates about August.
・「F-12C」
・「XperiaTM PLAY SO-01D」
・「XperiaTM ray SO-03C」
・「XperiaTM acro SO-02C」
・「XperiaTM arc SO-01C」
may get updates, but docomo seems to be saying the lack of RAM is making it a challenge for them to get acceptable performance with ICS on these phones:
"■AndroidTM4.0へのバージョンアップ検討中の製品について
 以下の製品については、AndroidTM4.0へのバージョンアップの際、メモリ不足となる場合があり、その際十分な性能が確保できない可能性があるため、AndroidTM4.0 へのバージョンアップは見送らせていただきます"
Those phones all have 512MB of RAM.

More about the SC-05D (and perhaps other docomo phones) you might find interesting:
I disabled LTE on my Galaxy Note (SC-05D) yesterday using Samsung's service mode ( *#*#2263#*#* specifically. Google it for more info...) While I do not yet see any longer battery life or cooler running temperature, this change did finally fix a long-standing problem.
Since I got the Galaxy Note over a month ago, I have been unable to access the net while on the train between Yokohama and Totsuka. My phone cannot send email or browse the web in that area pretty much everytime any time of the day.
Until today.
Today I could browse and do everything just like normal. There were no apparent network problems whereas before there was nothing but problems. Apparently disabling LTE resolved the problem.
I had gone to the docomo shop a few days ago because my battery had been drained to zero, so low that the phone could not reboot even with a powered USB cable connected. Maybe the phone requires more current than USB delivers, so it needs the battery for a boot, but mine was too low, I guess.
Anyway, the phone kept cycling through incomplete boots, sometimes mentioning the battery was too low before the full UI was fully loaded, then rebooting again. Eventually it would only buzz every five seconds or so. There was no other response to attempting a power on with the battery in and USB connected. Coincidentally, when I took my phone in and showed it to the staff at the local docomo shop, it began a normal boot (or a normal charge cycle while off . . .) I used that opportunity to ask a lot of questions and make suggestions and requests.
So today I went in again to tell them that I had fixed the one network problem. I did get patched through to a knowledgeable support person, and she tried to understand everything precisely, apologized for the problem, and said she would pass on the info. I asked her when the first service update would be on the phone figuring that would probably solve some problems -- and I asked about the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade -- again. And this time I got a different answer than the usual non-committance.
On July 2, docomo will issue a press release that may address when the Galaxy Note will get its upgrade. It might happen soon after that, maybe even the next day. So, we Galaxy Note users should check the docomo site on July 2nd. If there is nothing about the Galaxy Note in the press release, a lot of us calling and asking about the update for our malfunctioning phones will have a magnified impact.
Regarding the specific problems with the phone:
- the battery drains fast (perhaps little can be done about this...)
- the phone gets hot enough for the camera to be disabled. Something should be able to be done about this. I can't imagine the Note's current temperature sensitivity is set correctly. For example, today I was typing messages in a restaurant for lunch for about 15 minutes. My phone got up to 42 degrees (I checked later using "Battery Mix"), and I tried to take a photo of my curry set using "Evernote Food", but the camera app said the phone was too hot and refused to run.
- The phone about once a week will lose the network connection and nothing short of a reboot will find it again. This sometimes happens after the phone being in WiFi mode all night and then going out into a 3G area the next morning. Toggling airplane mode does not catch the network.
- The aforementioned cellular black hole between Yokohama and Totsuka when in normal, LTE/automatic mode.
These problems aren't just with me. Searching for related keywords 電池 熱い 弱い すぐ カメラ "SC-05D" will show other people complaining about the same things. I do wonder if the other national and international versions suffer the same fate . . . The LTE chip/ROM is particular to Japan, so I hope Samsung and docomo just couldn't get the best settings for the new configuration before release of the SC-05D but will soon.
Other than these problems, I love the phone. The big size is not causing me much trouble, but it comes in very handy for typing with a decent sized keyboard in landscape mode -- and for eBooks, games, showing photos/videos to others, etc.
This is only for the brave. I take no responsibility if it renders your phone into an expensive brick. As I only have one SC-05D, what I have achieved may not necessarily to the case for you. Still interested? read on.
If you want to test performance of ICS 4.0.3 in SC-05D before the release of official Docomo rom, you can Odin flash SHV-E160K-UF13 (ICS rom for the korean LTE note). Rom can be found at Tegrak's website (http://pspmaster.tistory.com/181; google translate is your friend; I only tried E160K, though roms for E160S and/or E160L may work). Odin will say the flash is an utter failure, showing the big, red, ugly icon and halt progress there. Surprisingly, the phone will boot. Unplug your device, long press power button to force power off, then power on. You'll now be greeted eventually by a new screen with korean letters. Click on the white "arrow" will bring up the language selection section, which now gives us a lot more languages to choose.
One major problem I encountered with this rom is its inability to get onto mobile network. All UK sims I tried (O2, Vodafone, Orange PAYG) failed to hook onto the network. I had some success with one sims I got from my travel in Hong Kong, but reception is unreliable and the phone will drop carrier frequently. As a phone, it's useless. A minor issue I have is this rom is littered with bloatwares. I haven't tried tegrak's kernel for rooting the ICS rom (found on the same website for ICS rom), but, if it works, presumably they can be frozen by TB.
That's that. Everything else works, if not better. Scroll performance is snappier (not buttery smooth, of course), apps load reasonably fast. Occasionally it becomes laggy when switching between apps (or switching on camera), which is not so great, but overall it seems faster. Consumption of battery power is more or less the same as before (when running GB). NFC and Android beam also work, though the apps for handling NFC is purely in Korean. It also boot up must quicker than when it was on GB.
Try at your own risk, don't say I haven't warned you.

