Samsung GS2 - assistance needed - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, following are the details:
Model # - SGH-I727
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: I727UCMC1
Kernel Version: 3.0.31-844945
The phone was bought last year (February) and is still under contract but out of warranty. 3 days back, it started showing "no sim error" without any apparent physical damage. Here are the steps I took to resolve the issue:
1. Restarted the phone
2. Removed the battery and the SIM and then restarted the phone
3. Shut down the phone for over an hour and did a restart
4. AT&T replaced the SIM
5. Did a factory reset and data wipe (after pressing the volume button + power in shutdown state)
None of the above helped and I am kind of losing hope. The phone is out of warranty and is not eligible for upgrade yet. So, before I shell out $$$ to buy a new phone , I wanted to come to you and see if there's anything else I can do?
I have heard that rooting might help? If yes, can you please show me how - I am not that technically inclined but I can follow steps pretty well and cohesively. If rooting fixes the issue will AT&T cause troubles (like block the SIM, etc.).
Eagerly awaiting some suggestion/advice.
Many thanks.

I think firstly check your sim card after that same issue then there might be hardware problem which can't be resolved even after rooting

since ver 4.0.4 has some issues, would suggest u to rewert back to stock 4.0.3 and then see if the issue persists, if its not there then stay with v4.0.3 untill a stable v4.0.4 is released
ps- do not make any wipes in recovery, or backup ur phone with the same with v4.0.4 since the same can potentially brick ur phone
SIM is not dead. turn out to be a phone issue. not resolved yet but find it very strange how it can go from non-lock to locked with network control key prompt.
used GSII repair from the market, it resolved the issue but now the phone is unable to turn on any security pattern prompt for instance, and it has a weird box logo right on the home screen.
anyone had this problem before?
Yes I've suddenly had this issue, but found the app 'Galaxy_S Unlock' on the market which quickly resolved my phone being locked.
But the problem persists as it randomly locks itself again, and I have to use this app again, bit of a pain as this is a work phone, but luckily it still unlocks with this app.
Looking for a permanent solution, anyone have any ideas what the real issue is here, and yes I'm using v4.o4 firmware on my phone.
My SII just got the OTA update to 4.04 this morning and is now doing the same thing, my carrier is pretty indifferent as its unlocked so I'm trying to get help out of Samsung. Mostly adding my 2c to give the topic a bump
Same trouble here after a flash to Resurrection v3.0.5, prompt of Enter Network Unlock Control Key.
Tried the unlock apps from the market and no go, tried flashing a few other Roms, restored a few nandroid backups, factory resets and still nothing. Put the SIM into my backup phone to test and no problems with that.
Strange when accessing the menu at *#7465625# the network locks were listed as off.
What did work for me was to flash back to the original stock Rom that came with the phone (KG2 Bell). After the reboot there was still no signal so I entered stock recovery and did a factory reset, cleared cache partition/dalvik cache, fix permisions and reboot.
After that all has been working good and was able to flash back to my nandroid backup.
I just packed it off to Samsung, they didn't admit fault but the phone is out of warranty but they are fixing it free of charge. Smells like victory..

[Q] Unknown Baseband, No Signal, No IMEI - Help!!!

Hey all,
So I've ran into a snag on my XT910 over the past few days.
Randomly, the device just dropped signal one evening and it never recovered it. Having troubleshooted with my network (O2 UK) and trying other SIM cards in the device, I have narrowed it down to the "Unknown baseband" or "No IMEI" symptoms found on these forums.. The device downright refuses to read (or even acknowledge the existance of) any SIM cards at all. It doesn't prompt for one to be inserted; it just says "No Service" where my network name should be, with an antenna and red "x" where the signal bars should be. Trying a working micro SIM from my girlfriends phone yields the same result. It doesn't even know it is in there.. In "About phone" it says Unknown baseband and dialing *#06# from my device gives a blank IMEI. Adding/viewing contacts on the SIM returns an error. I went so far as to get a brand new SIM from my network - still no dice.
The device is less than a month old and still under Moto warranty. However, the company I bought it from have neglected to provide a VAT receipt and I'm having trouble getting it off them. Moto have agreed to repair/replace the phone, but on the condition I have this receipt and send a copy of it to them. I really need this phone working, as it's the lifeline to my work, so I am willing to try reflashing/rooting the device ROM or radio as need be.
After some reading I have followed QPST guides to re-input the IMEI on my device, however it still exists and is correct. I have hard reset the phone, booted into recovery and wiped cache/data but no change.. I am considering the method of re-flashing the official OTA update for ICS, as I've read many users have this issue after upgrading, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849744 - that is the correct ROM for my phone, but as I am already on that ROM I do not know whether flashing it on top will break things - ultimately brick it?
The device was (and still is) on 672.180.41.XT910.Retail.en.EU. I have not flashed any custom ROMs or rooted it. I have made no software or firmware changes to the device.
Please can someone help?! I do not mind getting my hands dirty and even voiding the Moto warranty if it fixes it (I would also be prepared to root it) but I am at a loss here - all pointers go to hardware fault and if that is indeed what it is, I would prefer somebody back up my assumption so I can send it to Moto knowing there was nothing I can do, rather than being a simple ROM flash away from having my device back..
Your phone may be damaged either physically (e.g. broken contacts SIM card slot) or software-wise (e.g. damaged PDS partition).
I'd go for a reflash, though - at least when properly executed it won't worsen your phone's condition. First, get full 672.180.41.XT910.Retail.en.EU flash file. Then, flash it using RSD Lite.

