Possible Specifications Sony Xperia Z2 Ultra
Emmanuel Jimenez |June 22, 2014 17:05| 0 comments
Sony not only launch a new flagship this year, Sony Xperia Z3, but could also launch another high-end smartphone a Sony Xperia Ultra Z2 . Now, they have released any technical specifications of this smartphone, it would be a large version of the current flagship, the Sony Xperia Z2.
So, count on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 until March, was the best processor that was available on the market. Although now available on Qualcomm Snapdragon 805, we can say that the difference between these two is not noticeable. Moreover, we can say that there is no user to be able to distinguish the level of these two processors. Also, keep in mind that this new Sony Xperia Z2 Ultra would have a 3 GB RAM. Again, it must be said that the difference between the RAM and 2 GB is ultimately not so remarkable, but the fact is that if you have to choose between a processor or better 3 GB RAM is better to opt for the latter option, because in the future it could itself be decisive. The internal memory of 16 GB would be, but could be expanded via a microSD card.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra
As the multimedia components are concerned, the Sony Xperia Z2 Ultra would have a 20.7 megapixel camera, the camera flagship smartphones from Sony. By the way, you could record as 4K. It would have a LED flash and a secondary camera of two megapixels.
However, the Sony Xperia Z2 Ultra screen highlights. It would be a 6.44-inch screen, slightly larger than the 6.3 inch screen of the Xperia Z Ultra. It is not known what the resolution of this screen QHD or whether it would be Full HD, but hopefully QHD because a larger screen, higher resolution is most decisive.
Of course, the Sony Xperia Z2 Ultra is waterproof and will feature Android 4.4.3 KitKat and operating system version. No news on the possible launch of the Sony Xperia Z2 Ultra, although it is possible that the presentation of the smartphone is made at IFA 2014, as in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Lots of coulds and woulds.
Take it with a grain of salt.
And Z Ultra is 6.44 inches right? This says it was 6.3. Seems rather fake to me

Mexicano here.
The text is so large so I'll make it brief:
-Xperia Z ultra will have:
Snapdragon 801. Even though the 805 is already in the market
3GB for RAM
16GB ROM
20.7 MP camera with 4K capable recording
LED flash
6.44 inches
They don't know the real resolution for the phone. But they hope it'll be QHD
^ Remember guys, all the above information are simply RUMOURS.
The very slight cpu upgrade to Snapdragon 801 and the absurd 21mp camera and the pointless 2mp front camera makes it seem more fake.
Imagine the noise in the pictures at 21mp? Our current 8mp camera produces a lot of noise let alone 21.
13 or 16mp at the most is more believable. No way Sony will upgrade the cpu to 801 when 805 is already out...

honestly i bought this devices mainly for gaming + multimedia, the + for this devices : 6.44 large screen (1080p), fastest processor at the moment (S800), Slim design & water resistant, i dun bother abt the camera at all, as i will use my S4 camera with so much function. color of this devices still a let down...dunno y compare with all my Sam S4 AOLED, Mega 6.3 LCD, Galaxy Camera LCD even Huawei Ascend P1 devices XZU UI just look so colorless except viewing photo on sony album, even so it feel over saturated with some color... as i just finish charging devices i need to use more to see if the triluminos really standout.
added Post: now bring to bathroom with me to test how the screen & speaker works.
Test
Will be testing my Xperia Z Ultra the same way as you did. But, it should gives me pretty great time with video watching on 6.4 inch display. LOL!:good:

Camera eq is acceptable. For cam whores, they are better off getting a Honami instead. Overall experience is great with this phone. Many people in my country is complaining of yellowish screen though.

