Hi,
Check out these phones:

http://www.dx.com/p/h9008-android-4...am-2gb-and-rom-16gb-black-319039#.U6ZXcfldV5I
These devices are great, but all their software sucks. Are any developers focused on making custom ROMs for these phones?
I'd like any one of these 5.0 to 5.7 inch phones, but with AOSP cyanogenmod-esque software on it.
Any info?

Hi
I'm a software developer but I'm new to smartphones and Android. I'm thinking of buying a Touch Pro 2 because of its nice keyboard, good resolution and cheap price etc. As far as I can see it's going to do everything I want with Windows Mobile 6.5 but I'm thinking of trying out Android on it just to see what Android is like.
Is it possible for the TP2 to run the latest Android 4.x release or is it limited to the Android 2.3 Gingerbread series?
Does Android 2.3 have any significant advantages or disadvantages over using WM6.5 and the pre-installed Touch Pro 2 software from HTC?
Do smartphones have a "standardised" bios just like a desktop PC, allowing Android to run on any hardware?
TIA

It may be possible, but no one has built a 4.x rom for the TP2.
I think that the software options are much better for the Android 2.3. Bluetooth has issues compared to WM. Would love to find a dev to work with to improve it.
Android is very modular driven. You have to change out the drivers, and kernel type based upon the CPU. It ports between similar hardware somewhat easily. From a dev standpoint it is not really fair to compare phones to PCs in my book.
For $50-$70 you can get a decent used one on Ebay.
*Edit*
Seems I forgot about this project for ICS. Unfortunately it looks like it has been abandoned.
Since long I have been a great fan of xda and custom roms and open source ideology. When i started looking up xda back in 2010, i was convinced that this is the place where i can find latest development for my device (at that time samsung galaxy i5801).
But today when i look at things, i don't think the same. I see the latest and the greatest rom developer here, officially supporting only nexus devices or other flagship devices. The unofficial ports are never perfect.
I dont understand the point. Nexus devices already get the latest rom by google. Most flagship also get the same from their OEM. Shouldn't the developers focus on providing the latest updates to the devices which have been forgotten by there manufacturers??
Take for example,
1- galaxy i5801 was updated till android 2.2 by samsung. Xda couldn't provide a single fully functional android 2.3 rom (marcellusbe cm 7.2 alpha9 has battery issues, -- just saying before anybody points out)
2- Micromax is the second largest android phone seller in india. But not even a single of its devices is officially supported by cyanogenmod, paranoid android, aokp, or omni etc.
I mean if you can officially support companies like micromax, you can get much more donations for development because micromax doesnt update its devices itself.
.
Sent from my GT-P3100 using xda app-developers app
because most developers are from US and they use flagship devices, it's easy to make custom roms for flagship devices because latest android version is available in Stock rom and they can use drivers from stock rom.
micromax uses mediatek SOC's and they don't release source/drivers that's why it's so hard to make custom roms for them.
qualcomm, on the other hand, open sources their SOC. check the development forums for Xperia 2011 series, you'll see stable kitkat 4.4.2 roms which were released just a few weeks after kitkat was released. that's why you don't buy mediatek.
True said there must be coustom ROMS according to the mobile or tab specification not any model because Android have just grow at large scale leaving behind any specific model so we must start thinking about how well is your processor and RAM
I've had my LG-G5 H850 for a few months now.... really hated the LG UI, but managed to get it close to usable with Google Now, etc so I didn't rush into it....
The only thing about the LG ROM that I'm nervous about losing is the LG camera software.... does the dual mode camera and all the manual options (incl RAW photo's, etc) still work in Cyanogenmod / similar?
Which ROMs are people running? I notice that there's still no Cyanogenmod/Mokee build for the G5
Are people just running stock, rooted and debloated?
Custom Roms
Hey
As you already know there are currently no cm roms as of yet but there are 3 custom roms to my knowledge. The current custom roms all use the flagship camera software so your good to go ahead with flashing any one of them.
I doubt Cm will run the flagship flagship camera software and im unaware of any cm camera software utilising the 3 cameras as of yet.
I was a D855(G3) owner for the past 3 years. The Rom development was huge but unfortunately no cm based or aosp based Rom was able to go even close to stock camera quality. LG camera framework was closed coded and LG hasn't shared the code yet. So I guess the same thing will happen to G5. I just hope for more developers to join the G5 community.
I was also on LS990 lg g3 since it's release till coming to g5 and I mainly ran pure AOSP,XenonHD with a few exceptions for some CM-based ROMs... Till I found Fulmics(which was similar to UX 5.0) which was amazing despite missing some features find in AOSP/CM-style ROMs
But I must say I love UX 5.0 with app drawer; I think I'm part of the minority that thinks LG did a great job with their new UI,esp compared to the old UI's...
At this point I wouldn't want to run CM-anything...esp if it means giving up my camera! I mean if u want a circle battery icon that bad just install gravity box... But this UI has grown on me
Any specific custom ROM recommendations?
I was going to follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/recovery-team-win-recovery-project-lg-g5-t3363047
and then CMremix (based on CM-14.1)... I think!! (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/help/rom-cmremix-rom-v1-xx-t3502055)
And thanks for the info about the LG camera software - it's the one piece of LG software that I've been really happy with - definitely would have looked to keep that, so good to hear that it is being ported as-is into the custom ROMs.
Ever since Samsung "did an Apple" and abandoned all their enthusiasts and tweakers (as Apple did in the 1980's), I've been looking for an alternative like LG!!!
Hey everyone,
I don't no if anyone has noticed, compared to most flagship devices the S9+ doesn't have much custom Rom activity going on for it at present.
Are people actually developing roms for this device as even the standard S9 has more choice for roms to install.
I have the international G965F and would love to see some more options for our device from people who have made samsung roms great in the past e.g. bobcat, allience and so on.
At present I'm running soldiers custom Rom but would love to see more available in the coming weeks which isn't all AOSP based.
Unfortunately we are not going to get the Android P software anytime soon, but more options on Oreo would be great to choose from.
+1
I would assume the S9 roms could easily be ported to this device, best bet is to talk to the developers about it.
Hello guys, I want to discuss that. Note 8 is my 3rd phone. I was using Samsung Galaxy s2 and HTC One m7. When I was using these devices there were lots of roms, mods, kernels, discussion topics and devdb threads. For example HTC One m7 had so much roms with a huge variety like miui, aosp, gpe port, stock modified, flyme, xosp etc. Maybe some of us thinks these roms are garbage. Maybe it's true, maybe not but there is not much development for N8 and I'm confused. N8 is a still brillant phone and it's nearly 1 year old. So what are you thinking about it? Why there is not enaugh development for N8? Let's discuss it..
Exynos CPUs for most markets.
Snapdragons comes with a locked bootloader so no development there. Well few touchwiz roms (if you are on a bootloader version that's rootable.)
Exynos samsung doesn't release all the source code (if any) so harder to code for.
Note 8 was expensive and hard to develop for so most went to one plus and not as popular as the galaxy S series.