Thanks for your post. I tried same ROM some days ago and same thing happened as you. At first boot, the network was ok, but after reboot, my SIM was not detected. That was my primary phone, so I could not afford to use that without network. So I flashed with DoCoMo stock ROM and everything became normal.
GT-N7000 vs. SC-05D Performance
Good bye SC-05D and welcome Gt-N7000. I sold my SC-05D because of the lack of update and slow performance and bought GT-N7000. To justify my exchange, I made a comparison with AnTuTu benchmark and the summery is:
GT-N7000 vs. SC-05D
Total: 3927 vs. 3347
CPU: 6536 vs. 6054;
Memory: 3749 vs. 2973;
I/O: 7025 vs. 5632;
2D: 280 vs. 501;
3D: 2043 vs. 1573.
Except 2D rating, SC-05D is worse in every other category. SC-05D is running on stock Ginger Bread and GT-N7000 is running on stock ICS.

[Q] Problem with headphone jack

I have an issue with the headphone jack. I use third party headphones (I dont have the stock Sony ones) and when I plug them in, the sound comes out of the phone's external speaker most of the time. I get the symbol in the status bar to say 'Headset connected'. Sometimes the sound DOES come out of the headphones but seemingly randomly! Tried different headphones and applications on the phone. I have used Sony's Update Service software to download and reinstall the latest ROM but this has not fixed the problem.. My Ultra is on 4.4.2, buildd number: 14.3.A.0.757
Anyone had this issue?
Thanks!
I didnt have this issue by my c6802 and a stock headphone with rom version as you have, before i heared some peaple had this problem with other version(lower build number,i think) maybe this is of your nonstock headphone. Why didnt update to newer 14.4.a.0.108? Maybe it disapear againe.

if you feel comfortable you could flash a generic FTF so you are on the latest 4.4.4 (xxxx.108) firmware from sony. You dont have to be rooted to do this.

Yes I could do that but only worth it really if it actuall resolves the problem. I had a Z ultra last year and that one didn't have this issue. I think I will give that 4.4.4 a go this weekend - do you know if it would affect warranty at all?
Thanks

It might, depending on the service centre.
Have a search about speaker/headset issues, I think it only affected 4.4.2 and that was updated quite quick and resolved the issue for most people that had the problem

This might be a stupid question, but have you tried other headphones?
I have used 3 types of Beats (Solo HD, PRO, UrBeats) as well as the original ones, never had any problem.

believe me it has for almost all users (the ones that haven't fixed the issue probably have a user error). there would still be outcry on here if it hadn't
Yes i have some apple earpods which work some of the time and some Astro A30s which dont work at all.