update! screen were sharp, display color were great only with adapt lighting off, except white color wash out unless set to 100% brightness.
speaker sound goes soft after dip in water but sound not so low as XZ & S4 Active.
processor was so powerful, not sure cos of no root but every things was Damn fast. (every android i got 1st day rooted unless root not available)
gaming was super, playing Nova 3 was a shock with it vibration feedback i thought i was holding a X-box controller!
down point : XZU MHL is only 1.0, i just bought 1 MHL 2.0 adapter which can connect HDMI + USB card at the same time but XZU & XTZ not respond to it.
I can only said your eye got problem. You need 100% brightness!!! Oh my god!
How can you see the screen more than a minute with 100% brightness!
They is no washout issue in white as you mention.
I use default around 50% with adapt with lighting conditions and off optimize backlight. Vividness and pure black.

another eye problem sony fan boy saying others who dun side any manufacturer...if u compare TZ & ZU ofcos ZU look great, for ur info i comparing with all the devices (AMOLED + LCD) which i had! & hello who the hell told u i set brightness to 100% more den 1min, i was saying i tested 100% brightness the white color still wash out comparing to Mega 6.3 LCD display. or maybe ur life is so colorless thats y 50% + adapt light on is enough for u.
BTW theres alot of complain of ZU yellowish display ard.

If you are used Update Service to update you Z Ultra C6833,
you can go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Mobile\Update Service\db\XXXXXXXX\blob_fs,
there have 4-5 files named FILE_XXXXXXXXX.
I need that files to flash on my C6802 to test the LTE can it enable. :crying:

Some days ago I was in a electronic shop and I tested the Z1 Compact a little. And I can say, wow! A very sharp display (compared to the sola) and the size is just perfect! The only thing which is just not handable is the ugly colour "splash" you can see when you make photos with flash activated ._.

6" (and larger) device alternatives to replace our Xperia Z Ultra (10+ device specs)
Let us make this the thread where all current and future devices with a screen at least 6 inches or more are discussed, so that when the day comes to choose a replacement for our beloved XZU, we will be ready.
List of Latest Contenders
1. Sony Xperia XA Ultra, 6.0", Mediatek Helio P10
2. Lenovo Phab2 Pro, 6.4", Snapdragon 652
3. LeEco Le Max X900, 6.33", Snapdragon 810
4. Xiaomi Mi Max, 6.44", Snapdragon 650
5. Zenfone 3 Ultra, 6.8", Snapdragon 652
6. Huawei Mate 8, 6", Kirin 959
7. Huawei P8 Max, 6.8", Kirin 935
8. Samsung Galaxy A9, 6", Snapdragon 652
I think phones such as Sony C5 Ultra are outmoded now. I would not consider buying a device with a processor less than Snapdragon 650 and I would very much prefer my new phone to come with Android Marshmallow.

I have had a chance to use Huawei P8Max that belongs to a friend for a few minutes. It looks great and only slightly larger than our Xperia Z Ultra. The screen is very nice, the phone is quite responsive. THough my friend complained a bit about the phone taking a very long time to charge. My only concern with Huawei devices is the lack of root access&almost no ROM development. P8Max has Kirin 935 CPU which sits one level below the current flagship Kirin, 950.

It's Mobile World Congress in a matter of weeks, so I am hoping there will be more phablets announced, in particularly a Z5 or Z6 Ultra.
I just ordered the mate 8. I got the Z5p but its too small, so I guess I'll be sacrificing ip68 for a while.

Once it arrives, could you compare your Mate 8 to XZU? It would be interesting to have an XZU owner's perspective. And according to the Mate 8 XDA forums, it has been rooted succesfully.
Sure

Interesting to find this thread. I been using my G Flex for a while and couldn't find a replacement for it. Most of the phones listed I've been looking at and haven't found a suitable replacement yet. The M5 Plus I would get but can't find 1 place to order it from.
Huawei P8 Max
I have just bought the Huawei P8 Max to replace my beloved Z ultra (the screen broke by itself !!). Initial impressions are positive - screen is bigger and brighter, very well built , superior camera with flash and what really impressed me in addition to the mammoth battery is the speaker volume, this thing is VERY loud, something we all missed with the ultra.
Having said that, you need to put the following into consideration if you are planning to migrate to the P8 Max:
- Huawei implementation of android cannot be compared to what Sony offers. I know it is a personal perspective but not having an application drawer and blocking applications notifications is too much.
- Forget the lovely 320 DPI where the screen accommodated everything you wished for - Huawei stupidly implemented a 480 DPI interface , everything apart from main menus (games, applications ... etc) just looks too big and ugly. (Hopefully it receives the marshmallow updates where the DPI can be customized like the mate 8).
- Slow updates from Huawei and very small community online.
Other than that, the device is very good, it has everything a phablet lover might ask for - but if Sony releases an Ultra successor I would jump into it.
Cheers