Thank you so much for this.
If it doesn't work by reflashing, can I still send it to Motorola under warranty for a hardware fix?

Hey,
I've just reflashed with RSD and I still get "Unknown baseband version" and no IMEI on the device. I guess it must be a hardware fault somewhere along the line.. Thank you regardless - and if you have any further suggestions then please do let me know.
try changing baseband. who knows...
china baseband is perfect for EU

install baseband via custom recovery. they are flasheable zip
Firstly, thank you to all who replied to or considered my plea.
Secondly, after extensive research and some testing on my part I have found this is a seemingly irresolvable hardware (or very heavily damaged software) problem. Through various threads online I have read about people getting this mostly after they upgrade their Razr to ICS. It doesn't seem to be limited to one specific baseband/regional version of the device, as customers on Verizon in the States have had the same issue I have in the UK with a SIM-free phone.
I have sent the device off to Motorola for repair/replacement. I will report back when I get the device back.

Samsung G355H Not registered on network after crashed update

Hello everyone, I'm a desperate noobie here trying to fix this issue for three days now.
So as stated above I have a Samsung Core Duo (SM-G335H) and three days ago I connected trough SmartSwitch and it offered to update my phone. I agreed and during the middle/second half of it my laptop and phone just crashed. I revived both and SmartSwitch told me about the update failure and I made an Emergency Recovery. After that recovery, at first, everything seemed to be working normally, but on the next day I noticed: "Not registered on network " error. It recognizes the SIM card, but when you try to find a network it says "Can't connect. Try later." and so on. I can't call, other peeps can't call me.
I have been researching this matter for days now and am very upset about this. Some say stuff like Odin/flashing/third party tools/settings, I don't know what to do, as I don't have much experience with those things.
Btw, my IMEI is not null, it is being displayed (so I guess the EPF folder is not damaged). The APN settings (I'm on T-mobile) are still there, I don't know what to fix about them.
I am running 4.4.2 KitKat and my Security Patch Level is dated 2016 if that is of any relevance...
I also did a hard reset: nothing. SIM card works in my other phone, so it's not damaged. I just now saw that the end symbols in my Baseband version and my Build number don't match. Could that be it? I've seen people recommending updating manually/flashing with a modem file. How do I go about this?
Also: my phone is rooted. Only that I very clumsily attempted it months ago and before this matter here I would have problems with binary updates and what not, "phone is not rooted completely", I already fixed that issue though, it has SuperSu on it.
Anyway, I may have messed up somewhere along the way leading to this problem.
Please don't recommend me reseting/rebooting the phone again or just re-inserting the SIM card, that doesn't fix it.
I welcome any other suggestions, I hope somebody can help me.

Prevent initial reset after SIM insertion (CSC change)

Hi there!
Im happy about my new S9+ (international DUOS variant available in germany), im just about to set everything up. Now, to keep my old phone as long as possible, i have not inserted my german T-Mobile SIM yet but already customized a lot on my S9+.
Now i've read here at XDA that the first time you insert a SIM into the device it will trigger a reset, no matter what you do and all my setup and customisation work will be lost for good...
Is there any way to prevent this hard reset?
I read about this method for a Samsung J3 smartphone:
1. Ensure you have set a PIN on the phone.
2. Shut it down, remove battery, insert SIM.
3. Start it up, wait till it gets to the initial lock screen. Do not enter the PIN.
4. Force the phone to shut down again..
5. Power it up again. After entering the PIN, the SIM should be detected and join the cell network, with no "security" reboot and factory wipe.
Can anyone confirm this?
Otherwise i would use the Samsung Cloud Backup to restore my settings later, hopefully this samsung backup is working...
Any other ideas? Thank you!
Ok people, i have tried the procedure i have mentioned above and my phone did not reset itself. It was the first time i have inserted a SIM, so this may actually work. But remember, i dont have a SIM-locked or branded phone, maybe those behave different.
On the other hand i cannot confirm that it would have done this reset in the first place if i just put in the SIM.
So i can only tell you to try out this method, it wont hurt your phone. And if it works it will save you a lot of time.

Samsung S7 Edge: A brick or a solution?

I purchased a 2nd hand Galaxy S7 Edge from someone on Facebook Marketplace. It's a dual sim model (which is not directly available in South Africa) - When I collected the phone the old owner manually removed apps which I found to be strange as I was planning on doing a factory reset anyways, but he said I first had to update the phone before I can do a reset. Once I got back home and put the phone of WIFI > Software update I got a message saying that the software was not verified (leaning towards the phone being rooted). I also saw that he had multiple copies of Whatsapp which I knew was not possible with a normal ROM.
Not wanting to constantly see his personal info, I decided to reinstall the base S7 Edge software I found sammobile.com - Using odin this worked and I was able to reset the phone, but now there is no network coverage at all. I have tried everything, even downloaded a different version (both XDA and XDE) but no luck. I took it to a cellphone shop and they say they think the moterhboard is faulty which I doubt, when I got the phone and put in my simcard the first time around there was no network issue at all, this only started once I reinstalled the original rom from Samsung.
My understanding now is that the phone was likely purchased in UAE or Dubai and the network was unlocked (not sure how this works) - When I reinstalled the default samsung rom the network lock is back and I can now not use the mobile device with my local provider.
What options do I have? Is there another rom (even if it's not samsung, happy with anything) I can use on the device? I presume they had a different rom installed anyways to get it working in the first place, but I was stupid and never made a backup of the rom so now the phone is nothing more than a wifi device.
Any assistane would greatly be appreciated!