happened to me after having xzu for 3 or so months - I got a new warranty replacement (had a 6802, received a new 6833 ftw)
This happened once last week when I plugged the stock earplugs in when I also received a message, and it played the audio through the external speakers. I unplugged it and plugged it again, and it was back to normal. Probably a glitch in the matrix.
I have a C6833 and this problem started a few months back with my device.
Now it happens about every time I pause the music. When I hit play or resume the audio is coming from the internal speaker so I have to unplug the cable and plug it back in and that solves the problem at least for the moment. Some days my device does what it suppose to do just great. And other periods it just sends the stream back to the internal speaker all the time whenever I pause the music.
I have flashed the latest .108 but problem still exists. It might be some error with the hardware what do I know. For now I won't take the time to send it in for service. Perhaps I will send it to repair right before my warranty expires just to make some use of it
I use the stock headphones, and some Apple just some generic Apple earphones that you receive in the box when you buy an Iphone 5 or later
I have the sbh52 and the headphones that came with that work perfectly so far. Apple earpods work some of the time and Astro A30s dont work at all. Whuch makes me think its software.

How to switch my phone to USA native

I imported from the UK. I was able to change certain things but my Google maps voice is still in UK and some websites open their UK site
Sent from my E5823 using Tapatalk
I think itll change if you flasht US customized unbranded which you can find on XperiFirm (i havent checked but should be there) and flash it with Flashtool.
Z5 compact hasn't been released or even announced for the United States. According to XperiFirm there is no US firmware.
Then bummers, hell have to wait untill officiall one is released to be able to flash it
try Sony installer , see if it finds it, it worked for me
I have the Z5 Compact on its way to me. Plan on flashing the Customized CE1 firmware on it as soon as I get it. I'll update with results once I get it. Google Play should still be registered to the US and pick up on the maps and all from that.
Yeah her voice is just British for turn by turn
Sent from my E5823 using Tapatalk
Very strange. I have the Taiwan version of the phone, and when I set it to English (American) during setup, my turn by turn was in American English. I later flashed the phone to an Austrian firmware, and everything is still American English. Also, I'm a little confused how the OP is seeing UK websites. How would that have anything to do with the type of firmware he has on his phone? Shouldn't browsers recognize his location by his IP?
I am having a problem with the stock weather app. It is in Celsius but I need it to be in Fahrenheit. There are no settings inside the app so how can that be changed?

I had the exact same problem with the Taiwan version of the phone. Its craziness to me that there isn't a place to convert temperature scales. Such a basic feature. I ended up just downloading the Yahoo weather app, which does the job well enough in whatever scale I want.
I also imported and am deeply confused as to why so many of you seem to be having issues... When you first get the phone during the initial setup they ask what region you are in; all you had to do was choose United States...

I don't think that did anything for me with the native weather app (did't change it from Celsius to Fahrenheit). All it did was insure that my date and time was accurate. Is the native weather app on your device in Fahrenheit?
I did get my Z5 Compact and the very first thing I did was to install the Customized Central Europe 1 firmware using FlashTool and XperiFirm. I also checked off on all the wipe options when I flashed the firmware. Upon boot I picked English (United States) and everything I use has been native to the US. The stock Weather app is garbage and I see no way to adjust any settings with it either. Hopefully they can fix that in a future update. My calendar however still displays the temp in F which is really nice. I use the Weather Channel app for weather anyway so its no big deal.
I think I'd want to keep my firmware as UK because they get Marshmallow first
. Just use a different weather widget.
Oh I remember the stock one IS kinda cool though with the animation. Oh well

If you don't mind me asking where did you hear that UK is getting Marshmallow first? The UK firmware did not even get the 32.0.A.5.32 update while the others did.

It is not set in stone but suggested through several articles that I've read. This is the first I heard although of an exclusion of the firmware update. Is this true that the UK model was the only one excluded? This makes no sense

It wasn't the only one excluded but it did not receive that update. Granted it did the latest 32.0.A.6.152 update at the same time as everyone else, so who really knows. But if you take a look at the Z5 Premium right now on XperiFirm, the Customized UK version is 32.0.A.6.115 while the Customized CE1 version is 32.0.A.6.170.
So in my very limited sample size and recent experience with these Sony firmwares, it seems like the UK gets the big updates along with everyone else (not first), while other regions such as CE1 gets the incremental updates.
If anyone with more experience wants to chime in, I am more than happy to be corrected.
I switched my wife's Z5C voice to English US. I don't remember where but it exists.
I just got mine (from HK). After activating it in the US, I immediately got the message that a firmware update was available. Try going to the regional settings. You can change the voice as well. Mine was changed automagically.
Try changing the DNS settings in the phone to use a US provider? The *might* help, but it's just a guess.