Been using the mate 8 for a few days and I am loving it. For me, 6" is the best screen size. I absolutely love using the XZU at home, but walking around trying to use it with one hand is damn near impossible, and it looks ridiculous in dress pants for work. So until sony comes out with a 6" device, I am going with huawei for now. Here is my more thorough mate 8 review;

you could try to use adb to set density to 320 though.
for those of us who need the extra storage, are there any cases that include a mSD slot? like some cases include a battery? at least this way the lazy manufacturers can make their little phones with no expandable storage but we could put them in a phone with an SD card that would mount on our phones?
side note, another one here looking to get rid of his Z ultra (on original since oct 2013) and am bored. haven't flashed it beyond 4.1.2 and as samsungs out of the running, am looking elsewhere

Thank you for the hint, already did that and was struggling to find the sweet spot. After several trials, setting the density to 288 and using a 3rd party launcher was perfect. However, the only minor issue I am facing is that the typing cursor disappeared in some applications like whatsapp and chrome.

Could we please call it a device almost like the xzu? I mean a successor should come from the dudes who made it in the first place, but Sony won't do that.
I know I must sound like a bitter man. And I am. But look at how many successor posts we have.
To many. We are a small fraction of the smartphone market. We are to little people to get Sony thinking again to produce a high specced phone above 6" and I think they never will...
I for my case will switch to the Huawei mediapad x2 if I get the coins next month. Once you go xzu you never can go back in display real estate.

Just saw this article about a new 6.44 display phone from Xiaomi......could be the Z Ultra replacement we've been waiting for?!? I like the 6.44 screen size, which has been perfect for me.
if it has onscreen buttons i would be very interested
but for now - Z Ultra
I think it is the first viable replacement for the Ultra. It provide 128 GB of storage + microSDXC, which is an excellent upgrade from the Ultra 16 GB. The AnTuTu scores for similar devices indicate a decent upgrade as well: around 80,000 which is a step forward but it is possible the 652 version will be even better.
The main question is 240 DPI operation and ROM development. Items such as softbuttons doesn't worry me since it is possible to enable them with the right ROM/tweaks. LTE bands are another question but I would assume a similar setup as the C6833 more or less.
I think the Max is the first device since the Ultra that can be considered a step forward in most aspects.
There is another contender in the works, though: ZTE Nubia X8, which promises up to 4K and a Snapdragon 823. It is worth to wait for it before making any final decision. As the situation is now with Sony probably out of the game (a Z3 TC successor would have been very interesting but nothing in that regard seems to exist and they failed to replace the Z4 Tablet), it seems like the only companies providing devices of the right category are Huawei (MediaPad/Max series), Xiaomi (Max) and ZTE (Nubia).
It seems to be a choice between a Huawei MediaPad X3/M3/P9 Max (i.e. new devices replacing the 2 series), Xiaomi Max or ZTE Nubia X8. Other brands seems to be stuck at 6 inches or smaller.

The only problem with the Mi Max is there are no LTE bands for the US. I was considering one as well. I replaced my ZU with a Mediapad X2 last year and it's still a great phone even without LTE here.
Look for vernee apollo. just for 299usd and you will get 10core cpu and 6gb ram and 128gb storage and 20mp camera.

I totally second this! There's something about the 6.4 inch screen that is perfect for everyday use and for watching videos. I can't imagine myself downsizing to a 6 inch phone.....my eyes literally get strained from watching videos on a 6 inch screen
The new Zen phone 3 ultra looks interesting too.
Tech tablets review is very positive
